Up until actually picking my photos up I had a great experience. I had a few questions beforehand that were handled via email and the responses were really helpful. However, when I went in to pick them up they couldn’t find them, and I was asked three times by the same person if I was the one who dropped them off and three times I confirmed that it was me. He then asked if I was sure it wasn’t my dad who dropped it off, this felt pretty misogynistic and honestly just left a sour taste in my mouth especially after confirming multiple times that i was the person who physically dropped them off. He didn’t apologize or anything once he found them, which is okay…but it was upsetting that even after confirming multiple times the default is that a random woman had her dad drop it off? Developing my disposable ended up being $17.95 (for emailed scans only not printed) and took a week, I would recommend looking at other online services if this is the only service you are looking at since it will likely be more affordable and the same turnaround time.

Rental prices are affordable. Not a lot of stock due to... You know, the pandemic and places not making products and shipping from Japan and other countries being limited.But staff was great and I look forward to a lens purchase!!

West Photo was not only able to shrink our picture down to a size perfect for my nieces locket, but they also did it in a timely fashion, for an extremely reasonable price, and with a friendly and professional attitude (everyone). This is one of the Mom and Pop stores that we should all be supporting. Thank you, West Photo - excellent job and service!

I emailed West Photo about a product I was looking for. A sales person got back to me very quickly with product information and an estimate. Old school. Being new to macro photography, I didnt know much about it. Ken was extremely helpful in explaining it to me, and very patient in answering my question. He helped me pick out the right camera for the type of photos I wanted to take, and the prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend West Photo.

Great selection

The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful with any questions or problems you have. I just inherited my grandfathers film camera that had not been used in over 20 years. I had also never used a film camera that wasnt disposable. Thanks to the folks at West Photo, I can now feel more connected to my grandfather and I cant wait to get my photos developed.

It seemed nobody wanted to help me and I got tossed back and worth with who to work with because they were on their phones and couldn’t bother. The guy i finally talked to was very belittling and acted as if I was wrong about the problem I had. He even gave out a little laugh when I tried to further explain the problem that I was having with my camera. Also noticed a couple employees didn’t have masks on.

Big shout out to the super friendly staff at West Photo for an excellent deal and top customer service while we were visiting from out of town. I found some really nice used equipment that was a very good value too!

We don’t go anywhere else in the Twin Cities for photo equipment needs. The whole crew here are exceptional at what they do making West Photo one of those rare local gems where relationships matter and you can really trust you’re in good hands.

During the pandemic, West Photo has a table outside the door with a staff member who will grab what you need from inside the store. I had some really dumb basic camera questions and they were happy to help me out and sell me some film. They werent snobs about my lack of knowledge. Good prices on film too.

I just called in and talked to Sean. He was very helpful in answering some questions that I had about a Rode wireless lavalier microphone. Although he didnt have the microphone I was looking for in stock, he took the time to recommend a couple of places that I could get in.

West Photo is by far the best to go to for inkjet photo printing paper. They have an entire room dedicated to the largest selection of multiple brands of paper in all sizes available. No other camera store in the metro area can match the selections that are available!

They are setup well for our current pandemic. I simply needed my cameras sensor cleaned, and was able to drop it off with them at a table outside and picked it up a couple days later at the same table.

West Photo is a professional photography store. That said, they welcome anyone that is interested in photography regardless of skill level. You will not find a better camera store in MN. They will treat you well and will sell you the right camera for your needs. Not one that that is just popular. The staff has years of experience and the wealth of knowledge that comes with experience. You can trust their opinion.

This is one of the long standing camera stores in the Midwest. Thay have a great selection of lighting and backdrops. Trypods are on display so you can get a feel for how they will work for you situation. Thay have a parkinlote in front of the store. Diffenitly stop in and take a look around.

Got my Fujifilm Xt-30 here and some done of my negatives processed. They were very helpful for both. Though I did not receive my digital via the provided USB they fixed it quickly and I still got them fast.

