The doctors and staff were so pleasant. They were nice, friendly, caring, and curteous. The doctor is funny too!! Will definitely be back.

Great experience! I have been to 5 different offices in the past week, looking for frames. Came here just to look but ended up purchasing because of the selection and staff. Kristin and Amber were extremely helpful and patient while I looked at almost every frame they had! They gave me honest feedback as to how the frames looked and made thoughtful suggestions based on my likes and preferences, but also encouraged me to try some I normally wouldnt have. I ended up choosing one I never would have picked up on my own! Thank you again for the wonderful service!

Was told over the phone for 110 dollors I could get an exam and glasses, I go in and they are determined to sell me a 40 dollor test or blind me for 3 days with tropicamide, then at the end of the exam the total was 115, was told 110,and did not include glasses was just an exam.after the fact no one would take the outside perscription, this doctor is a con artist little desk girls will say one thing and charge you another, I wouldnt have been able to get glasses for less then 400

I called as a new patient having grey, blurry vision. I was seen two hours later as a work-in patient. The doctor was thorough and caring. The staff was friendly and professional. I referred to an excellent opthalmologist who did laser surgery within a week. I have a return appointment to Southern Vision Care for a recheck of my eyes and a new pair of reading glasses. I have confidence in this practices ability to care for my serious vision problems and to help me back into the world of clear vision.

I had a great experince. The ladies were so sweet and helped me pick out a pair of petite glasses that fit great! The doctor was incredible. He worked quickly but also listened to all of my concerns! Highly recommend!

Positive: Doctor is very knowledgeable and I trusted him. Was very satisfied with the accuracy of the prescription and quality of the exam. Willing to answer questions.Negative: This office is VERY uncooperative if you are wanting to order glasses online. The glasses that I got at the office were great but cost me $500. They did replace the lenses once because they were scratched. However, when I decided to order a pair of prescription sunglasses online (which I can get for just over $100) they made the process as difficult for me as possible. They seemed irritated with me for trying to get a better deal on glasses even though I was still coming to them for the exam. Then, they refused to give me my PD measurement with my prescription even though they had it on file and had taken the measurement for the first pair of glasses I ordered through them. Then, the woman I spoke with lied to me directly. She said that you have to have your PD measured each time you get glasses because it changes over time. False. I looked it up online and it is VERY rare that your PD will change once you are an adult who has gone through puberty. Very disappointed in their ability to function in modern times!

Wow!I spent a number of years in the eyecare profession and it takes a lot to impress me. But Dr. Shirey and his highly attentive staff have won my personal medal of excellence.Beyond making a personal connection, they treated me with kindness and welcomed me into their work family.The exam and other tests were state-of-the-art. The doctor took time to explain the outcome to me thoroughly. He even recommended a new type of contact lens that I was amazed that is working very well for me.The bottom line is you get what you pay for. Although SVCs price structure seems to be in line with other places, the personal attention and knowledge you will benefit from here are beyond comparison.

This whole wearing eyeglasses all the time thing is kindof strange because it feels like Im wearing goggles all day. Having said that...its super nice being able to see clearly and not having extremely tired eyes all the time. Ive had eye problems off and on since high school. Pretty sure I finally found an optometrist who actually wrote me the RIGHT prescription! So grateful!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Dr. Shirey at Southern Vision Care is the only optometrist I trust. The office staff are professional, courteous, and quick to assist patients/customers. A great experience every time. Highly recommended!

Today is the last day that I go here. The two stars are strictly because the optometrist nice and very knowledgeable. The ladies at the front desk ALWAYS add up to $ 75 or higher of fees ( excluding co-pay) that is not cover up my insurance benefits. They pass it off has if is require or need but its not. It is very annoying. I have to constantly tell them that I do not want this added features if it not cover up my insurance provider. I contacted my insurance to ask about the fees that I was charged and they never even heard of them. Its almost has if they are making up fees for patients to pay out of pocket. Dont not go here unless your willing to pay at least $100 of out pocket even if they are you in-network provider.

Dr. Shireys office is by the far the best eye care clinic Ive been to. They have technology my retina specialist doesnt even have! And Dr. Shirey took the time to explain all my scan results (and show me the images) before fitting me for contacts. The front staff were very helpful and sweet. After trying several other places around town, this is where I will be going from now on.

