Food was really great and enjoyable. Felt like I sat down for a home cooked meal. The seasonal cocktail drink was refreshing. The tiramisu for dessert was incredible and definitely worth coming back to try again. The only thing disappointing in was the ability to not sit in the garden. Wish they told me it wouldnt be available before making a reservation to come and eat.
This restaurant is genuinely a hidden gem . They offer big Italian menu along with a variety of coffee, desserts, appetizers and small plates such as miniature Pizzas. This is definitely a restaurant that can serve many dining desires. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating available is both in front and when you walk into the back of the restaurants they have a beautiful outdoor garden seating area that you would never expect to be there. I really found this to be a beautiful and romantic atmosphere. My experience was lunch after a random walk in Washington Square Park and it is definitely a place we would want to experience for dinner.
We got to sit in one of the cute little outdoor glass tents which was a vibe! The indoor was a bit dark for me but it could be very cozy an intimate date spot. The pizza con speck was delicious as it was topped with smoked prosciutto, and I replaced the sauce with spicy arrabbiata sauce, so you know the combo had to be amazing! The feta lasagna is my second favorite dish, it was flavorful and very filling!
Customer service has been a 10/10. There’s a cute Nona walking around making sure everything is perfect. Which I loved! We had the lasagna flight. It’s amazing!, Such a great idea. You have to try it y’all! We also had the crostini it was also delicious. For drinks we had the menlona it’s their twist on the Manhattan also good.
A gem in West Village! We discovered La Lanterna last year in December and have gone there 6 times already:-)From the host Vittorio to other staff members like Tamer everyone is super welcoming. The food at La Lanterna is beyond special; from their bruschetta to lasagna to the best tiramisu in the world, every single dish is exquisite!!Their lasagna bolognese, roasted pepper bruschetta, and tiramisu are a must have!!! If someone ends up going on a super cold day do not forget to order a cup of hot chocolate . It was so good that we had back-to-back three cups of itIt is truly a hidden gem!!!!
We had a very good experience here on a busy Saturday night in Washington square. The desserts were on point and the drinks were excellent. Outdoor seating was a major plus and the fact that they closed down the street for dining is awesome in my opinion. Waitress and hostess both incredibly nice people. Just be leery of the panhandling homeless as they will sneak up behind you to ask for money so stay alert.
We came here spontaneously, walked in after spent some time at Washington Park. We were lucky to get seated in their garden at the back. We couldnt decide which Bruschetta to have, Juan the waitress recommended we can have each of 3 different kinds. They were very delicious! I love that they have 20s different Martinis, we got Lychee, Creamy Chocolate and Banana Split, these are strong and flavorful. The service is excellent, Juan was so nice and helpful. Overall, we had a very good time here. I highly recommend without reservation!
This is such a wonderful restaurant, the menu is quite large which is a little overwhelming but the food is wonderful which makes up for it. Service is always good and prompt, and their cocktails and after dinner drinks are 10/10. I highly recommend the Belgian coffee for dessert.
Seated in the basement near a kitchen in the complete dark despite having a reservation ; food was okay. Genuinely hard to see anything
Great Italian food. Great service
We initially sat in the outdoor igloos set up to provide an enclosed, outdoor dining experience and while its a beautiful and charming option, unfortunately it also leaves guest as a target for the neighborhood riff raff. The staff tries to do what they can, but, understandably, that ends up not being too much. So bare it in mind if you see pics of these igloos and want to visit-- you may have your evening interrupted. But LLDV is a Village staple, around for decades and hopefully decades more, and it retains its signature charm, consistently good food and unique ambiance. Id recommend going inside for the best experience and save room for desert; all of which is homemade.
I have come here for a long time. This has always been one of my favorites in this neighborhood area. I highly recommend their pizza.
Im not sure if it was a off night for the restaurant but my friend and I sat at the igloo outdoor dinning. It was beautiful and nice. Our waiter was a little questionable we asked him about ordering the wine and he only brings one glass for us to share the sample. In these times of covid your asking friends to share a wine glass? I already had my eyebrows raised at that suggestion. We ordered a mushroom pizza which was cold and very soggy on the bottom. All I could think about was Chef Ramsey saying oh my very dreadful. The pizza was so soggy that I will not come back.
Arrived at 8pm. Water came late, fine. Appetizer came relatively on time. But then after about an hour, we still hadnt received our meals. We told the waiter we had a show to go to, continually reminded the waiter we were running out of time and food was promised in 4 minutes. After another 30 minutes (an HOUR AND A HALF after we sat down) they told us they had lost the check and kitchen was just starting. We had to leave and they didnt even comp us any appetizers or drinks. We tipped the waiter and begrudgingly left, hungry, dejected, and terribly frustrated with our experience.
