I used to love ABC Carpet & Home -- great to visit, great customer service, great products. But all that changed in the last few years. And clearly their recent bankruptcy filing is unhappy proof that they were not able to pivot to an online covid-centric world, either in maintaining their client base or in providing strong customer service. And its a shame, because their things truly are beautiful and often unique (often overpriced, but beautiful and unique). It would have been easy to make some simple customer service fixes -- correct wait and/or delivery times on items on the website, working to get correct information from vendors, more transparency when there are issues (and there were indeed issues).Hopefully ABC Capet & Home will land on its feet. Because they used to be a great store. Maybe they will be again.
Just a terrible experience from a well-loved store. I ordered a floor model couch specifically because I could cancel the order before delivery. The salesperson and I went over this no fewer than three times. The couch ETA was seven months out. I ordered it in August and am trying to cancel it now. It is not expected until February. A customer service manager is telling me though email she cannot cancel the order -- that the ABC bankruptcy order prohibits it. The phone number on the website wont ring through. The email gives no information on how to reach the person who refuses to cancel the order. Ill dispute the charge through American Express, but really ABC? Shame on you.
Note to all readers: ABC Carpet & Home has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. If you paid in full for a custom order, you are a creditor that may never receive your order.Placed an order on 5/11 for a custom sectional from Larry McQuade. We were supposed to receive the couch this month, but haven’t heard a peep from ABC. All phone lines have been disconnected.
Always love coming in this store. Substantially downsized during the pandemic. Came to purchase a rug and they had very limited selection compared to when they had the rug shop in the building across the street. We were told most of it was relocated to Industry City in Brooklyn.
Do NOT order furniture from ABC. However beautiful the sofa I chose was, it has not been worth the aggravation and constantly delayed shipping. I have been waiting 9 months, and now updated to 10 months when I inquired by email for the latest ETA. We spent thousands of dollars on this sofa. Terrible customer service as we only get form letters briefly apologizing for supply chain problems.
A NYC institution. Unique things from all over the world. Great to just browse as well.
Sadly, every bad review rings very true. I have had the same experience as others with my furniture being delayed months without any update or communication on the matter. Once it did arrive, RYDER was very rude, refused to move the furniture into the living room, leaving it for my husband and I to maneuver. They also damaged 2 walls in our apartment building hall. Mind you, we paid for white glove service. After endless emails with ABC the issue is still not resolved. While the store is beautiful, I would not recommend shopping here due to the terrible service.
A nightmare from the beginning and it continues! I went in and told salesman Larry McQuade I wanted a custom sofa and that I had cats. Not only did it take over six months for me to receive my sofa, and not only was the customer service experience horrendous, I am now being told by every professional upholstery cleaner that I have had come inspect my sofa that it is also impossible to clean. So now I’m stuck with a $4000 custom sofa with cat saliva stains because apparently this material is not good for people with pets. I really wish the sales people in this ridiculous store would have the knowledge and understanding to tell people what materials would or would not work for their lifestyle. This organization is an absolute disgrace.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND A VISIT. A gorgeous curated collection of highly feminine clothing, exotic jewelry, and sumptuous gifts and home decor.Quite pricey but extremely high quality and unusual products. Carries an extensive collection of local hand-made jewelry and designer bedding brands.Allow yourself at least an hour to browse the store and you can grab a bite at their ABC Cafe as well.
Facist establishment run by no other then jean george himself mandating vaccines from nyc and beyond. Jean george should be shamed and im here doing it
Its a wonderful place. I even purchased a couple of nice items.
My husband and I bought a gorgeous wool Berber Morracan rug today from Fiona Reid and our experience could not have been better. We have been customers of ABC for years, and were reminded today that they are the best in the home business, have great taste and eye for unique designs and qualities, and a local family neighborhood store all wrapped in one. Fiona and all the staff were kind and knowledgable and made purchasing the rug a very special part of owning it. Thanks Fiona!
I love furniture shopping, and this is a great place to do it. Big store, cute stuff. Next time I need something, I will definitely be coming back.
Lots of expensive randomness ; some of it way overpriced comparatively ; its affordable for the Wealthy ladies with strollers in tow; talking about how they left their dog with the Hamptons housekeeper this week
The most sophisticated selection and the best customer service.
I was searching for seagrass carpet for my work and the staff was super friendly and tried to find it with me. He was patient and helpful. They didnt have it anymore but he still gave me his card in case I wanted anything else.
