I loved the latte. And art was amazing . Thank you
Came Sunday at 11 and it was not too busy which is great because earlier in the week I tried at around 6pm and it was busier. There two huge communal tables. Tried one of the seasonals honey oat latte and it was great, earthy flavours. Love the name. Pop in if you are around garner district and midtown area
Great coffee shop that I went to to get some work done. I love that they have large tables where no one bugs you though you stay an hour or two sipping at your latte slowly typing away. They do not have wifi tho- so I tether off my phone. They have different milk substitutes which I appreciate since I don’t drink milk. Try the rose water latte that sounds amazing though I haven’t tried it, in the hour I was there at least half a dozen people tried it. This shop has other shops as well baristas are very friendly and helpful. Stop by to check it out!
With a name like Café Grumpy, the staff are anything but. I had a delicious lemon loaf and a turmeric latte (hot), a first for me to hear of and try. Both were really good. The cafe supports sustainability by selling reusable straws and giving a small discount on your beverage if you bring your own cup.
Out of all the other nearby café, this is the one I frequent daily and buy whole beans from on a biweekly basis. Other ones are Blue Bottle and Culture Espresso.Their beans are roasted in Brooklyn and in stock 3-5 days after roast date, which is within the optimal window for good espresso.Their staff is friendly, helpful, and know the minutiae in what makes great espresso.
Drip coffee was a little stale but vanilla latte was good
I came in here grumpy but I left a happy caffienated man. Its a little expensive and could have better seats but it is a nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee. I got a cold brew and it is basically a nice standard cold brew. My girlfriend got the matcha lemonade and it was a bit too matcha-y. Great service and atmosphere though, the art is cute and the barista let me taste a drink before getting it which was nice as well!
Ok, I’m not a coffee drinker but chai lattes are my specialty. I ordered a chai latte with almond milk and a vegan pumpkin spice loaf. The chai latte was not the best Ive had. The spice level was good just different, it was lukewarm I prefer hot but not mouth burning hot! And it was slightly sweetened and I thought could have been a teensy bit sweeter. But not as sweet as Starbucks! As per the pumpkin loaf. It’s was DELICIOUS! It almost made up for the chai. The loaf and chai together was a good pair. I would not have enjoyed the chai alone. The loaf was moist, spiced and perfectly sweetened, and had pumpkin seeds baked in. The employees are patient, friendly and very thorough. The environment is warm and comforting. There are 2 long tables so you will always sit with someone else. If you prefer your own space, there’s no space for that here. If the chai was a little sweeter and warmer I probably would have given Grumpy cafe a 5 star review. But again, I don’t drink coffee so my review may not be relevant to most readers. Enjoy!
The best coffee place in all of NYC. Their regular coffee is amazing. The staff are professionals. I loved this location in midtown because the coffee options are immense but lack quality. The standard of grumpy coffee is very high. I also love their honey oat latte. Super delicious. I believe the Japanese rate Grumpy coffee as some of the best in world and I agree. There is a decent amount of seating here and a bathroom. The wait can be a little on the long side if its very busy so just know you may have to wait during peak times but its worth it for amazing coffee.
Café Grumpy on 39th Street is probably one of my favorite coffee shops around NYC. I used to live nearby around Bryant Park, and having Grumpy as an option was really great. The space itself is really cool, spacious and stylish – great for sitting with your friend over a cup of coffee. The coffee itself is Good+ and the cookies are awesome (especially the vegan chocolate chip cookies). Some tips:1. There is no WiFi or power sockets if I remember correctly, meaning dont plan on working online there.2. If they have the vegan chocolate chip cookies - dont hesistate!
Very retro chic coffee shop with long tables and benches. Its very inviting and the coffee is good as well. I would recommend this for catching up with friends or for a quick meeting with a client.
One of my favorite coffee spots in Midtown. I especially love their seasonal flavors like the Honey Oat Milk Latte! Cozy place, nice people, amazing coffee
Stopped in for a cold brew and hot coffee ($9 total) and loved it. Cool place to hang out. The guy working behind the counter was very nice, too.
Good coffee, standard variety of drinks and pastries for an artisinal shop. Ive been in here a number of times and found the staff to be especially friendly and relaxed. The space is small, but there are always people working at laptops or reading. Super super strong espresso!
