Love this bike shop, they are fast, fair and honest. Im sorry that there are some bad reviews. Regarding attitude, a few people in the shop have a dry sense of humor but theyre very nice. And they work on electric bikes, which is hard to find in the city. Definitely recommend.
Well my experience is very good I told them what the problem was and they solved it 100% Im not sure why some of the people have complained about them but at least from my end everything worked out just got to let the guys do their work thats what I think anyways have a good one...Ps.Other bike shopsOverpriced me for $300 over or they did not know how to fix the problem
Martin and Wilson help you like no other. Attentive to the issues for any rider they listen to your concerns before attempting to determine the issues with your bike unlike some other places. Fair price for great service and you know they’ll tell it to you like it is, they’ll make sure you’re paying for the service you need, nothing less and nothing nothing more if it isn’t absolutely necessary. I recommend here over anywhere else
They are great. Whenever I need them, they fix my bike in one day. The service is excellent. If my bike needs any additional replacement, they contact me before doing it. Also, their cost is very fair. I am glad to have these guys taking care of my bike. No better place in NYC.
Best bike repair shop in town, always helps fix my bike swiftly! Very kind repair men. Highly recommend!! When you go, ask for MARTIN he’s the man with the master plan!
I went for a slight adjustment of the handlebars because it’s the closest bike shop to my apartment. The guy was rude and charged 5 dollars for a service any other shop would do for free. He didn’t even fix it all the way as the handlebars were left crooked, and when I asked for a readjustment he handed me the wrench to do it myself. Won’t be returning.
Locking up my bike to visit the bar next door to this establishment and midway through locking up someone comes out and asks if Im shopping at his store. I told him no and he told me I couldnt lock my bike up on the bike rack. I proceeded to lock my bike up on the pole next to the rack and watched the rack sit empty for the entire time I was eating next door. I would have considered browsing after dinner but not after this.
I’ve come to Spokesman on numerous occasions and they have always been helpful and nice. Would highly recommend!
Great place. If you go there ask for Martin -whenever I come he always maintenance the bike and have very good advises.
Good service. Fair prices. New tire installed and on my way ~10 minutes. Will be returning to them for my cycling needs.
Store near 60th and 2nd ave sold me a used Fuji as a new bike (6 days ago). I have used it only five times, and the wear it has on its frame and all around is obviously from a used bike. I questioned 2 days ago about switching it to another, more expensive model, and the clerk said that it wouldn’t be possible, stating that I had done all the scratches to the bike. I have used it only five times and have only gone through bike paths and/or Manhattan streets.I have a picture of the bike right when I took it off the store (and you can see the scratch of a used bike in the fork). I have also taken other photos today that proves it’s a used bike. I bought it without looking at it thoroughly because I have never imagined that this practice is being made. Furthermore, I was anxious to ride a good bike from a neat brand (had just arrived to the city after staying abroad). This is not justifiable, not even in the midst of a short bike supply all over the country. I feel disrespected and insulted.See pictures below.. Scratches all over. White print from Shimano is almost gone. Break levers are very worn. The weel from the bike’s chain has a small dent. I don’t know what the yellow liquid stain is (see picture were I hold a rag); it’s kind of disgusting and it won’t come off.. The picture of the bike on the sidewalk was taken the minute after I bought it.I would like someone to at least tell me the truth about what happened. And if it is the case, please apologize
I never write reviews, but the owner of this shop was very rude to me when I inquired about renting a bike for the day. He treated me with immediate suspicion, and asked to hold my license and credit card before he would even show me the rental bike (I was concerned it wouldnt be the correct size). Bad taste in my mouth. I would rather just give my money to CitiBike if this is how local shops are run.
My rear wheel setup was apparently wrong. They looked at the wheel, recommended a wider size rim tape, tube and tire to fix the issue. I liked that they gave me the choice for a basic tire or a performance one based on my riding style. Would buy there again.
Hello everyone, bad bike service. bad alignment of the wheel and said it was a pokrishka. the mechanic doesnt know what a chain tensioner is and how it works !!! very displeased !!! the mechanic repeatedly strikes the chain on the new frame, the attitude is cold! and for this change they took money, its ridiculous.
