An amazing locally-owned shop! The owner was so kind and friendly. I stopped in to pick up a few last minute Christmas gifts for my fellow feline-loving friends, and of course had to bring a treat home to my boy! They had so many cute things to choose from, and very reasonably priced! Clyde also approves.

Update: Later that afternoon, someone from the shop texted me to apologize, saying there had been a lot of sales reps keeping them busy. She offered to ship my order to me at no charge or to do the refund I had requested. I accepted the free shipment. It is supposed to go out today via USPS. Hopefully they will also clear their phones voicemail - being able to leave a message instead of getting hung up on might have avoided the bad feelings._______________Placed an order online and selected curbside delivery (mobility issues). Got a text at 10:18AM that my order was ready for curbside pickup. Arrived at 11:10AM and called the number given in the text. Got a recorded greeting to leave a message but then got an announcement the mailbox was full, and then the call was disconnected. I texted back asking if I should try another number, but got no response. I returned at 12:02PM, same thing. I sent a text to cancel the order and refund my card. It is now 1:29PM and still nothing. So disappointing.

My favorite part of this place is how much you can feel the love the owners have for cats. Ive visited on several occasions and their rescue cats always seem to be as calm and agreeable as cats ever get, which is astounding considering how challenging it can be to get any two random cats to cohabit peacefully - much less a dozen or two or more cats in an environment that is full of strangers and strange smells!Managing a place like this truly takes a commitment to learning each cats language and needs. I feel more confident supporting this place than many other rescue operations. I know many people have their hearts in the right place, but it takes so much time and focus to not let issues snowball. Yet as far as Ive seen, the people here are doing really, really well at consistently helping and healing so many of our feline friends. 💜

After reading some negative comments about the Cat Shoppe, I could not disagree more with these reviews. The Cat Shoppe has only the best interest of the cats at heart, and my experience there over the past year has been amazing; they have gone above and beyond in supporting me and my cat that I adopted from them. Over the past few years I had gone to the Cat Shoppe here and there to visit the cats and purchase some novelty toys for my two cats at home. Then last March, I found a kitten (who was later named Willie) outside of a Goodwill store and the first thing I thought of was to call the Cat Shoppe for advice on what to do. Since the Goodwill is nearby the Cat Shoppe, they immediately sent three people--an employee, a volunteer, and even a customer--to rescue Willie, a very difficult process that took an hour and a half. Willie was taken to the Cat Shoppe to be socialized and receive his medical care (they take all of their rescues to the vet before they can be adopted). However, since I rescued him, I had a strong attachment to him and ended up adopting him after visiting him almost daily and carefully discussing with the owner whether Willie would be a good fit for my two cats at home (which I appreciated, because I was concerned about upsetting their dynamic as well). After I adopted Willie, we found out that he had a bad dental condition that needed to be treated, but the Cat Shoppe gave me support and covered many of my vet bills for his treatment, and even offered to help me pay for his tooth surgery (though I decided to pay for it myself since it wasnt as expensive as I originally thought). Every single time I go into the Cat Shoppe, the employees and volunteers greet me by name and ask for an update on Willie. They give me advice when I need it and are so kind and supportive. Yes, sometimes the owner can seem distracted, as she has many cats to care for and the shop is often bustling with activity. However, there has never been a moment where she has been rude, dismissive, or condescending. I now exclusively shop at the Cat Shoppe and will continue to do so as long as I live in Nashville. They are an incredible non-profit organization and always have the cats interests at heart.

Our first encounter with The Cat Shoppe was in 1997 when it was still located in Green Hills. After our loving lap cat Jelly Bean went to Rainbow Bridge we didn’t think we would ever find another cat that was so sweet but we called Chris and asked for her help. She called back that very day and gave us the name of a lady that had a cat we might be interested in. Sure enough it was a perfect match and the lady lived right here in our own complex! Since then we have visited the Cat Shoppe on numerous occasions and purchased many unique gifts for others, our cats and of course for ourselves. Chris has taken quite a few kittens that were found on our property through the years and not too long ago she rescued a tiny orange kitten that was scared and hiding between sandbags not far from our house. She has also helped us with information on the trapping of feral cats in the TRAP, NEUTER, RETURN solution, and supplied us with the traps. No matter what kind of a “mood” we are in we can go to the “enchanted cat palace”, and feel great by the time we leave. Petting and playing with the cats and kittens has a very comforting effect, and the owner, other staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful. Whatever we need or want we can find it at the Cat Shoppe - cat food, gifts, cat toys, grooming needs, clothing, etc. and there are many cats/kittens for adoption. If they do not have it they do their best to get it for you. Take meowouttttttt to the cat shop! Thanks! Mary Ann & Sue