Amazing food. Very sweet and homey staff. We loved this meal from beginning to end. Thank you so much guys 💝 Picture attached is my very satisfied father. Who was raised in new York and was so happy to come back and find some good Italian food after 30+ years of being away from his home town, holding his very very yummy calzone
Truly one of the most romantic spots in the NYC. The garden in the back makes you feel like you are sitting in Italy somewhere enjoying the food. Speaking of food, amazing Pizzas, and lasagna. Desserts and Frozen cappuccino with homemade whip cream were delicious. Must visit in Heart of the Village. Stop by next time you are by NYU.
Just went here for my birthday, while the food was great, they overcharged us $70 for drinks that my table did not order. Planning to call today and get this sorted out, but very disappointed as there were 3-4 mistakes on the receipt which was over $850. UPDATE - called and the manager was EXTREMELY rude stating that this charge was correct and his waiter did not accidentally double charge (which was the case). Very disappointed at the customer service of this establishment. I guess this serves as a reminder to always triple check the receipt at the end of a meal.
This place is so good!! Their bruschetta is easily the best thing I’ve ever tasted. I went there months ago and I still dream about it to this day. The tomatoes were so fresh they tasted like they were just picked from the ground. It was perfectly seasoned with salt, basil, and oregano. Don’t even get me started on their balsamic vinegar. I put that on everything I ate that day (not joking). It was amazing. We also got their pizza con cipolla e caprino. Hands down the best pizza I’ve ever had. definitely recommend this place!!!
Food was great; manager’s a jerk.Had a wonderful time at dinner with a large group. When double checking the receipt, found out they charged us for 6 drinks we did not order. Called the manager to get it corrected, manager wouldn’t even consider that mistakes were made on their end and the manager hung up on us. Strong case of “my word against yours” and a manager who may be in the wrong profession.
It’s a hidden gem very large Italian menu pizza, salad and pasta dishes are delicious authentic testy south Italian food 5 start service, staff are very friendly they accommodated us (6 in party) 11pm definitely visit again
I had a good lasagna bolognese. We sat outside in the “patio” which is in the little huts on the street. The food was good, service was fine, and only interrupted by a crew of motorcycle a-holes who had their mufflers unmuffled — like macho men compensating for their tiny brains with big illegal noise levels emanating from their machines. It was packed and so that might have explained why my Campari came 30 minutes later than the others wine.
My favorite kind of NYC places...cozy, old time, hole in the wall with really good food...too hot to sit in garden yesterday but definitely would be nice. Great service as well. Will return soon.
I really like the ambiance in the garden. It’s a really romantic atmosphere and it’s smoke free. The waiter’s performance may be improved but it’s still worth it.
Came in here on Sunday night and was most definitely impressed! The service was a 10/10! The location itself is so beautiful. The drinks were absolutely wonderful and delicious. Will definitely be coming back
Go for their lasagnas. Thats the fool-proof strategy. Their bolognese and pesto versions are both great.
Great beef lasagne, good pizza. Not the best atmosphere to enjoy your meal.
🎵🎶 going for years, favorite NYC hideaway, best midnight Jazz, desserts, cappuccino, and hot chocolate 🤫😎🎵
We had an unique experience here. We were sitted right away. They had multiple floors with different experience, it was hard to choose which floor we should be in. Listen to jazz or sit in the green house ambient with low lights. Desert tasted great, definitely a place to come back to. Wish the waitress was a bit more friendly, otherwise great.
Great restaurant with excellent food. We had the pizza and pesto lasagna, super tasty and the ambiance in the patio adds to the experience. Friendly staff as well, would definitely recommend anyone to come here
Authentic Village Cafe of yesteryear. Great atmosphere. Have the tiramisu and enjoy living.
The food was excellent, as always. However we sat in their covered, socially-distanced area (see-through walled and roofed hut like structures) outside, right in front of the restaurants main entrance; it was practically unbearable. The table was too small for the four of us, the ceiling of the structure was too low, the enclosing walls were too close, drastically reducing air flow. Temperature was too high and we were sitting too close to each other increasing the heat and with all that contributing to the perfect environment for spreading diseases. In theory they should work, but they need to provide a bigger sitting area and higher roofs to allow for better ventilation. Additionally, we were very disappointed with the service, the waitress seemed completely disinterested on serving our table, took for ever just for us to order, even longer to get the food and dont even mention getting something to drink. The waitress did not come by our table even once to ask if we needed anything after dropping our food off (like something to drink, perhaps). We did not have to wait too much for the dessert, nevertheless, we had to literally go to the cashiers station to ask for the check.
