Overall I think the value that this place deliver is excellent. For a neighborhood restaurant I truly appreciate being able to come here and get a good home cooked meal.The venue definitely needs a resurface and I believe it definitely throws people off when you walk in.Food was excellent and at first you may be hesitant but it was great.Service: just like many other restaurants during this time, they were severely short staffed. They need at least 2-3 more people for their busy Saturday mornings.I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Once you get pass the appearance you will have a surprisingly pleasant experience.

We held our little brothers funeral repass at this facility.. It was very clean and neat. The service was with a smile.. The food was very delicious, I mean everything that was on the menu was good.. This was the first time Ive been to a repass and everything was good, to the point where I got seconds and took some home. They didnt rush us, they let us take our time. I will recommend this place to anybody that ask.

Ive been here a couple times and its always a good time. The food, particularly the breakfast foods, are absolutely delicious. Overall the place has a good vibe, and I definitely recommend visiting! I know Ill be back asap!

Food is usually good but this morning I picked up my order got all the way home and there was a red wig hair in my French toast. Ive been calling all morning and got no answer. I just gave up

I tried to call in a order they don’t pick up the phone. I walk over there because it’s around the corner so I came in and they said it will be a 45 minute wait to get my food so I ordered and when I came back 45 minutes later my food still not done. The guy told me he was going to check on the food he never did. I asked him should I came back for the food after waiting an hour and it’s still not ready it’s my fault

Generally this place has great food & service. However, as of the last month I have had nothing but disappointment with Coffee Makes you Black. They now have 45 min waiting time either way. Today Ive called this location for over 45 mins (30 outgoing to be exact) trying to place an order for pick up. I end up driving to the location to place my order to go & Im told its still a 45 mins wait, but they will take phone orders at 1pm and its currently 11:53am. Makes no sense because they close at 2pm. I just wouldnt recommend this organization until they are better staffed or prepare to serve the public.

I love supporting black owned businesses. The atmosphere was mellow and welcoming. The service was also great. There was a nice variety of food choices. The family and I enjoyed everything. The fried chicken was succulent and tasty. Fried green tomatoes, chicken and waffles, and the mac & cheese were all delicious. I would definitely visit again.

This place has a nice atmosphere and the staff is friendly but the service was sooooo slow. The coffee was great but I didn’t like any of the food we ordered. We had waffles salmon patties grits eggs pancakes and more. I’m giving them 4 stars because unlike me, my date was happy with the food.

Tasty! Highly recommend the chicken and waffles, as well as the catfish with loaded cheesy potatoes. Salmon patties, biscuit and grits were good, too. Cooked the eggs exactly as I asked.

Amazing food!! Looking forward to construction on Teutonia Ave being done near or shortly after the new year in Jan 2020 when more people will be able to come without navigating nearby construction. Construction was affecting business in Sep/Oct 2019 and an event was shared with THOUSANDS of people coming to grab food from here. Hope to see them stay open and flourish once construction is normal again!!

This is a nice freindly coffee shop that also sells short order breakfast. It has a nice atmosphere with a historical and activist theme that inspires. On top of that the coffee was really good and the staff pleasantly attentive without being over the top

Food was hot and fresh. Eggs cooked just the way I like it . Requested my fish fried hard and it was perfectly juice ( smile). The staff is pleasant and the atmosphere was relaxing .

I went here for a late breakfast and had a wonderful, fresh omelet with the works. It comes with toast. I also ordered turkey sausage and salmon cakes. The salmon cakes were made to order. Very delicious! The restaurant has nice art and a great vibe! Id love to visit again! I wish Id taken pictures but I gobbled it up before I remembered!

Excellent American breakfast with a few soul food flares to make it unique. Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is laid back. Would totally be 4 stars if food service was faster. Never a wait to be seated but can easily wait 30 plus to get your meal. Take some reading materials and you will be fine.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee! The art, the service, the jazz music in the background, the families and friends that frequent the place, and the chicken and waffles--all will bring you soul-deep happiness :). Ive been coming here on average twice a month since moving to the city two years ago, and its been great to get to know the staff, to have warm smiles welcome me and remember my order, and to share this gem with friends and family who come for a visit. The chicken and waffles are to die for! Dont take my word for it - try it out! :)

Great meeting place, food, and atmosphere. The chicken is divine and I love the use of space. Beautiful. The servers adorn the Pan-African flag on their aprons and the service is sufficient. A cultural gem in a much needed neighborhood. I hope the blueprint is modeled in other parts of Milwaukee.

This place is awesome. Had the catfish, eggs, and grits and loved it. Came at a really busy time but the wait was completely worth it! Enjoyed the atmosphere as well with all the art hanging on the walls.

We were visiting from Lithopolis Oh. and the Fried chicken wings, waffles all the food was very good, mango tea was tasty, and we enjoyed the art. The staff was friendly and gave great service. Our family had a amazing time.

Very very slow service, but the staff was friendly. The serving size of the food doesnt match the prices and the presentation of the food was sloppy. Yet the food did taste alright.

Consistently some of the best soul food in the state! Particular fan of the chicken and waffles and their tea - Ive gotten their catfish and grits too, which was delicious. Theyre not the fastest place in the world, but the spot is much more about the atmosphere and socializing with the people you came with. Enjoy your tea and company!

Customer service was very poor. The wait time just to be acknowledge was longer than normal. Our waitress didnt really have a clue on what to do but thats not her fault. When the food finally did come we got pancakes that were very hard we couldnt eat them we even sent them back and got the same thing on the new set. The chicken and waffles were good. I just cant take the chance of ever going back.

My first experience here and everything was incredible. I love the atmosphere and smooth music along with a great welcoming feel. London was both friendly and consistent with making sure I had everything I needed. I ordered the delicious chicken n waffles and fried potatoes and both were mind blowing! Hot fresh syrup and more than enough to get you through your meal. Laurie the owner was a delight and very personable. A great way to both start and end your trip in Milwaukee. A true experience.

Theres no big Pizzazz in the breakfast. Ordinary things that I can make at home. They say support your own Ive tried Ive done I did.. maybe Im being petty but everyone doesnt have time to sit in and eat I dont understand why there is a $0.50 charge for a to-go order. Lmk

The service was very minimal because they had rented the venue to a group of individuals who were having a meeting, Which was loud and intrusive!The food finally came and I was disappointed yet again. Ordered chicken & waffles and a chicken wrap. It came with the tomatoes that I asked to be removed! Average at best...I would’ve been more satisfied if grandma woulda just cooked for us at home 🤷🏽‍♀️Not totally opposed to supporting again simply because it’s black owned.. next time I’ll just order a muffin & coffee or something light.

Man listen, went here for breakfast on a Thursday had the Salmon pattie breakfast smh OFF. THE. CHAIN. So much so I had to go back the next day and had the chicken and waffles! AGAIN nothing short of amazing!! Service was GREAT! Staff was very friendly! The atmosphere is diverse and laid back! I could definitely go in here have coffee, breakfast and read a book or go and have an intimate conversation and meal! Im mad at myself it took me THIS long to visit this place. It is definitely a new favorite!! Probably will be back today. 🌻

The name itself draws attention. This establishment serves much more than coffee. They do have food specials and daily deals. It is also a black owned establishment with history on the walls, various unique finds, and cultural connections with positive interactions. 5 Stars!

Coffee Makes You Black is a good restuarant establishment that provides good customer service, and very good food. My suggestion would be to improve the dining area experience. New tables and chairs that are one design would be my suggestion.