I was recommended to come here to fix my baby girl up. Brought her to the best, Martin, such a wonderful help! He was able to go thru everything with me, what my bike needed, the fees and took it from there! My bike was ready by the next day! I couldn’t be happier and more pleased with such experience. Not only did he fix my bike but when I went to pick her up he even went over and taught me some things about my gears! Def recommend for bring your bike here or for any of your bike needs! 😊
Good prices, customer service, and care 👍
Whether you’re a beginner or experienced cyclist, Spokesman is the place to go. I bought a bike from Martin about a month ago and he answered all of my questions, very patient. I came in today for a quick fix, he took care of it and asked me how my new job was going! I’m a forever customer. Thanks Martin!
These guys always help me right away, with kindness, speed, communication, and a fair price. Also, they sell Bianchis!
I came a 7:30 pm on a Saturday night with a flat tire. The gentleman told me that the job would take around 40 minutes and that he couldnt do it because they close at 8:00 pm. What? Seriously? Anyways, I called Electric bike shop 47 and told them what happened. They right way told that I can get my bike serviced at their store. Im so frustrated with this bike shop.Sunday, April 4th, 2021.I got another flat today and the mechanic was super helpful. He had all the right reasons to send me back. For one, I had a delivery backpack attached/ zipped tied to the rear of the bike and second, I forgot my keys to take out the battery. Regardless, he helped me out. He looked at me and noticed that I was in a bad spot and told me that he would fix it at an extra charge. Thanks to him, I can keep working tonight!Happy Easter Sunday!!!
They put on a wrong size tire on my front wheel and my back wheel blew out four blocks from the store upon leaving. Terrible service and attitude, the two Latin American worker who used to work there were really good, but the two heavy set guys there now are worthless.
I moved back to the neighborhood a few months back and have been using Spokesman primarily for my road bike needs, usually biking over 250 miles a week. While other stores will keep your bike in for days on end for the most minor fixes, the staff will return your bike quickly and the work having been done well. Their prices relative to other shops for work are less expensive. They get right to business and get the job done. With regards to covid, they have been responsible in only letting one person in at a time. They typically lock the front door so all that’s needed is a tap on the glass or a wave and they will open the shop for you.Highly recommended.
Martin is a very good salesman, he answered all my questions about my new bike. Martin and Mendez are a very good team. They were also very kind and effective.
Do yourself a favor and look for another place for bike services. Unprofessional and rude.
These guys go above and beyond for anyone that’s patient. I brought my bike it to have some pedals swaped. They essential gave me a tune up because they could tell there were little things not in spec. My bicycle feels lile a brand new bike. These guys are great and I wont go to another bike shop again!
They do not want business. On two visits the proprietor was rude, short and unhelpful. I was there at opening at 10 am to adjust brakes -- a 2 minute job. They opened on time but the guy mumbled something. I asked him to repeat and he mumbled again, went inside and locked the door, leaving me outside. Soon another guy came and the first guy let him in, but before that, the 2nd guy asked what I wanted and I explained. He said I would have to leave my bike for 3 hours. But no one was there and It was a 2-minute job. I went elsewhere. On my first visit I was told they do not service power bikes.
One of the best bike shops in NYC. Great guys, reasonably priced and fast repair service. I highly recommend Spokesman Cycles.
Good attention..the guy whos encharge of that place was friendly...l can recommend this cycles shop for anyone
The worst bicycle store ever. Customer service is terrible, and they’re always rushing you. Worst place to buy a bike. I would highly recommend to stay away from this store if you want to buy a bike.
