Lovely cafe on a quiet side of town. The stain glass windows, wall mural, and the music gives you a chill vibe. I ordered the ABC juice with the well was shot, along with their avocado toast (WHICH WAS AMAZING!!) I would highly recommend this place if your looking for clean eats, coffee, and a good vibe!
With the extra high ceilings and religious iconography, the Cafe feels like its taking you to church when you walk in. The food fell just a bit shy of a spiritual experience. My green breakfast sandwhich featured an egg, avocado mix, Swiss cheese, and a few other veggies on a bagel. The sandwhich was good, though a little too large to eat comfortably. The cheese felt unnecessary for the overall flavor. The lemonade I had with it tasted very fresh, so make sure you are comfortable with a more acidic taste. Overall a decent place to eat at.
Great place for breakfast. Great selection of classic breakfasts, healthy breakfasts, great juice selection, and, very importantly, great coffee. Eating outside in the patio area was a great setting.
The vibe and atmosphere here is awesome! It is tucked in and hard to see from the street but super inviting as soon as you walk in. The employees here are super friendly and very helpful. With indoor and outdoor seating, lots of places to enjoy this cafe!I had the iced house chai and it is delicious! “A little spicier than mainstream coffee shops” -employee. But totally worth it!
WE LOVED THIS CAFE!The Fresh Juice was delicious! The Breakfast Burrito was delicious! The Jam on my biscuit was delicious! The staff was friendly and on point, the artwork was really awesome, & the A/C was cold!
Decent coffee shop in the bywater area. The staff are really friendly. they have fresh juices but they dont always have specific flavors in the cooler. They have a decent breakfast and lunch menu but their quality is okay. The food is fresh but not too creative. Its a nice spacious seating area inside and outside. I often see families here.
One of the best breakfast sandwiches ever? Awesome biscuit. Ill be back.
If you need a kale salad and a kombucha, this is the place for you. I liked the food and the vibe. The patio is nice. You can sit out there with your dog.
One of my favorite coffee places in NOLA. Vegetarian friendly and an extra touch thats hard to beat
The alligator eyes explode with flavor when chewed upon and the bobas fit perfectly in your nostrils. Great place, would eat again 10/10
Better than other options for coffee, juice and breakfast/lunch. Closes early
I had Avocado Toast topped with Lox, egg, feta cheese, arugula and cherry tomatoes, with fresh squeezed Orange Juice. It was fantastic and the staff were courteous and efficient! Thank you
Food was good, coffee was great. Excellent espresso! Ill be back to try something else
Green eggs and ham is my new favorite breakfast sandwich. A croissant the size of my head and enough pesto to absorb last nights wine. Get the green juice, apple/lemon/kale/spinach, dont remember the name.
Great coffee and fresh cafe-style food. Fresh juices. Servers are nice. Veggie friendly. On Thursdays from 12-2pm theres a cool pop up local food market.
Beautiful decor, wonderful staff, delicious food and drinks. I would absolutely recommend to anyone.
Ginger shots for the win!! Best Turkey Sammy around as well. Love the new tofu Asian wrap. Yummy yummy.
I show up yesterday morning, only to find out the company is closed from the 11th to the 15th, from a sign posted on the door, but the company cant update google. It says yall are about to open. Guess you dont care about google...
Light fresh and delicious. Love the atmosphere
Great cafe, friendly staff, quite a few outdoor seating options. In a quiet part of Nola.
First time here. Very good food, nice atmosphere, and service was quick. I ordered the Satsuma Cuban with a hibiscus raspberry tea. Drink was phenomenal and refreshing. The Cuban was good but I thought it needed more Creole mustard and aioli but thats just a personal preference. My friend had the avocado toast which I tried and it was very good and light. Ill probably be back because this is a very nice spot for brunch. Also, once youre done you can go check out the river right around the corner at Crescent Park.
My favorite neighborhood breakfast spot.
Nice cafe for a quick bite
Fun vibe. Happy to find gluten free choices.
Hipster with an urban vibe. Loved the quiche, service was quick and friendly too.
I checked this place out and I really like the atmosphere. The cold brew with oat milk was great! However, I can’t give it a 5 star because I got a pastry and something tasted off about it. It was chewy, kinda like it had been sitting there for a while. It’s a bummer because I really liked my experience besides that
Great breakfast sandwich, I’d recommend putting it on a croissant. Coffee was good, and the outdoor patio area was super cute. Ended up spending much longer than intended at Satsuma because the place was so inviting and friendly.
Friendly staff, great place for a quick client meeting.
Excellent food, service and selection of healthy choices
I really like this place its always good, although the shells on the breakfast tacos need to be cooked more. Alot more.
They were extremely rude for no reason...but the food was amazing....with that being said get your food to go & enjoy!
Very pretty and quaint place. Nice cold pressed juices and simple breakfast options. Sit outside on a good day to be visited by a lot of sparrows and an occasional crow. Definitely would visit again.