Took my fiance here for dinner. Was a bit disappointed by the menu this is more of a place to get a drink and appetizers which were delicious. Their wine menu was 2 pages long and drink menu was like a page and a half. All in all still had a nice experience
Very cute and charming decor and atmosphere. Garden is the best spot. Nice selection of teas and desserts. Had their homemade tiramisu and earl grey latte. Perfect!
They have decent martinis!😍😍😍😍Pizzas are good too. And the price is fair. They have a lovely garden on the back and cute little tents in front of the restaurant. Will definitely go back. One less star for the service. The server was not knowledgeable of their drinks and dishes who couldn’t give any recommendations. He was simply saying everything was good without even a little bit details.Update on 2/26/2021Came back with friends without a reservation on Friday night. Luckily got the last outdoor table on passengers way.It was nice, the server (maybe manager) made sure we have heater on and enough chairs and the table is not shaking😁I ordered a melbec, it tasted sour like vinegar taste. I guessed it was from a bottle opened a few days ago. I was afraid to talk to my waitress about it because she looked stressed and not too happy. But when the guy(manage) came back to chat with us, I politely mentioned it, he replaced a new full glass for me.We ordered pizza again, still good😋In general, I like this place and will keep coming back.
This is such a lovely place to go and have a coffee and something to eat. We had a pizza and it was one of the best pizzas we have ever had. The staff were fantastic, the two ladies that were working there were brilliant really nice to talk to. This place was recommended to us by a friend and I am so happy that they did its a gem
La Lanterna is a fantastic restaurant with a wonderful ambience, serving the best lasagna in the city. My girlfriend and I have been here 4 anniversary dinners in a row (as well as several other instances with friends and family) and plan to return for years to come. Pro tip: the pesto lasagna rivals the classic for best thing on the menu...
Such a lovely place, day or night. Parisian charm. There are three areas: the front cafe & bar, the veranda in the back of the place, and a huge basement with live music. The large menu has all sorts of Italian things (small plates, bruschetta of several kinds, pizza), a whole page of drinks like European coffee and tea, and half a page of delicious desserts. I went twice in one day - for a cup of an afternoon tea and evening wine and sweets with friends. The place is booming day and night. Friendly waiters, fast service, delicious food.
Try the four cheese lasagna with truffle! Is to die for!!! Great place for a first date :)
Excellent food. We always love the experience here from start to finish. The server we had today is fantastic! We loved him! He’s been there a while which I think is super cool and says so much about the work environment. I remember him from a few years ago. Tammer is his name I believe. I I’m not a New York native but these are the kind of special touches and experiences that make me so thankful I chose to make this my home. ♥️
Pasta is really good here - but I must say, their tiramisu is delicious. Only thing is for me tiramisu should not be served like a slice of cake (which it does in this place) but nonetheless it is yummy. It is a great friends get together kind of place. Backyard seating is recommended - it is a nice ambience.
A GEM!! Javier will take the best care of you. Unbelievably reasonable prices and the food is fabulous. The interior transports you out of NYC into some sort of alternate age likely somewhere in Europe. I felt very comfortable (re: covid) in the front/outdoor houses they have set up, each with a little heater. Please go support and enjoy!!
After being disappointed by a local slice shop, we began our search for more pizza, someplace we could sit down and have a negroni too. Lanterna di Vittorio more or less appeared for us as we were walking by, a real surprise in an era of eating dictated mostly by google maps results.Anyway, Im glad to see the reviews that do exist for this place, as they match quite well to my experience. This was second dinner, so we only ordered the appetizer focaccia, a few drinks, and a pizza to share. Everything was really great though - especially the focaccia. Served with hot chili oil, the slices of flatbread were like an italian take on toasted pita. We then subbed buffalo mozzarella for the standard on our pie, and added mushrooms - all was lovely.
Amazing food, drinks and lovely experience! Always recommend the lychee martini & ask for the spicy olive oil.
Great food! Great atmosphere! Good service and very attentive and not pushy at all. Didnt feel rushed at all. My wifes and mine one of the favorite spots in the city
The pesto lasagna was absolutely wonderful and the pizza goat cheese was amazing. Our two daughters and us really enjoyed the food and the service
Beautiful, cozy, welcoming and expensive place but ok its Manhattan and im from Italy! Perfect place for a break where to enjoy a coffee or coffee with liquors or very good cocktails. Supposed to be good also for dinner considering the good smell inside. We tried a caffè mola with whipped cream and a Martini (pretty strong and good). Beautiful cozy and romantic atmosphere on the small terrace in the covered garden behind!
