Picking up my brand new bike and signed up for a custom fitting. Despite a scheduling snafu for the fitting, Justine and the team there all went out of their way to accommodate, while juggling a million other things. Real people, who love to ride, positive experience.
Taylor was super helpful, patient, and knowledgeable in helping choose my bike. They also allowed me to go on several test rides before I made up my mind. I was also glad that I was able to find a helmet that fitted me well here, which doesnt always happen easily 😅. Id highly recommend this shop to anyone whos looking to buy a bike or other bike related services. Thank you Taylor and Bicycle Habitat!
Knowledgeable. Patient with a nervous newbie. Awesome. Need I say more?
Matt and the Rest of the staff are very helpful find bike, parts and Accessories…Awesome team !
Friendly and helpful staff at Bicycle Habitat make sure you get the most out of your bike.
Bicycle Habitat is the truth. Matt and Taylor were both exceedingly helpful. I needed my bike stripped down to the frame and fork for a repair and I needed the service done same day. Matt not only got it done for me and within the time frame I needed, but wrapped all of my bike parts extremely carefully. Beyond my experience, I could also just hear from Taylors interactions with other customers in the store a helpful kindness and attention. Taylor entertained conversations about bike lights, pedals, and bike pumps with the same vigor and care he did for my request. Matt, equally, gave attention to every customer no matter how big or small the task or question. An older gentleman needed someone to simply see if he had attached his bike rack properly to the back of his car, Matt went above and beyond and confirmed he had installed everything properly. I would go back to bicycle habitats Chelsea location in a heartbeat. In fact, I plan to have my bike re-assembled there once the repair is complete. Thank you for creating a friendly atmosphere, where truly EVERYONE is welcome.
Justine was very helpful. She was careful about following COVID protocol, and found the accessories I needed promptly. She also helped me find a suitable helmet within my price range, and offered to order a part that wasnt currently in stock. Altogether a great experience.
I had nothing but great things to say about Bicycle Habitat before today. After speaking with the “Manager”, Justine Valle, I wouldn’t recommend a soul come here. They were very rude and too busy for their own good. I can tell they treat everyone under them horribly and it’s such a shame that I came in today.I asked that I speak with the associate helping me before and I was met with disregard and dismissal.I would rather fix my bike myself than talk you again Justine. Cheers.
Lovely and personable service. In the short time that I was there I was made to feel completely welcome and the invitation to return was sincere. Highly recommend.
Incredibly friendly and helpful staff (thanks Justine!). They were quick to work on two of my bikes during a very busy time for bikes!
They are professionals and they value ther work.Staff is the highlight of the store.
Thank you Matt from Bicycle Habitat in Chelsea. He went above and beyond to help me get sized up for my Diverge ES5 with multiple adjustment to make sure I was satisfied with the sizing. I also ended up picking my bike 5 days earlier since it was supposed to be shipped to Park Slope. Since I was in the area, they were able to assemble it in Chelsea...it was ready to go in 15minutes. Saved myself a trip! Thanks, Matt + the team. 10/10.
I really love my bike and I’m thankful for the lady that helped me! I didn’t catch her name but she was so nice and helped me with my bike . I haven’t rode a bike in so long so her being so informative helped my nerves. I came from Jersey to get this bike and I’ll do it again just because of her. Thank you love!
I had the best experience here! Tony helped me and he was so kind, knowledgeable and helpful. Will be going back!!
Friendly, fast, reasonably priced. What else can I ask for? Ill be back.
Great bike shop helpful staffDealt with Matt he was very helpful and knows his stuff
Have always loved this place, back to when they were on Lafayette. Still the same vibe. Good people. Super professional. Highly recommended!
I had a blown out tire and they were able to fix within 30 min. It was a very quick process and everyone was very friendly. I couldn’t recommend them enough!
Really great experience. Working with Matt to find my new bike was a delight. I will definitely be coming back for my future bike needs in NYC.
Great work and super nice people! I always come here for my bike repair needs
Big fan of this place. Very kind and knowledgable staff. A bit on the pricey side for some of the accessories, but I dont mind paying a premium to support a local business.
Justine was awesome. Promote her. I ordered a 1K racing bike that was too big for me and not the right type of bike. She quickly got me the right bike (at a lower price) as well as the required accessories.
