From the packaging to the first bite, this was a welcome sweet stop for us. This is a Red Bean snack paradise that was fresh tasting even though they were packaged. The green leaf shaped rice patty was velvet soft. Some of their sweets look like snow globes with Gold Fish or glass souvenirs, enticing. You can pick up a nice gift here if you are stuck on ideas. Very opulent cravings

Excellent service, so clean and pretty in the store. The sales ladies were so calm, sweet and helpful. They were very polite and proper and also very attentive. They have so many choices its hard not to get carried away.We bought mini mooncakes that ended up being so delicious we wanted more.We also bought some individually wrapped pancake, and pastries. Sweet but very yummy. Very excited to return and stock up on more.

If you like Japanese dessert, try this place! I remember my dad bringing little Japanese manju whenever he had a trip to Japan. I love how outside is so smooth and inside was filled with sweet bean fillings. I was able to go back to that memories from this store. Price is a bit $$$$ but, hey, they are GOOD. Staffs are super friendly and their packaging is just so cute :D

The shop is smaller than I expected but with plenty of selections. The service is good to me and I feel comfortable there since the assistant wont abruptly ask what I can do for you but leave your space for you to look around. It is a little pricy for the gift set. The Royce chocolate is just beside it and it is worth looking around there too.

Desserts were pretty well made, but is quite pricey. They have different varieties Japanese desserts ranging from: crackers, dried fruit, mochi, rice cake, and red bean desserts. I got the matcha senbei, which was $3.70 for one and it was very delicious, but its something I would buy often.

My boyfriend and I make a special trip here every time we go to the city. Neither of us has never gotten anything we didnt love, and we splurge and get a big bag every time. Its not the most... welcoming place, the staff is lovely, but its so quiet and pristine that its sort of hard to get used to, but its worth it. Delicious.

High quality Japanese sweets made mainly with rice flower and bean paste, walnuts, matcha powder, and other fresh ingredients. They have a very short shelf life due to their freshness and mostly absence of preservatives. They are imported directly from Japan. If you like this kind of non-too-sweet-sweets, this is a pretty amazing experience. Expensive, but you pay for quality.

This is one of the best places to get authentic and fine Japanese sweets or okashi. Their selection is fantastic. It includes mochi, jellies, rice crackers, etc. Be prepared to pay for high quality handcrafted sweets. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Felt very discriminated upon. They were not paying us attention. Then once someone acknowledged us they were making it very difficult for us to order. We wanted to order 1 piece of a few items since it was our first time. They kept telling us everything was frozen. But I studied human psychology and they demonstrated discomfort and wanted my spouse and I out. I believe because we had urban wear. He’s an urban Wear model and we are of Hispanic culture. We left confused. As we walked we had this feeling of humiliation, downgraded, and sadden. We couldn’t believe the treatment. This took place Sunday 11/8 around 6pm.

Excellent desserts. I would highly recommend the ones which expire in 1-2 days (the in-store pick up ones). The sakura mochi is my favourite! The others which are packed (and have a shelf life of 1-2 months) simply have too many ingredients like various gums and preservatives. Even if these ingredients are extracts of natural substances, the end result feels too not-natural.

Lovely but extremely pricey Japanese snack shop. They try their best to be authentic so a lot of the offerings wont be loaded with sugar or sweetness. They still carry plenty of Western style of chocolate for your sugar rush. Worth a visit if you want to try something new or different.

Minamoto is not for everyone because Japanese desserts and snacks, with their emphasis on rice-based cakes and crackers, sweet bean paste and preserved fruits and nuts, are not for everyone. Minamotos goodies are also very expensive. But if you crave for high-quality Japanese desserts and snacks, Minamoto is my go-to place in Manhattan. Many of their items are seasonal. For example, I just bought their seasonal peach jelly with jellied peach puree on the outside and preserved peach slices inside. Each cost me $20! But the price of admission was well worth it because this is a rare opportunity to taste a Japanese peach in the US. If you havent yet tasted a Japanese peach, you should do so if you visit Japan. It tastes completely different from the peach you can get in the US. This peach jelly highlights the taste of Japanese peach even more because of the puree and the preserved peach slices have concentrated peach flavors. And yet, this treat is not too sweet - it is just slightly sweeter than a ripe Japanese peach.I cannot recommend this place more highly.

Whenever we go to New York, we visit this place at least once. Sometimes up to four times over a week span. Although service is not a strong point, the service is now noticeably worse than in the past. The product remains pretty good (4/5). It is not at the same level as the great sweets in Japan but we do enjoy the varied offerings of this store.

Minamoto is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Something about the tea ritual and the confections that go with it are mesmerizing. Great place for traditional Japanese sweets. I love the Sakura mochi which is a cherry scented soft rice cake filled with sweet red bean paste and wrapped in a briny cherry leaf.
