Worse than waffle house in a fantastic location, 5 times the cost. Should have left after the second attempt to upsell the same thing in the same sentence. While waiting for our food, there was a constant stream of vendors selling cigars, perfume, and trinkets. I had the breakfast special, my partner had the huevos rancheros with a side of bacon. Imagine that a high school student went to the grocery store, bought the food and put it in the microwave. The rancheros was literally eggs and cheese that had been microwaved to restaurant style chips; Reading the reviews it seemed to have been good and went down hill. The service wasnt good or bad, I just didnt want to get a refill of my coffee because I was worried it would be an extra $4.
Great outdoor seating for people watching. Great vibe. Was drawn in by happy hour 2 for 1 beers. Ordered 2 draft IPAs. Was flabbergasted when I got the bill for $24 for my buy-one-get-one beer. $16 for a pint, 20% added to it plus tax. Without the “deal” it would’ve been over $40 for 2 beers!!! The pizza was good, the fried cheese sticks fine. But I won’t be buying beer here again!
Good for vegetarians as well as everyone else. Light fare is great for a quick lunch or a curb side breakfast or dinner for people watching!
I miss this place.... I used to go here often to eat with my parents on the weekends while they crossed the street afterwards and ordered wet Willies. Id always get either their cheese ravioli or their ceviche. There ceviche was always spicy which I LOVED. I hope they open again. I wanted to take my husband and daughter here to eat but looks like I wont ever do that :(
You got to try this place. I ordered the breakfast special for 11.75 and OMG it was so much food; eggs, bacon, lots of fries, and bread. It comes with orange juice and unlimited coffee. So delicious, perfect to start your day in South Beach Miami. The service was amazing. If I could I would give it more stars.
Decent service, good location. We were a family of four with two small kids. The staff was very friendly. The burgers and pizza were fine - we should have been more precise regarding the water as we got very expensive Iceland Glacier Water. Besides this small bumb everything was fine - the staff was kind of strange but friendly as well. All in all good 4 out of 5.
My girlfriend and I ate food there d.15 of December. I got a burger with fries and a mango mojito. She got a Sprite and both our drinks tasted/smelled of chlor (I think its due to the ice cubes) She also got a Fried Sampler and did not get any onion rings. How that can cost 77$ I dont know, but thats not a place we will visit again.
Nice place with non stop kitchen. 24 hours open all year. Dont forget the benedict eggs with salmon!! My favorites!!! And the sweet fries too. The dessert are amazing too. The new york cheesecake itvs gourgeos. Lummus park and Ocean Drive view. Great terrace to see and be seen. You know what I mean.
First off I want to note that they include a 20% tip in the bill which they note on the menu. That said, this is a great restaurant for people watching. Located in the world famous area of South Beach on Ocean Drive, you get to see a colorful crowd walking right besides you dressed in anything and everything. We ordered the Middle Eastern combo platter for 2. It cost $22.75. Extra pita which we needed was an additional charge of $2.50. The total for this which included tax and the 20% gratuity mentioned came to just under $33. A little pricey but this is Ocean Drive in South Beach. It was good and healthy as well. The service however was slow. It took awhile for Alex our server to take our order. Once he got it, it was delivered timely. However, he could have been more attentive. When we asked for more pita bread, it did take a while till we got it. Also took a while after we asked for our check to receive it. Alex was friendly and colorful however. One side note here: During our meal a man walking on the street plopped himself at a next to us where 3 women were seated and started hitting on the teenaged girl sitting among the 3. Not News Cafes fault and they did a good job of getting rid of him without incident.
Just know that the average rating of 4.+ is BEFORE they changed owners! My husband, my son and his friend, and I went to News Cafe in South Beach over Super Bowl weekend. I used to go there all of the time and loved it! I found out that it has a new owner. I dont know why News allowed them to keep this name and run it into the ground! Service was horrible, even though I have been there before when it was super busy and this day was not as bad because of rain. We order two appetizers, coffee, and beers. It took forever! Coffee was cold and sent it back but never got a replacement. Pizza was burnt and came right out of a frozen pizza package. Platter was horrible! Two onion rings, two moz sticks, two shrimp, two of something else? It was thrown on a plate and it also came straight from freezer boxes because it tasted like freezer burn. We decided not to order main course because of the rude waiter and horrible appetizers. The bill came to almost $100! They include a tip for rude, horrible waiter of $15 for insulting us and insufficiently waiting tables. I talked to manager after asking another employee (bartender) if I could talk to manager and he was rude as well! Manager however was very nice, but she is a week new and really should have been out on the floor and hands on during this weekend and especially because she knew she needed to change things around there. Hopefully she will! Can she change it back to one of my favorite places? I doubt it! OH and $16 for a draft!