While searching for a bike during the pandemic... Bicycle Habitat was able to locate a bike for me. Initially they didnt have my requested color but Matt gave me a few other colors options in my size. 3 days later the bike was ready for me to pickup. He also honored the original purchase price. Seems specialized is raising prices across their entire product line. For some strange reason (might be because original color bike was refunded) I wasnt charged for the bike when I picked it up. In essence I had walked away with a free bike. But that would not be right. I authorized Justine to charge my CC, The bike rides great. Might go back in a month or so to make required adjustments. highly recommended shop
The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. I felt comfortable buying a bike there, and the mechanics are first rate.
Great speedy service + friendly and very knowledgeable people!!
Bye $2000 bike less than a week I go back to just put air and they can’t because I need to buy an adapter from them. I understand if I’m coming back several months later but less than two weeks and they can’t just put simple air knowing they have an adapter it’s ridiculous embarrassing for me to go back.
All my Questions are always answered correctly, on parts id need. i highly recommend this shop, they have tons of bikes in all sections and customer service is the best compared to all the shops i have visited in the past. The mechanics are also great they fix any problem i have even a few i never knew about the attention to detail is immaculate. Thanks Bicycle Habitat!
Customer service was excellent! Thanks Justine, I can’t wait to take my new bike out for a spin!!!
This is the place to go to when you need a fix! I needed my escooters front tire & inner tube to be replaced and they did just that. As long as you supply the parts of course, they also adjusted the front handlebars for me. They fixed my scooter for only $40. Thats a steal! The staff is also very nice!
Amazing service, Matt talked through all the questions I had and even ones that I didnt. This saved me from destroying the new bike on my (unsuitably-configured) bike rack. Thank you Matt!! This is bike #3 purchased from this location and well be back for more.
A fabulous bike shop. Been a loyal customer there for years. Worth the trip from Brooklyn. Obviously unforeseen issues with an old bike will always pop up but you cant blame a shop for this. You can only hope the problem will be clearly communicated and and handled intelligently+professionally. Bicycle Habitat achieves all of this and then some. 10/10
Ive written before but writing again: Bicycle Habitat are the best. Recently had some trouble with bottom bracket and chain tension on a single speed bike i bought from them 1.5 years ago. They fixed it within two hours, and since the bike was from them, they wouldnt even let me pay for the repair (i tried, I swear.) I recommend BH to any/all cyclists I know, from beginners to seasoned alleycats. BH are total pros, treat their customers really well, and are just a cool crew of people you want to support. Cant say enough good things about them, but go find out for yourself.
This is a very good shop. 🚴🚴🚴
Good service but a bit pricey compared to other bike shops around the area
Great customer service. Went to another store and they walked away and offered no information or advice.
Outstanding customer service. Superior mechanics. Competitive prices.Triple Crown
Great staff and service.
The knowledgeable staff were able to see the details of my previous purchase of a bike from their Brooklyn location on Vanderbilt, and based on that info selected & assembled a new set of wheels for me. The wheels were exactly what I needed and came at a great price. Much appreciated, wouldve been lost without BH!
These folks love bike, which makes the experience fun. They are super friendly and helpful and very nice.
They always solve my bike problems. I like them a lot!
Staff is very patient and customer-oriented even though it was a busy time when i was there
Bikase Grocery Pannier it the best type you can get for your daily errands!!😎
Employees are kind knowledgeable helpful rockstars. BH’s policy of free check up post purchase is unique and helpful. BH is also the only place in town that had the inventory during a time when no one has inventory.
Best service in the area. Matt and the crew are hard working, honest, care about the work they do and care about their customers. I highly recommend Bicycle Habitat!
Amazing staff and great service.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I had a smooth bike buying experience here. GO!
Truly a 10/10 bike purchase experience in the age of Covid. Spoke with Nicholas over the phone in the morning, confirmed that the online inventory was correct, put a deposit down, and they had the bike built up in a couple of hours! Was expecting to wait a few days, I think I just got lucky with the timing. When I arrived, I waited outside for someone to help. They wheeled the bike out and I was riding away in less than 10 minutes. Thats about 1 hour less than any other bike purchase Ive ever made. Thank you Nicholas!
Matt provides amazing service and attention. I first starting going to Bicycle Habit a few months ago for minor repairs on an old bike. He personally helped me. It led to me being the proud new owner of a Specialized Allez road bike that he secured for me (and two months earlier than predicted). I’m happy with my new perfect bike.
Matt was very attentive to what I was looking for in the repair and tuning of my old touring bike. The bike came back in beautiful condition and the repaired derailleur is like butter. Have been using Bike Habitat for years and it has never been better.