WOW! Technology in eye care has really taken a giant leap forward. And Southern Vision Care must have the most modern diagnostic equipment in Mobile. Other eye care professionals are awesome in their own right, but simply dont have this type of equipment. This was the most thorough eye exam Ive ever had. Everything was explain by Dr. Shirey. Three full screens worth of explaining. All of this is only topped by how polite and genuinely caring the staff was. And Mrs. Shirey recommended an insurance company, since I didnt have one, days before my appointment. Saving me money that I was able to apply toward the glasses and features I wanted but thought were out of reach....Yes, theyre busy. So I was patient and received individual care too. So worth it. They even went the extra mile on the phone with the eye glass company to get me exactly what I wanted. Im a happy camper. And the view is gorgeous. :-D THANK YOU! Diana Mozingo

Deciding to trust Southern Vision Care with my eyes has been the best medical decision I have ever made. The staff are warm, friendly, and caring, clearly following the example set by Dr. Shirey. I used to go to Sams Club because it was close and the service was okay. However, several years ago Dr. Shirey was the doctor on duty. After experiencing his care I made the decision to go miles out of my way to Southern Vision Care. I have lived in New Jersey, Indiana, California, Georgia, and now Alabama. His office has the most modern equipment and the latest technology, and the absolute best staff I have ever experienced. As others have said, you will be doing your eyes and your spirits a favor by going to Southern Vision Care.

The doctor was very friendly and nice me and my daughters love the staff! My girls were scared because it was their first visit but he made them feel comfortable...my eye doctor from now on

Nice doctor, but horrible staff. I decided to go to another eye doctor after the staff messing up my eye exam and then it taking multiple trips to get me in the right contacts. The staff was incredibly rude and short with me and was bad about not calling me back. I didnt like how pushy the tech was with me during my eye exam and angrily grabbing my eye-lid when I was having trouble keeping it open during the exam. Im not a eye care specialist, but that felt very unprofessional grabbing somebodys eyelid in a dark room like that.Ive had glasses since second grade and contacts in high school and I never had this much trouble getting the right prescription or having staff treating me this rudely before. It just gave me a bad feeling about what would happen if I had an emergency and needed help. I just decided to take my business elsewhere.

We are in are late 60s. and the doc is the best we have ever found. other doctors told my wife that she would never see good again boy were they wrong. Rebecca was a great help everyone was helpful, including holding the door open, during the rain. tks again chuck and rita cole

Today(06/2020): 1 StarThe staff, as always, were hospitable and polite. But, my opinion of Dr. Mark Shirey, who is also trying to run for public office - has changed.Dr. Shirey was a savior to me when he helped me with a nearly debilitating ailment. I have photophobia - no Im not scared of light. Its a diagnosis for high sensitivity to light. Bright light, and all Sun light, are very painful for me. Dr. Shirey gave me the prescription that helped me deal with this while driving, of which I cant describe how grateful I was for this. It was literally life changing.But - during my last visit, Dr. Shirey told me that he doesnt do that anymore. He doesnt recognize a diagnosis thats over 100 years old and recognized by all major medical institutions. His excuse was ALDOT doesnt recognize it., which is not true. Neither ALDOT or ALEA list any diagnosis that they do or dont recognize. The law in the state of Alabama is very clear in this regard.When I got home, I did the research on this. I compiled the information and sent it to Dr. & Mrs. Shirey for review and follow-up. I havent received anything back from them.Ive dealt with tremendous pain in my life, and live with severe musculoskeletal pain every day. Every day I deal with challenges doing things that most wouldnt have a second thought about. But the pain from bright light is something that stops me from being able to safely operate a vehicle. I have to close one eye and squint the other - all while theyre watering. depending on how long Im exposed, my vision just starts deteriorating - colors start blending/fading.. etc. Its not a pleasant experience when Im without shaded lenses.Ive been very fortunate to have doctors and specialists that have helped me with a number of things in my life. Doctors that listen to their patients and seek to understand them.This is the first time Ive felt discriminated for a medical diagnosis. By a Doctor.Im sure Dr. Shirey didnt think of it like that, or do it out of spite. But its still a blow to the quality of life for me. Dr. Shirey, like the rest of us, is human. But, in a position where youre responsible for providing care for and improving the quality of life for your patients, you should never assume, discount or interpret your patients plea as unimportant or conjecture.Im the one with the condition, not you. Youre responsible for having the knowledge and authority to help me cope with the condition.I do not take any pleasure in giving a review like this. Especially for a local owned business and a member of our community. But, I also take professional responsibility very seriously - and this was an irresponsible action that negatively affected my quality of life, where I was a patron seeking professional help to improve my quality of life. It was a request well within the realm of service that one would expect from this establishment.This is very important as a leader in the community as well. If you want to run for office, dont start by discriminating against your own patients by directly denying them the help youre tasked with and responsible for providing.I guess its good practice for becoming a politician...5 years ago: 5 StarsIve visited this office twice and will be back.
