Loved going to Angle Food downtown and was even more excited to see there is one in SLP right down the street! Went for the first time this morning, it was busy! However the line moved consistently and I was ordering my donuts within 30 minutes. Honestly it was worth the wait! I ordered a dozen and they were all really good and very fresh, also enjoyed an iced Carmel latte. So happy to finally have a good donut and coffee shop near me!
We were so exctied to try this place. Got 3 donuts and a scone. The French cruller was great. The raised donuts had no flavor and were hard. Holiday gas station and Cub foods has way better raised donuts. Worst of all my chocolate banana scone was under cooked therefore, inedible. Very disappointed that 3 out of 4 were poor quality. They also put our items in a bag so it squished some and ruined the frosting. The cost was considerably high for what you get. Its $2.45 or close for a raised donut when better tasting ones can be acquired for $.99. By the way the donuts on the posters inside and outside dont match the limited selection. I wouldnt recommend standing in lines waiting or waking up early to beat them. Its not worth it.
I was really excited to try this place as I was never able to make it to their downtown location. Sad to only give it two stars but the donuts were underwhelming even without the 45 minute wait. Im all for waiting and paying $2.75 or more for a donut if it is good. We got a box of six and only liked (not loved) the french crueller and salted caramel.Pretzel lacked flavor.Operationally speaking, they could be managing crowds a lot better if they labeled all of the donuts in the display. As it is right now, there was only one person boxing and that person had to tell each customer ordering what the donuts were which held up the line considerably and left the cashier free at times.Space is nice but in 45 min of waiting didnt see anyone clean/wipe down tables between customer use.
I think this could be a great spot once the excitement over new opening dies down. The location is great and easily accessible. Very kid-friendly. The donuts were okay, but nothing special. My biggest issue was that there was no way of telling what flavors the donuts were. There was no signage and theres nothing on their social media to tell you what they have on deck so you can make decisions beforehand. We ended up ordering one of each because the cashier couldnt hear us over all the people in the store and as far as we could tell (some were more obvious than others), they were: cinnamon sugar, maple bacon, raspberry with chocolate chips, fruity pebbles, and two vanilla with sprinkles. I was expecting something a little more exciting like what youd find at Glam Doll or Thirsty Whale (when they were doing donuts), but was pretty disappointed in the options and very disappointed in the inability to find out the options *before* you wait in line for an hour to get to order.Overall, I think it has a lot of potential and Im excited to see what they come up with when they arent swamped with massive lines. Its a cute neighborhood spot, but if youre looking for quality and variety of donuts, make the trek to Glam Doll for now.
This was my second visit to Angel Food Bakery in St. Louis Park. While overpriced, the doughnuts are light and tasty. I was, however, very disappointed to note, again, that none of the baking or service staff wear masks. Such disregard for public safety during these times makes me wonder what precautions they take in the kitchen for food-prep safety.
I was so excited to have Angel Food move in close by. And we want to support local businesses, but so far I’ve been really disappointed with angel food.First, the selection when we’ve gone — especially on weekends — is not good. Generally about six different donuts to choose from, and all of the same type of donut, with No cake donuts.Second, the staff seems to move slow, which makes for the longer lines. Just not at all efficient when compared to yoyo.Third, the price. Four donuts this morning cost me about $13. Then I went to cub, and got two for about $1.50.Fourth, the quality of the baking seems to vary by day. The other day I had a fantastic donut. Today they didn’t have that same chewiness. The one I got was over baked. Cookies we’ve gotten have also been hit and miss in terms of the baking.I so hope they improve. My fingers are crossed that they do.
Their donuts are pretty good. Variety is OK. Kids will love this place; lots of colorful donuts. I wish I had more info on the donuts before picking them. I had some sugared donut with a twist. It was good; tasted eggy like a popover. I also had the curried vegetarian pastry which was kind of bland (how about partnering with Best of India, 2 doors down, to get some good puff pastry fillings??). The coffee was below average.Ill definitely continue to support this place as weve needed a neighborhood coffee place for so long. I think over time this place will get better. They are probably struggling to find crew just like every other place.
First time here. Impressed with everything I have had since far. Customer service was great too.
Get your insulin shot and wallet ready! These are some of the SWEETEST donuts weve ever had and $37.95 for a dozen!!! All we could taste was SUGAR. I believe they are all glazed first, then frosted, and candy on top. No cake donuts - all raised. Arrived at opening time 6am and only 6 types of donuts to pick from - was told bigger selection ready at 7am?! Never been to a bakery that doesnt have full selection at opening time and there was already a line at 6am. Donuts are bigger than box allowed so some were squished in and ruined. Very disappointed. Beautiful building in new space but sadly will not be returning.