Bicycle Habitat helped us in our hour of need. Professional service that was laid back, courteous, and eager to be supportive to new cyclists. Even during this time of a national bike shortage and global pandemic they were able to locate new bicycles for my husband and I. Standing in line, waiting for our new Linus Roadsters to be assembled, I witnessed first hand the professional treatment of diverse clients and their commitment to the bicycle community of New York City. I felt not so much as just a customer but a lucky new member of a unique community. Thank you Bicycle Habitat.
Much better than it used to be. I bought a bike from their Lafayette St location (now closed) years ago. Anytime I went back for service or accessories, the staff was indifferent to the point of rude, so I took my business elsewhere. Now that they are in Chelsea, I gave them another shot. I must say the experience is vastly improved over my last visits to Lafayette St. The staff are attentive, and customer service has improved by leaps and bounds. Ive only paid a couple visits to this location, but it has always been positive. This review would be 5 star, but sometimes the information you get over the phone is different than what you get on-site. Ill revise this review after Ive made a few more visits. So far, Im quite pleased with this location and its staff.
A great bike store! The person who helped me, Lia, was incredible at making sure I had everything I needed for my bike. She navigated social distancing when I was at the store and ran back and forth to show me various options at different price points and styles. Lia is a great salesperson and deserves a huge raise!
I went there to get my flat fix which they did bit they gave me back my with the chain off and when I started riding I was hearing a squeaky noise that wasnt there before so I stopped to check it out and my wheel was rubbing against my Frame which means they didnt align my wheel correctly
I had a flat a few blocks away. I called the shop and they asked me to bring it over. I arrived and was greeted by really friendly staff. They had many customers but worked fast. Bike was repaired in 15 minutes and the price was reasonable. Great place and great staff.
Fantastic experience with the team here. I had a niche issue with my FSA electronic gear system and the team worked proactively to solve it, contacting and working with the FSA to get my bike up and running again. I was kept up to date constantly and appreciate the support.I would highly recommend. Thanks team.
Always a great experience at bycicle habitat. Was my go to when I lived in NYC and now still my go to living in CT.
Unprofessional, overpriced and extremely rude. I brought my bike in on a Sunday for a basic tune-up and was told I could pick it up the following Thursday. When I showed up to pick it up, they snapped at me that it wasnt ready and that it wouldnt be ready for ANOTHER entire week. I came here because it was close and convenient, but Id rather go a little further to receive decent customer service. When I asked if there was a manager I could talk to, the extremely unprofessional employee told me just do it online. No problem, heres me doing just that. FYI I took my bike to another shop nearby and they were able to fix it in a day.
Great experience. I Bought a Specialized Roubaix; even with the COVID situation ongoing, the staff is very helpful. A special mention for Pablo: Great!
Great place to get repairs and buy bikes. They were extremely helpful with repairing mine.
I can honestly say that I’ve never had a pleasant experience at this particular location. The staff come off as condescending and rude, which is weird because the folks at the (now-closed) Soho location were always super-friendly and helpful.
I bought my Trek 820 from Bicycle Habitat in 2000. The only thing I’ve had to change is tires and 2 or 3 chains through those 20 years! Maybe some cables once over. Its been a rock solid bike all along. I couldn’t be happier with purchase then, and now, and I was happy to support the same independent business 20 years later on a new set of tires. As always, great customer service, since the day I first test rode my Trek in SoHo, Spring of 2000, to this year’s purchase. Highly recommend!
TOTAL RIP OFF! Take your bike elsewhere. I was told there were no significant problems with my bike and that it just needed a “tune up” for the gears and brakes. Exactly what expected. Left my bike with them and was charged $90!!! After telling them I had purchased my bike at the store, they discounted it to $50. Based on their advertised prices a brake and derailleur adjust should be $27 before the “Get your bike with us? Free brake and gear adjustments” promo. Take your bike elsewhere.
Great bike shop, Everyone there has been super courteous and diligent with every request Ive made it is my go to bike shop
They tried to pull the very classic upsell on me in light speed, not a fan.
They are reliable, responsive and willing to go above and beyond to make the costumer happy. every question is a challenge for them. Will brin gmy business to them anytime.
Matt was great helping me ship my bike and he put it back together. He was also giving me tips on NYC Riding and maintenance.
Took new bike from box to get properly set up. Everything was amazing! and my bike rides incredible!! Thank you!!!
Amazing! Super professional! Super friendly! Fast and affordable. 5+ stars!
