Went in just after noon today on my birthday. My fiance called ahead to see if we could see some overstock of our Magic the Gathering collection. When we got there we handed him an admittedly large bag of cards. Instead of telling us it was too many cards to be worth it to him or something else that was professional and customer friendly he said to us “I’ll tell you what its worth. Taking them from you and having to sort through them myself is what it’s worth.”Definitely not the response we were expecting especially after being told that they were in the market for buying from us beforehand. With the Salinas location closing, you would think they would try to keep what loyal customers they had.
Great business! Supportive of the community.
Great staff, well run events, good selection of products at fair prices.
The premier tabletop gaming spot here in Monterey. The primary gaming groups are MtG, 40k, and Infinity. They are taking the pandemic seriously, and as such they cater to small, safe groups for play, as far as regulations permit.Theres a lot of reasons why this store has survived this long, and its simply because theyre excellent at what they do.
I had a good time playing Magic, Smash, 40k, and other board games at this store during my time in Monterey! The staff was friendly, the atmosphere welcoming, and there were great deals. Be sure to avoid having them order anything for you unless you pay upfront. Dont express interest in anything unless you are 100% ready to buy.
Off putting environment.
Cool stuff, mostly Magic.
Incredibly rude customer service
A large space with plenty of room to play, and lots of friendly faces. I love seeing community spaces like this, especially ones open to young kids. Its in a great location and has a really wonderful atmosphere.
Super friendly people, pretty happening place. Ended up spending my whole day after I walked in, starting with some casual EDH games and then stayed to watch the smash tournament. Overall great experience 👍
I am changing my original review from 3 stars to 1 star, as I have had more unpleasant experiences. I really tried to give this place a chance, but it is either not run in an organized manner, or they dont want peoples business. My first experience was when I took a night off of night work to participate in a draft (which would have been my first in 15 years), which they have listed on their website as occurring at 6pm. I arrived and asked about the draft, an enployee chuckled and said they rarely have enough people to participate. I understand that isnt their fault, but it would be nice for them to make that clear on their website calendar. The next time I headed over to buy some stuff, and got there about 30 minutes before their listed closing time. The placed was closed! Okay.... strike 2.Tonight, after checking their website, showed that they were open until 10pm. I arrived a 6pm. They were closed and had different hours posted on their door than on their website (both google listings and their actual website show the same hours as being open on Tuesdays.)Honestly, there is no excuse to not update online the hours you are open. It reflects on a failing business. I didnt want to have to buy my cards online, but that is what I am realizing I have to do. What a shame.
I go to a lot of game stores, and I was pleasantly surprised by the immaculate condition of this store.I visited on an off-night during the week, so Im not sure what the vibe is like when it gets busy, but the staff were super friendly and very helpful. Selection was a ltttle sparse for some games, but I imagine this is mostly due to the size of the actual storefront.More than anything, the sheer cleanliness of this place was what stuck out. Most game stores have at least a few areas with a little bit of dust, but this place was basically spotless.
Cool little place. A little bare on the selection, but they were willing to order the game I wanted and happened to be a quick turn around, so not a big deal. Prices are as expected. They have a good deal on some items. They obviously gear themselves towards Magic card game players. As Im sure thats their big ticket item. But, plenty of tables and they even have some boards for Warhammer in the back. They offer a military discount which is also pretty cool. Not a bad place to meet people and get introduced to some gaming. They host some board game groups there as well. So, dont be afraid to go in and ask some questions. The staff actually plays games, so they can give you some good insight and suggestions.
Nice looking game shop. We were in town for the weekend and picked up a new game wed had our eye on for a while. Wed frequent if we lived local.
Great place to play games and a fun Magic the Gathering community. They have a bathroom and a microwave available. Staff has been super helpful and easy to talk to. Good selection of games you can play before you buy. D&D and Pathfinder books, model supplies, boardgames, and TCGs (mainly MTG)
I have been there a few times for the weekly game night on Thursday. Maybe it seems intimidating to walk into a room full of strangers to try board games, but you will find yourself welcomed to join a group quickly. The regulars are friendly, and all of my interactions with the staff have been great.
A generally nice place. The patronage is obviously a mixed bag, but most receptions are friendly. The sale inventory is of corse limited, but they have a great selection of Magic(: The Gathering) supplies. In addition to weekly drafts($12 on Friday and Sunday) and other events, they offer rentable tables for games beyond Magic. Between 16:00 and 20:00 daily, the place is pretty full with small groups playing various games.
