This is our favorite out of town bookstore. A few years back they hosted one of our favorite authors. The atmosphere is warm & inviting & their book selection is 👩‍🍳💋. This past visit my bf picked out a book for my daughter so she can narrate our trip to Salem this fall. My other child found a poetry book that spoke to their soul & I walked out with my prized Parks & Rec talking waffle, everyone was a winner!

Boswell Book Company was a very nice book store. We drove over 3 hours tonight just so we could see Veronica Roth and purchase her new book. If they have her back again, we will definitely be there! I hope to return someday when I finish my own books. This book store is definitely worth checking out! Lots of options and everything is in great condition. If we lived in Milwaukee, this would be our usual stop. The staff was very nice and fun to spend time around. The owner was also really great. Check it out if you get a chance.

With the convenience of the internet, physical books might seem to be completely unnecessary. However, there is something about reading books that feels different. Its a form of meditation I believe. Going to bookstore might inspire you to join the family of readers. This bookstore on downer is no exception. I was pleasantly surprised to see their collection on different topics. I found a lot of books that where interesting and it was hard to resist not to buy. Their friendly staff and volunteers help to find books and gift-wrapped them. I enjoyed my visit and I would go back.

I should have asked when I called. Person on the phone was great BTW, just did not mention the hours. Such a great book store. If you love books boy theyve gottem. My name is Roger Browning. Author of The Reckoning of Rance, a modern day family saga of dysfunction and troubled inheritance gone wrong. Its setting that of a Texas ranch, but could have been just about anywhere of like kind it represents. Well enough of that. We came to know this store before the time of the pandemic while on a family trip up to the Dells and then on . it is a readers dream. I wish to one day have one of my books sitting their shelves it is that good of a store and the manager there so wonderful I recall. It must be rough for the book lover who loves to fumble their way through the inventory that this store has to offer, with all of the pandemic rules needed placed. I hope this store well because of my love for it and them there. I am a rancher born and bred of Texas, but my love has always been writing and I have written a few hundred novels just because. By chance a publisher visited my ranch to hunt the wild hog so prevalent. I showed him a page of one that I was working on at the time and wrote him three more after in the next few weeks afterward. A lot of interesting books. Lovely handwritten descriptions for some of them. Some toys and souvenirs. Good postcards with old Milwaukee views. Very friendly staff.The only problem was that it was too hot inside the shop and not enough oxygen. So I had to leave it sooner than I wanted.

A real bookstore with a big selection. Well read and able to make recommendations. If they dont have the book they can order it. Author visits and signed copies are available.

Everywhere I travel, I look for local bookstores to visit. This is one of my top favorites!!! It’s beautiful, inviting, well laid out, with a friendly staff, and tons of written recommendations everywhere. They also had a nice selection of “Boswell Bargain” books. They have some fantastic sections aside from the usual, “book clubs,” “indie,” and “support local” to make a few, as well as a fantastic kids/young adult area. Plenty of comfy spots to sit if you want to stay and soak it up awhile. Definitely worth a visit!

Local reading clubs meet there.Special orders are easy. Excellent customer service, in-person or in-store - and WHAT A STORE! Spacious, well laid out; Boswells (before COVID) invites browsing, with good lighting and comfortable seats at random. They still have browsing with COVID-adjusted hours and capacities!Grab a coffee at the integrated Starbucks (or the locally owned Stone Creek Coffee on the next block). Its a lovely spot for the bibliophile or the casual reader.

This is the best bookstore in Milwaukee. Independent. Great selection. Beautiful atmosphere. Author visits. Small used book section and stationery. Lots of little touches, like staff recommendations and local selections. Theyll order anything you need, if they dont have it in stock.

I pre-ordered a copy of a signed book from my favorite author months ago on Amazon and my order got lost in the mail. I called Boswell on a whim, hoping they had signed copies of this particular book. They did, and I was able to pick up the book that afternoon! With a sale they were running, the book was actually cheaper than the price online. I will definitely be buying from them again in the future instead of Amazon.

I love this store, it has all the feels of a small family owned book store, and the customer service of a big chain. Just ordered 3 books from them and got a surprise free book. They have curbside pick up set up in covid-19 response, it is super quick and easy!

Great place

This place has *such* a wonderful spirit. If you walk in here, and remember Websters at all, you will feel right at home.If youve no idea what Websters was, and/or have never been to an independent bookseller, you will still feel at home.They have a great selection of books, a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and you feel like they want you to come in, hang out, and take your time selecting a book. Thats a rare thing today.All that being said, there are so few independant booksellers these days, you have to love Boswell just because of that. Check out out, its a really neat place to find a book to love.

I travel a lot for work and try to visit bookstores in the evenings. Boswells is the BEST bookstore of them all. Not to big and not to small. And always a great selection of books and amazing service.

