Dinner was decent... But not absolutely amazing. My husband had the short ribs and I had the scallop risotto. His was pretty good and mine was just ok. I saw someone else had it but didnt see it on the menu. If I had known the price, I wouldnt have gotten it. Service was not bad- just not outstanding. Im glad we went but it just wasnt as amazing as the other reviews made it seem. The view was really beautiful though- this was our favorite part!
Went to Osteria Al Mare to celebrate a birthday and wedding anniversary. We were told the specials of the day and my husband chose the catch of the day which was swordfish. The fish was amazing. We had appetizers and drinks from bar as well. Everything was delicious but the swordfish was definitely the star of the dinner. Overall a cozy environment with some fresh seafood.
Delicious, I didnt want to stop eating. This is the first time I was ok with eating hot food. I could not wait for the food to cool off it was amazing. Amazing. Absolutely delicious. Everyone was so kind and personable. I loved it. Ill be back for sure.
Pet friendly place that serves delicious meals. The outdoor dining area provides great views of the Monterey bay and the vessels that go out in it. However, it does get very windy and chilly so bring jackets for yourself and your pups. The calamari is solid and always ask about the specials - they are always special :)
Beautiful restaurant right by the marina with a wonderful view of the sunset.Youd think such a place would be a wretched tourist trap, but the food was actually spectacular. Well seasoned and balanced flavors that really let the freshness of the seafood shine. Best clam chowder (not sure why I ordered it at an upscale Italian place of all places but glad that I did!) Ive had in a while and the pasta very nicely cooked.
While the service is a little slow, good food, not crowded, and fantastic views!
A very nice experience. The food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was up beat and fun. A nice view of the harbor and the staff was great.
High praise. One of the best mid/upper class restaurants Ive been to recently. Lots of parking ( pay) close which can be an issue on Cannery Row. Monterey Bay views from many tables.
My fiancé and I have come here several times and typically had good experiences with the quality of food and service. However, tonight we came in and asked to be seated outside and although they were busy, the hostess was able to accommodate us. Unfortunately though, we were only given a single table setting and were never brought menus or visited by the serving staff at all. After 20 minutes I walked in and asked if we could be served and the hostess said she would tell the owner, but we still were never visited by a staff member. I hate to write this review, but after wasting more than a half hour of our Saturday night we are pretty disappointed. Maybe order for pick up if you want to try this spot, thats always worked out.
The food is awesome. My wife and I started ordering to go during the pandemic and always looked forward to it. Now that we’re vaccinated we went to dine in for the first time. TERRIBLE experience. 20 minutes after being seated the waitress still hadn’t even brought menus. I walked up to the hostess to ask if we were supposed to order at the bar or something. She very unapologetically said she would check in with our waitress. We saw who she talked to, waitress still didn’t come. Every time waitress walked past she glanced at us but didn’t stop. For 15 more minutes we watched her serve other tables, seat and take orders and bring food to people who sat after us. We were the only people in the restaurant who did not present as wealthy or white. After that 35 minutes it became clear that they didn’t want us there, so we left and ate somewhere else. Their food is great, and I’m a little sad I’ll never eat it again. Its a mid-scale restaurant that thinks it’s up-scale and clearly only wants to serve a certain demographic. So if you go you dine in, be sure to look the part.
The food might be good. People said it was. They lost our reservation after calling and confirming. The manager was “doing me a favor” giving me a table outside in the cold rain then got mad when we elected to leave. So many place to go eat great food and not have to deal with this kind of ego.
Delicious homemade Italin cusine overlooking the beautiful Marina. Great service as well! I had the short ribs on top of the polenta. The salads are really good as well.
We were walking by from Fishermans Wharf to Cannery Row and decided to try this restaurant, so happy we did. I cannot say enough good things about how wonderful the staff was to my family and I and how amazing the food was. We ordered a few different appetizers which were out of this world, and the main course were scallops as perfect as we have ever had them. I learned later from our charter captain that our host was the owners nephew. He was very gracious and patient with our questions, our order and our kids. When we completed this great meal I had to go to the kitchen to thank the staff for the great food and a wonderful experience, all on my birthday! We cannot wait to go back!