I purchase what I thought was a beautiful overdyed carpet for several thousand dollars from ABC carpet. Within a few years, without any cleaning other than vacuuming, it has lost all of its color and has frayed at the edges. I have a home full of fine art and fine furniture and expected a similar quality from ABC carpet. Unfortunately, they were non-responsive when I went to them to find a solution. Neither the product or the service live up to their reputation or price levels. I am really dissatisfied with ABC....... FOLLOWUP TO ABOVE REVIEW....After ABC wrote their response here (below) I reached out to them by email as they requested. WELL, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED MY EMAIL AND SAID SOMEONE WOULD GET BACK TO ME... NOPE. NADA.------- FURTHER REVIEW AND FINAL ACTION ------I RECEIVED A CALL FROM PAUL SHARMA WHO RUNS THE RUG DEPARTMENTHe could not have possibly been nicer or more helpful. He told me that these rugs do fade over time and that most people like that. I explained that nobody had told me that and I purchased the rug to look as it was and not to become old and tire looking. Paul offered to have it re-dyed for me or to provide a discount on a different rug. He could not have been more thoughtful or accommodating.Paul, single handedly renewed my faith in ABC as caring about their customers.
ABC buyers have such fresh eyes. As an interior designer I really appreciate walking through the store on my way to lunch. While you are there have lunch in the famous ABC kitchen. The food is just as delicious as it is beuatiful!
Top of the line products!
****BEWARE**** I have never in my life given a bad review. That is how bad my experience with this company has been. They will bait you by making it seem like they have a number of their couches in stock. I even asked if they could just let me know which of their couches are actually in stock so maybe i could choose from those and they could not tell me a single one. Which is funny because all over their website it shows a numerous of options they have in stock. Their game is to get you to buy something and act like it will be delivered in 2 weeks. Once that time goes by and you start to reach out to find out what is going on, you will spend another few weeks trying to get ahold of someone. Then they will send you an email saying that it should be delivered soon. Only to follow up with another email saying hmm, i dug a little deeper and found that that item is not actually in stock. Your delivery is actually scheduled in 3-4 months from now. This is exactly what happened to me and from what i have read, is a very similar experience for many other people. Dont be fooled by their beautiful furniture. Unless you are willing to wait a year to get it, it is not worth the time and stress.ABC, you need to stop playing this game. Update your website and stop baiting people into giving you money for items you dont actually have in stock. And update your customer service phone line. You cant lean on the pandemic forever. Do better.
Terrible service. Ordered a specific sofa because we were informed it was in stock and expected it to be delivered within a few months. When the expected delivery date passed, we had to reach out several times and were repeatedly misinformed that the couch would be in the following week or so. Upon following up for a third time, and speaking to a different representative than the individual who sold us the sofa, we discovered the couch won’t be delivered for another 3 months. Then upon being sent over to customer service, they informed us they can’t check inventory or invoices because their system has been down all week and they don’t expect it to be fixed anytime soon. Extremely disappointed in this deceitful and lackluster business.Update: The three additional months have now passed and after multiple attempts to get in touch with anyone from customer service this week (we left several voicemails, none of which were returned and we had to keep calling), we have to now wait another month for the couch to possibly(?) be delivered to their warehouse. Who knows when it will actually be delivered to our home. This has been an absolutely ridiculous and disappointing experience and I will never recommend making a purchase from this store. Good luck receiving your purchase. It’s been 5 months and I’m still waiting.
Good luck getting anyone to call you back after spending thousands on custom furniture. No reply to calls or emails after 5 months of waiting for my sofa. Larry McQuade is the sales person I was dealing with. I’ll never buy another thing from this horrible company again.
Unique shopping experience, they always have what you didnt know you needed
I am a frequent customer - well... was. I made a purchase if a desk lamp. 1 shipped and the other I cannot get updates on and no one to call me back . Have called the store several times and no one picks up. Left emails and called several times to the customer service team. No phone call returns .
Whats not to love? Oh, wait, maybe the prices. Beautiful store.
Eh. I agree with many of the other reviewers who have a problem with the vulgar prices. Seriously- 30k for a chunk of quartz? That won’t make anyone feel good. Buy something just as pretty for a tenth of the price and give the rest to a couple of families in need- if you are decent, you’ll feel a lot better about yourself.
I almost DIED here..... each level was better than the last.... Maybe one day I can buy something 😂
Product is great but service at this store is awful. The manager, Jianli, is absolutely useless. She ignores emails, provides no help to customers when there is an issue. She really made my experience terrible. They could not get my couch delivered on time or find it and made me run around like crazy between them and their awful delivery service, Ryder. I asked for store credit in exchange for the headache and no response. The couch was finally delivered and the awful service could not get it in the elevator even though it actually could have fit. I would never buy a big piece from the main store again. However, the outlet is amazing!! Mary is wonderful and should run the whole company. She understands true customer service. Go see her in BK!
