Never gets old... This is my favorite comic book shop for a while now. A few years ago I brought my son for a treat and ever since it has become a huge treat to get there a few times a year. The selection of comic books, and books on Marvel characters is great! They also have very cool figures, and quite a bit of collectables.
Nice looking and organized store. Not overpriced either which is surprising.
Midtown Comics is a great place to get figures and comics in general, but Ive noticed that most locations are lacking stock in terms of figures (possibly due to the pandemic somehow). This location specifically, though small, does pack nearly every crevice with all kinds of books and merchandise and truly makes the most of its space. Youll likely spend a good while looking about, which I recommend since theres always something tucked in a cranny youll be interested in!
This place was great! Cool and open set-up, and staff was attentive, yet let you do your thing while shopping around. Turned a corner and once I saw their sign, impossible no to go in.
They have an amazing selection and the staff is super helpful! I felt nervous because I just got into comics and I know I was going to sound ignorant about things, but the staff member helped me out incredibly! This is definitely a nice safe space to get away from the every day life of New York and dive into an abyss of hero’s (or villains) !
Love this place and the people that work there.
The staff was very knowledgeable. They were very friendly as well. They had a lot of other cool items besides comics.
First time visiting this location today 8/25/2021, a little more welcoming and open to answering questions than the Grand Central location. Talked me through any and all questions from CGC to free comicbook day. Think Ill visit this location more often.
Awesomeness, I get pure nostalgia walking inside MC.Every visit I find something interesting to read.
Cleaner and more organized than another branch Ive been to (midtown). Staff is helpful and knowledgeable.
It was amazing! There was a lot of really cool stuff. I wish I had more time and money to spend.
I love this place, Ive been here before and the staff was great except today one of lady at the front was a bit rude, I didnt say anything to her because i didnt want to cause any distress. The way she spoke to me was unnecessary. APRIL 13, 2021
Great friendly knowledgeable staff, and stock, store and inventory are top notch too
Awesome comic store. And Im coming from NJ. Way better then the comic store in fair lawn nj.
I went for my son. It was a acceptable experience the employee was nice, I felt it was forced, I get these reactions at times...other than that...it was ok
Big variety of comic and collectible action figures
Very comprehensive comic book store. Nice staff and healthy selection of books magazines posters and clothing...
Not sure where to best post this, so going to post it at all their locations.I recently order some hardcover art books from Midtown Comics and received what I can only describe as the most well packed, well taken of shipment Ive ever received from a retailer. The books were packed securely within individual cardboard coverings and shipped in a larger-than-required box to ensure ample space for additional packaging cushion. Really blown away and appreciative of the care and effort taken here to ship these books out.Immensely satisfied with my experience and highly recommend Midtown Comics. Well done!
Great place if your looking for for something or your not sure what to get the will recommend whats good by asking you little questions like what you into
Great staff very helpful and always stocked with new books only thing I wish they cared better Silver, bronze and a few golden age books
Best place for comic or even action figures for the kid
Good selection of comics and collectible figures.
Midtown Comics Downtown is the One-Stop Shopping for all your Comics, Books, Games and Everything Comics
Best Midtown Comics location in all of NYC. The staff members are absolutely delightful!!!
My local LCS. Great shop, cool people working there.
Great store to shop in. Lots of everything for the geek in you.
My daughter loves manga. The cashier was very informative and pleasant.
Great overall experience:ComicsCollectablesStaffA+
Good place to explore
Great! The service was good and the store was very clean and neat. I would definitely recommend this for people who love comics and collectibles. I would 100% go here again.
Theres ONLY ONE NEGATIVE THING I have to say about this location & thats one of the clerks. Bearded guy behind the counter mostly on Sundays. He seems like he gets bothered when asked a question [which was regarding a comic book] and flatly says whatevers on the wall is all you get but the other sales associate overheard us and more calmly helped me with my question.Other than that, the place is nice, clean and a lot of selections. The sales associates on the floor always treat customers with kind and will assist in anyway possible. Just the one guy behind the counter.
They have the comics! Super friendly staff
Staff was friendly & helpful.
Friendly workers, great prices. Awesome selection of things to buy from all types of fandoms.
