Went here around 7pm on a Monday and there was no line. This place is super small - think they allow one person in at a time. I ordered a compost cookie and a slice of the milk bar pie. The pie was awesome. It was really sweet but I have a sweet tooth so no complaints from me. Nice and gooey piece of pie just like I like it. The compost cookie was pretty good as well. Not gonna be the best cookie you have but it was pretty good and worth the try. All in all good experience.
I if your craving something sweet this will surely give that sweet tooth what it needs. It’s so good. The store is small and they are practicing guidelines for Covid like one person upon entry at a time. You can scan the QR code for the menu. The cakes are moist and sweet and the shakes are scrumptious. The cookie I chose was perfection. I’ll surely go back!!
Delivery review:I was surprised with a gift sampler set from Milk Bar. The gift arrived protected and chilled in a box. Couldn’t wait for the treats to warm up as per the instructions and immediately dived into the birthday truffles. Trying hard to resist eating more so I can properly enjoy the chewy deliciousness.
Ordered a slice of birthday cake but it was way TOO sweet. (I don’t know it might be an American standard sweetness. )According my experiences, cakes and desserts sold in local American stores are very very sweet in my opinion. No offense but my Asian friends and I don’t understand why Americans prefer the desserts to be that much sweet? In my knowledge, East Asians like Chinese, Korean and Japanese appreciate and prefer desserts that are not very sweet, but mild to moderate sweetness so that we don’t get overwhelmed and fed up with too much sugar and sweetness, and it’s also healthier for our bodies. The funny thing is that, when we think a dessert is good, we don’t just say “it’s good/ delicious”, we say “it’s not too sweet.” So if you don’t like very sweet cakes and desserts, then this is probably not the right place for you. The price is also a bit high though ($9 per slice).
Aesthetically pleasing and over-hyped.Visited the shop with some family visiting and tried the famous pie, some cookies, and the cereal milk ice cream. The cereal milk ice cream was icy and sugary, had no creaminess or depth. The topping just tasted like salt. It was so bad that between the three of us, no one could have more than a bite. The pie is probably the best item. Cookies are okay, but in the neighborhood you can get better cookies for the same price.
I was very excited to try milkbar, but I don’t think the desserts were worth the hype. It was very expensive and wasn’t all that tasty. The cereal milk ice cream didn’t really remind me of a delicious cereal. The cookies I had were just fine, the cereal cookie with marshmallows was the best one. The cake was dry and the cream cheese frosting didn’t pair well with the vanilla cake
After hearing about Milk Bar from podcast, I decided to check out the hype. While I am not all that crazy about sweets but my roommate is, and we both hated it. Price point wise I can understand it from business point of view of price and demand.I just didn’t care for the taste of all 6 I got, and it was even bigger turn off that it was packaged, what a waste of plastic and what bakery uses plastic package. It was so sweet that I stopped half and my roommate wanted to throw rest of it away.As other reviewers said, this place is very HYPED up.
I got the cereal soft serve with cereal crunch toppings. Soft serve was pretty much just sugar and toppings were pretty much salt. So it was sugar and salt with a bunch of other things. I think the soft serve you get on trucks is so much better than this
I dont understand the hype about this place. The portions are small and expensive and everything is super sweet. The flavors are pretty basic. I got the chocolate bday truffles and they tasted like normal brownies. The people working behind the counter are chill though. 5 stars for the service, -2 stars for the food.
I threw out the slice of cake and the milkshake I paid a whole lot of money for. The cake tasted like it sat in its box for days, and was so dry. I tried to wash it down with their chocolate milkshake, and got a mouth full of malt powder. They were rushed, and i dont know why everything is already made and packaged. If youre making a trip to NYC to try new and exciting places, avoid this one. Waste of money.
Great small dessert spot if you need a little something sweet! Milk Bar is known for its unique desserts; the East Village location may be small but it has all the flavors and treats you’d be looking for.My personal favorites are the birthday cake truffles, compost cookie, and cereal milk soft serve. Can’t go wrong with any great here! Great spot to grab dessert after a meal in the area, to pick up something to share with others, or just to treat yourself.
Super super tiny spot! Definitely a “know what you want before you get there” place. First time coming I would’ve like to skim the menu a sec. Cashier was trying to keep the line moving so you kinda felt rushed to order. I decided on the “Cereal Milk soft serve” which has cornflakes on the bottom and the rim! Flavor of soft serve was okay to me it kind of tasted spoiled but my friend loved it!... I actually preferred the “Milk Bar Pie” soft serve tasted way better... overall a decent place.🍦
Milk bar is always a good idea! This is a tiny little spot in the heart of east village with barely room to stand inside but they have put some benches outside the store where you can sit and enjoy your desserts. The soft serve with the crunchy topping is the real star of the place. Love their cake pops too.