Waited in line for almost 45min (which we knew there would be a wait so no big deal) just to finally get to the front and there were only 2 kinds of donuts, 1 kind of scone and 1 type of pretzel which is served cold with cold cheese. Then we ordered 2 hot chocolates which were only filled 3/4 of the way and tasted like the cheap powdered kind, then to top it off I was charged a 15% service fee that I was not informed about and only noticed it when I looked at my receipt! All in all not a good experience at all and will most likely not be coming back, which is disappointing because my family has been looking forward to them opening since we saw the fist signs going up.
I was so excited for this location to open since I was a loyal customer in the downtown minneapolis location and missed it so much! But I have to say, I’ve visited two separate times and been disappointed. The old location used to have a decent supply of gluten free items, and this time they only had one option which was sold out within the first hour of being open. When I asked about when more might come or how quickly they sell out, the sales person didn’t check and just said that they come whenever the bakers decide to bake them and she doesn’t know when that is. Angel has the best GF options in the metro, but it doesn’t feel worth the drive if there isn’t predictability and there is indifferent customer service.
Their donuts are so. Good. They look like total sugar bombs, but Angel Food does a really good job of balancing the sweetness. Everything is good.
Very busy (opening weekend), but definitely worth the wait. Donuts are a perfect balance of sweet (but not too sweet), chewy, and flavorful. Glad to have such a great place in SLP.
Wonderful donuts! Best in the business. Gorgeous shop. Family-friendly. Don’t miss it!
Great addition to the neighborhood!!! Yummy bakery goodies... Coffee bar too. Will return for sure.
Raised donuts were totally taste-less! I was thinking maybe we just got a batch with a missing ingredient, but see you have other similar reviews. Frosting tasted like sugar cookie frosting. Save your time and visit Yoyo, Wuollets, Lunds, Jerrys or even a gas station instead!
Great treats and coffee. A welcome addition to the neighborhood. Try the Napoleon Doughnapart (cronut) or the Saturday morning cartoon donut with fruity pebbles sprinkles.
FrioFrio sounded like a fun outing on a Sunday night, but a $1.50 AF Surcharge randomly added to our bill was a punch to the gut. Surcharges are meant to be an alternative to tipping. Why am I supposed to tip someone setting a popsicle down on a tray? This is basically theft and left a terrible taste in my mouth.
Excellent bakery with plenty of variety. The staff are dedicated and focused on turning out a tasty product from quality ingredients. The crueller is a classic for sure. And the pretzels are large and equally flavorful and not too bready. Great flavor with a doughy and airy texture. The prices are reasonable as well. I wish this bakery was walking distance from my house!
Food is expensive for recipes ripped straight off the internet.Only thing worth ordering is gluten friendly donuts (if you are gluten sensitive) or cronuts.(Also treated employees poorly at its offshoot location)
Still the best in town (even if its now in a different town).
Great donuts and coffee. Such a good addition to St Louis Park!
Delectable unique donut cake. My daughter was ecstatic and though it was shipped it was packaged very well and was very fresh. This cake did not disappoint a sweet tooth lover of my thirteen year old. I love how unique this was and how beautiful the cake was. Bakery delivered on time and was very efficient in sending updated information in regards to order. Even with the holiday rush we received with no issues.
Great new space and the donuts were great.
Amazing! Can’t go wrong with the donuts… any kind!
Short and sweet: Angel Food Bakery was incredible for our wedding day!We did a dessert table with a small cake, cupcakes and donuts, and everything was phenomenal. Beyond the delicious treats, the team at Angel Food was organized, detail-oriented, and responsive throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend them to anyone, whether they are just looking for a bakery for a quick fix, birthday cake, or a large event. The picture should speak for itself!
I work with Angel Food Bakery every week in my job at Industrious (a shared office where we provide these delicious treats!) They are so easy to work with and our members LOVE their donuts and scones. We get a fresh delivery on time, every time, twice per week. They make holidays, celebrations and special days effortless, by customizing without the need to ask. We LOVE Angel Food Bakery!
Wish there were more treats without sprinkles. I am not a sprinkle fan not e enough when I was a kid.
Sunny cheerful atmosphere, the donuts were delicious
Great treats, coffee and service!
I live above the bakery and the smells every morning were my guilty pleasure. The maple bacon doughnut was my families favorite item of mine to take over when Im trying to enjoy it with my coffee. They are deeply missed.
Awesome place for treats!