Café Grumpy may have risen to fame from Girls, but the great coffee there stands on its own. The space is fairly large for a small specialty shop, and you can actually stand and wait for a drink without truly being in anyones way which is unique for specialty cafes in the area. Technically representing Brooklyn, its a great representation of a flavor forward brew that doesnt skimp on the frothed milk, giving it almost a sweet flavor. I definitely wasnt grumpy after a double shot after a long bus ride.
Cozy, small place just enough for some quick bite or breakfast. They served one of the best coffee in the area, their cakes are the best too! Superb team! Good work!
I arrived in New York expecting decent coffee, but unfortunately I was met with places like Starbucks that I really thought--that based on their popularity--would be good. But they are really not. I started to spiral into despair thinking that it was all a lie and New York had no good coffee. Enter Cafe grumpy. They win. Bloody marvelous coffee. They saved the day!
Coffee is always fresh. for the summer I like their cold brew.
Not enough seats. The coffee - Ive had better cups. Maybe because we know what a good cup of coffee taste like.
Best coffee in NY! They have different seasonal coffees. Try the 🌹 rosebud latte for fun, really floral taste. Some gluten free cakes as well. The lemon cake with glace is good.
Great location but there are definitely better quality coffee spots for the pricing.
As of May 5th 2019 they have a seasonal Orange Mocha thats just calming. Usually fruity combo drinks are kinda overpowered or dont taste quite right but this one is perfect. The orange is subtle, noticeable, but not overpowering.
Super cute cafe close to Midtown/Times Square. Definitely had the best artisan coffee in the area individually prepared. There are pops of orange everywhere to make this spot feel unique. I love the orange espresso machine, too! Try the Flat White if you want more than a Macchiato but less than a Latte. Its a nice in-between!
Convenient Midtown location, the staff here moves quickly on weekdays to accommodate those on their way to work. The coffee is great. No laptop use allowed here, but they have large communal tables so its a great place to meet friends. They have rotating art installations featuring local artists. They now carry Sans gluten-free baked goods, the brownie and the banana bread are delicious!
A great pace for coffee in NY. Great service. Kevin remembered our orders after the first time we were there. Highly recommend
Cute place with pastries and coffee. The coffee is kind of expensive in comparison - $5 for a regular sized decaf black, $4.50 for a regular cappacino. The staff is nice. It gets pretty busy throughout the day and you gotta wait for seating to become available. The vibe is nice though.
Coffee is good, but not top. Staff seamed friendly and the location is great. Came here in the morning 8am and it wasnt packed or anything and they serve coffee with extreme latte art. Will give a go to other parts of the chain around. $4/£3 for flat white is pricey but hey, they are on top of the Google search when looking for hipster coffee in NYC.
Cute cafe with excellent blends of coffee from all over Latin America. Great place to escape the hustle and bustle of Times Square. Not a huge range of pastries but they do have one gluten free cake (that is super yummy).
Good coffee shop, excellent espresso. Very smooth finish and moderate taste. The coffee was strong but not bitter as well. Overall great place, but very little seating, hence the reason for the 4-star review. Would definitely recommend.
Quick service, pleasant guy taking the orders and making the coffee. Had the Americano, nice fruity flavor. Love the logo!
A great little coffee shop with yummy coffee and a few seats inside. They also have really good decaf espresso which can be hard to find.
Coffee is good there, and i personally come there mostly for these vegan raw sweets they have!
I really enjoy their cold Brew and drip. They have a great selection of baked goods and the staff is pretty on top of it. Ive been coming here for over three years now and have yet gotten my name spelled wrong on a coffee cup or received the wrong order.
Had a good iced van latte. Cant go wrong really.
This place was great. The barista was hilarious. Its small, quaint, and the coffee is fantastic. Ill be stopping by on my next trip to the city.
Great coffee, good guys and simpleness. Love it!
Once of the best espresso and cappuccino I have had in New York. A bit expensive but its worth it. The decor is nice, great for a quick breakfast. Also the croissants are good and fresh.Overall, a great experience.
Wonderful coffee +...great friendly staff...cool customers that you can sit and chat with!
This is an excellent cafe. Unfortunately, the doctor wouldnt let me get the Botox injections in the bathroom. But there was a bathroom and it was clean.