Beware! Gorgeous things but the worst customer service I’ve ever faced. I ordered a good amount of product online. Shelves arrived missing glass or broken. Or orders would never ship at all. Getting anyone to respond in less than a month required emailing them daily and hoping to get someone’s attention. The company they use for delivery are equally terrible, dropping massively heavy items off in the middle of the street. ABC is very slow at remedy, if any. Plan to spend my very hard earned dollars elsewhere. Terrible experience. Shop elsewhere.
This ABC Carpet & Home location is pretty well stocked. I live near the ABC Carpet & Home in Duarte and ultimately stopped going because they dont have a good selection. A friend of mine told me to come to the one in Pasadena and I was not disappointed.
Horrible service, my online order was never delivered, customer service never responded AT ALL to five follow up emails & calls. Seems like another NY staple turned to trash and just sliding by on past reputation. Id highly suggest not wasting your time and risking your money here.Order nr: 8227-6803-57558
Excellent store, i mean as soon you walkThrough the doors you get this sort of aRelaxed Feeling go right through you! Yes siryI am right at home everytime I visit ABC Home.
So many pretty things but the customer service sucksit takes forever to get a response by email
The best carpet store in the world as my daughter would say. Great customer service by Natela Anashvili. Love this store!
People who say you can get it online instead is the very reason stores like this and many others get sold or go out of business. NYC was once a city you could find all kinds of unique items, where different neighborhoods had their own identity and shops, and the internet (and high rents-greedy landlords) have taken it all away. Yes times change, but some people still prefer to go to a store and be hands on with the things they want to purchase. There are no toy stores anymore, there are no shoe stores like before, hardware stores are closing, etc. ABC store is one of the last magical places in the city that has lasted and many of us dont want to see it go. Support them and other businesses you want to see stay open in your city. If it is your city but you buy everything online, youre not a new yorker.
Wow!! I love the store. Super cool and original
Even though we left without buying, 5 ⭐️ to the staff for leading through allllll those carpets.
My place. Love it
The place is beautiful and has some amazing finds. Unfortunately things are very expensive and you can get similar or even exact same things in other places for cheaper prices. They used to have a nice selection of gourmet food which seems to have been scaled down. I really did wish items here were cheaper but at least it’s always fun to walk around. Around Christmas they have pictures with Santa and the lines are quite long!!!
Enchanting, spectacular, destination shopping! Whether you can afford it or not, ABC is must see for its unique design and one of a kind items! I shop ABC every time I visit NYC. Its so beautiful.
ABC is dedicated to their Brand, they don’t waiver. They are different, mystical, spiritual, environmentally conscious, on trend and creative thru and thru. I was so excited to visit them at their brick and mortar location, after following them for over 20 years mostly on line and thru word of mouth. My mother, daughter and I all went shopping at ABC together on my 60th birthday. All three of us are designers, and ABC got all of our creative juices flowing!
Always find something unique here. The furniture, finishes and accessories are so one-of-a-kind.The rug/carpet level is comprehensive and if you’re in the market you’re sure to find something special, unique and a perfect match. We can spend hours here discovering and being inspired (and spending a few dollars).
The one and only
Four stars because I love this place but four stars only because they need to remember they live in New York City and this, should stay open later. You’d laugh to see how many people walk by after seven and say “ oh man it’s closed!? “ money left on the table, abc!
So overpriced its criminal. Should have a sign outside saying millionaires only
Housed in one of those beautifully ornate buildings that is slowly falling apart (is there a better look than glam in decay?) this as an upscale market for makeup, jewelry, housewares and gifts. Price point skews higher but you also see a rise in quality, and presentation. Mostly vintage ornate products with a dash of modern and color to spice things up. Great for a weekend stroll, theres a restaurant below (no food otherwise) or a holiday gift excursion. Upstairs find the eponymous rugs (the kind that cost the equivalent of a down payment or a new car), stunning lighting and designer furniture. ( a mix of modern and mid-century, what else?) In any other city this would place would be listed in guidebooks, in New York, its just another great shopping destination. Part of that I think is because its situated in that odd, but rapidly getting a distinct character, space between the flat iron district and union square. Absolutely worth the short walk down or up.