Small neighborhood type of place. We wouldnt have found or tried it if not for looking up vegan food. What I appreciate is that they have vegetables! Plenty of them added to my scramble and to my husbands tofu. Toast nicely buttered. BUT no heavy whip for my coffee.
Friends had the potato hash special which looked delicious and was according to them. The biscuit was huge and flavorful. I had the Dr Seuss. The pesto was excellent, I just wish I had more of it. Great laid back atmosphere and taste of music. The staff was really helpful on giving directions to some local sights and attractions.
It was ok -- good, but not outstanding. Ordered the Vegan Veggie Wrap (pretty good) and the Turkey Sandwich.Pros: Hip atmosphere, decent portions, good vegetarian options, and substantially sourced ingredients.Cons: wait time for meal was 25 minutes, 2 sandwiches were $23, and there were probably a few health code violations going on in the kitchen. And to the gentleman who took our order -- thank you for taking our order with the holier-than-thou attitude. Im sure the customers appreciate it...
We had breakfast for several days in Satsuma. Great choice of breakfast, natural ingredients and healthy food choices, wonderful and friendly staff. Above all, great value for money. We are here for a few more days and Satsuma would be our preferred choice.
The Green Drink was amazing! Apple, cucumber, celery, kale and fennel for the win : ) The celery gave it such a wonderful warm flavor. I dont have a juicer at home, but I will definitely try to make a smoothie version of this juice. 🍎🥒
Rude staff at satsuma in the bywater
A low-key and somewhat out of the way cafe with great breakfast options featuring salad/avocado toast items. In a funky old building on a quiet street. The food was good and the atmosphere was pleasant and unhurried.
Beautiful outdoor seating with sweet singing birds 🐦 who will also eat your scraps! One time a bird pooped on me, but I consider that a good omen. High quality coffee and excellent customer service. All around awesome café. The food is a little pricey, but is of excellent quality as well.
This cafe is amazing!! And I’m a picky breakfast eater. So this place was a great surprise. Great quality food and friendly staff. Food selection is more on the “brunch” style serving but very filling and satisfying. The cafe can get filled up pretty quickly on the weekend. Food serving is speedy which makes the wait time to get a table non-bothersome. If you’re in the Bywater area and are hungry for a good breakfast style plate, make this cafe your first stop. You’ll thank me later! Enjoy!
Normally I would only say nice things about this place. The food is great. Today, however, I had some really bad service. I went there for brunch with my girlfriend. When I was asked what size coffee I wanted I said, a large would be nice. The girl behind the counter mocked me for saying this. I have no idea why. This same girl got our order wrong, but we decided not to complain. Later my girlfriend came in from outside to get some forks and napkins and this same girl had a snide comment about her. My girlfriend was wearing her sunglasses because it was bright outside and this girl turned to two other customers and said, she must be wearing sunglasses inside because her future is so bright. Once again I dont have any idea what we did to make her treat us like this. We tipped her 20% and were nothing but polite. It really sucks to tell someone you are taking them to a great little restaurant and then get treated like this.
I loved this place! They have amazing coffee and good breakfast foods. Its a sit down place so you can go in with a friend and spend your time talking and sipping on your coffee. It has a very calm and relaxing atmosphere and the staff are very kind. You could even go here alone and it take your time on your computer or just people watch for a bit. Highly recommend this place.
Great spot for breakfast. They have a lot of healthy choices which is hard to find in Nola. We enjoy sitting in the patio area with our dog.
Great coffee shop with an awesome menu as well. The espresso was excellent and that is my mark for a good coffee shop. I also tried the lunch menu and was impressed with the offerings. I had a sandwich and basil gazpacho. The sandwich was not memorable but basil gazpacho was amazing. I finished my lunch with one of the fresh citrus juices being offered that day and that was delicious as well. As good as the espresso was I would stop back for the juice any time I am in the neighborhood.
Very Very Yummy to my Tummy! If youre a quiche lover please get youba slice or two, I promise you wont wanna share. Breakfast potatoes are DeeLish, and so is the buttermilk pancake, its to Die For Folks. I almost ate the whole thing,. !!
We love Satsuma for the food, but prefer the other location bc though it is hipster-friendly, this one is not kid-friendly. In fact, some staff and patrons go out of their way to make (even LGBT+) families feel unwelcome.
Went here for breakfast on the last day of my trip. Wonderful place with great, wholesome meals. I got the toast special and it was amazing! I regret not trying one of their fresh juices. Atmosphere is great, I love all the music they were playing. Its a nice break from the cafés in the French Quarter.
Everything we tried here was great. Flavorful, beautiful, well-portioned breakfast platters and sandwiches. Strong, richly flavored coffee. Delectable desserts. And some of the best orange juice weve ever had! Theres also a whole huge variety of juices that we didnt really have a chance to explore. If youre in the area, this is a great choice for breakfast for as many days as necessary.
Former employee here. They wouldnt let me attend my grandmothers funeral because it coincided with Jazz Fest weekend. They couldnt possibly operate with only 29/30 of their staff members, and i was told i would have to miss the funeral of the woman who practically raised me. Food is overpriced and overrated, and they treat their employees like garbage.
