Really affordable products but be selective with the meats. I saw many grayed out meats or meats beginning to gray. I would recommend the store consider investing more into better refrigeration.

Good prices, but feels dirty and I often find that items have expired. Today, for example, every container of Cole slaw was expired by 3 days. In addition, the ice cream was almost completely melted. One patron shopped, waited in line and checked out with no mask and no one said anything.

Ive loved this store since they put it in. The employees are freindly most of the time. I DID4 have an issue a couple of months ago when some employees were not only NOT wearing masks, but they were singing or talking loudly on their phones. And some of the csshiers wwearing theiere notar masks properly. Also, customers were being let in with no masks. When I pointed this out to the management they shrugged it off. This has visto seemed to resolved itself of late. All in all, thougj, they have a great selection, great variety, and are reaonably priced!I HAVE heard rumors that this location will be closing at the end of August December! I dont know WHAT the neighborhood is going to do without them! Thisbhas been our go-to place since its inception! I am a low-income senior, and I depend on this store to save money. Im on a fixed income. I know that there are many others in this neighborhood just like me.I wish that WB would reconsider the closing.

Summary: Great store for ethnicities that eat more than the 3 land animals and single digit spices allotted to typical American cuisine. You have a shot at finding it here, but it is a bit less updated than other grocery stores.I personally love Western Beef and was excited to see that for Covid they have modified a few things to brighten and improve the cleanliness. This store might not be for everyone.Pricing: If you still get sticker shock from how this city tries to make you pay $15 for a frozen cheese only pizza then this is your spot.Inventory: Similarly, if you are of a culture that doesnt keep your animal eating to only chicken, beef, and pork OR you understand that the entire animal is a possible source of protein that can be made into dinner than this is DEF your store. When I cant get to Chinatown, I come here and I get similar pricing. I also like that they have normal pricing on all the processed foods that grew up with. Dont get me wrong. I know how to cook. But seriously... some of that boxed food is awesome tasting. It sells for a reason. ALSO, if youre Latina or Carribean you can get the thing you need. Not the luxury brand sold in Wholefoods that somehow doesnt taste as good but I have to pay double because it is organic. The actual thing... including things like Sorrel or whatever herbs you know they are going to only have some crazy marked up version of in the Wholefoods. Oh, and you can get very large quantities of meat here. Like, if you are throwing a party because you somehow have a huge NYC apartment.... you can get a whole slab of beef, a whole ham, etc... Oh... and if you have visitors that only speak Spanish, this store is super bi-lingual.Who wont like it?: This store is tough if you are really picky about cleanliness and particular about packaging. You do have to check expiration dates. I think what happens is that there is just too much inventory for staff to be able to see it properly. I always see people working very hard there to clean and re-stack, so I cant even understand why that is.The Store vs. Online: I tried the online Instacart version. It almost seems like its totally different inventory. I would just go check them out in person.Covid Notes: There is a single line for all the registers and they call your name. Not everyone is as cautious in making sure you are 6 feet apart. Thats true in all the stores, but Western Beef is slightly tighter with inventory. I went middle of day and it was busy, but the line does move.I really hope it continues to thrive in the neighborhood.

Lucky to have this close by in a city basically without subirban-style grocery stores. Take advantage of what its good for: grocery staples such as canned goods, baking goods, pasta, etc. Produce appears to be irregulars in that much of it looks like it was rejected by regular supermarkets. Meat and poultry are OK for everyday, but for the special occasion, go to Whole Foods.

I have attended this Western Beef time and time again and the issues are the same. The circular advertised chicken as a sale price then when I went to the store, I was told that as it would scan it would ring up automatically it would deduct price per pound. It did not. The turkey was on sale and was not available and told that they never sell the turkey that was advertised. Fruits advertised in circular and with signs in section ALSO rang up more expensive. Spent $74.96 in which $8 were overcharged and didnt come home with some of my items. Not the first time. If you shop here be prepared to argue for what THEY advertise.

Well, Im giving them a 3 because they finally have a few (and I mean a few) folks there who sometimes act like there is such a thing as customer service. I think part of the problem is most of them neither speak, nor have any interest in speaking, English. They just dismiss you instead. Then, after you finally track down a manager...you wish you hadnt. But, that said, I still go because they carry somethings that I cant find at Whole Foods, TJ or Morton Williams which are the other groceries stores in my hood.P.S. Smell your meats if you buy any because trying to return is always a fight.

The closest thing to an upstate Supermarket in the city. It has everything in one place - quality meat, paper products, name brand AND generic options for dry products, sodas, etc. Western Beef is also the only decently priced meat Ive seen around. I recently shopped here and will be back. It is rare to get a large store on Manhattan with almost everything you need. In my visit the service was fast (only one person in front of me), quality of fruit and veg was very good, wide selection of staple food items and nothing out of date as another reviewer warned.Any complaints over layout or time to be served at the registers need to take a look at the competition Trader Joes, Wholefoods or Fairway spring to mind.Might be a question mark over the quality of the fresh meat & fish compared to other places. Dont know as did not buy any.

This is by far the worst supermarket Ive ever been to! And this is not based on 1 experience. Ive worked in the area for over 4 years and nothing has improved about the location. The workers do well to stock the place but thats all I can say about here. Cashiers are rude and lackadaisical. I get that they deal with a lot of issues daily, like older folks and customers from the projects area complaining about deals, coupons, returns, etc but every customer is treated without care. My deli experience was terrible today. Get to counter to hear customer complain that worker doesnt care and seems crazy. That he kept complaining how long the line kept getting. Like it was a problem that people wanted food/service. He was then trying to employ a man nearby who was moping up a big leak. He kept saying his job wasnt done but later he tells him he doesnt know how to work the machine. Fair enough. Not trained for it and its not his problem. But even he didnt seem up to any real task. Finally had to leave without anything. Most people dont trust deli food anyway. A friend of mine got very ill from their chicken. Cleanliness is a problem, produce options are limited, but not for Spanish items. I would question everything that comes from here thats not canned or boxed. Terrible. Oh and their managers are usually young people. No one stays working here and its packed and slow during rush times. This place needs to be reevaluated by the company. Disgusting.

I am nine months pregnant, waited on line in this store with my 19 month old baby for literally not less than half an hour, just to buy milk & eggs for the baby. When I gave my credit card to pay, as I have countless times previously in the same store, I was asked for ID for the first time ever, and because I didnt have ID on me (though my card IS signed on the back), they insisted on refunding the purchase and would not give me the items. I was actually in tears (pregnancy hormones + half hour on line), and people behind me were pretty outraged, too, but the cashier and manager showed no mercy. I appealed to their humanity-- nothing! Makes me sad to think what our world has come to, as I prepare to bring a new child into it :(

There has been times Ive bought meat, go home, and get the smell of rot. Speaking of smell, it has a linger of boom-bow or rotten mop. But they put effort and splash the fabuloso around.
