Every time I go to the city, I have to stop by Tobys Coffee! Rich, authentic roasted coffee made by such talented baristas. Also, if you enjoy a little reading or shopping, there is both an adorable bookstore and clothing boutique in the shared space!

Best Espresso Tonic. Cozy seating, though not a lot of seating. You can peruse some books while you sip your coffee. Very nice place, will be back.Edit: their seasonal drinks rotate. The espresso tonic is bomb. The mint julep is also super unique and absolutely delicious. And service is very kind.

Fancy looking coffee shop tucked in the vicinity of flatiron building. I was craving hot chocolate after my lunch one day and decided to give this place a try. In terms of decor this is very cool and is connected to a book shop which is in the back.I was not at impressed with my $6 hot chocolate, it actually tasted more like a latte than a hot chocolate. Very disappointed.Giving them 2 stars because of the decor and helpful staff.

Variety of flavors available for the coffee connoisseur in you... I had a regular latte but did get to taste Brazilian as well as Colombian coffee they had.. The common consensus was that they did taste great.. The place is cozy... Had a good collection of books to buy.. And for the fashionista in you, a decent collection of women clothing..

This is one of the best coffee places in the area. Asides from having good coffee there is a beautiful space in the back which feels very homey and doubles as a strand bookstore. If you need a moment to relax from the big crowds around the flat iron district, this is the place to go.

Tasty coffee but very small location, oddly located within a clothing store. The Strand bookshop also seems to be operating a location within Tobys adding to the nesting doll feel. Brightly lit but impossible to find a seat and worst of all: no bathroom.

Toby’s located inside the entrance to a pretty cool and modern looking bookstore, is pretty modern looking itself. It wouldn’t be out of place in Paris. The line can get a bit long and the small place crowded, but it moves fairly quickly due to a good staff. The cold brew on tap is very good though a bit gritty later in the day. The coffee is very tasty though, and though the iced variety is pretty packed with ice to presumably take up space, it doesn’t get too watered down. It’s not the best coffee in the city, but it is definitely above average.

Great coffee, mediocre seating. I very much like the coffee here - especially the iced coffee. Its not reinventing the wheel and is a bit overpriced (as to be expected of coffee places of this ilk, like Irving Farm etc.), but nevertheless everything Ive had from there has been great. The physical space is very pretty (high ceilings, lots of light) and connects to a bookstore inside, which is nice. However if you want to sit with a friend and chat its a bit awkward - just has a row of bar stools.

I first came across the Tobys in Brooklyn, where I discovered their Apple Betty which is super delicious - so I popped in to get another one here. Why on earth do you charge high prices for your coffees, and ask your clientele to “go over to Nike to use their restroom.” Completely unacceptable when a customer is trying to enjoy their experience at your cafe. The most unprofessional comment I received was to “go to Starbuck’s to use their restroom.” As a customer of another coffee shop, I feel it is inappropriate to ask me to head to Starbuck’s.” The iced latte was average, and not even filled to the top. Overpriced and underwhelmed with this experience.

Coffee here was just ok. Came in trying to escape the heat and the doors were wide open. It was even hotter and more humid inside. Poorly chosen combination for a coffee shop.

I dont know why people continue to go to this place. I gave them a 2nd try and no more. The staff is obnoxious, they have the smallest, unclean, area for milk/sugar and if you even dare to ask for soy milk its portioned out for you. I asked for soy milk and I overheard one of the staff members behind the counter ask the guy if I had asked for soy - what the heck?! They dont make eye contact or smile - obviously not a fun place to work. BUT, they are happy to have the tip jar right in your face and the tip option when you pay with a credit card.

Agree with everything Dave Hong says. 4.5 stars for the coffee - delicious Ethiopian pour over drunk straight is another option if you are tired of espresso drinks. But 3 stars for atmosphere--nowhere to sit, and all the charm of a chain retail store on 5th avenue. The Strands backdrop of books is really just decor IMHO. Staff were congenial and efficient (Saturday morning 10am queue was kept manageable). Better off getting take-away there and going to the park for some nice daylight.