This is a fantastic bakery!! As an event planner, I have had some clients order from Angel Food Bakery, and their products always look and taste amazing!! Plus, its so awesome that they offer dietary restrictive options, so I know who to recommend. I dont follow a gluten-free or vegan diet, but I had the opportunity to try their Chocoholic Birthday Cake in the Gluten-Free and Vegan option, and I was pleasantly shocked by how amazing it looked and tasted - I have tasted some truly awful gluten free and vegan baked goods, but Angel Food Bakery has truly amazing bakers who dazzle with deliciousness!! :)
I so wanted to love this place. Ive had co-worker raving about how good they are. I was underwhelmed. I ordered 6 different doughnuts and was really only impressed with 1, peppermint bark. As for the basic glazed I prefer Krispy Kreme at half the cost and fresh from the oven. They all tasted slightly dry. It was a weekend morning I dont know if that had anything to do with it, but I will try them again.Second time around: Much better experience than the first time. The crueller is soooo good. That alone made the visit worth it. I also tried their cookies, and cupcakes, both winners.
Best donuts around. The crueller is out of this world, but I am partial to them. Also love the dough apart and their bacon donut. A majority of the rest ive tried and scones were also good. The only thing I would not recommend are the frosted donut styles without bacon, especially chocolate frosting. Coffee is pretty weak, but the mocha is better.
We ordered a ton of donuts for our wedding and they really came through for us. Chris was really easy to get a hold of and was professional and organized. As soon as we went in for a tasting, we knew we had to go with Angel Food Donuts!!! Delicious donuts, and the set up really wowed our guests!
Angel Food Bakery & Coffee Bar is a delicious downtown institution right above Hells Kitchen (also a delicious downtown institution). After walking by several times staring in the windows at the delicious looking concoctions and smelling the delicacies, I stopped by to purchase several. The selection was incredible and varied and the displays were inviting. After making my choices I asked about allergy friendly options expecting a polite no instead receiving a tour of the case and all of the relevant selections plus an invitation to taste as well. The staff was very friendly and I really enjoyed the music selections playing to boot.
Absolutely some of the best donuts in a city with some great donuts options. The Cloud 9 lemon bismark, chocolate raspberry, blueberry lime, all were amazing and delicious. You can tell the bakery loves what they do and put care and effort into what they produce. The donut counter display looks like something out of donut heaven.
I love this bakery! Best donuts in Minneapolis. Words can’t describe how good their chocolate donuts are
Angel Food Bakery prepared a variety of lovely desserts for our wedding this past weekend - from the beautiful presentation to the delicious taste, everything about our wedding dessert bar was an absolute hit! Included in our dessert bar was a variety of flavors of mini cupcakes, donuts, brownie bites, cookies & a donut cake for our cake cutting pictures! Angel Food managed delivering all of the desserts & dessert platters to our reception venue and even set everything up day of! We worked with Chris from AFB and he was extremely easy to communicate with and provided really great recommendations for us throughout the process. I would highly recommend Angel Food Bakery for any engaged couple looking to have a unique dessert offering at your wedding with a variety of yummy options for your guests!
We hired Angel Food to do the cake and desserts for our wedding in October. Chris was amazing to work with! We had a selection of their mini desserts (donuts, cupcakes, parfaits) and everyone was raving about how delicious they were. The only thing I am disappointed about is that I wasnt able to taste any! By the time I got to the dessert table, everything was gone. Our personal cake was fabulous. It looked and tasted fantastic. My husband and I couldnt agree on a flavor so we had a two tier cake, each tier a different flavor. After our initial order, my husband decided he didnt want a cake, just a giant donut. I emailed Chris and we surprised him with a giant donut cake to accompany our actual wedding cake.I highly recommend hiring Chris and Angel Food to do any event you are hosting.
The food is gorgeous and I wanted to love the six donuts we chose, but I wasnt a giant fan of the tastes and textures. The donuts were not very sweet, a bit greasy and the filling in the Boston Cream was gritty and rubbery for lack of a better term. I was hoping my taste buds were just off, but my hubby wasnt a giant fan either.
Super Good Cakes!! We order them at our office frequently, and they have never disappointed. I dont think they have a lot to offer in the way of savory baking treats, so make sure you want a donut or cupcake if you stop in!
We ordered mini donuts, cookie dough brownie bar bites, and an assortment of cookies for our wedding! So yummy!! We got tons of compliments from guests on the variety. They even had vegan and gluten free options. Chris was great to work with! They forgot to send the platter displays but luckily we had backups. Everything worked out great!
Its a shame they dont sell coffee anymore, because they had the best cappuccino downtown.I did enjoy my donut overall, but I dont have such a sweet tooth anymore. I understand their prices are steep for being from scratch, but being my donut was 5 dollars its more of a special occasion type place. But without espresso to accompany it, I probably wont venture back.