It may be the premier table top gaming on the area, an even though it may have being a tournament night, I got the impression that it was mostly a MtG store with some other games tossed it. But that may be the areas main interest. Not a whole lot of RPG content to be seen.
A great little local game store. Friendly staff. Went in to look for some new release games, couldnt find much (not a large stock of game) but still walked out with a few smaller items.
Only good if you like magic they dont sell other cards at the Monterey location.
Nice small shop with lots of table space for gaming. Picked up my copy of D&D 5e DMG about two weeks before it hit the streets. Thats a huge plus.
Such a great gaming store with runs of community.
Great place for community gives a place for kids, young adults, and adults to go and play board games or card games and enjoy themselves. My experience at this establishment have always been fun and positive.
I used to organize video game events for this business, until the owner decided to take the series Id built for him and gave it to another person. Ive since changed locations and no longer affiliate with this owner. During one of the events I hosted there I had a game stolen, which has never happened at any other of my events. Took my magic cards to be appraised, left them with the shop owner. When they were returned, my favorite and best cards had been swapped out for complete garbage. Contacted the owner to no reply. This business is shady. Would not recommend.
The guy here treated me like absolute trash from the moment I stepped in. He offered me less for my card than what the sign said and wouldnt give me a fair trade without heavy convincing. I handed the guy a $50 card and he offered me $15 of trade value for it. He was short tempered, and rude. Would like to see this place go out of business.
Good atmosphere and helpful staff. It is also the only place to go in Monterey for role-playing and tabletop game stuff so thats an automatic plus.
Only shop in the area to offer such items. A free space to play whatever RPG or DnD wanted. Only downside is its semi hole-in-the-wall. Would do better in a more open building
Best game store in Monterey, but they tend to focus alot on Magic: The Gathering and other CCGs as opposed to board games. However, its still a great place to go and relax with some friends.
Great place to chill and play magic i stay there for hours every friday because I lose track of time
The place I go around here for all my gaming needs. Their sister store in Santa Cruz is wonderful as well.
Staff was rude, unknowlegeable of product, the was store sparce, the prices were high, and the atmosphere off putting... I wont be coming back...Lacked basic Warhammer40k stuff, like codexs, troops. Ordering stuff takes up to 2-3 weeks(or longer), thus defeating the point.Lacked D&D, Pathfinder, Starfinder, armada or starwars core rule books, so new players CANT even start. Refuses to carry Warmachine, flames of war or starwars product... at all. However, if you wish to learn about Infinity, (and you probably wont) youre in good luck, because it will be rammed down your throat. Almost literally in some cases.
Great fun on Thursday night meet up for board games.
Great place to go for gaming.
Great staff. Could be a bit cleaner and better lit.
While the selection of games is limited, there is a great community established here that meets up for board games every Tuesday and Thursdays.
They buy Magic the Gathering card collections off people. Its a great place to network for those who love table top gaming.
Hmm. It is difficult to review your local game store, especially since Ive known some of these people all my life. So this review is slightly biased, but also all those little things that end up bugging you when you show up every week.Their board game collection could be better, but its not terrible and there is a good collection of games you can just play in store. Dice rating : AMagic ... they have so many magic cards. Not just current sets, but the awesome old sets. They have different events each day of the week, mostly magic, but there are many game groups that play there. They finally opened up their Wi-Fi, and there is a storage service for people to store minis and books. It also gives a small discount on magic events, but I try very hard to resist magic. (The membership club is overpriced Id say)All in all, people come from Salinas. It has a limited selection of game books, I would love to see some more obscure RPGs. And importantly, as a girl I feel comfortable there. They wont look at you weird.
Great space, well laid out selection and run by folks who clearly love their games. Come check them out!
An inclusive and friendly environment to game and meet new people
They just started giving store credit prizes on Monday night standard. Solid value and the best place to play standard in the Monterey Bay area.
Nice people and plenty of room for games
I’ve only recently started frequenting this location (MTG) and service has been on point. Parking is a bit painful, but so worth it.I’ll be sure to update
Great little store friendly staff
Awesome crowd and fair card prices
Excellent gaming experience.
Tried to call the store looks like the store number is incorrect it just gives me a message that says the number you have dialed is incorrect
Never went in, parking was unavailable.
Go to place to magic on the weekends. The staff is friendly and the regulars are all very kind.
It ok
DICE.
Crappy
Very good service, not enough warehouse.
