I finally made it to the infamous Mood Fabrics! After watching the first episode of Project Runway I’ve wanted to visit & never got a chance until the other day. It was a Saturday to be exact, I made the mistake(like a couple other folks before me)of walking into Mood Home store front, thankfully the sweet store associate directed me next door. They should consider putting the sign that instructs to go next door for fashion Mood at the top of the door instead of the bottom of the door. After riding up the elevator & the doors opening I was in immediate awe, the fashion art on the walls & doors were a delight! Unfortunately I didn’t have all the time I wanted(was picking up a piece of fabric for my Mom)and I liked that each aisle had the specific type of fabric on hanging signs. Not sure if the day I went was the reason for the amount of people in the store, but I quickly learned that getting assistance could be a slight hassle. But only if you’re impatient or in a rush, besides that I received help throughout my whole visit. Every single store associate was courteous, strong, helpful and extremely nice. The aisles are small & tight, so I wouldn’t recommend coming in there with a ton of bags or luggage, especially because they have stairs to get to the other floors. I also like that you can ask for swatches of any fabric, not sure how normal that is but I can’t wait to go back!
What a fabulous place! So many options I definitely recommend a visit. The staff is so helpful. They will happily direct you to what you are looking for. My friend Jill was looking for a linen and found a stunning kelly green fabric. Can’t wait to see it come to life!
I honestly prefer shopping online at mood Fabrics compared to in-store its kind of cluttered and even with social distancing it is a lot of people in one place due to the width of the aisles. In addition, as someone with Armstrongs its very hard for me to move the bolts of fabric so having them all stacked on top of each other without being able to clearly see the labels unless youre able to pull out a bolt makes it very difficult to go through and check content and pricing of the different fabrics especially if youre in lace. Also stretch lace isnt in stretch fabric or in a segmented part of lace, its just in lace and you have to search through those bolts to find it.However, the staff is really helpful they will pull up a item that you described online to see if its in the store. If its not in store you have to order the swatch or the fabric online unfortunately. I like going to see the way different fabrics fall and sometimes will pick up something in store I dont see online. Its also nice to see the different projects draped on the dress forms. In addition, they used to offer classes before COVID so if you want to learn sewing or specific projects they have classes on and they still offer them it can be kind of a one stop shop for you with projects.
Dishonest and poor customer serviceI ordered three different fabrics (6 yards, 10 yards and 10 yards) online 11/26/2020. I paid total of $319.74. Due to pandemic I was unable to do anything with these fabrics until now…just to find Mood Fabrics from New Jersey own me 4 yards of fabric. They sent me two cuts of 6yards and one cut of 10 yards.I emailed Mood Fabrics yesterday. They replied with “strict policy, 30 days return policy, since it has been a year already since you placed the order and requested picture of the fabric and ruler you used to measure.”• I reach out to Mood Fabrics to inform them that’s they shorted me 4 yards of fabric I already paid for.• I was not requesting for a return.• Their solution to the issue is giving 15% coupon toward my next purchase.Really??? If Mood Fabrics strict policy applied to quality, honesty services and deliver correct quantity customer ordered and paid for…I would not have written this.
There are plenty of options for fabrics and trims in this store. Some of the staff seem to be disgruntled employees while other staff are happy to help you. Think of this place as a Super Walmart or Target for Fabrics.
Project Runway made it famous, but its always been a great hidden treasure before then for designers and people just needing a special look fabric. Thankfully, they have a great online site with 2020, so you wont be disappointed. Its actually somewhat easier shopping it online (aside from not being able to feel the fabric) as the store has A LOT of stuff in it.
