Mike is a great guy and an excellent mechanic. He always calls to let you know what your options are BEFORE doing any work. And he has frequently been able to fix a problem for LESS than he originally thought. This summer, they repaired the linkage in my transmission rather than ordering a new part. That saved me a couple of hundred dollars. If you want an honest mechanic that does good work at a fair price with excellent customer service, this is the place. Ive been taking my car here for a few years now and Im a satified customer.

Mac is a very good mechanic shop, honest. BUT NOT FAIR!!! In my experience.

I have a lot of nice things to say about Mac automotive. (And Im not being paid to write this. :) )First, a short summary.Mike and his guys rebuilt my 05 Subaru WRX with amazing success. My engine blew up six months ago and Mike pulled it out and sent it to a machine shop to be rebuilt. Most mechanics would never do that. They put it back together and there have been zero problems! No check engine lights, no leaks or funny noises. Zero problems. They painstakingly replaced every old hose, belt and clamp. Every step of the way, Mike described what he was doing, and took the proper time to do it. He gave me a break on labor because it was such a big job. Didnt have to do that...Bottom line: Mac Automotive is by far the best mechanic I have ever been to and they are Subaru specialists. Please take your car there.Heres the long version:I had my 05 WRX towed to Mac Automotive in the summer of 2017 after a hose blew on 280. I had no idea they were a Subaru shop. Mike talked to me about the problem, asked if I had run the car while overheated, and promptly fixed the cooling system. I took the car back a few months later for power steering issues and Mike had no problem taking the steering rack out to be rebuilt. Again, most shops wouldnt do that. Most shops want you in and out. Not Mac Automotive.In April 2018 a timing belt pulley broke (due to incorrect installation by dealer ...). This type of engine destroys itself without a timing belt so it was curtains for the engine. Mike explained this and I had a big decision to make- rebuild the engine for serious $$$ or junk the car. I chose to rebuild with stock parts. Mike has a machine shop that was willing to do the rebuild and they sent it out.Meanwhile, Mike had to hunt far and wide for parts. The engine internals were trashed so that meant pistons, rings, valves, etc. He found timing covers and pulleys which were all Subaru genuine parts. Looking at the bill for parts, I dont think Mike tried to make much money off them. He spent his own time hunting down every little thing because they do the job right.After getting the engine back, the long process of reassembly began. The WRX has a tight engine bay and lots of extra assembly due to the turbo and high performance nature of the vehicle. Mike and his mechanics took their time and did the job right. Along the way, they had to replace all the vacuum hoses and some related parts. They replaced the clutch, motor and trans mounts along with a brake caliper and pads.They ran the engine in the shop for hours to make sure it was okay to drive, then drove it. No check engine lights. No leaks. No squeaks. The clutch is smooth. The engine is brand new and my car is awesome like its brand new. I drove it for a week and brought it back for Mike to look at it. Smiles all around. A huge thanks to Mac Automotive for amazing service.Take your car there.