A must, very accomodating. The staff super friendly. They should give the cook a raise ordered the Grilled chicken with portabella mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes and mashed potatoes. The whole meal was bursting with flavors. Chicken Stir-fry I was able to taste each individual vegetable. Something that i have not experiance Up-North. The portions where big. Dont forget the Key-Lime pie. Its open 24hrs. The American coffee is strong. Went for breakfast the next day and it not disappoint. My go to spot from now on when im in South-Beach.
Really? A 45 minute wait for our food after we ordered. Other tables received their food before us despite coming after us. The salmon omelette was super salty. They didn’t have oatmeal and no grape jelly. They didn’t refill our drinks once. The place is not clean which I had plenty of time to notice considering our food took so long. Oh yeah, the prices are ridiculously high and the 20% service charge on the receipt is not the waiter’s tip. I’m done!
Have been coming to news for over a decade. It used to be the best breakfast, great food, good service. Over the years, the quality has plummeted. Just ate here and was so disappointed. Poor service, food took forever, arrived cold and had tiny portions. Prices are expensive and the only thing that’s nice about it these days is location. Recommend many other places for a good breakfast.
News Cafe is definitely a great place to watch the human zoo walking by that is Ocean Drive (casual, no hawkers trying to wave you in, and a few different levels from which to observe goings on) but what shocked me was the food. I had steak tacos. Not what I think of as diner food. And they were really, really good! And not overpriced at all, at $16. Now I know why this place is an institution of South Beach.
A great place to eat if youre trying to get the vibe of the sidewalk scene without blowing a lot of money on food. We dined outside late at night it was pretty windy on a Saturday evening but it was still pleasant. We split a bacon cheeseburger it was awesome so were the fried shrimp. Caesar salad side and the coleslaw were not really edible. The wait staff was very attentive.
Alright let me get started. First thing first, don’t eat here if you’re looking for quality quisine. As a French toast connoisseur I am woefully disappointed in how cheaply it was put together. I’ve been eating all over Miami and I’ve not had a combination so insipid, so poor, so lacking to basic tasting senses. Eat somewhere like Morgans.
Intentional or not, News Cafe fondly reminds us of the identically named restaurant in the heart of Rome: comfortable, calm(er), good food and service and a perfect location to relax and watch the world go by. When we visit South Beach, well stop in several times for the diverse menu--including breakfast served 24/7--reasonable (for SB) prices and delish beers on tap!
If you want to experience a horrible service this is definitely the place to go. Over 10 waiters ignoring us, having to re ask for the same thing over and over. The attitude towards the customer is completely unfriendly. I even saw an entire family leave because the waiter never came to them. The food was ok.Additionally, they left a table with the plates on for over 15 minutes and even birds started to eat the remaining bits and all the waiters were just laughing and none of them cared, as you can see in the picture.Worst part of all they make you pay tip since it’s already included in the bill and its 20%!That’s just ridiculous. In a nutshell, I’m never coming back there.
The salmon was delicious.Cappuccino was amazing. I love eating outdoor, the staff were friendly too
I liked this place In Miami. The menu is pretty diverse and yummy. The eggs Benedict were delicious!! I think their recipe is nice to try if you like eggs Beni. Instead of the hollandaise sauce it was cream cheese sauce. The service was kind of slow, but the waiter was ok. The view is nice, we stayed outside and you could see the palms and the street. They have umbrellas, so the sun is not burning your skin.
I came here for lunch with my family a long time ago. I think we were on our way to or from Key West. I got the BBQ pizza, which was amazing.i need to get back to the 305 and this great cafe!
Just so everyone knows, the pictures aren’t as it shows. It’s false advertising. We came for breakfast and we got the ham egg and cheese croissant and it came with 2 pieces of thinly sliced ham and one piece of cheese. She said they don’t even have eggs that are made that way. The parfait is good though.
I’ve lived in South Beach for 13 years now. This place used to be good. It’s the same trash as the rest of Ocean Drive restaurants.Tourists: do not eat on ocean drive- 99% of the places on this road are awful. Go anywhere else to eat.
American food... super good. Great location to chill, eat some good food. This place has an awesome atmosphere.
Location is great. However, unfortunately food, service, price are not.Long waits for menus, water, food, and waiter. Sandwich was dried (maybe stale) bread and basic for $16.50. Bill arrived and was $23.00.Plenty of better options on this same road.
Experience wasnt enjoyable. Our waitress obviously hated her job or us or herself. Although other staff seemed pretty friendly. As a vegan you would starve there. As a Raw vegan just forget it. What they call a tomato salad with onions and avocado is literally 3 slices of tomato, 3 thick slices of red onion and half avocado. Thats it.
Really bad place for the food, we had brunch there and the eggs benedict were hard, the huebos ranchers 2 eggs with tomato sauce....The prices were also insane, paying 33$ for an awful meal. Very touristic place you only pay for the location and nothing else. The waiter was nice and tried to make up for it offering us drinks.I strongly advise not to go there!!!
I agree with everyone who’s gone to the News Cafe in the past. It’s definitely changed over the years, the atmosphere, portion and quality of the food has declined. The only thing that remained the same is the name and location. An unfortunate disappointment during our recent visit.