Very rude on the phone. Do not recommend
Went in person for a repair!!! Very helpful!!! I wanted to ask when will you have se bikes big rippers 29
Excellent mechanics and very professional.Thank youMartin
Came off the bridge with popped rear tire on my own electric assist bike. Not only did they fix the tire promptly, but the motor engaged well afterwards. Thank you 👍🏾
During the pandemic, they allow one person at a time. While there was a customer inside, I waited outside. I had a jacket that streches all the way to the throat. There were some other people waiting. When it’s my turn, the woman over there said she won’t get me inside without mask(which is understandable.)HERE IS THE POINT: There was another guy behind me and he didn’t have a mask either.Quickly I found a mask and came back. And I saw that other guy without mask was inside! I at least had a jacket streches all the way to the throat. He didn’t have anything!I don’t know what’s the point but I have never encountered that obvious discrimination.Never ever go there again. I also recommend that you DO NOT support such discriminatory businesses.
Absolutely avoid this store. I purchased cleats and cleat covers a few weeks ago and today I was going to used the clear covers on my bike shoes. They were to small so I went to the store but they refused to give me the right size cleat covers even though they gave me the cleats and covers as a package and they were never used. Horrible service and attitude. AVOID!!
I went here for a flat fix. Specifically mentioned that I had mr tuffy (a liner that helps prevent flats) and to please keep it in there. Then I bought another ser of tuffy for my other bike. They sold me the wrong size liner, argued with me that it was the correct size before eventually refunding it. This liner was literally triple the width of my tire, 2.5 inches and Im riding a road bike with 700x25c. Fast forward 2 days, another flat in the same tire. I fix it myself and my liner isnt in there. This spot charged me $40 for a pair for my other bike and then threw mine out on this one. Also, their compressor only puts up to 80 lbs of air, my tire takes a min of 95 and a max of 130. And the pump outside has a poor seal and a broken gauge. Definitely never returning here.
This guys are awesome, friendly and know their stuff. Good repairs and fair prices
Very convenient, right at queensboro bridge entrance in Manhattan. Nice people, friendly service, wide selection of things you might need to make your bike commute more pleasant.
My friend had some work minor work done to his bike and he was very satisfied with the end results
Terrible front staff and even nastier phone service while trying to pick up a bike that I had already paid for. What was supposed to be a one-day turnaround for pickup turned into 4 days. Every time we called to ask when the bike would be ready, the lady said “When it’s ready, we’ll call you.” Two days later, when asked if the bike would be ready the following day, the response was again “I don’t know. When it’s ready, it’s ready.” When my husband called saying this is ridiculous, she said it would be ready in two hours. Somehow miraculously when a man called and raised his voice, it was going to be ready. When we still hadn’t received a call after two hours, we called 45 minutes before closing and were told it would be ready.Avoid at all cost.
Staff were friendly, willing to call another location to see if they had a certain bike in inventory. However, I had a poor experience when I sold a bike (on Ebay) and shipped it through them via Bike Flights. They handled the process well, but damaged the bikes paint in the packaging process (zip ties cutting into the frame, front tire rubbing on the frame and rear triangle). I ended up reimbursing the buyer $200 for the damage. They seem like a decent place, but there are plenty of other, better bike shops elsewhere in the city
Great shop
Really great service and prices
Martin is the best cycle pro God bless him!!!
Excellent service and advice. They fixed my flat in a few minutes and helped me get the gear I needed. Very friendly and low key. Not pretentious. They also speak Spanish. Loved the shop!
Terrible service, lady was extremely unfriendly and made me pay $5 to untighten a bolt on the back wheel that was too tight. Shop is dirty and quality is bad. Do not recommend, for renting, buying parts or repairs. NYC Bicycles a couple blocks up are very friendly instead.
Perfect, affordable place for quick small repairs. Got a tube replaced, air in both tires, and chain greased in five minutes for $9. I cant vouch for anything else, but I know Id feel comfortable coming back to buy equipment or for larger issues.
Never seem to open on time. This is the second time I come at 10AM and the curtains are still down. It is 10:20AM now and I feel my time was wasted. Other than that good service and advice.
Inexperienced staff. Please don’t buy expensive good. They are doing game. Items mostly cheap but you can’t used many days.
They want to literally rob you..very very rude..uncivilized people no customer service...son of bit....
