Quite disappointed to be honest. The review on Google was very good so had a high expectation. Came for brunch on Saturday morning, they opened at 9am and not too busy before 11 so good chance no wait needed to get a table. Plenty of spaces for both indoor and outdoor which are good. The place has a good vibe and the greeting girl was nice. However it took quite long to get my food, maybe because of many delivery orders too.Food and drink wise, I ordered a grapefruit juice which costs $6 but as you can see in the picture it was a very small cup so I have to say it’s quite overpriced. For dish I ordered grey dog breakfast which has two eggs of any type, French toast or pancakes, home fries, bacon, sausage or avocado. It was a very nice combination as I always want to have both savoury and sweet for brunch. Overall everything was minimum seasoned so definitely healthy, but the French toast was barely meeting the minimum line. The inside of the brioche tasted just like plain bread, no flavour, nothing…….I have to say it is overrated unfortunately.
Great brunch spot or breakfast. Strongly recommend the French toast with eggs and bacon. I substitute in spicy cauliflower which was one of the best preparations I have ever had and I love cauliflower. Great casual brunch place easy to get in and out, super food. Check out the photos for all of these and check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic.
Vast difference from the Flatiron location. Much better vibe and much better service. And they had wings! The Spiked Palmer is amazing, the fish tacos were excellent and the Buffalo wings were insanely delicious! The restroom was very clean and the waitress was hilarious and super friendly. Ill definitely be revisiting this location. If not for the wings then definitely the service!
Food 5/5The last time I had The Grey Dog was around three years ago, and I didnt quite remember if I liked the food. Now I know for sure I LOVED the Breakfast Bowl, theres a reason its one of the most popular dishes on the menu. It wasnt too heavy, felt really healthy since there were plenty of greens and it came with sourdough toast. My friends also really enjoyed their orders of fried chicken sandwich and classic omelette. The rose petal matcha wasnt sweet at all, which is something I like.Service 4/5I felt as if they were understaffed, as it took quite a while for the waiters to attend to us and also for us to pay. Im sure there are COVID related reasons here, but theyre all very friendly.Interior 5/5Cute rustic, typical American brunch spot. I vibed with it, loved the framed pictures on the wall too.
This was the only restaurant that my wife and I visited in NYC that was not on my 4.7+>100 Reviews list. It was a very satisfactory meal but it was also nothing spectacular. The service however did go above and beyond. My wife chose this restaurant in particular because they served a coffee with some coffee art of a dogs paw and a heart (my wife adores dogs). She specifically ordered the drink so she could put it on Instagram. Unfortunately the drink did not come with the art as she expected and she asked the barista if he would be willing to redo it. He was very kind and graciously took it away to try again. We could then see him working away at the machine trying to get it just right. We really appreciated how hard he worked on it because it took him several tries and a fair amount of time. We really appreciated how much time, care and attention he took to fulfill her request. Thanks!
Avoid for brunch if you have any sense of value for your hard earned $$$. Lets just say this. $15 for 3, 6 luke warm flavorless pancakes on a small plate, is pathetic. Any NJ diner will blow you out in a second. Veggie burger was eh, french toast was bleh... Beet fries were not hot... Not sure if I liked any of their food. Kids didnt even really like the pancakes. $128 later for 4 people. Service wasnt so great either.
Always a decent place to dine. A step above fast food and a step down from premium casual. You heard me. The prices are fairly fair. And the service is quick. Not a big fan of the flow of the space when its in restaurant mode, vs cafe mode, but I understand why its necessary.
This place gives me healthy hipster diner vibes. Their bowls are flavorful, nutritious, affordable, and highly filling. The bottomless coffee definitely hits the spot in the morning. The waiting staff is very friendly, and more than willing to point you to the right things to order from the menu. Overall, I recommend this spot for a health-conscious brunch in Chelsea.
The best brunch I’ve had in NYC recently! The service was second to none, the outdoor space is beautiful, smartly designed, and available even at prime brunch time. The coffee brought me to life, and my nephew was thrilled he ventured into the hibiscus tea (I added a packet of sugar to sweeten it to his palate). We both got croissants with eggs and cheese: the bacon on his was crisp and delicious. Highly recommend.