First, I need to clarify that my review is of the online branch of Mood Fabrics, not the retail store. I generally have a good experience in the store.Because travel has been suspended recently and I have been unable to get to the store, I tried ordering fabric from Mood online. It was not a great experience.First, the website is very slow and the filtering options for the search engine could be more useful. But eventually I found that fabrics that I needed and placed an order.A few days later I received an email from Mood stating that, for one of the fabrics, the yardage that I ordered was only available in multiple pieces. It instructed me to reply within two hours or my order would be shipped out in these pieces. In my opinion, that is an extremely inappropriate scenario. In order to know whether or not the cut yardages would work I needed to know what the run sizes were and then I needed to calculate whether I could fit all of my pattern pieces into those runs. That was simply not a matter of two hours. And that is assuming that I received the email immediately. It seemed as if Mood just wanted to unload some remnants and hoped to get them posted before I could object. I cancelled that order. So I placed a new order with replacement fabric. Once I received my receipt I realized that the website had overcharged me - the subtotal of all of the items as calculated by the website was about $20 more that the actual total of all of the items. I immediately (well, I say immediately but it actually took about 20 minutes and 4 phone calls before someone answered) called Mood to inquire about this. The person with whom I spoke acknowledged the problem but could not explain it. Instead of looking for a solution and refunding the overcharge, she tried to convince me to take it as a future credit. This seemed completely unethical to me and and so I refused and demanded a refund. The agent agreed to find someone who could issue this. Two weeks later I still did not have the refund so I again contacted Mood and told them that they need to resolve this or that I would dispute the charge with my credit card. The agent again agreed but it still took another week for the refund to be issued. It really didnt seem as if Mood cared that I was overcharged and that they were really just hoping that I would lose interest or forget about the situation so that they could keep the money.Overall, I cannot say that I am in any way happy with Mood Fabrics online. To me they seemed inefficient, unprofessional and unethical. I will not do any business with them again and cannot recommend them to anyone else.
Best selection of fabric and upholstery. If you go ask for Diane she gave us the best customer service! She went out of her way to help us get a certain upholstery that was currently out of stock. She contacted the manufacture about the return date of the upholstery we wanted and got back to us with answers not just a basic its out of stock right now reply. If you go and need help I really recommend working with Diane! This store has nice selection of animal print upholstery which is hard to find!
Mood home,I went in to look for fabric for making a new cover for a small accent chair. I found a $54/yard fabric and showed a photo of the chair to the staff. She told me I need to buy AT LEAST 10 yards. I questioned the quantity, she looked at me as if I had no idea of what I am doing. There is no way I would spend $540 to buy some fabric for a chair cover when I can buy a new chair ( maybe 2) with the amount of money. I then went to another store, they suggested 5 yards maximum ( I bought it, used 4.5 yards to make the cover).I wont go to Mood home again, but I do love to go upstairs to buy one of a kind fabrics with reasonable price at Mood fabric. The leather area is my favorite. The staffs are friendly and helpfulI also noticed that new arrivals come in store first with higher price and later being listed online with lower price for the same fabric. ie, $16 in store and $13.99 online for the same fabric.
Its amazing how much this store has upgraded since Project Runway. Seeing America and Richard commanding the fine fabric section was nostalgic. They always helped me back in the days when I made dresses/gowns to attend hubbys work events.Every aisle was labeled and the place is bustling. Staff are knowledgeable and will lean on colleagues for questions they dont have answers for. I went in on a Saturday where they still managed to provide attentive service. This trip I was eyeballing ostridge feathers trim and by the yard.
My favorite place! Always can find here top quality and unique fabrics. Getting tons of compliments. Want to come back over and over again:))
Going to Mood Fabrics is like going to the Library of Congress of Textiles”. I couldn’t agree more with TIM GUNN. This is my favorite fabric store in the garment district and always my first stop anytime i visit NYC. This world most famous fabric store is a fabric haven with all types of designer fabrics, varieties of trimmings and tailoring supplies. I highly recommend to all existing and aspiring fashion designers, seamstresses, tourists, locals and all fashion lovers. I get so INSPIRED each and every time i visit the store. And yes, I’ve had the opportunity to see Swatch the dog in the store a couple of times. I just LOVE Mood Fabrics!!!
Very helpful as soon as I walked into the store I was immediately greeted and asked if I needed help. Gentleman associate helped me find what I needed and the same type of fabrics. Bagged everything. I was in and out in like 5 minutes. Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely wonderful staff helped me find the right material for making a backdrop. Really creative environment.
Came here on a weekday - the place was not crowded at all. A wide range of various fabrics available. I was mainly interested in the selection of the linen fabrics and found it quite broad. The personnel was available to cut out the necessary swatches and answered all my questions. Overall - nice experience.