Bought 2 bikes from there over the years since I work not to far. Get my bike tuned up there once a year and usually they do great work. But this time I went in in to get my back tire replaced and a new tube. I pick it up ride it home next day flat tire. I go back thinking it was my riding that popped the tube. I buy a new inner tube from them install it myself check the tire for any punctures or objects but do notice that the tire is a bit hard to put on; Ive put a new inner tube on before and it was never this hard. Ride the bike home and the bike tire feels like Im fish tailing on corners. next day check the bike flat tire. Look at my front tire check the size then look at the back tire and noticed that they put the wrong size tire on my bike. Went back tell the its the wrong tire they tell its not, I Google and show them the specs on the bike. I ask do they have the right size they say no. Then why even fix the bike if you dont have the correct parts?!! $109 I spent plus another $8 for the second inner tube. This shows me theyre more concerned with making money than doing the job right. Im bringing the tire and inner tube and back an getting a refund just going to buy my tire on Amazon for cheaper.Update: only got a refund for my tire but not for the inner tube. Asked what about the tube and he said he couldnt cause I put it on the myself. Even though I only rode on it one time for 35 mins and it was replacing the tube from the one he put that popped on its first time out. Obviously the tubes were defective or due to the the fact that they gave me the wrong tire in the first place that it caused inner tube to pop. Then the guy working theyre told me that he was doing me a favor by giving me a fund on the tire because the tire had a bit of wear on it. Obviously it was going to come back brand new I rode two days on it unsuccessfully. Tried to explain that to the moron behind the counter but he was hearing it at all. I told him I what two bikes from there and spend at least 100 plus dollars a year there in repairs and supplies. And he said yeah just thats once a year that doesnt mean much to me. After this experience Im never going back there ever again. I found a better more professional bike shop to do my business in or just do it myself and buy my stuff from Amazon. Eventually went to a another bike shop they had to correct size tire and inner tube and put it on myself. Rode on it to work and back home over the same roads with no flats and no troubles at all. Funny thing is that work at a hardware store a few blocks away and people come all the time asking if I know where there is a bike shop and I would usually refer to them to this shop. Not anymore, they think that the hundred plus dollars I spend a year means nothing now imagine all the business I wont be sending there will that matter now.
Terrible service and unhelpful. The woman who works the front staff is ill-mannered and rude.
So rude
If you say that youre gonna open at 10am, do open at 10am! Dont make people wait in the miserable rain for at least 15 minutes.
In a time of COVID where everyone should be good and helpful to one another. I will forever boycott this place!!!!
Called in advance to see if they had a replacement seatpost for a 31.6mm sized frame. They said they did, albeit at a price almost double that of buying a brand name seatpost online. Nonetheless, I needed it right away and want to support local businesses, especially the endangered species known as the neighborhood bike shop. I showed up and was the only customer in the store. After a ten minute wait one of the employees came up with a 30mm post. The manager claimed it would fit. Having wrenched my own bikes for 20 years I knew that to be untrue. Wasted trip compounded by an inaccuracy over the phone and outright false sales information after a long wait. I wont be going back. BTW, I can order a Kalloy (good brand) version of what I need delivered next day for the exact price Spokesman wants to charge for a no name misfit part. Sad.
This place does not test the bikes after repairs. Took my bike for repairs and had to go back 4 times because it was not fixed appropriately. The last time I refused to take it back unless the staff had made sure the bike was actually fixed.Take your bike somewhere else unless is something very very simple like a tire change.
Great affordable place to get bikes to rent for the day in Central Park. It’s a bit of a walk to get to Central Park with them but always like renting here.
Depending on whos working at the store will depend on your experience. They are reluctant to want to deal with you but if they cant do something they contact other locations for help so that is ok but the attitudes needs a pickmeup.
I went to that place twice: the first time the staff was more interested in texting/playing on their smartphones than in helping the clients. The second time, despite my reservations in visiting again, I bought shoe covers and I realized later that they sold me damaged products (there was a big tear). When I went back two days later with the unused product (still in package) they agreed to refund me but they refused to reimburse the sales taxes that I paid.
