I learned about this place from their visits to the Eastern Market in DC and just had to visit the shop qhen I came to NYC. I was not disappointed. I am getting ready to move into a new home and I am already picking out new fixtures and furniture.

A collection of vintage stuff taken from estate sales and demolitions. Many of the items are large and unique but also expensive. They also sell tables they make themselves. They do have a variety of vintage metal and glass objects for decorative purposes. Worth visiting if you are looking for anything good and olde [sic].

Calling themselves a Fireplace Store or an Antique Furniture Store is a typical example of the understatement and modesty these folks have regarding their store, their knowledge, and their inventory, all of which are considerable. If you are an aficionado of things that are no longer available, either because theyre obsolete or because there just isnt a call for enough of them to have them manufactured on large scale, or theyre just plain unusual, then drop by OGT to pick up your Bathroom Light Sconce from the 1930s or that Steelcase Office desk the size and heft of an aircraft carrier, then look no further. And the amazing thing is that its all reasonably well organized and well sorted, NOT priced to make you cringe,(And theres sometimes room for negotiation on that score, as well). In my experience, the staff knows their stuff. Also, the Website works in tandem with the stores, so you may spot something online, and have it shipped to the store rather than to you. They are truly a rarity and a genuine find in the massification and increasing homogenization of what used to be the New York of my youth. A place where the chain stores of the world didnt venture because they thought costs would be too high, or they couldnt understand the oddball New Yorkers, who are certainly NOT representative of the rest of the country, either in terms of outlook, politics or just diversity. None of this made us better, just different. Now were increasingly more like the rest of the country, and Olde Good Things and their knowledgeable staff are a throwback to another era, really. I find myself buying things I never knew I needed when i fog by there. Often, as my item is being bagged up one of the people who work there, or another customer will comment: Well, they dont make THOSE anymore, thats for sure! No, they sure dont, but thanks to Olde Goode Things, there are still places you can go to find that seagull-shaped anemometer (really) or the Crystal Doorknob (or ten of them) or other things that you may not even know WHAT their original purpose was, but for which you have a purpose all your own in mind…What a pleasure to still have places like this around and still be able to find that thing you didnt know was missing from making your home truly complete until you saw it in the aisle at OGT.

The lady told me that keys were 10 dollars, so I bought one and at $10 metal letter. She said $36, which doesnt make sense. Then she said she would give me a 10% discount and then she charged my card $39.20. This is a horrible business.

I was worried about it and tried to enter it. It is a so-called antique shop. There will surely be many good things worthwhile!