I adopted my cat from this store in March 2018. My fiance and I were shopping around for a cat. The PetSmart in Nasvhille works with the Nashville Cat Rescue (if I remember correctly). We didnt bond with any cats there, but an employee recommended The Cat Shoppe. The cat we eventually adopted was the first one we interacted with there. Aside from having our wonderful cat, these are awesome ladies. They are champions for cats in the area. They were very helpful in turning on to healthier foods to feed our cat and environmentally friendly litter. Great service and good prices. Lastly, its always fun to stop in and pick up products because you get to meet the new cats roaming around the shop.

Highly recommend- knowledgeable staff loves cats (and dogs), supports local businesses, carries top quality products at fair prices. many of the stores cats and kittens are available for adoption. however, I was surprised and disappointed by them on our last visit. we brought our shy and (very) little girls into the store, (there was only 1 other customer in the store) who had never been around cats, and immediately they became quite cold and instead of making it a kind, friendly, teachable moment, it was obvious the children were not welcome at all, no matter how well behaved and carefully supervised they were. otherwise, I really like the owner and staff.

Can we say crazy cat lady(or shop)?!?! We went to look for a companion for our kitten and were immediately interrogated from the moment we walked through the door. We walked around the shop and found the cat we thought would be perfect. Robin asked question after question. We answered honestly not knowing it was her way of trying to find any reason not to allow us to adopt. Our downfall was that we stated we would eventually let our cat mainly be an inside cat with access to outside. She didnt like that answer. When my husband pleasantly stated that we could change our stance on the matter she argued with us, berated us, and was condescending. We immediately left. For people who state they want to rescue cats, it sure seems like they just want to hoard them. They speak as if they are experts but the propaganda they promote is purely opinion and not proven. Save yourself the time and rescue elsewhere.

Super great, helpful people. They have high standards for adoption which can seem annoying, but really, they just want all of the cats that come through their rescue to have the best possible life. I adopted a sweet male kitten from them to join my 2-year-old female cat after my roommate and her cat moved out. They were helpful in the whole process, and gave me some really great tips during the home visit. My cats are healthy and happy thanks to some of the tips theyve given me. They only carry the best food, and will help you find something that is the best fit for your pet. Cant recommend this place more!

We have been shopping here for over a year and every time has been a pleasure! We wanted to get our 2 male cats on a better diet but one is a very picky eater. I walked out with so many free samples of different foods to try until I found one they would both eat which was great. When we wanted to bring a third cat into our home we adopted from the Cat Shoppe. Our youngest cat is such a joy but needed some work being socialized and the Cat Shoppe was there every step of the way. If we had questions they were just a call away with great advice and we have seen so much improvement with her. I would recommend this store for any true cat lover!

If I could give less than a star I would. I was yelled at for several minutes over the phone by a lady at the store when I asked if there were any vacancies for kittens. She berated me for not catching the mother years ago. She said I was negligent and many other niceties. She wouldnt let me explain anything and assumed I didnt care.I live in East Nashville where stray and very feral cats run rampant. A stray always has kittens in my yard, because she knows its safe. I try to catch her and her kittens every year. I have a humane trap, but she is really too smart for it. I tame, housebreak and socialize them before finding them homes where I know they will be well cared for and fixed. I have 3 cats, all strays. There is really no room at the inn. I am willing to foster her. I just wondered if they could help find her a home. Where she can get all the attention she deserves. And so my cats can have a break from a litter of kittens. But I didnt get a word in while she was on her soap box. Maybe she needed a rant. But Im really glad this little kitten didnt end up there.