Its a nice dessert spot. They offer a variety of cakes, truffles, ice cream and shakes. My wife and I went a couple of times to the different locations. Its always a great dessert after a nice dinner.I just wish they would have a spot in Brooklyn.
I have to admit, I am addicted to sugar. When I heard about Milk Bar, I was really interested to see what the fuss was about. I ordered a slice of Milk Bar pie (crack pie) and a slice of Birthday cake. I hate to say, I was a little disappointed. The cake was too sweet, even for me! I couldn’t eat it. The pie was okay, but I guess with all the hype, I expected more.
THIS PLACE IS A MUST GO TO IF YOU ARE IN NEW YORK. The soft serve is so nostalgic and reminds you of eating cereal for breakfast as a kid. The birthday cake truffles were also delicious and soft, almost like raw cookie dough but not as raw. The crack pie was also out of this world. Highly recommend going here
Though this place is tiny and lacking seating, the place itself is quaint and those behind the counter are friendly and super helpful! Not a fan of the cereal ice cream but thats just me! 😁Grabbed a crack pie for my birthday and for my family that hasnt tried it and it was amazing! Everyone loved it but its just a little too sweet along with the cookies like the Blueberry cream cookie. The compost cookie was nice and I have another Ive yet to try but overall, its a great place to drop by and try!
Got a cereal milk and cornflake crunch sundae with chocolate drizzle. I would post a picture but I inhaled it in 2 minutes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Dont believe the hype. I stopped here yesterday and was surprised to find this bakery sells packaged cookies. What kind of bakery sells cookies like that? Are they fresh? Well, I found out....no.I picked up a Compost Cookie and thought the Corn Cookie sounded interesting. The Compost cookie saw so disgustingly sweet that it was nearly inedible. The corn cookie had an interesting flavor, but was also waaaaay too sweet and not fresh. I love cookies and didnt finish either cookie. And they dont take cash. All around fail.
Very unique and enjoyable ice cream bar! Nothing quite like it.
Tasty ice cream that definitely lived up to its hype! Would have tasted much better if the staff was friendlier tho.It was my first time there, and I knew nothing about it aside from my friend telling me that I HAD TO TRY IT.I was asked in a very unfriendly/demanding tone on which ice cream I wanted, and what toppings. I asked her what’s the most popular and she just pointed to the flavours on the board (not helping??). Showed her the picture my friend sent me and asked if she could do it.She proceeded to turn her back on me without a word and prepared it.Would definitely have it again (else where), but wished I wasn’t so expensive!😕
The crack pie is very good...great depth of flavor, not too sweet, and excellent crust. But is it life altering? Not for me personally. But I truly enjoyed it and believe everyone should try the crack pie at least once. I took home a packages of the truffles to try (chocolate and party cake). Tried the party cake already. They are tasty...but I definitely prefer the crack pie. My friend got fruity pebbles ice cream...it was also tasty. Nothing is too sweet here...which I like...just nothing was as earth shattering as I would have expected. The following night: I have now tried the chocolate truffles. Sooooo incredibly good I am adding back the one missing star I did not give it night. I am not sure how to describe how heavenly they were. Truly they are a chocolate lovers dream...but once again...not too sweet!!!
Definitely out of expectation when I first tried it. Yes!!! It is salty and saltier than whatever impression you have to ice cream. But! It’s an interesting combination of salty and sweet and hell strong flavor of milk.I don’t care about the hypes, I didn’t even know this place until dine at the Saam bar next door, but it’s gonna be a must have every time I come by.Actually also had the birthday cake truffles, both vanilla and chocolate, very good but too sweet for me, will skip in the future.
The location is a little small and quaint but staff were friendly and efficient. I had been waiting to try the cereal milk ice cream and I loved every bit of it. I got the twist with regular cereal milk and fruity pebble flavored. The best part about this icecream was the end. If you ask for cereal topping they put a layer on the bottom. By the time you reach the bottom, the melted ice cream is like flavorful milk in your cereal.I tried a couple of the other desserts my friends had ordered and overall I really enjoyed my experience. I personally prefer desserts with malty and slightly salty flavors. I could see how others might not feel the same, but I definitely plan on bringing other people to experience the flavors of Milk Bar.
Paid $10 for a small piece or cake. Never seen those prices anywhere before. The cake was drier than a Sahara Desert and way too sweet. Almost inedible. Overhyped, overpriced place.
DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING ONLINE!!Ordered online on 12/7 for delivery on 12/18. Nothing was delivered on 12/18 or 12/19. Called customer service and no answer of course. Sent an email and still no reply. Tracking number has no scheduled delivery date. This was supposed to be a gift to given to 7 people on 12/19. Good going Christina!!!
I visited the East Village location after watching a Netflix special about Milk Bar. Maybe because the East Village location is not the main location, the store did not offer some items and the food tasted stale not fresh. The fan favorite Crack Pie (made with a toasted oat crust and gooey butter filling) was cold and felt a bit like eating into a pie filled with hard sweet cookie dough. The milk in the Crunchy Cereal Shake did taste like milk that has been sitting in cereal (what they are known for and I wanted that!), but, also tasted a bit on the sour side. I bought several cake truffels for home which unfortunately did not taste fresh. I wanted this place to be everything it was raved about but did not reach those expectations. It could have just been a off day.
Very disappointed. Firstly, we ordered the chocolatey sampler and they sent us the regular one. We ordered this after watching “Chef’s Table” on Netflix. However, nothing special about any of it. We were expecting a home made type of taste which was what they highlighted in the show.Looking at each cookie wrapper, it was mind boggling to see the amount of chemicals listed in the ingredient labels. (Probably used for preservation & texture). I wish I had taken a picture but it’s way more than what’s in any grocery store cookie. Not worth paying $50 to consume a load of artificial ingredients.I give the 1 star for fast delivery.
The best baked treats I’ve ever encountered, by a huge margin. Amazing.
Everytime I or a friend has a bday coming up, I come a buy a million cookies. I just love it so much. Its very rich and sweet so its a nice treat every once in a while. Their cake however, is too sweet. Though I have a huge sweet tooth, it was way too sweet for me to handle. Their classic cereal milk ice cream is always a go to, and now even more so now that summers around the corner.
Adorable location, albeit small. Milk Bar East Village is one of my go-to dessert places in the neighborhood. The staff is always friendly and happy to explain what is what to you as well as provide recommendations. My friends come with me when visiting and I dont eat a lot of sweets so this is super helpful. Beware of lines sometimes itll get super long but the staff is always quick to help out and serve customers. However, definitely a great place for desserts thatll satisfy different ages and give you a small trip down nostalgia lane with cereal milk.
Line always seems to be long but it’s always so quick. Highly recommend their infamous milk bar pie. Add in their ice cream too. Heavenly
The most delicious soft serve in New York comes from this tiny establishment in a trendy neighborhood! Not too far from many attractions and worth any walking it requires to get there- I definitely recommend visiting at least one Milk Bar in New York City (though you may want to go every day.) The staff wasnt exceedingly friendly from my perspective as a Southerner but that was a common experience in my trip to NYC as a whole (ATTN those south of the Mason-Dixon! X) ) Nevertheless their tip jar sign made me laugh and I would still recommend this place for young and old alike.
It’s ok if your just looking for novel soft serve ice cream. The Cereal Milk lives up to its name and does just taste like you made ice cream with the dregs of your morning bowl of Cornflakes. If you’re looking for real ice cream this isn’t the place but if your looking for good east coast food hype served with some quaint atmosphere this is your spot.
They are way over priced. They need to start using more eco-friendly / green packaging. Everything in plastic. Dont you know your customers care about the earth/ planet.Beyond that, they literally have horrible customer service. Could care less about their customers. There website / ordering process is atrocious. I get its covid, but literally everyone else has figured out how to operate online....they havent. Inventory inaccurate and locations for pick up / delivery completely inconsistent.Horrible experience here. You need to step it up Miss Tosi if you want to keep charging those prices.
Youd order a cereal milk ice cream here like you would order a big mac at mickie ds
I dont usually leave bad reviews but this review isnt for their dessert but their staff. Extremely extremely rude.
Birthday cake is amazing!! Ended up buying a whole cake for my partner’s birthday! Definitely a must have!
For all of you that came here because of Netflix, this place just proves that the chefs show is basically a paid ad. There was absolutely nothing special about the food in this ‘bakery’ (they don’t even bake stuff here it seems). Just a sugar bomb. Very unsophisticated. Won’t come back and learned a lesson not to trust those Netflix scams.
This place has been on my bucket list since I saw it on food network. Finally got to check it out yesterday. Every bit as sweet as you would expect. The crack pie (can’t remember what it’s called now) was very good. The cookies are super sweet and the shakes are nothing to write home about. Fun to check it off my bucket list, but probably wouldn’t be a regular if I lived in the area.
