The flavors of these roasts are insanely good! So good that I thought Id try a bag of espresso beans for home use - and equally impeccable. I love this coffee shop and great baristas/care for the customer 🙌🏽
Peculiar little place. Their chai latte packs a punch!
Great coffee, but only 3 tiny tables outside. Employees wont speak to you, so I wasnt thrilled with the service. You arent allowed to use the restroom. Good for takeout but not for meeting anyone, like my Coffee Club.
My favorite place to grab some espresso sometimes.I love their queer-friendly atmosphere.Older reviews say that it cash-only, but I regularly pay with card now
What a Mountain View gem. So fortunate to have an independently owned, friendly coffee shop in town. So glad theyve stuck it through the pandemic
Great espresso drinks, affordable and tasty beans, very friendly staff
DSRC is my favorite coffee place in Mountain View. Espresso drinks are good. The coffee is very good. The people are great. We make a special trip every weekend to grab some coffee there. Its great supporting local small businesses and like the sign says friends dont let friend drink Starbucks.
The best espresso on Castro Street at the best price! Awesome selection of espresso drinks too: they have the standards, plus flavored drinks like a Mexican Mocha. Not the most fancy digs, I like the review that described it as more hippie than hipster (its a compliment). The older woman who works there seems a bit unpleasant/angry.Updated: the espresso/macchiato are perfect. Iced Americano is very light, almost floral (?), not too bitter. The Mexican Mocha is a bit too sweet so Ill probably stick with the plainer drinks, it still tasted good though.
They have good specialty coffee menu if you are looking for something different than the usual. And their biscotti selection, yum!
By far the best espresso in the area; great for beans as well
Bad service .. not even a smile .. bad cappuccino
I really like the taste of their coffee. In my mind its best around. I usually go and get a cup of latte during lunch break. Makes my afternoon feel better. Although sometimes its hard to find parking in Mountain View downtown, it cant stop me. :)
Not only really great coffee, but during this pandemic Nick is delivering fresh roasted coffee locally. What a special service! Sure makes it easy to support this terrific local small business.
Fantastic little cafe near busy Castro street. Very helpful and friendly staff. Have a tasty caffeinated beverage without the hustle n bustle of the usual Silicon Valley vibe- this cafe is much more relaxed and isnt glossed over with the sort of pretentious feeling you get at other cafes. Very down to earth place to grab a hand made cup of Joe.
I used to live downtown Mt. View and for the last 20 years Dana Street Roasting Company has been consistently good for coffee and other drinks.I love their dark roasted Costa Rica beans. My wife is a fan of their Chia latte.I have even seen great jazz at the DSRC. Thanks Nick.
I always take Soya latte and extra hot at Starbucks. So I asked same here too, however the person at counter suggested to try oat milk, he told that extra hot doesn’t go well with Soya but with oat milk. He was very right, I never tried this. It was awesome 👍Now my preference will be always oat milk over Soya milk🙂 I have lactose intolerance.
- Excellent coffee- Multiple choices among decaf beans- Beans with recent roast dates- Exemplary customer service- Covid-19 protocols maintained
Service depends on who is at the register; sometimes the person is friendly and smiling, sometimes the person is rude/silent/wont acknowledge youre there.
I love living near an independent coffee shop. Some drinks, like Cafe Borgia, arent carried by chains or many other coffee shops. Seasonal drinks and pastries are on point too. They have a year round tiramisu that I prefer over what I can get at italian restaurants. They take cards, but try to remember to bring some cash for tip. I have the impression that there isnt a super high turn over in staff, which is great.
Love this place, coffee here is so good.
Great place to buy some fresh beans with amazing service!
Love this place. Top notch real people making real coffee.
This place pretty big with lots of space to work and grab some good coffee. Its kind of hard to spot but once you come here you wont forget it! I came here since I was craving a hazelnut latte close to work and they delivered! Perfect amount of sweet and just enough espresso, I will definitely come back to try the rest of their drinks on their extensive menu. Also, price point is much better than most of the coffee shops out there!
Great coffee and quaint ambience. I used to frequent DSRC when I lived in Mountain View and Sunnyvale. I still get beans when I drive by.
Bad service, very rude to customers.
Great coffee, friendly staff. They take care now, but bring cash for tip (atm in the back of you forget).
Taking time to update this review with more detail... This is our favorite coffee spot ever (worldwide), especially for that perfect latte. The owner knows and cares about roasting to perfection - enjoy the shots or take the beans home! The staff is friendly and welcoming, even with the difficulties COVID poses. Support this awesome local business and enjoy the brew!
Love to get coffee beans here. Indulge in a lovely breve once in awhile. Chai latte is less sweet, more spicy, which is perfect for me. Have gotten great answers for any questions Ive had.