Tried to make reservations and before I could say two words I was hung up on. Told nothing tonight and hung up on me. Wont ever try again. 8 year wedding anniversary shot to heck. Not even an offer if someone cancelled. Next year we head to Santa Barbara. Less rude and more willing to work with you.
What an amazing dinner and experience here! We were recommended from a friend and would definitely recommend to anyone whos looking for amazing Italian seafood with wonderful service. The views are perfect might I add 😉 and the owner Fab is such an excellent host to his restaurant. Go with what he recommends, it wont disappoint. This is going to be my go to spot whenever were in Monterey. Thanks again Fab and staff for the exceptional hospitality.Ilyssa (youre new regular)
Wonderful gourmet Italian. Everything seemed fresh including the polenta. Fresh burrata for my insalata which was the best Ive ever had. The pasta was also fresh and there was plenty of local seafood. Service prompt and attentive. Wine list limited but high quality with enough choice by the glass or bottle. Enjoy the view of the shoreline and bay as a bonus!
Lovely restaurant with friendly service and great food. Recommend going with the fish of the day.
Great food. The deck has heaters so it was nice outside
400.00 dinner for 5 adults. Made reservations, for a special birthday, days in advance and were seated in the back corner of the restaurant. Party of 8 walked in ahead of us, without reservations, and seated in front of the windows. Food is presented nicely but not worth the price or travel time. Steak was tasteless, friends thought the sea bass not great either. Wont go back.
Delicious and the owner Mauricio is the life of the ambiance there, the oysters were yummmmy... roasted beets were amazing
It was a pleasant surprise. Relatively a new place but the food was pretty good. The host suggested different pasta variations n we tried those. Pretty good. Can try if you are in the area. Great service. Good food
Probably the best chicken parm I ever had. Great wine selection and excellent service. Not to mention the ambiance and views from the restaurant. Worth every penny
After driving up the coast in our vacation we decided to relax and have drinks and food by the pier, so we went to Osteria. Our terrible experience started since the moment we walked in. Right in front of us was a couple who got acknowledged right away by the host who took them to their table and spent a good 7-10 minutes chatting with them, ignoring our presence. He had obliviously seen us but he didnt seem to care we were waiting. Servers passed by in front of us not acknowledging us for a while. Finally someone did but the host, still talking to the other guests didnt seem to care we were waiting. When we were finally greeted by the host, we asked him if we should sit outdoors so we could see the pier. He didnt even let me finish my request, pushing us to a corner table where the view was obstructed by shipping containers. NOBODY sat in the table that was available outside the whole night. In fact, there were less and less guests throughout the night, plenty of available tables. When we sat down, it took quite a bit of time for our server to acknowledge us. He got our drink order and our food order when he came back with the drinks. We didnt see him the whole entire night untill after we got the food. I had to flag workers all the time to get any attention from them and to be able to order more wine. Waiters seemed to be taking care of all the tables except ours.I do have to say that the food was ok but, with the treatment we got we felt so terrible dining there. We were treated like scum. The server didnt even wait for my partner to finish his drink. He had the check in hand when he took our plates off the table. We decided to pay right away and get out as soon as we could to avoid the continued feeling we were getting from that place. We gave them 2 cards to split the bill. When the charges to the cards came back, we noticed they had messed up and only charged half of the check to one card. We could have walked out without saying anything but us, being people of color who get stereotyped all the time and because were good human beings, decided to alert the server about his mistake so he didnt get screwed over at the end of the night. Once again, it took a long time to acknowledge our presence, even as I was standing in front of their register obviously needing help. They didnt even say thank you for bringing this up.After we had dinner, we discovered there were other places where we couldve had dinner that seemed nice as well. My advice, if you dont want to be treated badly, find one of those other places and give them your hard earned money instead.
I would have given this a 4.5 but the waiting time was really really long. The waiter did say there was an issue in the kitchen while preparing our food. They said our tea bags wont be charged because of our more than an hour wait. Wish they offered more than free tea bags...