I love Midtown Comics. Great staff and a great selection
Great staff - friendly and knowledgeable. Decent back issue selection. All the new stuff. And t-shirts, toys, action figures, and other fun stuff. And some beautiful premium figures. A great place to stop off if youre down by Fulton Street and the Waterfront.
LOVE THIS STORE! LOVE this location and the staff is so knowledgeable and eager to help you find what your looking for!👍👍👍
Been going here for years, selection is fantastic. Almost never go in with a plan, always leave with a ton of stuff
Awesome comic book store with great friendly staff. The selection is always good here and they regularly have promotions and sales on back issues. It is a little smaller than their midtown locations (so a little less selection) but it is not as crowded and has more of a chill vibe. They have a rewards program which gets you $20 in credit for every $120 you spend, which is pretty decent.Very much recommended!
They were super polite on the phone. They even have an elevator. Got in got what I came for got out.
Great store. Bad location
Great place to shop for comics and action figures, whatever you need they got you covered.
Enjoyed 3 movies so far
Visited the store in January 2019 and this is a heaven for a comics fan. Lots and lots of books and other comics and movie related stuff. Comics ranging from Marvel to Disney Donald duck to Archie and the list is endless. You could spend hours here. Its not cheap but not expensive either. Loved the classic Donald Duck comics from my childhood and found some of them here and of course bought them on the spot. Helpful staff too.
Because its easy to get there by subway on fotuon street.
Not the best selection in the city but a friendly staff, never too crowded (nothing is these days but still) and being able to buy stuff online and pick up there is convenient.
My friend and I were helped a lot by the staff they were knowledgeable and provided a lot of assistance in the genre she was looking for(recommended Animosity, witchblade, Manhattan Project. We will definitely come back!
Great place! Perfect nerd heaven! I love star wars and Batman, this place didnt disappoint. Recommend visiting it! Super nice ladies working there as well!
Loved the employees, great service and a huge selection. Definitely plan on going more
Very nice selection and good prices. However, it appeared that the associate at the register wasnt comfortable answering questions. Ill still come here when Im in NYC but Ill be sure to not ask questions.
The statues are awesome. Lots of cool collectibles and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely check this place out!
A new must for comic fans!!!
This is my favorite place in the my universe. Midtown Comics brings joy to the child reader to the adult collector. The staff are wonderful. The events are unreal. They really cater to t he customer. That have a wealth of knowledge that they share freely. Theyre friendly, accommodating, and it puts a smile on my face every Wednesday when I go into the shop.
This place is chock-full. There are books everywhere, thousands and thousands of books. And the staff are quite helpful. And well read, but of course.Part of the charm that is Clement. Check it out and enjoy.
Awesome selection of comics, graphic novels, books and collectables. Really friendly and helpful staff that are fun to chat too and nerd-out with. Recommend a visit even to just look around.
This is a great place to get new comics. Every Wednesday, by 8am, a line of hard-core customers is ready to enter to buy that weeks new selection. For popular titles, they most likely will have them in stock. Their back issue is ok. Mainly recent issues. They do have wall comics but they tend to be pricey. Wait for the holiday sales...but dont wait too long...staff are friendly, the customers chatty...its organized, clean. A great place to pick up trades, action figures.
Their DC Comics subscription service is horrific, and that was before the pandemic when the odds of receiving an issue were about 50%. After reporting missing issues, they offer two unacceptable options - resend the issue which can take many weeks, meaning my new comic reading comes to a halt, or extend the subscription meaning I then have to buy the missing issue at full price from an LCS. Since DC started reshipping after Covid, I think I have received one issue. Even worse, you now have to wait up to 8 weeks before filing a claim. This is utterly and completely unacceptable. I know Covid makes the world difficult, but if you havent been able to figure it out in five months, then I have zero reason to believe you ever will.Final thought... If you look at other poor reviews for Midtown on Google, you will see that when the owner does bother to respond, they blame the submitter, tell them they are wrong, and offers no help to resolve the problem. This is the type of customer service you can expect from Midtown. Snide and rude.
They are willing to help you
I have been collecting comic books for many years and I have seen many comic book stores come and go. Midtown Comics has three locations in Manhattan with this store being the youngest of the three. All are unique and have their own personality which is very unusual. The other two are grander in their own way but this store is more personal and intimate. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable in many of the genres represented in the store. Even if you dont have an interest in many of the wonderful things to buy I highly recommend going to see this store if only to experience what has become one of the sightseeing jewels of this area so close to the South Street Seaport.