I just love this store! It’s chock full of beautiful and eclectic jewelry, clothes, dish-ware, furniture, and Buddha statues and references of all sizes and shapes. Usually I am forced to be just a browser though. The absolutely stunning black silk vintage style floor length dress that caught my eye was a mere $4900. Okay, maybe when I win the lottery.
Cool store to explore even if you’re not particularly looking for new furniture or carpet. Feels a bit like a hipster and new aged department store.. they’ve got everything from jewellery and Christmas ornaments to clothing to couches. Also in an super convenient and easy to get to location.Looked like they were expanding to across the street when we stopped by.. will have to come back!
Great place to find your starter couch! They have a big selection with a lot of alternative color options. Theyre very straight forward and make the transaction easy and comfortable. Theyre not pushy as youre looking around but are always eager to answer your questions.
A magical place of beauty and inspiration. This is my favorite place to shop for items for the home and I love the jewelry and fashion too. And the restaurants on site are incredible— my favorite is ABCV and ABC Kitchen— making this a perfect destination for an afternoon or early evening. ABC is especially beautiful at Christmas time. Truly one of the most beautiful shopping spots in the world.
We went here to see the Santa, which was free and lovely but the store itself is ridiculously overpriced. I saw a small piece of wood with a piece of wire and a bead (some kind of decorative art) that cost $50! Dont waste your time of youre a bargain shopper. If you are looking for a low-key line without a reservation to see Santa Claus though, they are great.
Its still a great store since the building was sold and renovated - but ABC lost its magic. It now resembles any other store with pretty white walls and new blond hardwood floors. The chandeliers, lace and ruffle bedding, Indian and other ethnic accessories feel somehow out of place. The building lost its charm and uniqueness. Before it was a store of dreams, packed full of special things and peeling paint on walls, old columns, rustic charm, twinkle lights and fairy dust.It was pure MAGIC to walk into ABC (before the building sale and renovation).
Fine Jewelry Department NOT worth the $. It is taking over 8 weeks for a simple chain on a diamond necklace to be fixed. My boyfriend purchased a diamond necklace from here. The chain broke and I took it to the store to have it fixed. The woman told me it would take about a week because they had to send it back to the designer. No problem. I called the next week and was told that it could take 8 weeks to have it fixed and that it clearly says that on my receipt. I patiently explained what had happened and that if I had known that that I would never have dropped it off. About two weeks later i called every week and was told it would be ready the following week and that they would personally check on it and call me back. I have NEVER, NOT ONCE received a phone call back from anyone at that store. I stopped in a few times and the manager is also conveniently not there - and told her would call me. Michael, the manager, has NEVER, NOT ONCE called me. Every time I call or stop in I am treated as if I am an inconvenience. My boyfriend will NEVER purchase anything from them for me again.
We went in here because we like rocks and minerals and they were incorporating a whole range of beautiful mineral specimens to decorate the table and giftware they had on display. Id never seen such a nice use of minerals before. They did a fantastic job of it. The also had nice mineral specimens for sale at reasonable prices.
Beautiful wonderland of unique, upscale home foods from makers all over the world. Has a boho vibe. Great place to come if you’re visiting NYC and want a less touristy but still inspiring place to window shop. The basement level kitchen floor is pretty incredible!
Always a must visit when Im in NY. I gave it 3 stars this time because I was told they were doing renovations and pretty much only the first floor was open for shopping☹
Dont buy at ABC Carpet. They sold us a bill of goods, and subsequently refused to admit wrongdoing or take responsibility. We bought an antique rug in 2015 from Fiona Reid. We put it in our living room. Over the last year, we began to notice that there was clear wear down to the foundation in an obvious square of the rug (not in a highly trafficked area of the room). We realized that ABC had done something to cover that up. It wasnt visible when we bought it.We asked them to take a look at the issue. They collected the rug two months ago--and then nothing. They didnt get in touch; they didnt return calls. When I finally talked with Fiona, she and her boss refused to pay for a painting. (We werent asking for a real repair.) She refused to admit that there was an obvious patch of wear. She said that rugs get worn down in living rooms. Of course, we hadnt been told not to put it in our living room. And man people in my family had antique Chinese deco rugs that have lasted much longer than ours. Also, we dont entertain that much and dont wear shoes in the house.I just asked them to send it back to me today, unrepaired.I would seriously counsel not shopping at ABC Carpet.
A pretty uninspiring name but inside you will find a huge, dazzling, multi-level space for contemporary, Bohemian inspired home goods, furniture, gifts and interior design inspiration! The first floor has a cute little market with multiple vendors selling jewelry, childrens items, shirts, skirts, candles and more. This place is a treat for your senses. Love taking my out of town friends here!