Milk Bar lives up to all the hype and expectations. The signature items are cereal milk ice cream, milk bar pie and birthday cake. Be aware that the birthday cake is really sweet. Order cereal milk ice cream or milk bar pie if you prefer the savory sweet. The mini bar is small there’s no seating. The flagship location has a large amount of indoor seating to sit with friends or dates.
I stopped here with my wife and got a cup of the cereal milk soft serve with the crunchies on it. My wifes ice cream (a birthday quake) was ok but not great. Mine, however, just tasted like sour milk. I ended up throwing it all out.Save yourself the time waiting in line and the money and just go to Carvel. Better yet, go to Ample Hills or Van Leeuwen.
This is a tiny little spot in the heart of east village with barely room to stand inside but they have put some benches outside the store where you can sit and enjoy your desserts. The soft serve with the crunchy topping is the real star of the place.
Cereal milk soft serve is delicious!!! 😋
This first time I came to Milk Bar I was actually turned off by the ice cream and it really bummed me out. I really wanted to like this place. I love salt and I love sweet and I love cereal milk, but it was REALLY salty and milky. I thought maybe it was a salty batch or something so I tried again. This time I got the compost cookie shake. It was so $%(* good but I should admit that I will take chocolate over any flavor any day. I tried my friends cereal milk ice cream and it wasnt as salty as I remember, but still unpleasantly milky for me. Not the same taste as a bowl of cereal milk, more like salty powdered milk or something. I look forward to going back and trying something else next time.
Corn flake ice cream was weirdly salty and bland, but the vanilla birthday cake was amazing...4 stars.
We came here after dinner at a nearby restaurant. Id heard about it from a friend and knew it was quite a popular place, so we werent surprised to find a queue outside. We only waited around 10 minutes or so though, as the queue was moving quite quickly. I dont have an especially sweet tooth but it had been an exceptionally hot day and ice cream was really appealing; my friend had recommended both the cereal milk ice cream and the crack pie, so we bought a portion of each, and loved both! The cereal milk ice cream was wonderfully nostalgic of the taste of actual leftover cereal milk from my childhood, while the crack pie was just total indulgence, and a nice balance of both sweet and rich. Its always fun to try a couple of hype places offering something unique and this was worth it for us.
Super friendly staff. Awesome tasting soft serve. The best part was that they put the topping on the bottom of the cup as well as the top of the ice cream. Was an awesome surprise and made for a well rounded dessert.
I saw this place on Chefs Table and was moved by the creativity and persistence of the owner. I decided to come up from Philly and give it a go. Upon trying some of the most enticing items, I found myself satisfied with the ice cream and crack pie. I was expecting something as mind blowing as the show lead on, but my ice cream world was not shattered. So that was a little bit of a let down but they have damn good ice cream and the crack pie is worth the cost.
Some tasty and unique deserts here. Particularly recommend the Cereal Milk ice cream and the Crack Pie. However, the lineups are often insane, and I would not say it is worth the wait if youre going to be in line for 30-plus minutes. Also many of their pre-packaged baked goods (such as the cookies) dont taste as fresh as you would hope for the price.
Dont order online. Never arrived. No communication, no tracking info supplied, no calls answered. Scam.
Like many, I made my way here after watching the episode on Chefs Table. I tried the Crack Pie, Cereal Milk Ice cream, Birthday Cake and Compost Cookie. All were good, but nothing that made me want any of it again. For me, it was all a little too salty. But I love the concepts and different flavors being explored so would say come check it out if you havent already done so - it was still a great way to finish an evening.
What a treasure. Believe the hype - cereal milk ice cream transports you back to childhood in the most magical way. Everything is delightfully indulgent and delicious, but you can’t leave without the soft serve.
Milk Bar is a tiny hole in the wall (almost literally) dessert bar. You can comfortably fit only about 4 people inside, so dress for the weather because youll be waiting on the line outside. The menu is short and sweet (pun intended); they dont make a lot of items but everything they do make it well-practiced and worth trying. Prices arent too bad either. This location is cash-free, so make sure you have your a card to pay with. Try the cereal milk ice cream and you wont be disappointed.
Ive been to this place a few times and its always great. Even if you end up getting something else, you have to try the milk ice cream. It tastes exactly like the milk in your cereal bowl at the end of breakfast. All sugary and delicious. Also, they have a sweet potato ice cream thats out of this world. Top it off with a corn cookie and you can officially die happy.
Had the pumpkin cake and it was delicious. Kind of expensive though
