I am blown away by this bakery every time! I am a huge sweets girl so the dessert table was a big priority for me at my wedding. WOW! I was blown away! Our desserts were talked about for weeks after our wedding by our guests. We had cupcakes, brownies, apple bars, mousse shooters, cheesecake shooters, cookies, cake balls and there were NONE left by the end of the night because they were so good! Thirsty Whale is amazing! Super easy to work with, very responsive, professional, and will make whatever you want! They are SO talented! 10/10 would recommend!

Updated as of 6 Oct 2021.Again another amazing experience with their cakes, I sent multiple pictures to create a half/half retirement/birthday casino cake for my Aunt and they delivered! I only had one small issue but nothing that would prevent me from coming back, also the smudge was from my being clumsy taking it out, not from the bakery. The cake was delicious; we had chocolate with chocolate mousse, honeywine moscato with triple berry jam(my personal fav) and marble with cream cheese filling. Everyone loved this cake and I directed them all to Thirsty Whale! Some guests even ate a slice of each tier because they had to try them all. No disappointments!Everything is amazing and fairly priced! From their Cakes to their cupcakes, the flavor is always amazing and the cake is never dry. Their custom cakes are absolutely fantastic and even the fondant tastes good! This is honestly the only bakery I use in the Twin Cities for every occasion.

I was so worried this would be an asinine request but they really did it, and they did SUCH a good job! The lobby is very small, but that makes it feel cozy. The guy who helped us was super nice and fun to talk to!! They come up with such creative flavors for cupcakes, I just had to buy some (and they were good af) I want to order another cake for no reason, just to have an excuse to come back here. Thanks for making my birthday special!!Edited to say- the warping on the bottom of the cake is an illusion being caused by the platter. This is our second time ordering a personalized cake from Thirsty Whale Bakery and cannot recommend them enough. The first time was for a gender reveal and the second time was for my grandpas 77th birthday. Both times the cakes looked and tasted amazing. The most recent time we ordered banana and baileys flavor and everyone said the cake tasted really good. Thank you Thirsty Whale Bakery for makings my grandpas day that much more special.

Custom strawberry flavoured cake with intricate vine flower design on the exterior. this cake can serve 6-8 people. the cake layer itself wasn’t overly sweet, and the white cream in the middle was a perfect balance. we found the outer pink frosting way too sweet. overall, minimalistic design with a reasonable price and great flavours. would highly recommend getting this custom cake for a special friend or family friend to celebrate their special day!

Super yummy! We got the whoppie pies that was saw on HBC and they were delicious. The pistachio muffin was lovely as well as the Nutella filled croissant. We got to see Megan working in the back but she looked busy so we didnt want to interrupt. Cant wait to be back for more treats!

This bakery bakes the best cookies & cakes. Definitely my favorite in Minneapolis! All the guests praised how moist the cake was! My fav cookie would be the White Chocolate Macadamia. We had an initial issue with the artwork confusion but owner fixed the problem for us.

Apparently they stopped selling donuts about a year ago ....a lot of pictures on here show a huge donut counter, but it is now just a very small counter with a few items .....but all very good quality.... excellent goods! I chose them because they had the best webpage experience as far as seeing examples of work theyve done, pricing, flavors available etc. I then found out my friend used them for her wedding cake and is also a huge fan! The custom order process was super easy, I called them and told them a theme I was going for and a general idea of what I wanted and they helped guide me to more options available and I gave them some creative freedom and the resulting cupcakes were delicious and adorable! Im definitely a customer for life and will be recommending them to all of my friends. Bonus that its a north side business!

Thirsty Whale Bakery definitely exceeded our expectations! We knew the cake tasted amazing because we did a tasting beforehand, but we were blown away with how our cake turned out! It was beautiful! The guests LOVED all of the flavor combos of cupcakes and the cheesecake shooters. Also, we had to move venues at the last minute (covid) from MN to WI, and they were very accommodating and still delivered our cakes much further away than the initial plan, and they set them up beautifully. Highly recommend!

Thirsty Whale has, in my opinion, the BEST donuts in the Twin Cities. They also have amazing cake. We used both at our wedding last fall, and it couldnt have been better! We received numerous compliments on our donut wall - display and taste - and we were OBSESSED with our cake. Three different flavors of cake, with three different fillings, made to look SO beautiful. The prices for such quality food cannot be beat, the staff and owners are the BEST to work with, and their talents are incredible. Could not recommend them more.

