The Horse as my friends and I call it is a great place to chill and play. The employees are fantastic and really kind and help you out with anything from magic to comics. They let me know when the newest issues are in and help me find whatever cards I may need. T and the owner Ron help me find stuff in record time and really know magic like the back of their hand. If it’s casual or Friday night magic playing there is fun and the atmosphere they make with the people and music is super inviting.

My wife and I have always loved coming to this store, and never had any issues whatsoever. Staff has always been friendly and pricing was reasonable (preorders are always cheaper than regular purchases). With the shortage of inventory and also the issue of resellers, I do not have a problem with stores raising their prices slightly above MSRP. But what I have experienced a couple days ago was enough for me to say, that I will no longer give this store my business.I placed a preorder for the celebrations set and requested 2 of every item. When I received the first preorder on release day, every item was marked up over MSRP and seemed higher than usual. It was high enough for me to call the store back and ask for a breakdown by item. While each item seemed to have been raised a little bit in price, I was shocked when I found out that they doubled the price on the Lance’s Charizard V box.Yesterday I picked up my second half of the preorder, two ultra premium boxes and two pikachu vmax figure collection boxes. The ultra premium boxes were $250 ($120 retail) and the pikachu vmax boxes were $100-$119 can’t recall exact price (retail is $49.99). When I asked to just get the premium boxes and not take the pikachu vmax figures, I didn’t have that option. I had to purchase all 4 items or none, which I absolutely didn’t understand. If you’re upcharging an item by that much on a preorder, I assume the store believes that they can sell it for the same price to another customer, if not for even more than that, as they always charge less for preordered items?! I don’t want to make any accusations but everyone can form their own opinion on why you make someone purchases all items or none, where one item is very exclusive and not easily to come by, and the other is available in bulk at target or Walmart for $49.99 and even on eBay for $70-$80.While $130 over retail seems very high, I was more than willing to pay $250 for the premium box. At that price it makes reselling a lot less profitable for people, but it is still low enough for collectors to get their value back. What I absolutely disagree with is charging double or more than double for items that are readily available at retail stores and still cheaper when purchased from individual reseller online. That is not behavior I expect from a store that is all about the community and the hobby.

Went to Four Horsemen on Monday October 4 with my husband and told the guy running the register we were interested in buying Pokémon cards and he handed us the price list (keep in mind you legally have to sell an item at the price you have listed at-otherwise if you don’t it is called False Advertising) after we looked at the list and figured out all the cards we wanted we told the guy we’d be dropping a few hundred dollars on cards and had him pull out all the cards we wanted. After he did that I had to walk back to the car to get the debit card we forgot and when I made it back my husband told me how the guy said he had to “update the prices” and the price went up on all the cards. A $10 card went to $60. So we left and never came back. I will never give this place my money after what happened I’d much rather go on TCG player and get my cards because at least the site won’t try and scam me.

Went in for free comic book day only to see that Four Horsemen has monetized that as much as possible. They had a table set up that had $1 signs all around it with a mixture of trade paperbacks and single issues all from the last decade or so. In total I picked up 9 items for what I assumed would be a little over $9 only to be rung up for $44 and change! When I tried to explain to the cashier that I had gotten everything from the $1 table all he could say was that the paperbacks werent a dollar but he could see how that could be confusing... I wish Garys was still around, they atleast tried to treat their customers well.

My fiance and I decided to stop in on the way back to Martinsburg from Charleston. We have been collecting comic books for a couple of years now and we have to say that Four Horsemen hands down takes the trophy for organization, cleanliness and overall upkeep of their comics. Ive been to stores where Ive had to sift through boxes that had no organization at all.Four Horsemen provides a much different experience. Theyre honest in their conditions and pricings of the books, and their organization and storage is fantastic! The pull out cabinets provide an excellent experience searching through various runs and overall feels much more organized and clean. They also have amazing staff. We were helped by Sam who was extremely friendly. We were unsure of where to start in the store and after telling him that we had never been there, he explained the layout of the store and directed us where we were looking.Overall, very happy with the pulls I found and the pricing and staff. Will definitely be stopping again!

I saw on another reply they mentioned only older Pokémon being above MSRP… When did celebrations come out? I went into the store yesterday to see roughly 20 ultra premiums (MSRP 120) being sold for over 250$… and that was the preordered price! I would hate to see what the retail shopper, who just walked into the store, had to pay. That’s outrageous. The first week the 20$ lance charizard boxes were listed for 60$ and etbs 90$. I can’t believe how outlandish those prices are. Mini tins being 15$ too, the list goes on.

Person behind the counter was extremely rude. After making the hour plus drive and asking about the price of an item in the case he told it would take a while to look it up. Then another person came in and they instantly looked up a price for them. The person behind the counter then acted very rude and said the cost was an outrageous amount, as well all the items in there store were above MSRP. *Edit* To the owners reply Im not sure why they told me it would take an hour to look up either. Also if you sell at MSRP or below then why was your Shinning Fates product or most other Pokemon product sold way above MSRP when they released?

Review №41

This is the only local card shop in the area, and their selection for Pokemon (which is what I buy) is pretty decent. The main issue I have experienced is the prices. The prices at this store are extremely too high, especially when it comes to sealed products. A champions path ETB for 100$ (Costs 55$ and sells on TCG 80$ and eBay 70), booster packs for cosmic eclipse and vivid voltage being 8.50 and 7$, and base set sword and shield booster boxes for 200$. Since they get directly from a distributor, this means that they pay retail, go through no hassle of acquiring the product themselves and voluntarily hike up the price to well over scalper levels. Also, their trade in value system being massively underwhelming. They do 60% when trading in towards stuff in the store, but use market value on your item and listing price for their stuff which typically makes it about 20% more value on their end. Also, if the person before traded in 100$ worth of cards and got 40-60$ for it, how does it make sense that I would then have to trade in 165$ worth of cards for the 100$ card assuming that they actually give me 60% of the value??? Overall, I have found that buying and selling items from eBay or directly from TCG player has been much more worth my money, but will hopefully come into the store one day to see that their ways have slightly changed to benefit the local community.Response: I did come in recently and saw a full shelves of Pokemon packaged goods, I asked the worker if you guys were able to get some at Walmart or how did you get so much great products since I had been coming in on a weekly bases for a month now and never seen so much products. He responded You might have to get stuff from Walmart, but we get it straight from the source. which is implying to me that he meant a distributor. If this was the case, why are the 9 ETBs listed at 100$, 45$ over retail, and multiple build and battle decks being 10-20$ over TCG prices? Also, if I am trading in Pokemon cards to get Pokemon cards, lets assume the guy before me also got store credit for his 100$ card so it would be the most unfavorable profit margin for you guys, how does it make sense that I would then have to trade in 165$ towards that card? Thats 100$ profit on an initial 60$ investment. I understand that you have to make money, but that also means that the next guy would then have to trade in 275$ worth of cards to buy the 165$ worth of cards that I just traded in.I dont mean to sound hateful, but I just dont understand why I feel like every time when I come in the scale is heavily tilted towards the guys who claim to be helping the community and not in a way where both sides can benefit.