Delicious, large menu complete with cocktails. Really fun, casual environment with friendly staff. Definitely a good spot to regularly meet up with friends.
The food here is great! Ive gotten avocado toast and a bowl before, both were great! The atmosphere is nice and getting in isnt super difficult right now, even on the weekends. The staff is super friendly and receptive if an order is wrong. Theyre relatively quick with service. Overall a great place!
Went on a Sunday brunch for the first (and last) time. Food was garbage (burger was terrible, everything was cold) and service even worse. Literally don’t understand what the buzz is about with this place.
If you’re in the area and looking for an amazing breakfast in a unique, cozy space with super-friendly and attentive service, run, don’t walk to the Grey Dog. This will be my go-to for all future visits to NYC. I had the Grey Dog breakfast with French Toast, scrambled eggs, home fries and bacon. Everything was exceptionally delicious. The home fries were easily the best I’ve ever had. That perfect level of crisp on the outside and creamy inside. Don’t waste any time comparing reviews for other places. Just come here!
Great service from friendly waitresses. Breakfast was very tasty and served in a timely manner. Would definitely return
Tasty delicious beyond amazing mostly healthy foooood !!!!!!! Homemade vegan burger, tacos, roasted Cauliflower, roasted brussel sprouts, avocado hummus...etc. this place was my place and now after covid its even more beautiful!!! The staff, the design, the setup, the music... you just feel that you are in your friends living room except that your friend a.k.a staff is so warm, accomodating and gives you an amazing service. So basically you feel the comfort of a friendly place, the taste of a real restaurant and enjoy the unique atmosphere of chelsea! If you want to study, work, brunch, enjoy a happy hour with a friend on weekdays, sit alone or with friends! Thats your go to. Absolutely welcoming not snobish at all. Light and warm atmosphere. Again the food and everything is just perfect. And bonus: its not only a millenial go-to spot, here you can find any real New Yorker, including the most beautiful .... dogs
The Grey Dog is terrific. Very well managed; friendly and professional staff; plentiful menu and beverage choices; and competitive pricing. Quality restaurant with a casual atmosphere.
Visited on Sunday for brunch. We waited in line first to order our food and drinks. Then the server found a table for us and delivered the food to our table. It was definitely busy but the wait wasnt too long. It was a little bit annoying because they kept shouting out peoples name for food and it was a bit too loud to hear them while we were sitting at the table. The decorations inside was very cute and felt cozy. The food was good as well. The cucumbers inside the avocado sandwich made it feel refreshing despite the heavy cheese and avocado. The portions were really big as well.
Neat restaurant in Chelsea. Staff was nice and food was good. I got the Grey Dog Club but unfortunately I had allergies and couldnt get the sauce with it. Would give it like 3.5 - 4 for the sandwich without sauce but 4.5 for service.
I went to The Grey Dog with my husband for brunch and I ordered tacos and orange juice for myself and my husband got himself some French Toast. When I got my juice it was warm like it was sitting out for a while and I took one sip with a straw and noticed the cup had a lipstick stain and was not cleaned properly it was dirty on the inside. So I let the waiter know that the cup was dirty and if he could just get me a new drink. He took the juice to the back and brought me a new one but it was obvious he just poured the juice from the dirty glass into the new glass. I didnt want to confront him because I didnt want to upset anyone At this point I had completely lost my appetite and did not feel like eating anymore. I ended up not eating anything so it was just a bad experience for me.
Such a wonder staple in NYC after so many years of great food, service, and cocktails to come at all locations. You are to be commended Dave.
Had the most amazing time here!!! They have one of the best Happy Hours in the city and the food is hard to beat. Our server, Jahir could not have been kinder, goes for the whole staff as well. My roommate and I are brand new to the city and already planning to come back here! 10/10 experience for sure.
Simple brunch. Bottomless coffee. Omelet tastes perfect. Yay
French toast tasted great! Just a little too sweet. I didnt need to use any syrup. The eggs however were severely undercooked with part of the whites still completely liquid. Staff was overworked, but very nice and attentive as they could be.
Sunday lunch...the food was good. The servers were very attentive and very nice.
I was charged double for a meal. After pointing this out, no one bothered to do anything. Not worth the hype.