Im a huge animal lover and supporter of animal rescues. I rescued two kittens and called the cat-shoppe to see if they could take them and they could not. I kept the kittens and nursed them back to health. One kitten needed surgery and needed one eye removed but the vet was able to save the other eye. Ive paid for them all out of pocket. I went in to let the lady know that the kittens were doing better, and she had the audacity to question my vet and shake her head at me as if I didnt just save this animals life. I get that she works at the cat-shoppe but she does not have a vet degree. She had no idea about the kittens condition, etc. I thought she would be excited to know that I saved these kittens lives, I didnt just decide to euthanize them. Its unfortunate that this lady is so rude to customers because I enjoy the cat-shoppe and what it does...but Ill probably never go back there.

I was told I couldnt adopt one cat, I had to adopt 2. since I already had two at home. They need to go in pairs...cat experts this and youre going to cause problems that - do yourself a favor and adopt from people who would be grateful that a cat even gets a nice home. Ive worked in shelters my whole life, Im a cat groomer and cat welfare advocate. They would have been lucky to have me adopt from them. This place is amazing! The proceeds go to caring for and getting the cats adopted. No other pet food place in Nashville is out there to actually save cats. This place is for animal lovers. It is a non-profit. If you are animal lover, you shop there. The reason that this place has a few bad reviews is that the people who work there want to find a lifelong home for the cats and people have brought pets back too many times. Hence, you have to excuse their questions, etc. They are just trying to protect the animals. Think about their great work before writing anymore bad reviews. Talk about feeling unwanted. I went to the cat shoppe in order to adopt two kittens (not knowing you have to adopt two). I didnt read anywhere that cat will not be adopted to families that have children under 5 (But since my eldest is 4 and a girl somehow this is ok). The woman at the register (the owner I assume) did not seem to want to speak to me and every time I asked about a specific cat I was told that he couldnt be adopted because he would be scared to death being around a young child.... as my child is playing with him. But I digress, I felt unwelcome and I most likely will never go there again. Which is a pity because there are plenty of beautiful cats looking for a home.

Sure, the people at the Cat Shoppe can be a bit abrasive, and have very strong opinions on a few controversal aspects of cat ownership. But they do everything in their power to ensure that all the cats that pass though end up in great, loving homes, and will go out of their way to help you with any issues that may arise. In the end, the best interests of the kitties are always #1 here, which is the way it should be. I adopted my darling kitty from here, and they gave me almost everything I needed to settle him in. It was great when I adopted him because I was specifically looking for a single adult cat who would be fine on his own, and they knew exactly whinch one of their cats would be a perfect fit for my situation. Furthermore, they have a great selection of grain-free and specialty foods and will give you samples so you can easily find the best fit for your cat. My guy is a picky eater and needs a grain-free diet, so that was really helpful. If you are looking for a cat, I definitely recommend the Cat Shoppe.

There is no better place to shop for the most interesting and unique items for your pet. Having cats in house that are adoptable is an extra reason to visit. What these folks do to rescue discarded cats is amazing. I have adopted two cats from them many years ago and they were treasures. Also, they are current on their specialty interactive toys - the sturdy fishing pole with the most tantalizing mouse on it is my pick. They know what cats like. The Dog Store is just the icing on the cake! The layout is great having two separate stores connected by a door. There is not another store in middle TN that can compare. The owner is a cat is what I always say. She is brilliant on cat behaviors and anything cat. I am probably Chris Achords biggest fan. She helped me start my petsitting business 20 years ago by advising and referrals. Now she and I both share the love of rescue. Again advising me. I sit at her feet and learn. DO NOT GO HERE!My friend adopted two kittens from The Cat Shoppe. After adopting them found out they had fleas and worms. She footed the bill and made sure to take care of them but also made sure to call The Cat Shoppe to inform them of this so they could check the other cats and the owner sounded like she could care less. Also, they make house calls on you to check on the cats! Seven months after adopting them, one of the employees called her to ask if she could come see one of the cats because she had fostered them and wasnt there to say goodbye when they were adopted. Said it was not a house call or inspection. The lady then came into her home and basically told my friend she was raising the cats completely wrong saying the food she was feeding them was bad and even went so far as to say what she named one of her cats was dumb.Last week she got a letter demanding $1000 ($500 per cat) in damages to the Cat Shoppe because she declawed the cats. This has taught me never to go to an adoption center like this, and to never let anybody in my house from a place I adopt them from.*** To be clear, I did not adopt from here. My friend did. I have looked at the contract that was signed and yes it does say that she was not supposed to declaw the cats. But circumstances came up and that decision had to be made. My friend is a great cat owner. I have visited her and the cats many times and they are perfect kittens. She took care of them when she found out they had fleas and worms right after adoption - did not complain to the cat shoppe just informed them of the health concerns for other cats there. I am sure they are kind people there at the Cat Shoppe but to have a lady come to your house 7 months after adoption and pretty much verbally assault you is enough to tell me that I would not want to adopt a pet from there. I will go to PetCo or the Humane Society where I will not be accosted because I dont use a certain brand of food. ****