Always loved venturing into this store through the years. High end quality goods.
Worst customer service I think Ive ever encountered. If anything goes wrong with the delivery, might as well just cancel the order and go somewhere else. There is no communication between the store, headquarters and the warehouses they use. Awful.
Always epic!
Beautiful store
Very fun and unique store. You can get some great ideas for home decoration here and at Restoration Hardware a block or two away, though most of the things are pretty expensive. Theres sales a couple times a year and theres an outlet in the Bronx where you can find things more reasonably priced, but always a fun place to wander through.
I was CONSTANTLY getting bombarded with emails advertising what the store itself called an “unprecedented” sale. Consolidation they claimed. Everything MUST Go they insisted. I leave work a few hours early to go and see if I can get in on the action. Not only was there a pathetic and meager selection, but I could hardly find anything discounted even above 40%. What a waste of time. True false advertising. This place is supposed to a NY institution. PATHETIC. There is nothing more infuriating then when people waste my time. It’s not even a matter of price. There was hardly anything worth looking at. Will never ever go back and I’ve been going there since the 90s...
I try and take any visitors I have in town to this store just because it’s so freakin cool . If you have any kind of merchandising or design background, you will appreciate the place even more . The displays are impeccable. It’s truly a unique shopping experience. Yes, the prices are insane, but it’s fun to think about that there are actually people in this world that walk in and spend several grand. They wouldn’t still be open if there weren’t ! Go check it out and be prepared to say “wow”
Beautiful place but the prices are sky rocketed, I dont know two things, #1 how people can afford those prices (area carpet for $275.000.00). #2 why would anyone spend so much money on simple household products ($400.00 for a 6 plate).
This is a wonderful store! It has unique & fun merchandise! I love coming to this shop! The staff are friendly and helpful!!!
A good place to get ideas for home furniture and decorations. They have everything from modern couches, dining room sets and unique art pieces to lamps, candle holders, and chairs made of a tree root. While roaming around 5-6 floors full of furniture and art pieces, you can certainly find something youll love if money is not a question. There are also some pieces that are reasonably priced but youll have to search for them. Either way, this is a beautiful place to wander around on Saturday afternoon and think about what youll buy when you are rich!
Always incredible window displays. Varied items ranging from Buddhist statuary, aesthetic home decor, and helpful friendly atmosphere. Even if you are not buying great place to look about.
Theres really not much to say that hasnt already been said: best pricing and great service. If you want to shop around, please do so. The only thing youre wasting is time and gas.
A must stop for anyone trend forecasting and interested in seeing the artisan wares in a thoughtfully curated and every changing setting. Many expensive breakables and fragile items, especially on the first floor, so you might want to make the trip without the kids. If you love chandeliers, youll get your fix!
Some unique items and these are the only things worth buying. that said, we have bought several decorative plus jewelry items and were very pleased. service is very good unless the store is crowded. displays are excellent.
Fantastic selection of unique and beautiful items. If prices are not an issue its the place for you. I give it a high rating because of the specialness of what is sold there and the very, very friendly staff.
Went with John Mulaney on Comedians In Cars to ABC Rugs & Home. Dont know what and Home means. Don’t confuse them with ABC Drugs or ABC Mugs & Home. They are not them. Great rug designs. Almost bought a fully tattooed man by mistake. Wonderful selection, fabulous service, huge inventory. That’s ABC Rugs! Don’t confuse them with ABC Toupees. Rugs so pretty you hate to walk on them. So don’t. Great floor show. Good place for people lurking. Always seems to be a person coming around quickly, behind a post, just showing up. Huge Magic Carpet discounts. Rugs on the wall. Rugs on the floor. So close to a Seals & Croft song. 5 stars for the lurking.
Love this place. The restaurants are great and the decor and selection is incredible. If they had a hotel I would happily stay there!
I attended an event here. The atmosphere is relaxed and exclusive at the same time. The store is somewhat eclectic and new agey in a sense. Rhe place is great for one who appreciates many cultures.
This is one of the worlds best housewares stores!!!!! I love it💛💛💛🧘🏾♀️⭐😉
Terrible to work with. Their website is barely functional and their return policy is abysmal. I would not order from them unless you 100% know you want to keep your items.
Great place to buy crystals
I just went to the most amazing event here. They fed us the most awesome food. The store is definitely worth checking out if you havent been. They treated us like royalty.