Excellent coffee - so much variety! The really small 8 oz option is welcome as it lets you try out all the options. Tasty sandwiches and salads to boot. Friendly ambience with plenty of seating inside and out. Cash only. Highly recommend!
Always the best coffee in the South Bay!!
Loved their coffee, and the spacious shop. Pretty busy in the mornings and a bit quieter during lunch time. Its cheaper than other coffee shops, but they only take cash. The indoors gets a bit warm in the morning, as it seems they dont turn on the AC til the afternoon. There are a couple of tables outside as well.
This is a surprising find. Its a little unclear how Ive overlooked this place after visiting mountain view so many times. Items reasonably priced and stuff was served as fast as I would expect it. Live music was a nice touch and really seems like this almost doesnt belong in mountain view. Some of the lattes they have on their menu were surprising and delicious. I absolutely love the banana mocha. Ill definitely be back again anytime Im jonesing for some caffeine near Castro
Their classic drinks are high quality and the staff are so nice to me and my puppy :)
Nice cuppa joe
Been going to Dana Street Roasting for longer than I care to remember. The coffee here is far superior to other coffee shops almost anywhere. These guys have control over the freshness of the beans since they roast it here them themselves. (The most common issue with coffee roasting in My opinion is not knowing when to stop the roasting process and ending in an over-roasted bean. This makes the coffee acidic and burned flavored.) (Think Starbucks and Petes although they have been getting better) Here the beans are roasted to perfection resulting in a great cup of Coffee / Espresso. Also this is not some corporate store. It is locally owned and managed by the owner. That by far is much better than any of the commercial coffees available.Love the sign; Friends dont let friends go to Starbucks :)
Very good cappuccino breve (with half and half). Found a table quickly, but the room was pretty full; a good sign. Only problem was the room was too warm.
Not friendly at all - won’t even say hello! Geez :(
I think Dana Street roasting company is my favorite coffee shop in all of Mountain View. Sure, Ive had better coffee out of town, but when Im not traveling, this is where I go for my caffeine addiction. Coffee here is tasty and reasonably priced. I would argue that the place has great ambience. It feels local, no frills, and down to earth, unlike those fancy, carefully decorated but overpriced cafes in the bay area.
A fairly good local coffee shop. Good coffee and pastries, and the beans they roast are second to none. Prices are about average for the area and they have a very laid back vibe.Been going here off and on for almost 20 years, and they have unfortunately been slowly going down hill. Used to have live music, the uke jam once a month, and extended hours so I can only give them 3 stars. Hopefully this will change, as it was once easily the best coffee shop in the area.
My favorite coffee roasters in the bay. You get a free cup with every 1lb purchase of coffee beans. They will also grind it to any size you want. They usually have a few different varieties in stock. If you are heading there for just a cup, they also make a great flat white!
Delicious coffee, friendly baristas, and a cool atmosphere, where you can watch the process of roasting which i find to be very cool. Its my favorite go to coffee shop in the bay area!
Built like an 80s place, the ambience is true to the word.. From old coffee roasting machines to to the wooden furniture, no ac and accepting only cash, its definitely a good place to sip their absolutely amazing coffee! :)
Theres something extremely eclectic and personable about Dana Street Roasting that I really really love. It is something old world and beautiful - and so much missing from the everyday quick-fix chain coffee shops. For example, a large percent of the patrons at Dana Street Roasting do not bring their laptops, which is usually unheard of in the Silicon Valley. Instead, neighbors sit and chat, sip their coffees, and read a newspaper or two.I enjoy the cappuccino here and Im a tough critic. Although I havent order the house coffee, I have heard wonderful things.Amidst our hustle and bustle world, Dana Street Roasting is a perfect example of a neighborhood cafe that is not to be missed.
Nice little shop with roasting on premises. Super casual. Its the kind of Bohemian coffee shop thats serious coffee drinkers gravitated towards before Starbucks took over the world with their iced coffee milkshakes
Really simple, really cozy. Good place to get work done. The interior can get pretty warm at times, so I like to sit away from the windows.
Relaxed coffee house. Not one of those pretentious ones. Phew. Good coffee.
Dana Street is a Community Center that happens to be a coffee shop. The *people* in the local Mountain View community are the only reason to go there. I have been going here for 20 years. Nine out of ten times I go, I have an interesting, intelligent conversation with someone. This is how you visit Dana Street:1) Have nothing to do2) Order whatever, it doesnt matter, its all average fare. Thats not what you are there for. Joke with staff, they are usually responsive to that.3) Sit with other people, hopefully at the big table or outside at a table, so you can chat.4) Strike up a conversation, get to know them. They are interesting.5) If there are musicians playing, enjoy them. If you are a musician, bring an instrument and play around with it outside, someone will probably join you.Rinse. Repeat.
