I had great experiences with Adventure Scuba - I got my open water certification (classroom and contained dives) thru the team there. Super nice and knowledgeable. Made the experience great. I also bought my initial gear on-site which I took to the BVI for some amazing diving and got an amazing conch shell from the bottom (see my pictures below).

From buying the right gear to navigating dive tables and mask clearing, the team at Adventure Scuba knew what they were talking about and shared that knowledge easily. Their friendly and informal office is a perfect welcome to the dive community - a refreshing vibe after coming off the harried streets of the city. In terms of the pool segment, it was pure fun. Without a single stressful moment, I felt considerably more confident in my dive skills by the end of the class. Would highly recommend!

Excellent shop. Tom was superb.Adventure Scuba is a great place for learning. I cant imagine how they could have been more helpful. They did not make a hard sell but we ended up buying a few things because Toms explanations were so intuitive sounding to us as beginners.Tom is a secret weapon for them. He is amazingly knowledgeable with a very calm demeanor and approach. He repeats things without being repetitive and he stresses the important things to remember for actual dives. And he was so so patient with us. Tom was superb.The pool is across the street so super convenient but dress warmly if you go in the winter, as we did.We did this class as prep for a vacation but, surprisingly, it was a really enjoyable day on its own!5 stars for Adventure Scuba and 5+ for Tom.

Terrific experience! Seth couldn’t have been more helpful explaining what my husband and I would need to get certified for diving at our upcoming honeymoon. We did the one-day Saturday certification class with Tom, who was the best instructor I have encountered for any subject in at least a decade! Tom was patient, and explained everything in a logical way in which one skill built on the last. By the end of the first half of the day, I felt comfortable putting together all my gear and actually scuba diving along the pool floor. By the end of the day I felt relaxed and confident ready for our trip! He was delightful and explained each skill ahead of time so we knew exactly what to expect. Tom was also super helpful getting us outfitted and didn’t push us on any higher end equipment that wasn’t necessary. (Do get at least the cheaper wetsuit—I get cold and it helped a lot!) adventure scuba knows exactly what they are doing and paced the day perfectly for us! One note: The elearning component (which you complete prior to class) was fine, very repetitive but that is good so you know the main points before you get in the water—but when they say leave 10-12 hours for this, do leave at least 7–even cramming it took us this long to complete! My 14-year old son took the certification course with Adventure Scuba and the experience could not have been better. Seth and Tom were extremely helpful on the phone, the PADI online course was accessed easily, and the pool course (a full day last Saturday) with Tom was just great. Tom is a great teacher and an ambassador for SCUBA. My son was comfortable and confident the whole time, and feels totally prepared for the open water dives we will take in Mexico next week. If youre considering SCUBA certification (my older son and I did it here about 7 years ago as well), and you live on Manhattan, make it easy on yourself and just go here.

I did my pool dives through Adventure Scuba and had a good experience. Before I even arrived, they answered my emails and were communicative Everyone I spoke to in the shop was friendly, helpful and made me feel welcome/comfortable as a novice. I had Marianne as my trainer who was great! She was thorough, patient and encouraged me to ask questions. I recommend doing your training here if you need to - while its not the cheapest, if you live in the city any alternative is going to be more inconvenient when you account for transit nonsense or time off work.

If you want to learn to become a Scuba Diver this is The place in NYC to learn to dive. My brother and I took the discovery course and loved the activity so we decided to continue with the courses to get our certificates. Through the whole process Seth was a great instructor, friendly, and provided the best customer service . They carry all sort of gear, and best of all they are knowledgeable about everything and would recommend the best gear that suits you. Here they will teach you the concepts so you understand and could apply them to real situations and wont just skim through them so you skip to certificate.I highly recommend this store

I drove in from out of state based on the recommendation of a friend, and I had a terrific scuba certification experience! Seth at the shop communicated really well the week leading up to pool testing, and he made sure my online testing was going well. John was the divemaster for the pool and quarry dives, and he was great at making all of us feel comfortable and knowledgeable. I highly recommend!

Just completed my open water certification and was immensely satisfied with the quality of service from adventure scuba. It is refreshing to see people like Seth,Mary Ann and John Cassidy who take such careful attention to make sure you enjoy an entirely new experience. If you are thinking about becoming scuba certified, this is the place to do it.

Family owned business run by a friendly staff.I took a refresher course here with them and the shop is located directly across the street from an amazing pool complex.The instructor was knowledgeable. The class went at my pace.I am looking for ward to both shopping here and doing summer trips to Dutch Springs.I would definitely recommend this place if you are in NYC and looking for instruction or dive equipment.

Adventure Scuba is a great place to train. Tom is a great teacher and very inspiring. I look forward to having my daughter become a certified diver as well in the near future.

They have access to Asphalt Greens amazing facilities (right across the street). We took our refresher class before our trip and we got great instructor and amazing facilities to practice.

