Great little shop on Pirates alley next to St. Louis Cathedral. This is the house Faulkner lived while residing in New Orleans. Mostly fiction, literature, and poetry books along with locally themed books as well.

Quaint book shop. If you didnt ask for directions you wouldnt find it.

This is a beautiful little bookstore located behind St. Louis cathedral. There is a lovely lady in charge. She is well aware of Faulkners work and literature in general. I intend to keep going back to New Orleans and stopping by this charming place.

This is cool historic little book store that makes a great brief refuge from the bustle and noise of the French quarter. It’s very well maintained, the staff is kind and knowledgeable and the small selection of books is well chosen and has a nice variety. Pop in to see where Faulkner wrote his first novel and see some of his first editions!

This place is fantastic, charming and well stocked. The staff is very helpful with both phone and in person orders. If you are looking for something they will go out of their way to find what you need, I have never been disappointed. When I first found out that they do not have any real pirates working at the place I was a little let down, but they do have a kitten who lives upstairs and she is currently at peek cuteness, so drop by soon.

I am a resident of the Quarter and have been here now three times. Every time the woman who runs the shop has been rude and blunt. The first time, pre-Covid, and this time, after regulations have been lifted, my friend and I were chastised immediately at the door because there are already 4 people in the shop. THEN MAKE A PLAN AND TELL US KINDLY WHEN WE CAN RETURN. This couple doesnt need the money and theyve created a mausoleum of expensive books they want to sanction off to the general public. I dont know who they dream their clientele will be, but Im a graduate student in the realm of English literature so it seems shortsighted even Im turned away rudely at the door. I have to believe Faulkner himself would not approve. Id give this zero stars if I could.

The one time I went in this place I asked the woman behind the counter if they had anything by Christopher Moore she looked at me and said “the books we have are probably more expensive than you can afford.”I responded with “I make more than 250k a year and collect rare first editions but I don’t buy from morons” and I left and will never go back. That was in 2015 and I will pain a house with a Q-tip before I ever give that place a dime.

Had such a lovely time chatting it up about books and the history of the building with the wonderful person working (1/2/21) and felt very safe the whole time thanks to the limited capacity. We walked out with a classic as well as a Faulkner title, of course. Definitely a stop worth bragging about!

Great little place. One of those shops where you end up taking home something unexpected that ends up being a favorite. Lots of poetry to discover, new literary fiction in hardback, and plenty of classics. The lady there knows it all and has great suggestions and recommendations.

This is an attractive and well-organized bookstore, housed in a rather small space that was once an apartment rented by William Faulkner. It’s a lovely place, like a bookstore you might find in some quirky but well-made independent film. There are rare, signed (and therefore expensive) editions... as well as more affordable (but just as unique) volumes for sale. The members of the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I found several interesting books... more than I intended to buy when I entered! I look forward to a return visit.

I have been to Faulkner Books twice. It is a gem. The place is small, but the selection is choice. You can, of course, find Faulkner. For a tourist like me, it was a pleasure to find innumerable volumes of fiction and nonfiction from and about New Orleans, most of which I had not known about. But you will find literary treasures of many kinds. Whoever is at the desk will be friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. If you like literature and find yourself in New Orleans, you owe it to yourself to stop in.

Beautiful historical site. Great poetry collection and set of Faulkner originals, but far too small to include much of a selection of titles.

Well-organized, small but doesnt feel cramped (though they packed a lot of titles in there). The first editions/collectible case is definitely worth checking out, & they have some cool ephemera on the walls. There was something a little off-putting for me -- I think it was because there was no music playing? To be fair I was with my mom who is super loud so background noise helps mask her silliness. :D worth a stop, even if youre not a Faulkner fan (I am not).

Best bookstore Ive ever been to, right in the very heart of the French Quarter. I buy a Faulkner book every time I visit, and I like to imagine where in the house he was sitting when he wrote a few of his books. Its fairly small, but you will find exactly what youre looking for here (unless youre into the vampire romance genre. This aint your spot.)If you want to read what was written in the house, the following books are usually stored front and center:1. Soldiers Pay (His first major work)2. Mosquitoes (set in NOLA)If youre a fan of poetry, the back hallway is your spot. There are 2 full bookshelves packed with all the poetry you could ever want.Then go next door and get some absinthe 😬

I never caught the owners name but she was very friendly and made some great recommendations to my wife on what to get based off of her likes. Really cool store and tucked away in an alley off Royal. Highly recommend stopping in here whether on vacation or local.

Nestled in the French Quarters Pirate Alley, this shop served as home to Ernest Hemingway when he wrote his first novel. He went on to complete several others in the small home. It is now an amazing rare book store. Highly highly recommended.

This is probably my favorite bookstore of all time! The woman who runs it ( Suzanne?-please forgive me-I always forget names) is a devoted reader. Every so often I go in the store and ask her to recommend her favorite reads. She loads me up with as many as I desire. I am NEVER disappointed. The bookstore is gorgeous, with handpicked books that appeal to many different tastes. It is the Magic Emporium of books for me-always something unique, captivating and beautiful waiting to be discovered. Ask the blonde woman-she knows her books!

Primarily retail, Faulkners offers a healthy selection of rare and first edition volumes (mostly of local literati). On display are letters and photographs from many of these same local authors, and the staff is professional yet warm. Excellent poetry selections.

Not worth going to if youre a racial minority or do not fit the white, thin and able-bodied persona. A places bookseller does not have to be explicitly racist to tell you you arent welcome in their store. I saw the old white woman go out of her way to help my white friend and another white lady that walked into the store but did not say a word to me or an overweight white woman who walked in. This detail to service had that much of an effect that I decided not to buy a book that I had actually wanted to read and decided that Id find the book elsewhere to not give to a low key subtly racist seller. Its quite odd given that Southern Gothic literature often provides a scathing critique on old Southern racism and yet this store is run by a seller whonis racist, which makes this establishment even more ironic. POC - this place is definitely not for you. Spend your money elsewhere with people that will actually give a damn.