Great specialty coffees. Look no further for that elusive flat white. Very pleasant cafe with great music and comfortable feel. Not much seating space though. Laptops discouraged though, presumably to keep customers from taking too long in their very limited seating.
Really good espresso drinks, they are absolutely amazing with oat milk!
Got a pour-over. Low quality coffee, poorly roasted. Target market is people who dont mind paying a lot but cant tell the difference between good coffee and low-end stuff. Barista knew nothing about coffee (always a bad sign). I asked him about the two pour-overs (to choose between them) and all he could say was all our coffee is roasted medium. Dont be fooled; this is just overpriced garbage.
Ahhh love this place! Whenever Im in the area I love to stop in for a latté. I love the decor and the atmosphere. The baristas are friendly and really helpful when wanting a recommendation for something new. I love being able to sit outside and people watch haha. Overall great place and I would recommend visiting if you havent already.
Latte was great! Atmosphere was nice, was able to get some work done and met some great people.
Very cute location and kind, helpful staff, but I wished I went to DD or Starbucks for the coffee.
Nice and fast service. Very good coffee!
Café Grumpy was overall a pleasurable experience. It has a warm, cozy vibe and a minimalistic, yet home-y aesthetic. The service is quick, and there is plenty of available seating that offers abundant opportunity for people-watching out the window. It offers a good atmosphere for intimate conversations with friends, or if you’re a loner - a quiet place to muse, read, and enjoy a cup of coffee. I ordered a chai latte and sea salt chocolate chip cookie. Both were good, though not outstanding, and the chai latte I found to be lacking in some flavor. However, I would recommend this place; you will not leave it feeling grumpy.
Come here all the time to drink my daily energy boost. Baristas here are extremely polite and coffee taste amazing grace.
The flat white was really good. I like to search around for coffee shops that use good roasted beans and Cafe Grumpy did not disappoint. I also had a Coconut Macaroon Cookie Sandwich with chocolate filling - it was amazing!
Highest quality roasted locally. Excellent service.
Best coffee Ive found on my holiday in NYC. Owner is apparently an Aussie which means good coffee standards. Well made but a tad on the expensive side. Also I love the logo, good for a laugh in the morning.
Delicious maple spice latte and crazy good playlist.
The cookie butter latte was out of this world, top 5 coffee beverage I’ve ever had!
Crowded but ultimately good. Nice btw office and happy hour vibe. I got the la Esperanza pour over and the lemon bunt cake. Bunt was not so great a little stale for the price. Coffee was so so. Chocolaty but seemed like a few grounds got through so have it a sludgy feel. It seems a little too hip for this area.
Good coffee but the no laptops is just a naked move to keep the asses moving out the door as fast as possible. I make better coffee at home, I go to cafes to study, ON MY LAPTOP.
Delicious coffee and the young lady at the counter (Mel) was an absolute sweetheart! The music selection was also very enjoyable.
Its a nice Cafe. The quality of their hot drinks is above average but the barista is so cool. Thank you.
Relaxed setting, good coffee, pastries and single origin coffees to taste
Calm, relaxed, open space with absolutely fantastic coffee. I had an iced cold brew and wished I hadnt added any cream, it was so good. Two large communal tables, not much in the way of outlets. Now we want to go on the 7-Grumpy Quest!
They are up there on the list of the best espresso in the city. A decent choice of pastries to choose from as well (lots of vegan and gluten free treats).
Thanks again for the great service and the rest of color and the kids will be there in a minute or two weeks and I have to be in the office tomorrow morning to see if I have the right email the shop and get it done before
Very acidic coffee, so if thats your thing, super nice people and really cool space
Tried the Tahitian vanilla latte and OMG. Incredible. The vibe is a bit hipster, it was loud and they certainly discourage sitting there working all day.
A decent cup of pour over - not the best Ive had, and a bit slow even for being the only one served. but decently priced for what I ordered and the bean quality. Atmosphere was fun
One of the better espresso drinks I had in NYC.
Great coffee here. Small place, very busy. Can use a bigger area for sugar, milk etc. Prices are a little high but coffee is quality.
I go there every morning for my cappuccino monday to Friday best place to grab a coffee