Good to have a nice, organic-focused spot near where I live. This is in a trendy neighborhood, and has the WiFi, coffee, pastries, and meals to prove it. Maintains a certain New Orleans kind of charm, though, at least in the way that I know the nicer parts of NOLA, post-Katrina: quite white and progressive, and as such quite safe and health-conscious. Ill take it! There was a parade comprised of children in monster costumes that came by here today, and the staff didnt oppose them marching right in and doing a dance number for us. Thats our city, and thats Satsuma!
Nice little funky to grab a great cup of coffee.I did not eat here but the food looks and smells Great
Typical (in a good way) NOLA breakfast eatery with cozy outdoor space. Would eat again if in neighborhood. Had the Green (pesto) Eggs & Ham on a bagel.
Love the atmosphere. Good place to read or get some work done. Really good coffee. The Cuban sandwich was really good with gf bread. The snacks looks really good. Very friendly staff.
Scone was delicious! Friendly service. Comfortable environment.
Had breakfast and coffee here this morning. I have been on a road trip the last couple weeks and wanted some healthier fare to start the day. The cafe has a nice area inside for eating or sipping coffee and also a lovely little patio (which I sat at and watched the birds). I ordered the vegan breakfast curry with tofu (it was delicious) and a macchiato with almond milk. The expresso was bold and tasty. They also have fresh squeezed juices in bottles, so I got one to go. Very nice place.
Do not support this business or Pulp & Grind which they also own. They unethically fired their store manager, causing the entire staff to walkout in solidarity. This sort of treatment should not be rewarded. I will personally boycott Satsuma and Pulp & Grind to make room for more ethical businesses to open in our community. I was a loyal regular here for years and will never support any of their business again after this weekend.
Absolutely amazing! Very different, might not be everyone’s cup of tea! My guilty pleasure in New Orleans since 2009! The decor was so beautiful back then when u had that big dusty white angel hanging from the ceiling! Love the food you serve! Thank you
Great spot for breakfast and a coffee. What a cute and quirky local spot to enjoy!
Picked up coffee and breakfast sandwiches here almost every day during our stay in New Orleans. The service was excellent, coffees are so good, and there is an adorable cat that hangs out out front the cafe. Try the croissant if they have them, they are SO good!
Great coffee, cool vibes. Free wifi. Chill space. Can work here on laptops. Cute outdoor patio. Delicious egg sandwich.
My favorite place to get work done. Theyve added a high-top bar with USB charging and regular outlets, so I can work and charge without being in the way of those dining. The coffee and healthy food (like the Kale Salad) will keep you going. All the servers are super friendly and they make sure you dont have to bus your own dishes. Cannot say enough great things about Satsuma Cafe!
Lovely garden, perfectly adequate food. No soul. It’s a poor kind of brunch spot that can’t poach an egg.Update + 8 months: they still can’t poach an egg but the food is good now.
Delicious fresh baked goods and breakfast food. A bit one the pricier side. This location is better than the uptown one (mostly the crowd).
This Bywater-based cafe calls to mind a lot of the places I have seen in larger cities like San Francisco & New York: a coffeehouse with a hodgepodge of furnishings, a detailed menu, and hipster & visitor clientele.I had the BLT and a chocolate coconut cupcake. Both were delicious, but the latter was delectable. Supremely sweet and easily something you could share with another person.I noticed that most folks bussed their own tables, something I saw in other New Orleans based establishments. This did not detract from the experience, and I found the staff to be friendly & efficient.
I couldn’t help but stop in almost everyday during my visit. They have great coffee and breakfast menu. Green eggs and ham and their croissant French toast were amazing.
The aesthetics are nice, the customer is nice, the food is good however the variety of people needs to be more colorful.
My girlfriend and I were staying close to here and decided to try it out, and the food here is absolutely amazing. A very spacious cafe and the staff is super friendly. We had the green sandwich and parfait with biscuits and they were outstanding. We wish it wasnt our last day in New Orleans because we would have been coming here every morning!
Great little cafe with good food and coffee at reasonable prices. Its got a nice variety of options that dont categorically fall into cafe/coffee shop fare which is refreshing. Great atmosphere to get work done in.
Ive been half a dozen times. Enjoyed each visit except for my last. I ordered the biscuit breakfast sandwich and everything was burnt. Usually get a quiche or yogurt bowl. Ill stick with those next time.
Enjoyable for breakfast, particularly in the courtyard when the weather is nice. Good people and pet watching. Some people get annoyed by the somewhat aggressive sparrows that land on the tables hoping for snacks, but I think theyre cute. New York Times available, a plus! Local, papers too.
Juice! I had the Bright Eyes (house made carrot ginger lemon) which was delicious. Decor is quirky and lovely, including an epic mirror and a lovely piece of what looks like architectural statuary: an angel with a cup of espresso and a pet monkey.
Its good and good for you! Love the courtyard. Great service. Before and after rush its a lovely space to sit and read or write.
Great little Cafe for a quick bite and a latte. Cool atmosphere and good service. It had a great little patio too.