What a great experience!On a very rainy Saturday, Tom brought sunshine on our day and made us travel through his diving experiences and stories. We are much looking forward to our trip in Mozambique for our honey moon and feel very lucky to have had such an experienced instructor. I completed the pool training for the scuba diving certification with Adventure Scuba. Tom was our instructor for a full day course. The class consisted of myself and one other person which allowed for a very relaxed, comfortable and attentive learning experience. Tom was very passionate about learning to dive and entertained us through out the day with funny encounters of past dives. I felt reassured during one of the more challenging (for me) skill tests involving mask removal and breathing without a mask on! Tom made sure that i got through it and awarded me the gold nose pin! All in all it was a good experience. They also provide gear for purchase and advise you on different brands and models; as well as offer open water courses at a nearby facility.

My wife and I took the two-weekday confined water part of the open water certification with Tom as our instructor. Hes a lovely human being—patient, warm, and with a great sense of humor. Underneath that welcoming exterior, hes also a deeply experienced and knowledgeable diver. The weekday class didnt feel rushed at all, and we both left feeling thoroughly prepared for the open-water portion, which well complete this summer on vacation. Seth (at the store, we didnt dive with him) is great, too—very friendly and helpful. All in all, Adventure Scuba is a friendly, neighborhood dive shop and feels like the right launch pad for years of adventures.

What. An. Experience!First off, I have to admit - I never do reviews but the second the class was over on Saturday I knew that had to change.My instructor was Tom and he MADE the class. He’s not only professional and knowledgeable but totally chill and encouraging and just all around a really good person.The shop is right across the street from the pool and the facilities are great! I performed my pool classes for OWD certification with Adventure Scuba and had a great time. Instruction was top notch and class was smooth. If I hadnt had my Caribbean open water dives already scheduled I would have gone with Adventure for that as well!

Pool training was a great starting point for my diving experience. Instructor (Tom) was extremely helpful and patient. Very small classes allow for attention to each individuals needs to develop the necessary skills. Pool facilities are excellent.Definitely would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn.

I did the Satuday 1 day class, and would highly recommend it. The instructor was very thorough and adapted to suit the needs of the students. Lots of fun, and a very efficient way to get the knowledge you need to begin diving.

Our two sons and I recently completed the open water PADI course with Tom at Adventure Scuba and it was great! Our boys are only 12 and 10 years old, and Tom was patient and encouraging and knowledgable. He taught us everything we needed to know to prepare us for our open water dives (which we just completed last week while away), and now we are certified. They were also very helpful, and not at all pushy, in helping us select our gear (fins, mask snorkels and wetsuits). I highly recommend them.

I did the private one day confined water class with MaryAnne and overcame my mask clearing fears by the end of the day lol. Im looking forward to my first open water dive in Thailand. Seth was extremely helpful with all my gear!

Good prices on wetsuits! (Cheaper than Amazon Prime)They also carry Hero GoPro cameras. And full scuba outfits.Their dive courses are all conducted in Dutch Springs, a cold lake in PA. Beyond that, they have dive club recommendations for ocean dives. Staff is informative and helpful. Asphalt Green & a nice park are right nearby and worth checking out while youre at Adventure Scuba.

I took The Weekend class, it was rushed and I did not feel the instructor was good. She was very rushed that day and we started almost an hour late because some attendants were not on time . I drove from PA to NY to take this class and I was on time . I had to take additional diving courses to be safe in the open water, I am sorry to say this but I was not impressed . Let alone the pool was so cold even with a thick diving suit .

I completed my open water course with Adventure Scuba in July 2017. My instructor and the staff at the shop were very helpful in identifying my needs. The pool dives were fun and laid back and information was explained and demonstrated well. For my open water dives, I was nervous. So nervous that my first descent was almost disastrous. My instructor helped me to the surface, looked at me and said ok, you got that out of your system, ready to go back down? I was freaked but his calm demeanor and confidence gave me the confidence to continue. Ive just completed my 15th dive in Asia. Thanks, Adventure Scuba!

I have researched multiple places local and far to have my family undertake this adventure of PADI cert. The owner Seth the owner has been more than informative and gracious. I uave called a out 30 times and he has answered all my questions and accomodated multiple asks. The pool portion and instruction were great and I learned all the required sections. I would recommend Adventure ScubaBring your wallet. You get what you pay for!

Beware: if you have very little diving experience, I do not recommend the Weekend Executive Class for Open Water certification as it is a very fast paced/intense class.

I had a wonderful experience with the team at Adventure Scuba when doing my pool dives. I didnt do the online test correctly when I submitted it, so they made sure to give me some time to complete that at the shop.

Adventure Scuba was amazing! The PADI program overall is really well designed, and the combination of textbook + videos really ensures that the knowledge sticks.I took the class on a saturday with my boyfriend and we were matched with two lovely instructors. They were knowledgable about the course material and had personal stories/advice on virtually every topic. We will finish our certification this week by doing our open water dives in Cancun, and I for one feel completely ready.I should note that there is NO PRESSURE TO BUY ANYTHING, but we bought all of our gear before we got into the pool (great quality and great discount) and when I had some issues with sizing I was able to make my exchange during our lunch break and get back into the pool perfectly equipped. I cant stress enough how important fit is, so this really made a huge difference in my experience.I would recommend Adventure Scuba to anyone interested in getting highly personalized and personable scuba instruction.