OMGosh! This is the most amazing restaurant in the world. The chef was amazing funny entertaining It was the best was the best birthday celebration ever! We ordered the pear stuffed ravioli and it was surprisingly amazing in flavor and presentation. The owner Chef explained in detail many of the dishes he specializes in. We even met their precious dog Mia. We highly recommend this restaurant and Would mark it with 10 stars if possible. Don’t miss this one!
Food was excellent, service slow and lousy! Waitress must have been new, because she brought 2 cocktails at first then the other 3 came much later. We asked for more bread, she said the buss boy would bring it, he never did. We ordered Calamari for appetizer, then was later told they were out of calamari at 5 pm dinner time.
Spectacular!! Everything! The ambiance! Staff! Food!! Going back to celebrate a milestone with friends and family!!
Food was great. Good caprese with Burrata, nice bread. Great prosecco with limonchelo. The pasta, ravioli and chicken parm were delicious. Great Lennon cake too. The place is on the pier great ocean view. Very simple design. Wont hurt to add some design touches typical to italian restaurant. The service was a bit slow but very friendly and professional.
Atmosphere was nice, staff was good, but food quality says average place charging premium prices. If you get calamari in any form watch out for the cartilage pieces in the rings...had it in all but two of my 12 pieces. All in all was very ok, but based on price expected way more. Disappointing end to the day.
Great ambience, good food and a wonderful greeting by the owners labradoodle who was lying near the check in area. I had the pork tenderloin special and it was perfectly prepared. Slightly pink and juicy. Came with homemade gnocchi with a cream sauce and veggies. The gnocchi were pillowy soft like Ive never had before. Sauce could have used something. It was a little bland. Wife had seafood de mare over linguine and it was excellent. Mussels and clams were sweet and tender as were the prawns and fish. She asked to have it made with white wine, garlic and lemon instead of the Marinara and they were more than happy to accommodate her request. Son had sand dabs over capallini and he really enjoyed his meal. Well definitely be back. 4.5 stars.
We have been blessed to eat here 3 times now, and every time food has been amazing. We drive from Gilroy to celebrate the food here. We have had a great sampling of the menu and the food is always fresh, delicious, and worth the money. I would encourage all to try out this amazing place.
Beautiful view of Monterey Harbor. Food was pricey and good but not great. Service was fair.
We really enjoyed ourselves here. The caprese appetizer is incredible. Our pastas were well done, flavorful, and authentic yet original taking advantage of local ingredients.
This place is AMAZING! they were out of a few things and still the customer service was top notch and we got a couple things taken off the bills. by far the best Italian food i’ve had EVER! so good for any occasion and i highly recommend. our waiter Bridgette was awesome and so sweet and accommodating. the manager we met when they ran out was so awesome and nice about getting us different options and getting us some free stuff for being out. Overall love the service and food and recommend 100x would come back.
Excellent food and friendly staff! The owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome!! Highly recommended!
Fantastic Italian seafood with a view of the bay. Low-key, lots of locals friendly staff great food. A little hard to find but once you know where it is youll be back. I highly recommend it when youre visiting the Monterey area.
Food was good, and service was very friendly but slow.
This place is awesome! The service was great and the food was amazing! I loved the view of the bay and especially the heated seating so my friends and I weren’t freezing at the outside seating. I ordered the Fettucine al Pollo and it was phenomenal. I would love to eat here again the next time I’m in Monterrey.
Very friendly service and was very nice and welcoming. It had a nice view of the docks and ocean outside and the heat lamps made it comfortable. I had ordered the NY Steak as I’m allergic to sea food and it came with amazing gnocchi and veggies with it. For drinks, the Bloody Mary was alright but the limoncello was amazing and a perfect finish with our meals. An enjoyable place to eat and relax.
Delicious and generous portions. The view was astounding and we attended when customers represented a melting pot of society.
Surprisingly, very good Italian place In Monterey. The short rib is excellent and the tomato pasta is very good too.
Really good authentic Italian food and great service in a beautiful setting! Definitely a must see when in Monterey.
