Dealership told my daughter it was the main rear seal and would be probably$1200. Starr said it was the oil pressure switch and did the associated repairs for $450. Always honest. In the past on other vehicles I have brought them they have turned me away because the issue was under recall and the dealer would replace it for free rather than me paying him.

Im a chick in my mid 20s who just got my first car, a 2002 junky runner. I have no clue about car maintenence and was wary of auto shops giving me the runaround (because honestly, Im way over my head and wouldnt know the difference). I called yesterday in a little bit of a panic and described the issues and repairs I had done over the span of 2 months. He confirmed my thoughts and I went to drive to over.My car died on the way, and I used their tow guy they recommend and that was a cheap and speedy experience as well, my car was dropped off just before Starrs closing time.I called this morning and the issue was already diagnosed and I was given a reasonable quote. First time customer referred by a friend. Really great service! The night-time drop off process was so easy, and I wrote a note explaining my car problems. The next day Jerry called me and gave feedback line by line on each thing. He gave me an honest assessment of what was worth fixing and what wasnt (I have a very old car). In the end, I spent much less than I was prepared to based on experiences with other mechanics and just fixed one of the issues (power steering). My car is driving amazing now and Im so happy!

Honest and excellent, speedy turn around time!

My steering wheel started to shimmy after the last snowstorm. On line search suggested bad tie rods. But Sean at Starr Automotive saw the snow packed into the passenger side wheel wells and said the shimmying will probably stop if I clean that out. He was right. Cost me nothing. But if Id gone somewhere else, you can bet it wouldve been hundreds in repairs. Thank you Sean!

I moved here to Minneapolis a while ago, and one of the first things I learned from my neighbors was that the best place in our neighborhood for car care was Starr Auto on E. Lake. For 2.5 years now they have proved to me to be the best car repair and maintenance place Ive ever been to. Always accommodating, friendly, flexible, efficient, thorough. Everything is explained, and they make sure you understand----communication is outstanding, in other words. I feel very fortunate to have them taking care of my cars.

Every time my husband and I take our car here we are blown away by the customer service and pricing. The cost of whatever service we have done is always about half of what I expect it to be (I guess I just expect to be ripped off), and the service is always above and beyond expectations in both quality and speed.

I am a Starr Automotive customer for life! My car was acting funny after being stuck in the snow several times in the April 2018 snow storm. I took it in to have them look at it. I just had too much snow in the wheel wells! They cleaned them out at no charge to me! I have taken my car there in the past and they have always been very reasonable and honest. It is small gestures that this that make me loyal and keep me coming back. I highly recommend them to everyone!

My car didnt start and I brought in the car with anticipation that the starter will need to be replaced. It turn out to be lose wires by the starter saving me a lot of money. They could have easily charged me for the starter as there is no way i would know, but they chose to be honest and now i am their client for life:) All of the other experiences with them has been exception. Outstanding service every time!Ive lived in the Twin Cities since 2001, and within two blocks of these guys for most of that time, but we just found them recently. I regret that we didnt try them first, because I dont remember the last time I felt such trust for a service station. They have been scrupulous about telling us when we did not need repairs, or that the repair would cost more than was reasonable, given the age of the car.On the other side of it, Ive always been satisfied with the work they *did* do, and the prices have always been extremely reasonable. They clearly stand by their motto of An honest repair at a fair price, which is why theyll have my business for as long as I live within reasonable driving distance of their shop.Jerry, I dont suppose we could persuade you to franchise your operation and mission statement, could I? I am very critical about who works on my vehicles, especially growing up having to learn how to do the basics like change oil, change and jump a battery, change a tire. I have done more extreme repairs on vehicles in the past so I know enough to describe a problem and have an idea about what I am being told. That being said, between my husband and I we have been bringing our vehicles to Jerry at Starr for over 20 years. Jerry has told me when I can do a repair and how much it would cost for them to do it. I trust them with my life as one does when they rely on a mechanic, many friends have reaped the rewards of getting service done at Starr, you should too!

How good was their work? Its hard to say. Back in late 2013, I had the camshaft seals, crank seal, and valve cover gaskets replaced on my NB Miata. Two years later, and *all* of them were leaking oil.Now, its certainly possible that all of these parts were defective -- life happens! -- but having to stomach a $775 repair (about $700 initially), just two years later, is pretty painful. Double so for parts that rarely fail and usually have a long lifetime.That said, the customer service was great and they were friendly and easy to work with. But its not worth the risk (to me) to have them service the car again.