While visiting the Minneapolis airport, my son and I treated ourselves to a fresh baked donut, but little did I know what wonderful customer service we would experience. We ordered our donuts and sat down at the counter to enjoy them and to watch the gentleman who was icing the fresh donuts. After a minute, he asked my son what kind he was eating and he said with a smile, “I’m going to make you a fresh one.” My son’s face lit up as he dipped a warm donut in maple icing and then drizzled it with warm chocolate. His thoughtful gesture left a lasting impression. I hope his manager sees this review and can thank him on our behalf. June 28, 2018 at the airport location 9am.
The prices are sort of high and the staff is apathetic 40 percent of the time, at least in my experience. Out of 10 visits, I was ignored when staff was available or not even greeted for so long I walked out without spending any money. Their treats are tasty tho. Their logo design is fantastic. They should have some evening hours they close so early. That is their biggest downside in my eyes.
Angel Food was so easy to work with and lived up to their advice that planning and arranging your desserts should be the funnest part of the wedding! They were so accommodating and helpful, and the desserts were delicious (so we hear, they were gone by the time we got to the dessert table!) We absolutely recommend them!
Very small location but the amazing pastries make up for it. Definitely a place to stop at if you are here. Loved it. Super cute area to drink coffee.
We went with Angel Food to cater our wedding and it was amazing. We had a dessert bar (Im not much of a traditional cake person) and I cannot tell you how many people complimented us on the desserts. All the desserts were unique and looked as perfect as an Instagram post — as well as being totally delicious!
Tried this place with my niece. I was nervous it would be crazy expensive but the prices are in line with other high end bakeries in the area. We went at 3pm on Saturday and they were out of donuts. We got two delicious cupcakes and hot cocoa. The staff was very kind and clearly passionate about baking. My niece loves baking so had fun learning from them.
The donut and cookie I got were amazing. The best Ive ever had! The service was wonderful too!
I love this place. Best donuts in the downtown zone, and I cant say enough great things about their products. They have gluten free options that dont taste like wet paste, and their wide variety of donuts will sure to offer something for everyone. Decent coffee selection as well to complete your morning routine
I’ve been here a few times and always enjoy my experience. The vibe of the place is just so neat (especially since it’s next to hell’s kitchen) and they’re always fast and friendly. Great food too! I got my partner the “I love you” donuts last year for valentine’s day and they were a hit.
I really love this place. My family only gets donuts once a year and this place never disappoints. All their donuts are fantastic. The food always looks just as good as it tastes too. It’s a little pricier than most bakeries but it’s well worth it.
Angel food catered our wedding and they did an amazing job. My number in guests dropped and there was still hardly and dessert left. I was complimented by almost all my guest on how amazing our mini dessert buffet was. If you want something fun and delicious for your wedding desserts this is the place to go!!
This place is by far my favorite spot in Minneapolis for sweet treats! Donuts, cupcakes, you can’t go wrong. Website is super easy to navigate and order from. Great service too - highly recommend!!
We hired Angel Food Bakery for our wedding dessert and they did an amazing job! Chris was so nice to work with and quick to respond to questions. They delivered and set-up a beautiful donut display with the prettiest cake stands. Everyone commented on how good they were and they even set aside a small box for us to take home at the end of our wedding. Nice touch!
Ive tried most donut locations in downtown and this place does it best. Yes, they are more expensive than some other bakeries, but the quality of ingredients and creativity behind their creations show. Easily worth 10-15 minute detours to stop in.
I used them for my wedding, they cater a dessert bar. I had 10 different options. I had 3 cookies, 3 parfait,3 donuts ans 1 brownie. It all taste amazing.
We stopped by in the airport location on 6/10/19 at 8:40pm, and the worker wouldnt serve us. He said they were closed. Thought the place didnt close until 9pm. Doors were still open. He was really rude and we were of course disappointed. Im sure the donuts would have been delicious though. Just disappointed in the service!******************Update - the owner reached out and sincerely apologized and made the situation correct. I will definitely give them a try and support the family-run business. Hopefully just an off night or a bad day for the worker there when myself and my family tried before.
I don’t know about the regular doughnuts, but the gluten free doughnuts are perfect! Seriously!! They have a good amount of options too. You have to come in the morning before they’re sold out though. By the afternoon they are normally all gone. That’s how good they are! The coffee is also good for the price.
If you are in the mood for some artisan donuts this is the place to get them! (Maple glazed bacon donut, need I say more). They also have other great pastries one better then the next. Cant really go wrong. The place has a nice vibe to it. The kitchen is in full view.