I absolutely love this little cafe. In fact the others are good as well (there are 4 in lower Manhattan). The quirky decor is fun, the food is delicious and the drinks are always hot or cold. From the street it looks small, but once inside there is plenty of rooms for friends to share a meal. It feels like home.
Food is good. Ambiance is nice. Servers are friendly.
We went to the Grey Dog for a late brunch Friday before our flight out of NYC and had a wonderful time. The staff is incredibly friendly, the food is tasty and it comes in ample portions for sharing. Free coffee refills were also greatly appreciated. In particular, we really loved how spacious it was; we had no problem tucking away our excessive luggage while eating. Would definitely recommend if youre in the Chelsea area!
Great food and excellent service. They checked to see if we had COVID vaccines!
Great for groups, dates, drinks, laptop working, friends, snacks, and just relaxing. Friendly service, great food with nice variety and decent prices. Healthy and good portion sizes. Try the mac and cheese and burgers. Zucchini noodles with pesto and tofu is really good for a light meal. Sweet potato fries are firm, soft and crunchy at the same time.
Great breakfast options and amazing house blend tea! Im trying to stay away from coffee for a while and Im exploring interesting tea options - this was a blast. They discourage staying there for too long and using laptops while there - which is fine, because, given that this is not a traditional coffee shop. The coffee smelled great but I couldnt try it as I was in a coffee break, so cant say anything about that but do try the house blend tea.
I had a great veggie omelette but the thing you NEED to try is breakfast bowl. It has so much hearty goodness in one dish and then the avocado hummus just knocks it out of the park. Great coffee and tea, too.
Neighborly, friendly. Loved the French toast.
Excellent find. Within walking distance from where we were staying, but even if not, it would have been worth the trip. Got the breakfast tacos and wow. Delicious coffee, lots of non-dairy creamer options. Helpful staff and very hipster (not annoyingly so) vibe in the place. Lots of seating. Cool decor. Fun music. Definitely recommend.
Our go to neighborhood brunch spot. Love this place. Such a chill vibe.
Stay away! Tacos are inedible... first we made the mistake of ordering pork belly tacos... more fat than meat...disgusting!! Sent them back and asked for the chicken tacos... ugh... i dont know what meat they use but its not chicken... totally disgusting.
Service was great, average food, great coffee and fair pricing. Skip the Bloody Mary tasted like cold red salt water. I always try a Bloody at any new place. The worst I have ever had by a mile. The staff asked if they could take it off the bill and did. I would go again and try something different.
OMG THE MAC N CHEESE HERE IS BOMB!I love macaroni and cheese and this one tops the list for me. I thought the best mac I’ve ever had was from Cafeteria, but after having this bomb app teaser of a mac n cheese I’m giving this one 5 stars and a feature of my must go restaurants in NY list. Also, veggie burger is bomb, beef burgers are bomb, everything avocado here is bomb, all the beer on tap are bomb. Heck! EVERYTHING here is BOMB AF! Please try their mac when you visit! I’m looking forward to visiting again for some of that yummy and very delectable mac with so much flavor. I need their recipe!
The Grey Dog is always a solid choice. Delicious food, fun ambiance, great music, and great service! I got the avocado toast with a side of bacon and it was perfect. Great selection on the menu too!
We were looking for a spot to round out our Friday in NYC, and The Grey Dog did not disappoint! We worked from here for the afternoon, and we enjoyed a couple sodas and even partook in Happy Hour (4pm-7pm). Staff was superb and the vibe is right in the gay district, so their soundtrack/playlists are very engaging and I caught myself singing along to just about every song. Highly recommend!
Great place to eat, delicious, was full, you can check that with the massive waiting time it had at lunch, however the service time was extremely fast, great menu and options, recommended for tourists and locals.
Great food at a great price. Friendly staff, too!
The staff just makes you feel at home! Fiona Gabe us topnotch service!!
Good food but small portions compare to price. The service is bad. The hosts didnt know how to mange the waiting line! She let in some people before others! Didn’t care when she was told who came first!!!
The drinks were fantastic, and our server Connor was absolutely wonderful! Highly recommended!
Good HH wings. Not too busy if you go early.