Check your purchases, people.Extremely helpful staff. Ive had all good experiences and one questionable one - maybe more of an existential realization - which, I feel, needs to be shared.Checking through used lenses on their website (which is well managed and easy to use as well!), I found a used tele lens for almost 30% off MSRP listed as Like New.I hustled over only to find that it did not come with original packaging or accessories (largely typical for a Like New listing) and, most significantly, there was a not insignificant blemish on an internal element. I didnt make the purchase and recommended that the listing be changed, but was given the explanation of Like New only referencing a lens that was, objectively, absolutely NOT like new by most criteria.Now, Im not going to presume intent, but this listing did get me in the store and I did walk away with a pair of gloves for my father-in-law. A simple experience like this sours my perception of most places, but Im not going to write off West Photo just yet. Well see how the next visit goes

The folks at West Photo will go out of their way to not only answer your question but to help you get an understanding about the set up or the gear you had a question about.Rentals are well priced, used gear is reasonable - I will always go to West Photo for my photo gear.

Ordered online. Uploaded photos and selected print sizes. Easy smooth ordering system. I printed photo from iPhone 6 and quality was really good.

West has been my go-to place for camera gear and product knowledge for the last 6 years. The first time I stepped into the store, I was a bit of a hack and barely knew what I needed, but found everything I was looking for at their well-supplied rental counter. Paul is my salesman of choice, and every time I visit I leave feeling like he has taught me something I hadnt learned before. Given the two choices you have for camera gear in the Twin Cities, West should be your choice if you plan on becoming a regular or if you just want to be confident that the person behind the counter knows all that there is to know.

West Photo is a one of a kind store to me. They will treat you very kindly like a friend (or at least to me). They have a big selection on new stuff from Sigma to Canon. They have everything. For used, dont expect to find too much. Classes here are informative and worth going to. The only issue for West Photo are their weird hours, making it challenging to go to as a High School student outside of the downtown area, making next to impossible to get to and leave due to rush hour and short hours.

This is the best camera store to receive honest, knowledgeable and non-bias answers to all photo equipment. I recently visited a local competitor, only to be treated by the sales person as if I was buying a used car. I don’t know for sure, but it feels as if West Photo employees are on salary and not paid by commission. This makes for a more positive experience when shopping. Several times West Photo matched or beat an online price. Im very grateful to have this store in the twin cities. I see that other customer reviews indicate that a W.P. sales person felt rude. Have they ever shopped at a large metropolitan store before (NY, LA, Chicago)? Perhaps not all employees need to be fake and pretend to be your best friend and attempt to sell you something you dont need. I hope that they get over it and see that this store stocks the highest quality gear and employs sales staff that know what they are talking about.

Rude staff. Also every time Ive brought my film there they have turned out blank somehow but when i bring them to Walgreens its fine.

Having worked in a similar environment in a different city, I go to West Photo because it really is the only Professional store in town. Between their courtesy, honesty and knowledge, Im grateful they are still open. Oh, and I do plan on sending any new photographers there as well.

I purchased a new camera lens here today and I was impressed on how much equipment they have in store and how friendly the staff was. This will be my new go to place for camera equipment.

If you like photography, you will like West. I use their rentals frequently. Great weekend prices and pretty good gear. It seems like they have updated some of it recently. Very knowledgeable staff.

I wanted to purchase a lens last minute. West was open way earlier than National Camera, so I called them and they had what I needed in stock! They put it on hold for me, and I drove there to get it. Someone came up to help me right away and went back to get my lens. He was very friendly and helpful - dont have a single bad thing to say about the whole experience.

This is a great place to rent and buy gear. I started going here in 2007 the day after the 35W bridge collapse. I rented a Nikon D200. The staff can be a little tough to understand. What do I mean by that? Some people are not the most friendly. But, hey, Im there to rent gear, not make a dinner date. Over time and learning, I bought several lenses and finally bought a Nikon D800. I bought from them because you dont get the quality of service online than you do building a relationship with a local place. They do not disappoint.

I have always had a great experience at West Photo and have used them for years, both personally and professionally. I would highly recommend them.