Love this downtown location they seem to carry it all and its less crowded
A huge variety of comics and action figures. Staff is friendly and the shelves are very organized. Its easy to find what you are looking for, alphabetical order and latest releases. It also has posters, shirts, keychains and gifts.Worth passing by and checking out.
Midtown Comics as a whole is not good. I am done using this place, as they desperately overcharge for things. They had a signing recently where they talked about donating $2 per issue of a comic sold to st. Judes Hospital for Children. The issue is, they werent actually donating any money. They charged the customers $2 extra per issue. They also didnt make proper arrangements for the artist doing the signing, necessitating everybody waiting outside in pouring rain for an extra 45 minutes with no movement. Definitely avoid. There are better comic shops available in United States that can get you your Comics. Zeus Comics in Dallas is one great example.
Like most Midtown Comics locations, Downtown is a clean modern shop, with an excellent variety of toys, new comics, back issues, posters, and other bips and bobs. The shop aesthetically lacks all the quirkiness and charm of smaller local shops, which often tend to have collectible gems that Midtown does not; as its tends to overfished by collectors.Their staff tends to be extremely knowledgeable and can be very friendly, and enjoys engaging customers in comic discussions and debate and all are well read in their choice of comic entertainment. They perform excellently for garnering minimum wage working 40 hours a week and in an extremely busy atmosphere. I was extra peturbed at how long Midtown attempted to stay open during COVID and how quick they were to open up and enforce mask rules.Midtown has their own customer benefits/loyalty program that has regularly declined over the years. What was originally 20 off every 100 spent in 2010 is now about 10 of 150.Midtowns best attribute is the character of their employees, something large corporations like midtown tend to overlook and end up losing some of the best people.
The male employees who work here are generally cool and upstanding, but the female employees usually carry themselves with a disinterested attitude or they come off as snobs. I dont know what their issue is, but I can assure these women none of them are exactly my type.Overall, the atmosphere is pretty calm and quiet, with a nice selection of comic books and graphic novels. But Ill be sure to order my comic books online for now on. Comic book joints are not as niche and welcoming as they used to be.
Great toy store to keep you occupied. Especially a 2 year old. I first went in to check it out and wanted to buy everything. The store is nicely layed out and had plenty to look at. I told my husband about it who ended up taking our kid there. The staff was nice enough to let him play with everything!
These guys got a great comic book selection and other awesome collectibles as well. And everything here is reasonably priced too.
Great place for over priced reading materials.
Nice shop and plenty of toys, statues, shirts, as well as Trek Eaglemoss ships for me
We can find many interesting books to read and all the stuff was good and affordable. The way they treat their customer was also nice. overall nice place to find great stuff
Great variety, comics for any and Susie assist on any budget. We were lucky enough to be there on Free comic book day and were ecstatic to get a packet of comics! Many collectibles there as well. if youre a huge comic book fan make sure to check out the super tour of New York City offered by On Location Tours, we did it and it was totally worth it!
I felt like a kid again when I walked up the stairs and saw all the awesome stuff in this place. Gives Forbidden Planet a run for their money. Ive workedin the area for years but never went in, but I will be going back often now that I have. Toys, accessories, manga, comics of course and lots more. A SUPER experience!
My favorite place to pick up comics... helpful staff
Great place to go to buy comics and sell your comics for a pretty good price. The variety of comics from comic strips to manga! The place is easy to navigate and the back with its giant rack of recent issues is nice. The place is a little dusty though. Other than that it is the best comic shop in the area!
Very good 🙏
Great place for awesome and rare comics. I got a signed copy of the first issue of Paper Girls!! Definitely going back.
This location is a favorite of mine. The team of employees here are welcoming and helpful. They have a good selection and will use the online website as a resource if needed. Thank you!
Great comics, terrible customer service. The young lady helping me both times was curt and indifferent. Instead of explaining the stores policy regarding returns and exchanges (which shouldve probably have been mentioned up front as I was clearly bringing product back into the store) she instead opted to help me try different combinations of products until I found what I liked. Only then informing me of the policy. When I expressed my frustration and confusion I was met with silence and no apology. I doubt Ill be back.