Amazing bakery. We’ve ordered many cakes and other baked goodies from The Thirsty Whale and are always blown away by the designs and quality of the baked goods. This place is a gem. It’s in a crumby part of town, but these treats are worth the risk of being stabbed or robbed!

Im a little surprised how highly rated this bakery is since I had a fairly uninspiring experience. In a cute location the Nutella croissant was not a croissant at all but rather reminiscent of a McDonalds pie filled with chocolate instead; almost no visible lamentation, inexplicably sprinkled with large sugar crystal proved to make this pastry very disappointing. The blueberry scone being the only saving grace with lovely freshness is the reason I give this place two stars. Would not recommend.

Megan and her team are absolutely amazing. From beginning to end it was everything I could have hoped for and more. I walked into her bakery with a very vague idea as to what I wanted for my wedding cake and she brought those ideas to life. She sent me a digital drawing of the design concept we had decided on but the finished product was so much more than what I expected. About a week before the wedding we talked about my concerns for the heat as it’s the end of June and my reception was mostly outside. She was so accommodating, promising that she would be watching the weather to adjust the delivery window as needed. The day of was a scorching 85° and humid. They took the time to find my site coordinator and discuss options for moving the cake to a different location so that it would not melt which I cant express enough how much I appreciate. Seeing my cake for the first time took my breath away. It was so incredibly beautiful that I didn’t even want to eat it, but I also couldn’t wait to dig into that amazing honey wine moscato cake (mind you, I don’t even care for cake). The ONLY minuscule flaw, that isn’t even their fault, is that I didn’t realize I would have a hard time cutting through all of the fondant that made this design perfect. THANK YOU for everything.

The Thirsty Whale was absolutely amazing to work with! They made personalized beagle doughnuts for our dessert for our rehearsal dinner, and totally went the extra mile to make sure the beagles on the doughnuts looked just like our two beagles back home. I was honestly shocked at how many cupcake flavors they let us have for our wedding, and our guests have told us multiple times just how delicious every kind was! We had them make a two tiered wedding cake for the head table garnished with gold brush strokes and it was simply stunning - both elegant and clean. I highly recommend using Thirsty Whale Bakery for your big day.

Absolutely our favorite bakery! We first met at the Camden Farmers Market and quickly knew that we wanted them to do our daughters birthday. I recently ordered my boyfriends birthday cupcakes from The Thirsty Whale and I absolutely LOVED how they turned out!! I also loved their customer service, they were a joy to work with.I ordered six german chocolate cupcakes and six maple bacon cupcakes. Half of them were Minnesota Vikings themed and the other half were Joker themed. My boyfriend sent me a picture when he received them and Im VERY impressed; and Im not very easily impressed. Thirsty whale was the best decision for our wedding we had 200 cupcakes in 6 flavors and a 2 tier cake (6 and 8 inches) in another two flavors. We took home less than a dozen cupcakes and the top their and had less than 130 people at the wedding they were a hit. Everyone loved them!!! They also drove them all they way to St. Cloud, and were super considerate of my tree nut allergy. I cannot sing them enough praises. Also the cake was beautiful!!!

First we would drive up from South Minneapolis and now we drive up from downtown St. Paul. We love their strawberry doh-nut, lemon poppy seed old fashioned and almost any bakers specialIf youre considering Thirsty Whale for your wedding - our cake was absolutely phenomenal. We received so many compliments from guests that it was the best wedding cake theyd tasted. It was also a beautifully decorated, black iced cake of my dreams! They also had great options for other desserts we used to put together a dessert bar for our guests and were able to provide us with rental stands.

Order a variety of cupcakes, cannoli, peanut bars, and an almond croissant. Almond croissant was pretty bad overall. Wasnt softy or flaky. Was chewy and hard and nothing like a croissant. Cupcakes looked and tasted like the stuff you could get at Target with a little better decoration. Cannolli was pretty good and the bars were okay. Decent stuff, but nothing great.

I ordered a cake and 2 dozen donuts for my daughter’s first birthday. The cake was adorable and delicious. The price was really reasonable for a professionally decorated cake and the size was generous. The cake was light and flavorful, and the berry mousse inside was amazing. The donuts were also great and well received. Our favorites were the filled bismarks!

When our local bakery closed, I went in search of a new bakery to do special occasion cakes and stumbled across the Thirsty Whale. They have supplied us with custom cakes, cupcakes, and their case cakes to help us celebrate many occasions. They staff has always been professional and friendly to work with and, most importantly, the cakes have been delicious and stunning!We’ve also started to taste test their donuts and they are amazing! Unique flavors that are well balanced, not over sweet, and not greasy. It is a 30 minute drive to their shop from our house on weekend mornings, but it is well worth it to get our donut fix!