Wonderful staff welcomes you with a smilecappuccinos made expertly every timelive jazz on Sundays make for a gorgeous ambience
Amazing place to get coffee. Whether its the standard drip coffee or something a little more colorful such as the Mexican mocha, you wont be disappointed. The atmosphere is very relaxed and different from the high strung feeling on gets when going to your local Starbucks. Prices are very reasonable and the available pastries and such are great too!
For food hacked together in a small back room, they do a damn good job. Coffee is on par with the bay area. This place is charming, but the WiFi may or may not work on any given day and the power outlets may or may not be live any given day. My understanding is that the owner is cheap, but somehow manages to run a quaint coffee establishment... quaint enough that its my top recommendation for Mountain View coffee shops.
DSRC, like the typical sit-in coffee shop in Mountain View and Palo Alto, is becoming less a caffeine “fill up station,“ than a haven for techo-commuters using the free WiFi. The coffee cannot be faulted; refills are inexpensive; amenities are provided. It is within easy walking distance of the Caltrain station. Going regularly, one starts recognizing the diverse appeal of each of the baristi and bariste, who can choose the music that is played.Good quality food including desert, drinks including smoothies, if one dollar too expensive, is provided from a handwritten menu, though it hasn´t varied for years.Ambience is lacking -- if one discounts a HUGE coffee roaster that takes up one-fifth of the seating area, and a riser for the occasional musical performance; however, there are toys for the children and board games, newspapers, and circulars for adults. TWO spacious, handicapped-accessible bathrooms are notable, and are always clean.Perhaps I am biased, being a participant in a ukulele jam event held monthly at DSRC, but who can find fault in such a place, for the image of the area stuffed with 50 ukulele players and staff, all with stupid grins on their faces?
This is my absolute favorite coffee place in the area! They are always so nice and accommodating: from needing only half my beans ground to fixing my drinks when I forget to ask for half sweet (yes, Im a bit high maintenance, I know), these guys are always great!Their espresso is amazing and the peanut butter cookies are to die for 🤩
Coffee very good. On-site roaster. Ensure you have a lot of time when you ask questions about coffee beans. They know too much about beans.... Their day-old stuff is fine. Ambience a bit rustic, but OK. I think they also have live bands on calendar.
I just picked up a pound of the Sumatra and the Costa Rica light and mixed them together. Wow! What a great combo, but the roasting skill really becomes apparent. Nick has done a fabulous job with the roasting and everything about coffee.Just wish I could get beans this good here in AZ.
Wonderful place. The owner is very friendly and down to earth, and I love that this place is not full of people on their computers. You can actually go here to read or socialize. The one downside is the kitchen isnt open in the morning. And its cash-only!
Very nice place a nice service
We tried the tiramisu pastry and it was delicious. Definitely going back for more
I believe there are two main factors that go into making a good coffee, and Dana Street Roasting Company nails them. Since were talking about coffee, of course your beans play a key role in a good tasting cup; of course, just like everyone will have an opinion on what their favorite wine/winery is, Im sure folks will agree/disagree with my tastes. The second and I think the most important part in all of this are the baristas. At Dana Street Roasting Company, Ive had nothing but exceptional and consistent coffee. The two that Ive had and would recommend would be the Hazelnut Latte, and the Mint Mocha. The latter is my favorite!
I spent a lot of time here in my unemployed days, and I still make a weekly pilgrimage. Great place to grab inexpensive coffee and food, work quietly or chat with other friendly patrons.Their pastries seem less sugary than other places. I love the bran muffins.
Nothing like freshly roasted and ground coffee for your latte. I found Dana Street RC the first week I moved to Silicon Valley. It is unassuming, maybe to a fault, though it never ceases to be busy. The coffee and espresso are rich, wonderful, and satisfying. The latte isnt a work of art, but its rich, almost chewy mouthfeel will keep you coming back for more. Besides, at $2.70 after tax, its well worth it.I wish the pastry counter were a little more diverse and fully stocked. Otherwise, its a great spot.
Great coffee. Great service. The go-to neighborhood coffee shop.
THE local coffee roasting company in Mountain View. Casual atmosphere with sidewalk seating or sit inside near the San Fransiscan coffee roaster that roasted the coffee you are about to enjoy. Consistently turning out tasty roasts of coffee to drink or take with you by the pound, we really enjoy this neighborhood roastery. I had the Guatemala light roast and we picked up a couple desserts to take home for later. The Guatemala was just right, light and sweet all by itself. The place was busy but the service was quick and super friendly. They only take cash or check but there is an ATM conveniently located inside. This is definitely our favorite coffee spot in Mountain View. Be sure to have a look at the antique Royal coffee roasters on display.
Superb coffee. Grind wasnt as course as Id like though, hence one less star. Will definitely go again.
If you dont like going to gentrifying coffee shops that charge $5 a cup, this is your spot. I usually get an espresso which is fantastic. Its been around for over 20 years by the same family (I think I read that somewhere). A good ol fashioned cafe that is very tough to find in Silicon Valley nowadays.