Very friendly staff, amazing vibe and unreal food - one of the best omelettes Ive ever had. I cant wait to come back in a post-COVID reality because the music was top notch and definitely seems like a place youd like to have one too many mimosas and let the day get away from you. Cheers!
Had brunch with some friends here and really enjoyed the experience! Staff were friendly, food was delicious (that berry butter thing was soooooo good), and I really enjoyed the French toast! The interior was so cute, and I really enjoyed the ambience of this place. Prices are pretty good given the location. I would recommend this place to a friend.
Very slow service! Hot inside the place,on a hot humid day they had door open. Insufficient air conditioning, food ok server very bland no personality. A port in the storm but id probably not go back!!!!!!
Nice people and even nicer food. Pancakes are fluffy, bacon a bit overdone. Breakfast bowl is really good.
Cute little restaurant. Great real food. I would eat here again when I am in the city.
Oh wow ~ cannot wait to visit my son again, who just moved to Chelsea. This little gem is AMAZING! Just like something Id find in my backyard of Downtown St. Pete, FL! I imagine Ill be going back often, as there was so much on the menu Id love to try. The baked Mac & cheese I had was terrific, and the staff very helpful and courteous! Great job to everyone who works there!!! The only reason I didnt give them 5⭐s, it because it was a tad toasty and humid inside, and our fries werent nearly as crispy as we had requested they be.
Terrific brunch spot, and warm and friendly staff that make the experience all the more better.
I love this place! It is a very cute, little spot for brunch. The staff was very helpful and attentive. I ordered the grey dog breakfast and it was delicious! It is also a good amount of food fir a great price! Overall good experience.
Tasty food. Friendly staff!
Fantastic breakfast comfort food. Definitely worth the wait!
Great food and great service!! Fun atmosphere!
Stopped for lunch. Great sandwiches and friendly service.
Always a great experience. The perfect comfort food!
A busy spot but they have a system that makes it not so bad, plus the food is worth the wait. The hazelnut coffee was one of the best I had my entire time in New York. I had a tuna steak salad that was yummy but could have done with a bit less oil in the dressing (but still, I ate every bite.) Their fries are exceptionallyseasoned. The fish tacos were dripping with flavor in that beer batter. The only thing that bummed me out was I wanted more of that coffee (it came with free refills) but didnt want to get back into the long line to grab it and didnt know where to get it from a waiter since they dont really have waiters there. So know everything you want once you go up to order!!
So, another one of our random finds! We were just here on Mother’s Day snd I need you to not listen to ANY of the poor reviews. First of all, welcoming is an understatement to describe the personality of the staff. They were more than friendly snd spoke to us like we’ve been here 100 times or we were regulars even though it was only our first. The service alone will bring us back.Only negative...it took a TAD long to get our drinks, longer than usual...but their professionalism and happiness negates this instantly.Happy hour entails a spiked Arnold Palmer their own way with Prosecco for $5 .....WHY WOULDNT YOU??. Absolutely delicious and definitely one of their staples. Another seem to be staple is what I (among many nearby patrons) ordered...the grey dog club. If you’re a sandwich person...order it. The bread was fresh, and the quality of the food is definitely above the mark. Everything was succulent and flavorful. My other half had the spinach salad which she thoroughly enjoyed, along with an order of sweet potato fries...Let me just take a second here to tell you that we not only ordered another Palmer, but we got an extra order of sweet potato fries after our meal. THATS how good they were.Definitely a nice little gem in Chelsea. Great date spot or casual lunch/dinner grab.
I loved the atmosphere in here. It is quite DIY (choose your table, order at the counter, collect water, cutlery). The vibe is lovely, staff friendly and food came out quickly. A homely feel to it all. Very reasonably priced. I went for the Grey Dog breakfast (as was after a typical American breakfast complete with syrup and bacon). Was not disappointed.
I recently turned 44. Been calling nyc home for most of those years. I was a teenager here in 90s. But Im not going to be one of those people constantly, incessantly reminiscing on the good old bad days.So whilst I was reading about this place, my caveman nyc instinct kicked in and I was thinking the food couldnt be that good because it sounds like theyre so...nice?They gave me a welcome as a new customer discount and my order was ready on time. The sandwich was delectable and it was just great. Price is surprisingly affordable for the area when you consider how high quality the food is.Would recommend.