I was so excited when I saw it at our venue before our reception started. The cake was so delicious as well! One of our groomsmen -- who is notorious for not eating lots of sweets -- told us at the end of the night that he had eaten FOUR slices of cake! It was that good!

I had an amazing glazed cake donut here. Some of the other varieties were a bit overly sweet, but I would definitely come here again.

We always get our birthday cakes from Thirsty Whale and they are always the biggest hit. We’re big geeks and they’ve been able to knock all of our fandoms out of the park over the years (Kingdom Hearts, Mario, Dinosaurs, Kitty Cats, you name it). My favorite cake was I sent them a gif as a reference picture from the anime Food Wars! Shokugeki No Soma, and they absolutely nailed it for my husbands birthday. The art is unmatchable and the cakes and donuts are delicious as well.

My family and I have ordered Thirsty Whale nearly weekly since the stay at home order began and will continue long after things return to normal. I cant get enough of their cake donuts and the Hot Chocolate Bismark. I basically have a standard order at this point. I have yet to try one of their cakes, but they look delicious, not to mention beautiful - take a look through the cake gallery you wont be disappointed. Just make sure you have a napkin handy for your drool.Oh did I mention they deliver? Rain or shine. On time, every time.

Everything tasted so delicious! All of our guests raved about how delicious each item was and we had cheesecake shooters, cookies, mini cupcakes, pb cups, and macarons. Each dessert was so delicious. They were also super accommodating and made each dessert gluten free! We loved our desserts and the set up. I would highly suggest using them for future events! We also got some donuts for our brunch the next day after our wedding. These were not gluten free but people really liked them!

My wife and I were under contract to use Thirsty Whale for our wedding Saturday, March 21st, 2020 before the Covid-19 news started to really break out. We made the difficult decision of postponing our wedding Sunday, March 15th to a later date (November 2020) and starting calling our venues (wedding venue, food caterer, groom’s dinner, DJ, etc.) that day to try and transfer booking to the new date. In the coming days we were able to transfer not only the wedding venue but the other vendors to our new wedding date. The other vendors understood with this unforeseen circumstance we did not plan on cancelling last minute and were very accommodating to transferring the date with no transfer fees added to existing deposits.Unfortunately the only vendor we did have an issue with was Thirsty Whale Bakery. Family helping us with transferring vendors to the new date tried to call Thirsty Whale and got no response until Wednesday, March 18th where Thirsty Whale explained there would be no refunds issued. My fiancé and I spoke to the owner who explained the donuts/cupcakes/cookies were NOT made yet but the ingredients were ordered already so they had to make them and could deliver to our house or find a charity to donate them. Per their policy, no refunds can be issued after final payment is due. However, this was also the policy with the other vendors who were willing to accommodate us due to an unforeseen circumstance…....not because we were cancelling/transferring to a new date out of free will. We asked if they could keep our money and apply it to the new wedding date and she said it would have to be a whole new order…thus paying for 2 whole orders with the use of 1 event. We understood Thirsty Whale is a small business which is why we chose them along with the other vendors who are smaller as well. Instead of having the burden of added fees to an already frustrating situation of having to postpone our wedding, all the vendors besides Thirsty Whale gave us a positive outlook to our new date. If the deserts had already been made we would have been more understanding but things like flour/sugar/etc. can’t be preserved? I have a hard time believing that.Thirsty Whale ended up delivering our donuts/cupcakes/cookies on the day we were supposed to get married (Saturday, March 21st). I requested if they could set up the Donut Wall with white stands in my living room for the $75 we paid for since we were not getting refunded and the delivery person forgot to bring those. The owner ended up calling us after delivery and refunding that portion ($75) but there were other things like the $70 delivery cost I would have liked to avoid at least. I wish they would have been more accommodating and understanding during a difficult time in our lives where we were seeking help to transfer our dates. I would not recommend Thirsty Whale for your desert needs in any event hosting. At a time where other businesses were understanding and helpful in our transition, Thirsty Whale stood out as a thorn in an already frustrating situation for us. In the future I hope Thirsty Whale is more understanding and open to accommodating an unforeseen circumstance. In the end we found a new bakery and were able to get married!Sincerely,Disappointed

The customer service and superior decorating skills at this bakery is why we keep coming back! My son was THRILLED with his birthday cake. Big win for mom and dad! Thanks again, Thirsty Whale!

Their donuts are soooo good and always fresh. Definitely would recommend anyone looking for traditional or specialty donuts 😊!