It was so cozy in there. They have all sorts of books from traveling books to childrens books. The staffs were nice as well. I am going to go back and take my time in there. I think itll be worth it.

I really love this book store. Since I moved to Milwaukee I have frequented this place for all of my book needs. They have a great selection of new and pre-owned books. They host some really great author events as well. If they dont have what youre looking for they will order a copy for you. Cant recommend it enough.

Just a really charming, fun book store with personality. There are little book reviews by the staff under various titles with individual personalities showing through which really give the place and the books themselves character.Even though there are cheaper places or places with bigger selections to go shopping for books, Boswell is a special place. You can go in even if you dont know what you want, and as long as you know you want to read, come out happy with a fantastic book.

My favorite book store in Milwaukee (and I LOVE book stores). I love their loyalty program - you get a coupon for spending a certain amount of money. I also love that they feature local and national authors to speak at the shop. One of my favorite things is to browse their bargain books - I have found some amazing reads this way!

The best that an indie bookstore could offer is here! Excellent staff, a full author appearance schedule, magnificent selection, and impressive community involvement. This is why local bookshops will never go away!

The selection here is large, and they have lots of events and signed books. I also have found that the staff here are both friendly and helpful. They have a loyalty program where you can get a $5 coupon after you spend $100.

Very nice neighborhood bookstore. The selection is fantastic and it is larger than it looks from the outside. I went there close to Christmas time for a couple of gifts and the place was packed, yet everyone was in good spirits and helpful.The service was great, I needed some assistance with finding things and everyone I talked to was helpful.

Big selection with personal feel. Like the book stores I remember as a kid, lots of books and crannies to sit and read a bit before purchase.Loads of activities spread through nearly Avery month - got to meet two of my favorite authors for book signings and Q&A events.Will be back often.

I found a new love! Its a beautiful and well stocked independent bookstore. Someone there puts a _lot_ of time, love and thought into their selection. Yes, its eclectic but its pretty deep as well as broad. I was particularly taken with their selection of SF (lot of mid list and British authors there), graphic novels (Usagi Yojimbo Saga, Paper Girls, lots of other stuff beyond super heroes, and plenty of those too). Plus, they have a sharp logo a man with a sword and a book.

Wouldnt change a thing. I go out of my way to buy here often. Browser friendly, they have a great selection, great deals, and I always go home with something I knew nothing about before going in. The staff is great. Whenever asked for suggestions, theyve pulled through in spades. Enjoyable atmosphere/location. Definitely check it out.

This bookstore is a GEM! Right inside the door youll find staff recommendations and book club choices. Everywhere you turn there is something interesting, unique and quirky. If you need a thoughtful gift or card, you will most likely find it here. There are sale books, all the latest releases, gorgeous cookbooks, a large well chosen childrens section and comfy couches. Right next door is a Starbucks if you need a caffeine fix in the middle of your book search. This place is the real thing. Indie bookstore done right.

Extremely good service. I put a book on order, and they called me when it came in, as well as made reminder calls. It is apparent that they truly care above their customers in the customer experience. Bookstore was very clean. I also had experience with Boswell book store for a work event and they came in for book signings as we had a national speaker at our event. The selection and staff really make Boswell world class. When I was living out of state I would call them and they would give me book recommendations. Their childrens book selection is excellent, a wonderful place to get a special gift. They have some really cool events and bring in writers from all over the world. Please patronize boswell as they improve our local community in a truly meaningful way.

Good selection and friendly staff, tons of reviews and recommendations from the staff are posted on little cards throughout the store, great way to get a recommendation on a new book.Also, keeping an eye on their events list every so often is a good idea, plenty of author signings and other cool stuff.

A real gem in Milwaukee. Just a great find for book lovers. Also the owners take real pride in the community and are involved as much as they can be. I especially enjoy seeing visiting authors who are often here on their book tours. Ive seen some big names here in an intimate setting.

While waiting for Cafe Hollander to serve lunch we killed time walking around and came across this wonderful bookstore. It wraps around the corner Starbucks with the entrance on Downer. There is an entrance inside connecting to Starbucks as well. You will find both new and used books here. My favorite feature are the little book reviews by staff you will find everywhere taped below books on the shelves. I live independent bookstores.

This is my favorite bookstore in Milwaukee! It’s surprisingly vast inside and full of books! All sorts of topics. If you’re can’t find something the staff are super friendly and willing to order something if they don’t have it. It’s such a calming and peaceful space to browse books.

When Im short on time, I just hand my phone (which stores my long, long, book list) to Sharon and she tracks down the books I want. And when Im done with my stack, I bring the used books back to Sharon and, voila, I earn a gift certificate! So much better than Amazon! And I probably attend at least two events a month at their store or at one of their remote locations. It makes me feel like I live in New York City with culture and learning around every corner.