Was a great time, the host was amazing and really told the story of the daily specials in a way that made you want to try all of them! Was out 2nd time here, and both times we also made great memories at the dock below, last time with seals and this time with jellyfish.
Terrific food. Great view; they dont always go together. Here they do. Nothing says about these dishes.
We made a reservation in advance for outdoor seating, however given the chilly weather they were able to accommodate our last minute request for indoor seating.Excellent customer service (our waiter was very friendly) and a great view of the marina.Sand-dabs meal wasnt great, but the chicken parmesan was excellent.
Took the whole family for lunch. Very friendly. The food was tasty and the view memorable. Agree that you should bring a sweater. Definitely recommend!
Amazing view, Amazing food, portions and friendly service! Definitely one of my favorite places, worth the price!
Loved the special of the day! Truffle ravioli with fish!
Im not one to leave reviews but I have no words to describe the gastronomic experience I just shared with my wife. Everything was sublime. We even ordered off menu, the service was unmatched, and everything was heavenly. Dont hesitate, dont overthink, this is THE place to go. Ive heard of foodgasms before but this is the first place that has made us feel that way. Please come and help this family business!
I wish that I could rate this a 10! We were seated outside and had the most gorgeous view of the water. All of the staff was helpful and kind, with smiles for everyone. We started with the burrata and calamari which were hands-down the BEST Ive ever had. The calamari were thick strips, not heavily breaded or greasy, paired with a marinara sauce. We also ordered a Syrah wine to accompany dinner. The wine list is extensive, and our server did an amazing job recommending the wine. The owner walked over to check on us and just has the most joyful personality. It is clear that he loves his occupation and seeing others having a wonderful experience. He suggested the Ravioli and Bucatini- which he had made by hand that morning. When our dinner arrived, I couldnt believe the portion sizes. They were huge, and we finished everything. What an outstanding meal!! It was the perfect way to wrap up our week in Monterey. When we come back, we will definitely be dining here again.
Good italian food with good views.
Husband and I made a reservation, showed for it at the proper time, and when they finally sat us, we were sat at a makeshift table on the side of the building, with no heater, in 55 degree weather, no utensils, place settings, and with my husbands face facing the direct sun. It was very clear they pulled a table out of thin air to try and cover up the fact that they overbooked and didn’t have a proper table for us. When we brought this to the host’s (I believe the host) attention, he said that he was doing us the favor of honoring our reservation (doing us a favor? We made reservations?) but if we wanted a better table we would need to wait an additional hour.. you would think one of the tables inside with a reserved sign could’ve been given to a couple who reserved a table. When I asked the man if he would be happy with that situation if he were a guest, he had no answer for me. It takes so much for me to go out of the way to write a poor review but it was honestly so belittling. We’ll never know what their food tastes like, but I’ll never return based on the poor management alone. As we drove away, the table had already been broken down, making it clear it was never a suitable table to begin with.
Time for a light lunch. Soup and salad. She had Minestrone and crab cakes. He had Clam chowder and beet salad. All fresh and delicious.Located on 2nd floor overlooking the Monterey harbor. Great views
After seating, they told us we had to be out in an hour and a half, and proceeded to charge us for oysters we barely ate after seeing little worms in them.
Love, love, loved it, the food was delish, Hector our waiter was on point and there was an other gentleman that worked there, he was hilarious and fun, they made my granddaughters birthday special, if in Monterey stop in for some yumminess 😋
I absolutely love this place. Come for the food, stay for the view.Great food that is made with fresh ingredients!!So delicious!
The bruschetta was fabulous! The dinners were okay but I wouldnt go back for dinner.
Surprised to find the owner of Maurizios in Morgan Hill here in Monterey. Great food in very nice setting. Try the Polenta appetizer .... the sauce was fantastic. Both our meals very first rate and ended the evening with Limoncello!
Calamari and clam chowder was extremely good. Nice place to overlook the harbor.
Charming Cafe, great food, and excellent host. Will be back.