As a designer i am no stranger to deadlines. I had one recently and needed my Mood online order NOW. I left a message and Kristina Bedkas and the Mood team pulled out all the stops to get my order to me the next day. I was thrilled and had my design ready on time. Thank you to all of you.
Stopped there when I’m NY last year and had to visit as live Project Runway and walked past it every day. Was cool to see Swatch and the place. Actually was interested in some fabric, but had a hard time getting help as the staff was too busy dissing about some school group that had been in there. Guess I looked like the tourist I was.
If you like project runway, you need to visit here. Although, if you intend to buy a lot of fabric, there are cheaper options in the garment district. You can ask for a swatch of most fabrics. There are definitely times of the day that are better to visit, on my last visit I came an hour before closing and it wasn’t too busy.
Wonderful inspiring range of fabric and accessories. Friendly courteous and knowledgeable staff. I collected many swatches of fabric to bring home. I never ever visit NYC without calling into Mood. Highly recommend but be prepared to lose time as your imagination goes into full throttle!!
Id give it a 4.5. Tons of great fabric. Excellent selection. Shaved off a half star b/c its not the easiest place to get assistance. I actually wandered around aimlessly between floors and watched another more seasoned customer seek someone out for help. Tough learning the lay of the land as a newbie. Cashier and bag check person were the friendliest at the store.
Been going to Mood for over 10yrs now, things definitely changed over the years...** More staff need to be upstairs.** Errick needs to be downstairs with other staffs. So much to say but I’ll keep it short.-1st floor staffs 10/10 (easy, fast, friendly).-Upstairs staffs 0/10 (distracted, slow, make you wait around)-Cashiers 9/10 (distracted, loud chatting w customers behind you or next to you). Pls let the customers know if they have points or not. Not cool to find out you have points you can use AFTER checking out.Overall, a fabric store to visit? Yes, ofc. Do I wish the staffs were as friendly AND attentive as years ago? Yes, 100%
Their online prices are not the same as the in-store prices and they do not honor the online price in store. Buy online and youll pay 1/3rd of the price. That being said, their staff that helps with selecting and cutting fabric is fantastic and what saved this review. I hope they pay their staff super well because they are whats saving this brand from just being a disjointed mess.
Breathtaking to be among the stacks of fabrics. Only tricky part was finding the tiny elevator up.
We came in at the last few minutes before closing and was thankful they let us in. As a fan of PR, I just wanted to experience the store for a couple minutes and buy my t-shirt. They are very used to tourists and offered to take our picture. I loved that friendliness. They have a lot of cute t-shirts to choose from, and a fun store to visit!
I come to the Mood Store all the time. The stuff who helps me to choose a fabric are so nice and helpful. Whenever I’m at the register I always get the worth service. It’s not the first time I get an attitude for nothing. Today, the lady at the register was very rude and had so much attitude. It makes me not wanna come back. I hope Mood can fix that soon!
It’s not as big as crazy as it looks on tv. They have helpful staff and employ disabled people. They also have a lazy bull dog who roams the store. If you can’t find something you need you can ask anyone and they will direct you on where to go. They stock a variety of different fabrics. I just wish they had a larger faux fur and leather section. They also teach sewing classes in the basement!
Even though I could have been labeled a tourist, no one here made me feel that way. Everyone was helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable. The selection is as fast as I expected and I was thrilled to find a fabric that would have been very difficult if not impossible to locate in AZ (there isnt a huge demand for heavy wool blends in this climate). I cant deny that the highlights were finding a gorgeous fabic, being in a Project Runway iconic location, and petting a very sweet puppy. It is totally a fabric version of Disneyland (happiest place on Earth)!
Overpriced and not enough staff on the floor. Took me 15 linut s to get someone to help me today.