Just arrived from NYC, needed to get food in my husbands stomach belly before he lost his mind, and found this cute place off the street. Claudia immediately greeted us and I felt right at home. She was attentive, quick, and even offered suggestions for us for places to visit. Can’t wait to come back and visit Claudia, your new out of state regular
Good food and great service. Outside seating was perfect for breakfast. The cocktail prices are crazy but, I get it. Its Miami.
Nice menu and good prices. Its a good outdoor cafe type restaurant. Great to spend an hour and have a drink.
Very good food. Charrasco and mahi mahi were delicious. But the price is what kills the meal.
I was recently in Miami with a group of 18 people, it was my mates stag. We went to this place one morning thinking it will be nice to have breakfast on the iconic Ocean Drive. We were left hugely disappointed. We were assigned 4 different waiters, each of which came and served as they pleased. Two of the tables were served fairly quickly and received their food, whilst mine and another table of ours weren’t attended to until we finally decided to ask. Our drinks came after the others had received their food. The food quality was not great and the coffee was extremely poor. We all ordered different items/options from the menu, so we ended up pretty much trying the whole menu collectivity as there were so many of us. We didn’t like the food at all. On top of that it was a complete rip off. This restaurant has no right charging the kind of prices they have on their menu. You’re just paying for location. That’s it. I would not go back there.
Our server, Mario, was awesome and entertaining! The good is expensive but thats too be expected. The burger was really good.
My family & I went here for lunch and they told us it would be a 45 minute wait to get our food. We ended up waiting 3 hours and didn’t receive half of the food we ordered before we decided to just pay for our drinks and leave. This place is expensive for the low quality food they serve
Low quality and overpriced. We had breakfast here today. The cafe con leche was good but aside from that it seems that as Ocean Drive spirals into disaster its taking an institution with it. McDonalds would have been better than our experience today. Ive been living on the beach for ten years and occasionally visit news cafe for breakfast. Im not sure if there is new management or what the issue is but lets go through the entire ordeal:1.) Orange juice is not fresh and tastes like sunny delight.2.) 30 minute wait for two eggs3.) Paper thin bacon4.) Cheese barely melted on my egg sandwich and looks like a kraft singles5.) Food Luke warm.6.) $50 for low quality meal (I dont mind paying when the price meets the quality). If you read my other reviews you will notice they are mostly positive. I rarely wrote negative reviews the experience has to be exceptionally disturbing. I sincerely hope the management makes some serious changes.
A South Beach institution. No visit is complete without dining here. Breakfast is my favorite meal.
Eggs Benedict was dry eggs over cooked, sauce was dry. Sausages undercooked. Cappuccino bitter and sour.
Good value on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. We could get eggs anything past 3pm and that is a plus. Our waitress was kind and accomodating. I ordered the eggs Bénédicte with smoked salmon and it was really good, exactly how I like them, not smothered with hollandaise sauce.I have been going for years to News Cafe and will keep on going as long as they keep up the good job ☺️
Barbara was an amazing server! Always checked up on us, asked if we needed anything, provided details on questions we asked. Didn’t have to ask for refills. She’s a great conversationalist and the food was fantastic; fresh and she accommodated us beyond satisfaction.Definitely would recommend!!! 👍🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Terrible terrible terrible.I usually do not post reviews but this place had 4 stars and had a good number of reviews which was why we went there but it turns out most positive reviews are dated and there has been a change of ownership and the quality of the place seems to have gone downhill since then. The coffee is bad. Imagine the coffee you get in the room at a motel. The food is bad, cold, extra oily. And for some reason, it was also served cold.I never waste food but what was served was inedible. The best thing I had there was butter and toast. Also, overpriced for what is on offer. Highly not recommended.
My experience at News Cafe was the best ever, Thanks to Claudia. She was the most welcoming waitress I’ve ever encountered full of energy and great spirit. Any time I visit Miami I’ll be looking forward to eating at News Cafe thanks to her!
Simply the worst service Ive experienced. Coming from the service industry background, I was completely shocked by the waiting staff behavior and attitude. At the time I attended the restaurant it was not busy at all, I had to stand up several times to get brown sugar as my latte was getting cold, napkins, etc. as the waitress was too busy talking to staff and didnt even bother to ask if we needed anything. The times I asked for the sugar and napkins, she replied with a rude demeanor. As it turns out the restaurant automatically adds 20% service charge to the bill and the staff simply does not care. What a shame such of Iconic location is being run as it is today. Last time I visited, it was probably 5 years ago and the wonderful place which once existed, it is no more.... I brought a friend from Europe to the location for the first time and it was completely embarrassing.Todays News cafe should change its name to Dicks Last Resort..Terrible experience!
Katherine was such a sweet and accommodating waitress!! It is a great location on the strip to sit at a table, enjoy some drinks and people watch. The bathrooms were so clean and I did notice they even had a special entrance for wheelchairs!