I had been to this place a few times and enjoyed my experience; I had positive outlook on this place until I went in to adopt a cat. THIS REVIEW IS ONLY ON MY EXPIERENCE WITH ATTEMPTING TO ADOPT, THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO BUY CAT FOOD AND HANDMADE TOYS. Now that thats out of the way, adopting was terrible. I had contacted TCS on a cat I saw on Petfinder, I questioned the cats personality, and since he had been there for a while I asked why hadnt he been adopted out. I was told that this cat is overlooked mainly due to age but he is very sweet, social, and could be held. I asked if I could bring my dog (with the knowledge that he has to be kept on the dog side of the shop) and they encouraged me to since they werent sure if the cat in question had been exposed to dogs. So, I go in and being someone with me to watch my dog on the dog side of the shop while I go over to the cat side and meet the cat I wanted to adopt. As Im waiting in line to talk to the owner, she starts freaking out over a dangerous dog in her shop and how hes going to attack the cats. Now, keep in mind, this is a dog thats no bigger than an actual cat and I had actually stated in the email what time I would arrive and what my dog looks like and his breed. According to my friend, a cat actually lunged at my dogs behind and yes, my dog yelped, but just walked away from the cat. Dont know why they had CATS on the DOG side of the shop but they did. Anyway, finally get to meet the cat I wanted to adopt and hes nothing like I was told he is. He is very anti social, doesnt want anything to do with a human, much less other cats. I was handed his favorite treats and told to find him, I find him under the shelves cat food are held, and when I sit down, I rest my hand in a massive pile of cat pee. I gave a volunteer there a heads up and she told me to ignore it. I look and notice theres cat pee all over a bag of cat food on the shelf for sale and also the floor. I shouldve looked but since the bathroom holds 6 litter boxes, I didnt think it would be an issue. The cats trainer comes in (sorry Im not using the cats name, dont want his chances of adoption to be any lower due to my review) and its literally the only person he approaches... Slightly. Apparently the man had been working with this cat for 3 months and just by me sitting 6 feet away from the man spooked the cat enough not to come near. We also learned that the cat could NOT be picked up and thats a huge deal breaker since we baby all of our cats. Actually, the trainer told us to go to petsmart since we just couldnt be satisfied. So thats what we did! We went to petsmart and got a 3 month old tabby :)Basically the reason why this review is so low is that the fact I was lied to and how I was constantly being pressured to adopt a cat that wouldnt be good for my family. Being told to ignore cat pee thats all over the floor and cat food for sale is extremely unsanitary and grossed me out. Also, I didnt appreciate the fact how my dog was talked about even though he was just laying there while a cat sniffed him. I feel really bad for the cat I couldnt adopt though, honestly TCS is so busy and filled with cats that place may not be idea for him to be in. In fact, it probably caused him to have anxiety. Oh well, I really do hope he gets adopted one day!

If I could give no star, I would. They wont allow you to adopt a kitten unless you adopt two, however you may adopt only one adult cat. I went in with my husband and was pleased to see many adorable kittens, however, someone soon informed me that I would have to either take an adult cat or two kittens, because kittens require so much attention that they wouldnt let them be adopted by themselves. The workers were rude and condescending. They patiently informed me that Kittens grow up to be cats, you know. Thanks.Fortunately, I found the worlds most adorable 12-week-old tortie at Petsmart. One year later, she is spoiled, receives a ton of attention, and is one of the sweetest kitties around. I dont think shed be better off had we gotten two -- there is lots of research that suggests that domestic cats are not made to be social or pack animals and there fore do not prefer having another feline in the home.Shopping there was an incredibly frustrating experience.