Mood is lovely. It has an eclectic selection of fabrics and its own in-house line of prints that tantalize every time I visit the site. Ive previously placed orders without issue- however, this most recent experience has me second-guessing continuing to use Mood as a source.Ive spent the last month and a half trying to chase down an answer from customer service, as my order would not produce shipping quotes. It would have been nice to know a month and a half ago that a product in my cart was unable to cross the border. It also would have been nice if the customer service rep who promised me a list of these no-go products had followed up with the thing they promised three days ago. This situation has resulted in a significant delay on my own freelancing business that didnt need to happen had the customer service team replied to my inquiries over a month ago.I still have to place an order with them, and I will follow through on that. I wont get a discount on the purchase like the rep promised me, because Im tired of having to do the leg work on making this situation right. Moving forward, I will do my best to avoid Mood as a materials source. I cannot work with a company that has such an ineffective customer service branch. My business will not be missed, but other reviews indicate that this issue isnt isolated, and if Mood isnt yet feeling the pinch of this negligence, they will in due time. Please do better. This part of the business is so easy to get right and yall are really, really dropping the ball.
I just went to mood to purchase about 90yds of fabric. A young man Julian on the bottom floor helped me with my purchase. He was very friendly and so helpful. Never flustered by the heavy flow of ppl around and always happy to help. Thanks for your help Julian!
Mood is a great source for a wide variety of fabrics - unless you need assistance from customer service in which case youre probably out of luck.
Overwhelmingly amazing
Love this store. Been going to it for several years. Their quality of fabrics never disappoints me and they have so much to choose from! Definitely the best store in the entire Fashion District.
I love Mood! Ive been coming here since my freshman year of college which was over 17 years ago and I always enjoy it. Best to go early morning as it will get packed quite quickly. There is a large selection of different fabrics and the staff is always friendly. Dont forget to sign up for their mood card as you will get points for every purchase. Also, being open on Saturdays is such a nice bonus!
Lovely place to get your fabrics. They have amazing stuff
Been going to this store for years. Always find what I need and the staff is helpful
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I purchased organza fabric based on website photos which were completely different than the actual color. I called customer service (Mike) and was asked to send an email with photos of the color. I did as requested immediately but heard NOTHING. I followed up a few days later - NOTHING. Finally, a week later I called, spoke with Eric who put me on hold for 10 minutes to tell me that Mike will be forwarding the email to a department who can assist. VERY disappointed with my online experience and subsequent customer service.
It was so cool going up the elevator and walking into Mood. I had to stop by because of my diehard Project Runway fandom, did not have a lot of time to spend, but the assortment of fabrics was amazing and it got my creative juices flowing.
If you are in the mood to be treated poorly, to be given dirty looks and be offered no help, then this place is for you! This is the only fabric store in the city that I’ve been to where I felt completely unwelcome. Also none of the staff were wearing masks...Woo hoo y’all were on tv a couple times, some of us have lives and don’t watch Tv all day and literally give zero fux. Incompetence at its finest.
Mood fabrics is a store that offers high end fabrics and that they do!! There are many great products available. There is three stories and every square foot is stuffed with the finest fabrics. They also have buttons, a personal favorite. Their button selection is big, not huge, but big enough. There are some really unique ones. All in all if youre in Manhattan and like crafts this is a must go to.
I went to Mood to find fabric to put sleeves on a sleeveless dress- no simple task! I worked with Jorge Koubbe and he was EXCELLENT. He helped me find the perfect fabric in the perfect shade. He even helped me design the exact style of the sleeve. He really went above and beyond! I loved working with Jorge and I love coming to Mood!
Gorgeous space, amazing/inspiring blog/website, and even better customer service, responding to emails at all hours; very helpful and friendly. Ive bought some of my favorite yarn ever in the shop and make sure to visit whenever Im even remotely nearby. Slightly pricey, but with such a thorough website its not like there are really any surprises.
I live in Vancouver, Canada, and only found out about Mood recently (within the last month). Ive received two orders already, and loved the fabrics and experience so much I placed more orders during this current sale. Ive always been wary about importing fabrics into Canada because of duties and taxes. Mood collects any duties and taxes upfront, and in my experience at least, that was all I needed to pay, and I was not asked to pay any additional amounts upon receipt of the packages. I much prefer that over having to pay an additional $10 Cdn administrative fee in those instances where taxes were not collected by the seller, and I was required to pay them after the items have cleared Canadian customs. The fabrics were well packaged, with no damage at all despite the journey across the country. Yes, shipping was expensive (around $30USD starting), but I am not able to find the same variety of fabrics anywhere else, and unfortunately, dont think I will be able to visit NY any time soon. I had a small problem recently where I was charged for free swatches due to a glitch in the system, but it was quickly resolved within a few days.