Located a few steps off the main strip, this is a great place to get away from the crowds and enjoy cup of coffee.
Overall its a nice place. I dont really like their decor and not sure what I actually like about the place, but I keep coming and love spending my time inside on a weekend morning.– Nice and cheap coffee– Nice house blend coffee! Less bitter than RedRock and not as expensive– Its a nice place to meet or work– On weekend evenings you can expect live music from a local band
Hole in the wall coffee roaster. I go back there every time I am up North because I like their coffee beans a lot. A bag of coffee beans also come with free coffee. Cant say much about the place itself. I have only been there to purchase coffee beans.
We love the coffee and the fact that we can walk our dogs and sit outside (with all of the other dog owners). They keep dog treats behind the counter so your pups can have a little something while youre sipping on your wonderful cup of coffee. Dana Street Roasting is just eclectic enough to be cool! Its a great find in downtown Mountain View.
I love the coffee and ambiance, and I really enjoy just curling up with a mocha and a pastry and getting some work done, but between the power outlets frequently being turned off and the cafe frequently closing early if things are a bit slow.Unfortunately that means that if I want a place to enjoy the coffee while I get some work done, it means I have to go elsewhere.Id love to see Dana Street do well, but with its unreliable hours and the boss decision to make it difficult for people to do work there, it means that a lot of people go to Red Rock instead, despite Red Rocks dismal coffee.
I get whole roasted coffee beans here so this rating is specifically for their roasted beans. The beans are fresh roasted and make delicious French press and pour over coffee. They have a wonderful variety of beans and the beans are are more affordable than other sellers in the area.
Great coffee and a good size space. Theres free WiFi but not a lot of power outlets. Its definitely a good place to refuel and get a bit of work done, at least until your batteries run low (or you manage to get a table near an outlet).
Coffee, which they lead with, is only so so. Mostly light roasts, the coffee lacks depth. The strongest on offer was a house roast, a blend of Columbian, Sumatra and an African bean, medium roast. Not terribly imaginative. The quiche waa excellent.
This is a great little coffee shop. They roast coffee fresh their daily, mostly light roasts and the coffee is easily comparable to other gourmet roasters in the bay area, although it is much closer to me.They also provide great customer service: I recently bought a pound of coffee beans which turned out to be roasted a bit darker than I like, and I brought the bag back the next day and they were happy to switch out for a different variety of beans. They even said next time I can ask to sample a bean from different varieties to work out which of the current batches i would like. :)
Staff is always friendly. This coffee shop has been the best coffee shop downtown, for many years! My favorite coffee shop that has Thai coffee on the menu. Love it!... However, there is one employee that can NEVER make the drink correctly. She could redo it and still, it comes out like water...💁🏻♀️
I was visiting from Australia. While my friend was working I made Dana St Cafe my go to place to hang out. I had Great coffee while writing in my journal, posting on social media and general people watching. Im sad to be leaving tomorrow.
Loved the lived in look. No fancy decor, just coffee, yummy treats and a big roaster. Prices vary fair.
Great coffee, roasted on premises. Friendly, small business, occasional events. Only problem? Cant sit there because theres never enough room. Forget about going to have coffee there on a weekend morning, too many people camped out
Not sure about this location. The coffee is mediocre and the pastries are unexciting -- a tad better than the Costco ones. The staff is responsive but nothing more than that. Seems like it has a regular crowd and has been a staple in the neighborhood for a long time. I just do not find this joint to be competitive -- mediocre and less than average everything (coffee, food, ambiance, staff, etc.). Perhaps its cheaper than other joints so I respect that.Probably wont return.
I love this place. But Im biased because I grew up in Mountain View and now that I dont live in MV anymore I have to come back back for a visit when Im in town. It feeds my soul and reminds me of old school Mountain View in the. I love that it has not changed.
One of my favorite coffee shops. The place is spacious, there is usually couple of tables on the sidewalk as well. I love their espresso drinks.
Its original. A very chill atmosphere. The staff is cool.
Cozy laid back place with a good variety of in house roasted coffees. The cappuccino was very well done but the coffee itself was just good not spectacular. The service was great as was overall experience.
Great place for coffee and a pastry.Quick heads up that its cash only. That being said they have an ATM and multiple banks are walking distance
It is like walking into the 90s when you walk into the Dana Street roasters. These guys still have body piercings and are listening to the pixies. Coffee is good and they give you a free brewed cup when you buy a pound of beans. I also kinda liked the 90s.
Simple coffee house with a laid back decor. Their coffee is very good, as are the other coffee drinks that Ive tried there. There is also occasional live music performances, which is great, but the awkward positioning of the band means you walk in front of them when you open the front door. Also, they are Cash-Only, so be prepared or use the ATM in the back.