Horrible service! They couldn’t care less!My bike came out very dirty and full of grease!Do not recommend at all!
Excessive price and service not good
Hard to find.
This is certainly the worst bike shop in Nyc ! Really expensive components. The guys that work there are so rude and completely unprofessional! I don’t how this shop still running. Don’t go there . They will rip you off with the most expensive parts and bad service!!!
Very helpful! Fixed my flat tire on the spot! Nice guys too!
Surprisingly well stocked for an nyc shop. Everyone was very nice and knowledgable. They had exactly what I needed and also fixed a flat very quickly.
I think its a good shop. They changed my bycicle breaks, put a new back light in, checked everything and pumped up for a reasonable price in less than two hours!
Very bad . Mr Pedro was unpolited with me, an old client. I really do not recomend
Good service, friendly personnel, reasonable price for bike rental, decent quality rental bikes. Will return.
Came in to get my bike tuned up. Staff was very polite and professional. Thanks, guys!
I just needed an Allen key to tighten my crank bolt but they wouldnt lend me one for 10 seconds... So, if you have an issue that you are able to fix yourself, just go directly to a hardware store and buy the tool, dont waste your time going here...
Quality bike shop, guys there are knowledgeable, and there is a good selection of products.
Went in to fix a flat (I usually carry a spare and didnt this time) and I noticed that they didnt inflate to 90. I asked him why, and he proceeded to tell me that my tire was cheap (it is) and that filling it any more would result in the tire popping. Now, the tire pressure being at 90--which is what it calls for and I do EVERY single time I fill it up--will not result in it popping. What will result in it popping is that the bead was not sitting on the rim correctly--which when I pointed out, they again told me it was a cheap tire and that they wouldnt be able to fix it without the tire popping. I asked if they had a tire seater they could use. They worked on the tire for 10 seconds with the tire seater and said they had fixed it (they didnt, but by that time I had already wasted so much time feeling like I was asking for too much). I paid my $17 and rode home. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth; the main guy was condescending, and had a general bad attitude. The best part about this shop is the location and its proximity to the bridge.
They are doing bike tour in New York, there are awesome! The best bike tour that you can find in New York!
Shame on this place for their bad cycling karma. I nipped in on my way home from work because my crank arm was wiggling loose and I needed to tighten it up in order to get home, a 2 second allen key job. The first member of staff was on the phone, grumbled something when I tried to ask him a question and didnt bother stopping his phone conversation. The second told me they dont lend tools, but I can buy some.I explained I only need to use it for 2 seconds, that cyclists are meant to look out for one another and that hell get business out of me in the future, but he refused because that doesnt pay the bills.Jokes on him, Ive just moved to the area, its my local shop, I have 4 bikes and constantly buy parts, and am looking to spend around $2k on a new road bike for my wife - none of this business will go their way due to terrible attitude and total lack of service.Karma tells me nobody will stop to help when he next gets a puncture.
Purchased a new set of rims for a performance road bike only to have a spoke break and rims bend, with no crash! Not trust worthy!
Recently rented a nice carbon Fuji road bike for some touring upstateThe team were super helpful and set up the bike for a perfect fit including changing the handlebar stemNice job and good valueThanks
Extremely helpful and they know a lot about different types of bikes. 👍
Theyre very nice people & they do excellent job 👍👍👍
Excellent service. Period.
Excellent shop very helpful and very good people !
Great shop, awesome staff. Hugo is the man.
These guys really helped me in a pinch. Thank you!
Terrible service. Asked them to replace my cassette and in the process had me riding around with a loose chain that popped only 5 minutes within riding.
Rude and inconsiderate, overpriced.
The place Its not worth it, If buy something from them u can not return it, the way they play Its a Ghetto style .
Went in for a slow leak in front tire and it was replaced in no time at all.
They are perfect professional skills
Terrible service. Terrible people
Overpriced, last resort type of place.
Great service by hugo
Arent open when they say theyre open and never answer the phone. Dont even have an outgoing voicemail, just a robovoice. Avoid.