I used their website. Wrongly charged me and will not properly refund my money. I have been trying since end of May to get a simple $20 refund owed to me
Rude customer service!!! When I was checking out my stuff at the register I took some of the hand sanitizer and one of the employee looked down on me and said “you know you can get it at the dollar store” with and stink attitude!
This place was super cool! Ive been interested in starting my clothing brand, and just seeing all of the different types of fabrics was already getting me pumped. I can definitely understand people getting overwhelmed, but I honestly though everything was well organized by type of fabric.
Excellent customer service, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and they have EVERYTHING.Sometimes gets crazy crowded because of the tourists, but they do their best to keep the lines moving and have space in the aisles to move. I come here over the larger chain hardware stores.
The customer service is terrible. I received an order of fabric that was woven out of alignment. I had to call several times a week for over a month for customer service to verify that there was a problem with the fabric. Two weeks and several calls later there is still no word on when they will be sending a replacement. Several customer service reps have said they would call me back and never have. Very frustrating experience.
Took my friends daughter to Mood because she loves watching Project Runway. Had the best time. Wish Swatch (the dog) was there but they say he doesnt work on weekends. That just means another visit for us.
Very large selection.some staff helpful others a little rude. Guy behind counter nasty attitude. Other than human interactions semi expensive fabric heaven
My first time ordering and then dealing with customer service was a terrible experience. I ordered White fabric and white lace per the mood fabric website. I made sure to check the descriptions and order before finalizing it. When the fabric arrived it was not as the description said it was. The lace was a cream and definitely not white, but I checked the website again before calling and it said it was white fabric and had it pictured in white. The White fabric was not as it was advertised either. When I reached out to see about returning the fabric it took two weeks to get the customer service person to finally tell me they would allow me a one time credit and to send the fabric back on my dime. I guess what upsets me the most is that it took me emailing several times to get the customer service rep to provide any answers. The first couple of emails he just keep saying he was working on it, which I thought that meant a return with a shipping label. Then he told me that I should of ordered swatches of the fabrics first, which means no matter what false descriptions they put up, you will be responsible for the purchase with no refund. Not the kind of business I will be buying from again. Beware and everything is on you so make sure you order swatches as their poor description are not their responsibility. Then dealing with customer service could cause you to miss a very important deadline, as I have.
Very nice people. Lots of selection. But no thread count info.
I bought fabric here almost a year ago now, worth 1000usd online & it wasn’t shipped nor was I refunded, it’s really frustrating as we keep mailing them & they always say we’ll refund but they never do, it’s really angering, I would never shop online from here ever again, awful experience & please do something I’m still to get my money back!!!!
The mood store associates are the best! They are very well educated about textiles, and they suggested exactly what I am looking for from endless stock of fabrics. Truly stunned and amazed. :) Fine online division associates as well. Weather you are buying through the store or through their online division, you can rest assured you will get top customer service and experts opinion. I love Mood. Every time I go there, I stay there for hours and no one bothers me. I play and buy fabrics that I love. Truly nice people.
Awful. Arbitrarily decided to not allow me to use my Mood rewards card when I had $$$ I could have used towards my purchase. Don’t understand why they give out this card if we are not allowed to exercise the rewards when we want to.
THE BEST!
Very rude staff, they are always chatting amongst themselves and are extremely unhelpful. There are much better fabric stores with better customer service and fabrics.
I am a first time buyer and will never buy here again. I ordered a pattern paper roll and found a bigger size roll on WAWAK for half the price. I cancelled the order as soon as i placed it and it was still shipped to me and was a hassle to return (they do not send a return label with their shipment, they ship through fedex but returns are gone through ups, it took 3 days for customer service to send me a label, customer service rep hangs up on you, etc). Its been over a month and i have not received my refund. Ive been calling and emailing them for the past month. Im currently on hold with them for over an hour. PLEASE DO NOT SHOP HERE.
I take a few classes here. Sewing and Draping. The also offer fashion illustration and whatnot. I really love both the classes I take. The teachers have character and the tasks give you a feeling of empowerment.
Excellent customer service. The staff was really patient and helpful. Thanks !!
