Not my 1st time here and absolutely not my last. Went in yesterday to pick up something special for my wifes birthday. They were able to give me a beautiful dry aged prime rib that was absolutely mouthwatering when prepared. They are always knowledgeable and always have the best quality meat.

I walk some distance out of my way to shop here. The meats and poultry are excellent in quality. I love the old guys that run the joint. I make a point of conversing with them if they aren’t too busy. They are very helpful and nice in that gruff, old NY-man who has seen it all way. Just really charming! As someone who cooks I appreciate that they custom grind my meatloaf mix for me - the perfect combination of veal, beef and pork. Around the holidays this is the best place in town to reserve and buy a proper turkey.

Awesome service oriented NYC butcher shop. Brings me back to my young days in Brooklyn when personal service was gladly provided and shop keepers new customers by name. It is now a 200 mile RT for me but it is worth it for their dry aged Porterhouse and Rib steaks as well as their loin lamb chops. By the way guys, I have not had anymore close calls with the Goose in Cooperstown 😋

My family purchased all of our meat products from the Ottomanelli Bros for more than a decade. They are amazing in their service and great quality meat. Also they are the friendliest people youll meet. I highly recommend stopping by and trying them out!

Its an old school Italian market with pretty fair prices, although certain things are bit high. Cant blame them though, New York City rent must be through the roof. They literally have anything you can think of and are very friendly.

If you can get there, go. You wont find better butchers or better meat anywhere.

One of their longest tenured employees is African American and he is a valuable member of the team. Boycott them, you boycott him.

Got 2 chickens for Thanksgiving quality was top notch as always. I used to come here many years ago, reason was the first time I step into the butcher they catered to me like I was important over the years they knew my kids and also help me when times was hard. When I walked in they treated me like family. Never tried to oversell me or sell me bad meat. They always gave me respect and quality for the price. where you get that consistently in New York city? Not really sure why the bad reviews...used to live across the street and Ottos was the place to go. You get top of the line, old school service and they have a ton of different types of meats - if you are thinking of anything exotic, they most likely will have it. Cant go wrong here.

What a great NYC institution. Had a dinner party over the holidays and wanted a very good piece of beef. Jerry O cut us a 5 1/2lb NY strip sirloin roast and gave us his recommendation on cooking time. The beef was as good as it gets. Everyone loved it. Thank you

Well, this sucks. I used to shop here fairly regularly, then left NY for a year. I was planning on going back tomorrow, but I am just now hearing about the “bad joke”. I cannot, in good consciousness, spend my money at a business where the owner would feel that giving a black man a noose was a good idea for a joke. It would take seeing him actually trying to do something in the black community to show that he has learned from this for me to change my mind. Until then, guess I need to find some other place to get my cowboy steaks and rabbits from.

I love this place. I wonder how many people spouting off about racism have actually been here. There’s a black guy and a Hispanic guy behind the counter. There are plenty of minority customers (like myself) who love this place. Don’t succumb to the easy consumption of fake news and armchair outrage-mongering, it’s bad for you. Just come here and buy yourself a very, very nice steak at a very good price.

One of the privileges of living in New York is being able to shop at Ottomanellis.Exceptional quality and service. Amazing things like smoked beef tongue, duck eggs, fresh rabbit. Freshly ground meat for burgers easily matches the best burgers you can get in some famous NYC establishments, at a fraction of the cost.

Excellent cuts of meat but (1) very expensive, and (2) you have to constantly watch the butcher to ensure that he removes all the fat from the meats that you ask him to remove. No other butchers in the West Village to choose from so Im stuck with these brothers.

My go to butcher when in town. They have the best cuts and always deliver.

A gem with 1920s vibe, you know coloreds treated differently and workers are given nooses. Theyre super helpful and offer to assist with using the nooses.

Ottomanellis is an old-style butcher. The guys are great and authentic, talk to Jerry if you want to experience the personality that was Greenwich Village before the invasion. The newbies and bridge-n-tunnel folks in the hood may prefer something else, but if you want butchers who know and care about the goods they serve ... and how theyre served ... this is the place to shop.Zitos is gone, as is Uminovs, but food, music, art and culture were the staples of the Village I grew up in. If you want a taste of that flavor, Ottomanellis is one of the last places you can still get it. Enjoy.

I knew something was amiss about this place the entire 15 minutes my friend and I were there and we now know that rancid smell wasnt raw meat but the acrid smell of stupidity and ignorance!Gross! After visiting a friend in Ft. Greene and watching the unsanitary way they handle the food (i.e., wiping your nose on the back of your glove), made me physically ill. Fortunately, she eventually decided to go elsewhere. Neither of us were going to eat their snot-laden lamb kabobs.

It doesnt matter what quality the meat is and it doesnt matter if other people of colour did not personally experience racism. The point is that any business that engages in this behaviour to ANYONE does not deserve to stay in business and should not be supported. BOOM!

I am a honest to god carnivore, always relishing a great steak or porkchop. Problem being, I was accustomed to shopping at my local supermarket and I had been hoodwinked into believing that supermarket meat was my only option....until I stumbled upon this NYC treasure. Any cut, any possible combination, any variety of meat that could be found was there. I was happier than a kid in a candy shop, a meat candy shop that is. The gentlemen behind the counter were amazingly kind and informative. One man in particular held my hand while explaining to me the benifits in buying a poussin instead of a cornish game hen. Where in the world can you find that kind of service? I am now a fan of Ottomanelli & Sons and I send as many of my fellow carnivores there as well. If you love quality meats, old school wisdom, and corteous service go there....you will be glad you did! :)