I placed a fairly large order a couple of days in advance and everything was ready by my chosen pick-up time and i received nothing but compliments about the donuts and cupcakes! would highly recommend, especially if youre looking for vegan options.
We ordered the ‘Happy Birthday’ doughnuts for our October birthdays. We live across the country and had them shipped, they arrived perfectly intact and wrapped for a beautiful presentation. The doughnuts themselves were a huge hit, and the birthday people loved their unique ‘Cake’. I would highly recommend and will definitely be ordering again!
Continuously some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced - and Ive been going back with hope to try and give multiple chances over the course of two solid years. Unfortunately, nothing has changed or improved. The quality of product is good - nothing that takes your breath away, though. The service is what would keep me coming back - and frankly, theres just as good of product quality, for tremendously better service within a few blocks.
Angel Food Bakery catered our dessert table for our wedding....Everything was beautiful and our guests were amazed at the variety of desserts (mini donuts, mini parfaits, mini cupcakes), and they threw in a cutting cake so we had a cake to cut... ....Prices are more than reasonable for the amount and choices of desserts you can choose from...Other places were going to charge MORE then Angel Food did for our ENTIRE dessert bar, just for a two tiered wedding cake! Well definitely be useing them again and we tell anyone that will listen all about them...lol! :)
Best gluten free donuts I’ve ever tasted! The selection is amazing and the prices are lower than other competition.
Frequent this place. Such a fun atmosphere! Always something new/unique, but even the plain donuts are amazing. Their pretzels and savory scones are awesome, too. And I love that everything is made with the basics -sugar, flour, butter, etc. They home make everything from scratch- even like chocolate icing and the vanilla syrup for drinks.Speaking of which, their coffee bar is fantastic, too. They use local Peace Coffee, which is a huge plus. Definitely a go-to place for a coffee, or a latte.Ive ordered several cakes and cupcake orders from Angel Food. Like 6 or so. I have never had a problem in ordering or delivery. And to say the cakes have been a crowd pleaser would be a huge understatement. ((If you like lemon meringue, you HAVE to try the Luscious Lusty Lemon in cake or cupcake form!))Cant say enough positive things! These guys really know their art!
Purchased a mini chocolate glazed donut that was very dry, not at all chocolatey/flavorful and basically tasted like it was days old (my family runs a bakery so I’m familiar with what fresh donuts should taste like). Maybe it was just a bad day for them but I hope they’re not serving days old donuts.
My sister, (in from FL) is gluten free, and found this bakery online, ordered donuts and cupcakes for my surprise birthday party. Half of the cupcakes were gluten free. Donuts and cupcakes are dry, fell apart. Variety of flavors were the only thing good. The next day ended up throwing most of the leftovers away, because they were even more dry and hard.
Some of the best donuts around, many varieties. The cakes are out of this world, so good never buying another cake from any other bakery.
I work in the same building as Angel Food and usually love their stuff! Specially their soft pretzels. I get to work pretty early and I know that they dont put the pretzels out until a little later. Today I got the opportunity to go on break and run over there. I ordered the specialty soft pretzel (and a glazed donut for my boyfriend, his favourite). I realized when I requested them that I had forgotten my card upstairs and excused myself and told him Id be right back. I got back to work and got caught up in a couple of calls so I sent my boyfriend back maybe 10 minutes later with my card and they had totally sold out of the pretzels! I LOVE their product, everything is so cute and I love watching them bake while I wait but today, that really sucked! Wish they could have put one of those aside since I said I would be right back. Ill be back, trust me, but Ive experienced them selling out of those pretzels fast in the past before, so maybe up-ing their numbers?
Donuts were very pretty and unique. They arent anything special in the taste department. The coffee and other goodies are a fun experience to share with friends.
Took my girlfriend to angel food before work on Valentines day because they always have a great assortment of baked goods and we live close and visit quite often. All they had was boring donuts and boring cupcakes. I guess the goal is to increase margins on the holiday, but Ill never go back again. We spent $9 on the most genetic baked goods Ive ever had from a bakery. Enjoy the $9 because well never give another dime to this place.
Really delicious cakes that are beautiful as well! We did a cake bar at our wedding, so we had 8 different flavored cakes (including a small, white wedding cake) that people could choose from. We got so many compliments on the flavor types, the cake presentation, and the overall quality- they were a huge hit! The reason I give 4/5 stars is that we were supposed to have gold paint on the cake that we were going to cut, and it turned out to be more of an unappetizing yellowy/orange color. The other cakes were so beautiful that it didnt make a huge difference, but it was still slightly disappointing. Overall, I would recommend the team here and their work.