Three friends and I came in with a 6 pm reservation for a Friday night. (They accept ressos for 4 people or more, but you just have to call them). It seemed pretty busy by then already, but our food still came out relatively quickly. We decided to just order a bunch of things and share:3-cheese course ($15) - choose any three cheese from the list. We went with the brie, stracchino, and mozzarella di bufala. All were great. You really cant go wrong with a cheese plateMesclun Con Anatra Affumicata ($14.50) - warm smoked duck breast with mixed greens in a lemon mustard dressing. This was a nice way to start the meal. I was afraid the smoked duck would be too salty, but it was perfect. The lemon mustard dressing was nice and light - not too mustardy. Even my friend, who doesnt like mustard, said it was goodPizza con Prosciutto Arrostito ($16) - pizza topped with tomato sauce, ham, mozzarella, basil & EVOO. This was nice and thin (not overly thin) and was the perfect size for four people (one slice each)Lasagna al Pesto ($15.50) - homemade pasta layered with pesto sauce, bechamel & parmigiano cheese. This was definitely the star of the show. I had never even heard of pesto replacing tomato sauce for lasagna before, so it was a welcomed twist to a classic. It would be pretty heavy for one person, so Im really glad that we decided to do family-style with all the dishesWe also ordered a bottle of wine, and our total for everything came out to $40 pp. With all that food, I dont think youd find a better price for the quality elsewhere. Our waiter wasnt that friendly, but then again, Im not really that friendly either, so its not a deal-breaker for me. At least he was attentive.Cant wait to come back!
Ive been a fan of the Tiramisu here for almost a year - it still is the best in the city!Since Ive only been making quick dessert stops at this place, I decided to try their vast food menu too and Im happy I did.Went with about 8 friends on a Saturday evening and the manager and waiter accommodated us even though it was super busy. Our waiter was so patient and sweet throughout the evening.I had the sweet potato soup - winner!Friends had the Hot Stuff coffee cocktails and all were super hits. The pizzas were large enough to be shared and flavorful. The lasagna was a little too cheesy for our liking. We tried the caramel pudding in addition to the Tiramisu and it was just oh so good!Absolutely love this place! If youre in the area, definitely check it out!
This might be my favorite Italian Restaurant I have been to! Extraordinary food is served here!
Food was great and the waiters were very kind. Definitely worth checking out if youre around.
They have these beautiful lanterns in the garden. Would definitely recommend this place to friends
My favorite place in the world! I eat there every time Im in New York...
Went there recently on a super cold Friday night. They managed to keep the outdoor space relatively warm.Food was tasty, good selection of wine and cocktails, the service was excellent even during the pandemic.Must try the tiramisu!
Beautiful place with giant menu of variety of pizzas, pastas, drinks, wines, coffees, desserts. The thin focacia bread with cheese was awesome. Seating in the garden after dark takes you away from the bustle and noise of Manhattan.
It is a great great restaurant. Try the pesto lasagna, is the best
I ordered bruschetta, lasagna bolognese and margherita pizza! Out of the three, the lasagna was by far the best tasting! Had a couple of wines that were delicious 😚👌They have 4 different atmospheres you can dine in. First is the cafe/bar type of area for quick bites. Second is the outdoor patio environment with a nice white noise from the fountain. Downstairs, they have a section for fine dining experience and another section for live music. Many options to choose from all in one place! It was a very cool experience and would highly recommend it.
This place looks amazingly gorgeous to eyes and the food is even better, specifically the pizzas.
Waiter rushed us but even though the food is excellent
Pricey but worth the visit. The garden seating is tranquil and dessert heavenly.
Absolutely amazing hidden gem right next to Washington Square Park! Great food, great prices and excellent service!
Got there as soon as it opened 10a.m so we were the first there (love) . Dim lit place with outdoor glass roof seating..the kitchen is downstairs along with the bathrooms and some extra seating space. they sat us in the back with the option of going outside which looks pretty btw... the tables are nice but pretty small so careful... anyway the drinks and wine were tasty . We realized the menu stated pizza after 12p.m nooo thats what we came for so i asked the waitress about it & she said we can order anything on the menu! Great... the pizza was very good not salty, crust crispy tastes just right ... we also got lasagna to go.. ok so the lasagna was a little disappointing maybe because it was take out? it had no sauce & not much cheese and when reheated it produced so much oil...i would give it another shot but not to-go .. ill definitely go back... nice place and the waitresses were also nice
Great atmosphere and delicious pizza!
Good vibe and good food, piza lasagna etc
Cozy place with very friendly staff.