Excellent experience! Lovely staff, very friendly and VERY helpful. Knowledgeable staff that made shopping for a bike very easy. Matt (I believe that was his name and I believe him to be a manager) was extremely helpful and I am grateful for his help and the whole team at BH!! Thank you! I recommend this place for all of your bike needs
So, my bike has problems. Im aware it has problems. I cant go more than a month of riding it regularly without the rear tire going, and its always a pain to walk it on the front wheel because the inner tube gets tangled up.Normally, when this happens, I take it to a bike shop to get the inner tube replaced. I do it this way because Id rather pay $17-$20 every month instead of the $100-$200 it would take to fix everything and disrupt my other living expenses. I just had the brake pads replaced and the tires unbent and that was a big amount for me. It has never been a problem for me to have the inner tube replaced, ever.Since I work in Union Square, I walked my bike 6 avenues (on the front wheel) to this place to get the inner tube replaced like Ive always done. The time that it would have taken was instead spent listening to a lecture by the owner about how bad shape my bike is in and how they wont service it unless I agree to pay to fix everything. Also, when the employee brought it inside for a minute the front wheel was suddenly leaking when he brought it back out so...I guess anything could have happened. Im sure the expectation was that I should pay for the other tire, too.The final straw for me was when the manager insisted that the bike might not even make it out of the shop if they didnt service it the way they wanted (read: if I didnt spend the money they wanted). Ive been riding the same bike for 3 years that he talked my ear off about for 15 minutes, and I didnt tolerate everything else up until that point to be insulted with hyperbole.TLDR: I went there to have a flat short-term fixed, I walked away with two flats, and Im of the opinion this place is scamming customers.
It was a very easy process to pick out and buy my new bike. The mechanics were very nice and it was even ready a day early! I’m very happy with process and bicycle.
Extremely rude at the Chelsea location today. Will never go here again
Alicia was super helpful and set me up with a great bike to tackle the hills in my neighborhood. The staff kept the line moving fast.
Very fast and understanding what I needed.. Great service !
The team at the Chelsea location were very helpful and organized.
Love! Thanks for being very cognizant of the current Covid-19 climate while maintaining swift and helpful customer service.
Friendly, knowledgeable service. Was also helped with some cool accessory recommendations that I ended up buying. Very happy with my experience!
Amazing customer service. We worked with Matt who was very friendly and knowledgeable about the products. He asked the right questions to help us get the exact product we were looking for. I recommend this shop!
Great service and prices are super fair!
Fixing my bicycle was very good. The staff was very friendly and kind. He explained to me what he fixed. There was no problem after it was fixed. The only reason this is my rating is the assortment of the bicycle lights. There was a product that cost over $90 and about $20. I wanted some kind of product that is priced and worth in between.
Super helpful staff gave me real info about what was in stock and ordered me what I needed.
Its so great to have actual personnel who KNOW things and help you! Thanks, Matt!
Awful experience, prices very high! I have to wait outside even when there es not a line.
Fast and professional. Would definitely do business again.
Gave very helpful, friendly advice. Sold me a bike that I loved but turned out to be too small. I then had to get the right size elsewhere. They exhibited no hard feelings whatsoever, helped me build and kit out the replacement. Justine Valle in particular was awesome.
Great customer service. Im happy with my purchase and would recommend to others.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. And, I really like my new bike!
Ive bought a bike at Bicycle Habitat, bought one for my kid, bought gear, had repairs done, etc. Have visited the Chelsea, Prospect Heights, and Park Slope locations. Almost without exception the staff are friendly and helpful, and in some cases they are really stellar, like when I was getting panniers at the Chelsea location and the staff member (I wish I remembered his name) really educated me on what to look for, the pros & cons of panniers vs. baskets, how they fit onto the rack, etc. Count me as a happy customer.
I was having trouble putting my scooter tire back on my rim. They explained what they planned to do and why it was so difficult to put on which I always love also how to change the tune myself for next time if needed. Very cool! And the price was more than fair and service was fast. Thanks bicycle habitat.
Justine was fantastic. I needed a new saddle for my road bike. She listened to what I was looking for and explained the various models that were available. Priceless!
Excellent service and prices. Ive been taking my bike here for a few years now, and I always find them to be friendly, responsive, and very honest. Happy to have such a great local business I can support.
Great selection, very efficient and friendly. Like their COVID protocol too
Great service! Professional, friendly and doing their best, even during these crazy times :-)
One of the best bike shop in town. Great service. Very helpful. Processional. Know what they are talking about. They have not tried to over charged me nor offered crazy pricey solution and this since 2012.
This review is only based on the accessibility to get air for my tires. I have never stepped foot inside. Outside they have a sign labeled air and the best part about it is that its compressed air pump. So you can fill your tires fast and keep moving, unlike the traditional manual pump which is the equivalent of churning butter. I really appreciate this aspect of Bicycle Habitat