I rented the Atlas slider to take some sliding video shots. I didnt check it closely upon pickup. I took the slider on site the day of shooting and we learned that because of the amount of play in the slider, it was difficult to get a smooth shot unless the slider was perfectly level. Even the slightest slant would cause the motion to have a bump because the slider shifted on the track and did not ride smooth. That ruined every shot we tried to take with it. We only had a Canon 5d, with a 16-35mm lens on it, not much weight at all. I tried to explain that to the salesperson but she just said that everybody else uses it fine, and that it has a lot of use so I cant expect it to be perfect. How can that be an excuse for the equipment not working properly?! If I cant expect a slider to slide smoothly and securely, without bumping around, what is the point of using a slider?After I expressed my frustration and asked for my rental fee to be returned, she only offered to discount me half of the fee. I was too tired to argue, but I believe they deserve this honest review. I hope someone else can be saved the trouble I went through.

I come here very often to get my film developed. Ive worked with every person at West Photo, with the exception of those in charge of Rentals, and I can say with full confidence that the staff is kind, knowledgeable and helpful.With film, I work a lot with Sharon. She has a quick two-day turnaround (if you bring film in on a Tuesday, for example, itll be ready Thursday after 4pm) and is always willing to answer any questions. Equipment prices are fair, though it is rare for them to carry any lenses for my Canon AE-1.For film purchases, youre better off buying from Amazon due to West Photos expensive price tags BUT for the service, this place is awesome.

They earned my trust by confirming and recommending for me a replacement Nikon body that I had already decided on, instead of pushing the most expensive stuff on the shelf.They had no idea I am a professional, and I didnt tell them. While visiting some MN friends to see the state fair, I was traveling with a new Fujifilm X-T3 in order to learn the camera functions in preparation for an upcoming trip (I’m normally a Canon DSLR shooter). After looking at reviews, I came into West Photo to see their Fuji lens selection. As someone who is new to the Fuji lineup, I had lots of questions. The staff at West Photo was extremely helpful and knowledgeable! I was able to bring in my camera body and, thanks to their extensive rental lens inventory, test out roughly 8 different X-mount lenses. They allowed me to take my time feeling out the options, taking photos indoors and outside. I ended up spending roughly $1,200 on some GREAT glass (FUJIFILM XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR Lens), and some new UV filters. I spoke to 4 employees during my time there, all of whom were helpful and had opinions on Fujifilm bodies and lenses that helped steer me in the right direction for my needs. I walked away very satisfied, and I would recommend this store to anyone looking to buy new or used gear from ALL major photo/video brands.

I have for over twenty years. Why would I not seek the lowest price from on online robot? When a lens goes down or a power pack blows up, West Photo follows through with amazing customer service. Fixing my gear in a flash, (so to speak), and often lending me a freebie to carry me over.West Photo is more than a store, they treat you like family and a friend.

Great equipment selection - worst customer service I have ever experienced. If you are not a card carrying professional photographer and I expect make this place your second home they do not seem to care. Waited for some 40 minutes while the clerks read catalogs or BSed with a photographer before I decided to take my business to some one who at least would acknowledge that I was in the store. Avoid this place, there are better places to spend your photography dollars.

Very friendly and generally understanding of circumstances wherein one may not be able to make it in after having photos developed, the staff sometimes is willing to make exceptions, be it mailing or online storage.

I got a new digital camera here and I love it! I take way too many pictures of my kid. Its probably because shes the cutest thing in the whole world. So I got a little tired of my only Sony cybershot digital camera and begged the boy to help find a new one for me. He brought me here. The staff was very friendly and we ended up with a smart, sweet woman that helped us find the perfect camera. She let us touch and play with everything. She told us pros and cons and let us take her picture a ton of times. The poor girl was probably blind the rest of the day! After considering all the pros and cons we went with a lovely Cannon powershot and were still really happy with it. She recommend useful accessories that were not overpriced useless items.And their store is filled with lots of other eye goodies too. I know I will be back to stock up on photo paper. And drool over real cameras.

This place is so awesome. I have rented lenses from them for the past year, and honestly didnt know of anywhere else to rent lenses and never had a bad experience so kept coming back. THEN all of a sudden today my Camera stopped working in the middle of a photoshoot. I brought it in and they helped me figure out what was wrong right away (luckily it was nothing detrimental, just a battery issue). They didnt charge me for looking at it, even after spending a good 20 minutes explaining what I could do to avoid this issue in the future. Theyre great and kind and helpful! I will always come back here.