As locals, we have a hard time finding places in Monterey worth the money as most places just cater to tourists but Osteria Al Mare did not disappoint. We made a reservation but showed up a little early and we were accommodated (I think by the owner?). The ambiance was nice and even for a small place didnt feel cramped. It was packed and a bit warm for our liking but not terrible. Our server was busy but made an effort to greet us quickly and told us the specials which all sounded amazing.Unfortunately, for us craft beer lovers they only serve English Ales 😐. But they do have a full bar and decent wine list.We started with the mussels and thought the rich broth was delicious and I thought it was nice the server offered to bring us a few more pieces of bread instead of having to ask for it.Both of our entrees were beautifully plated (as well as you can with a seafood pasta!), good sized portions and we both loved their flavor. One half of my short ribs were perfect the other a bit dry and could have used more of the sauce that was on the polenta cake but not inedible at all. The roasted veggies were good but literally had no seasoning on them; not even a little salt and pepper. -1/2 starWe finished with the mocha cheesecake which we were told was made off-site but very delicious! We left full and happy and for what we got we felt the bill wasnt bad.We had come because we got a Save30 from KRML and we were told right away they dont take them even though we had just purchased it which was a surprise. -1/2 star because of the lack of explanation and maybe the owner/manager should have come by to explain?Overall, well definitely be back! Always more beer and food reviews on Instagram @craftybeermaven
Wow!!!! We were so happy with our experience here last night. Between the staff, the ambiance, and the food, our dinner in Monterey was a perfect. It was a Saturday night, but they were not only able to accommodate but found us a perfect table for 2. They were over the top hospitable and I love how the staff all speaks Italian, it made us really feel transported to Europe. While we waited for our table, we enjoyed drinks outside and got a show from a local seal! Apparently they hang out there quite a bit (must have seen the good reviews!)All the beer and wine we had were great. We started with the calamari and upon suggestion both ordered the scallops with truffle ravioli which was absolutely incredible. You could tell the raviolis were handmade. We would have loved to order dessert but were so full we couldn’t!! We would absolutely come back here. Additionally, the prices were very fair!
Lovely view..good service...great food.
My wife and I were traveling, we decided to try out this place, didn’t know we had to make a reservation, but they still were able to get us a seat. The food was amazing, everything was fresh and had rich taste. The reason I am giving one star is because of their service, very very poor service. My wife left her travel backpack on one of the seats, we called the restaurant and luckily it was still there on the chair, when my wife walked up to the counter.. not sure if it was the owner, but he had the audacity to ask my wife why we didn’t leave a tip... never in my life have we been questioned about leaving a tip, he said was the food not good enough? being how my wife is she didn’t want to be rude and say something so I am saying it now... I am always generous about leaving a big tip when I feel like I am being appreciated for selecting YOUR restaurant over all of the restaurants in Monterey... we were waiting for over half an hour to even order our food while customers that came in after us were already being served, I don’t leave tips for the quality of your food, I leave tips for feeling welcomed and noticed
Walked 30 mins to the restaurant with family, found out that our reservation was somehow missed. Didn’t try anything to help….We ended up walking home hungry and grumpy. Not the most customer friendly place
Overpriced. Slow service, mediocre food. Calamari passable. Waited 45 mins for (2) 6oz bowls of soup that tasted right out of the can. A whopping $10 each. Dont waste your dining dollars on this overpriced hot mess.
Poor service by the “boss” we ended up picking our drinks up at the bar!
One word. Fantastic.
Delicious food and fabulous service in a beautiful setting!
Always great service and excellent Italian/seafood food! Calamari appetizer and swordfish special were excellent last night.
Osteria al Mare is a diamond in the rough. Located in an unassuming building, the food and service was PHENOMENAL! My scallops and risotto was mind blowing. My husbands short rib ravioli was short lived as he devoured it with haste. I was moved enough by Fabrizios service and the exquisite preparation of the food to give my very first Google review to Osteria. We hope to make this a regular outing.
Great service. Delicious food. Comfortable and airy atmosphere.
Great cocktails and food. The swordfish daily special was a bit greasy and not much flavor but I’ll round up due to great service and view
