Our group of 3 went in and had such a lovely conversation with Jim, the store owner. Its one of the longer standing business in West Village (30+ years) so Id highly recommend a visit. Jim has a great selection of books and as the name suggests, he would gladly put books written by wall st bankers donated to him in the true crime section of the store. Pictured is Alex, if I remember her name correctly, she is cute and feisty so Id suggest leave her be!

A beautiful gem hidden in one of the hearts of the city. Cannot believe we bumped into it late at night, and it was still open.Wonderful selection of books, we stopped at every other pile because this or that title would grab our attention. The prices are very low – and all the books are news. The atmosphere is very family-like, you can feel that for the person who owns the store, it is a true passion to seek great titles and being them to the store.Bought two books I’d wanted for a long time, both in marvellous editions. The place made our evening. Definitely worth a visit.

Mostly books by/about white men. Large selection of Woody Allen biographies. Not exactly unoppressive or non-imperialist. Giving 4 stars for the affordable prices and accommodating staff.

Books are incredibly cheap. But the best reason to go is because of John and James, who run the place. Excellent late-night conversation about all things nerdy

Nice selection of books from quite a few genres. (Also an adorable cat that loved to be watched and not touched)! I found a great book that I had never heard of in the fiction section for only $5.50, and its hardcover! I love to support small business, and the prices were definitely fair and theres definitely some great deals. Recently stated that the staff was a bit rude but the owner explained this and is obviously very passionate about books and his business. Definitely stop in to browse a bit, and you might find a gem you didnt know you needed! (They also have some popular YA fantasy and popular fiction if youre looking to delve into either). Thank you Jim for your help!

Books, music and good people. What more could anyone ask for a time spent in conversation and search for a great title. I spent a week in New York and Thank you for being so kind. Roger Browning, the author of The Reckoning of Rance. Now offered on Amazon.

A great adventure in someone’s idea of what qualifies. Very. The Hobbit, Shakespeare, and Africa Experience travel books alongside Chomsky and Taibbi. Dingy but the farthest thing from drab—which is sometimes ideal in bookstores.

Stumbled upon this place by pure chance during a week in NYC and were lucky enough to catch the open mic stand-up night, which was tiny, utterly hilarious, and the highlight of our trip. Staff are great and their book selection, including a rack of self-published comics, is diverse and interesting (plus all decently priced and inclusive of tax, which is refreshing).

Small store w/strong comics and graphic books section. There are some books you wouldnt see outside of Strand. Worth a visit if Youre in the Village.

Youd think that a local shop in a dying retail business would foster and promote superior customer service over the big online businesses (i.e. Amazon). One would be very wrong to make that assumption about this place - the rudeness and immaturity of staff is on another level. Highly suggest staying away from this establishment.

The man older gentleman sitting behind the counter was super aggressive, and rude. I came in to buy a book of poetry and he was watching me the entire time, was such an unkind person that I put the book down and eventually harassed me out of the store though I did nothing to inspire such ire. Dont usually leave reviews but if youre a lover of books and bookstores dont go here. It has left a sour taste in my mouth that someone could be so angry and unhappy around such beautiful obejects. Take your money and good mood elsewhere because its not worth giving them either.

A curated selection from the remainder and sale racks. Its a small store, but theyve picked relevant, worthwhile books in specific categories like travel, music, New York, drugs, politics, childrens books and more. Its not the remainder rack. Its all specifically chosen and all at a great price.
