Had a engine light come on .Took it in on a Tuesday morning. Was called a hour later with the quote. Told me parts are about two weeks out and they would call me when they fixed it. 2 days later Chris called and said it was fixed and ready to go. They have followed up with me twice now to make sure everything is perfect. Outstanding job on my truck and the follow up was impressive. This is my new shop to go to from now on. They are upfront and honest . Price came in under not over what they quoted me. Highly recommend!

Our family was moving from oregon on our way to the south. Truck broke down in Idaho. Was very happy that the shop was able to get the truck in as fast as they did being over fathers day weekend. These guys saved our vacation.We were hauling our trailer from WA, and ran into engine trouble about an hour outside of Boise.We were passing through towards Colorado, and really needed to get back onto the road.I called around and people were booked up through the next week. We didnt want to be stuck that long.Gem State really came through for us. They squeezed us in and stayed after hours to diagnose the problem. They called everywhere to find them parts we needed to get them overnighted in.They got us up and running the next day.Since then, weve hauled our trailer through the mountains of Utah and have had zero problems. They definitely nailed it.I cant recommend these guys enough.

First of all, these guys know their stuff when it comes to Diesel trucks!!I called with a weird engine sound and Mike was, while being very personable and friendly, able to diagnose immediately over the phone. The mechanic Bryce thoroughly went through the truck and fixed everything including small odds and ends that I didnt know where a problem (cross threaded bolts, leaks, etc) and were very reasonable on the over all price. No over charging and great meticulous work. Bryce even stayed late the last night to get my truck buttoned up so I could use it for camping that weekend!!! I will be returning to Gem State Diesel for ALL future diesel needs and would definitely recommend Gem State Diesel as the place for a Pre Sale inspection, if your looking into purchasing a used diesel THIS IS A MUST. My truck is a power house now thanks to Gem State diesel. A reliable mechanic you can trust!

Gem State Diesel was VERY accommodating in our situation. Had mechanical issues on way to new job location in Lovelock, NV. Even though they were booked out 2 weeks, they got us in, diagnosed issues, ordered parts, worked us in and had several major issues taken care of in the 2 weeks we were in Lovelock for small job. We fortunately had friends in area that loaned us their truck to pull RV to job site while truck was in shop. Gem State did a very professional job and truck runs as good as ever. They also pointed out things to keep an eye on, that might need attention soon, but we had them pass on, due to our schedule. We highly recommend Gem State Diesel!!! 👍🏼

I have been to most every diesel repair shop in town and have recently settled in to Gem State Diesel. I found Dave to be very knowledgeable, having done a great deal of research myself before bringing my vehicle in I found the recommendations for repairs to be in line with all of the expert reports I had read. I likely could have saved a great deal of money over the years having dealt with dishonest mechanics or misdiagnosed inspection and repair by finding this shop sooner. Hard to find a good Ford Diesel mechanic. As I live and work in Meridian the location is also convenient.

Over the past years I have my diesel truck servicing and repair work completed by Gem State Diesel. They have been most helpful in providing heads up information about what to expect with an older truck. Service repairs have been on time and reasonable price. In the past few weeks Dave has provided good advice purchasing a newer replacement truck. Keep up the good work.

While the answer you get is not always the answer you want to hear you have to appreciate the honesty and expertise of Gem State. They told me what was wrong with my truck and never tried to oversell me. They actually recommended me to not have the work done since the truck was not worth it. They found the problem and FIXED it! I brought in an old ranch truck with a starting problem. I have looked at endless YouTube videos covering the problem and had the truck in another garage. The problem was never fixed so I took it to Gem State since they took care of me on newer trucks. I had a feeling the problem was fuel related but they took the diagnosis deeper and found the cause, I never would have found it. The repair was done quickly and at a very fair price,

The shop and service was great. Gem State Diesel has been working with me for 4 years fixing up my truck that previous owners have just let things go. this last week they rebuilt my A/C and everything is working great for my trip to SLC a few days later.

Excellent work, they didnt do any work that didnt need to be done. Also, they called to see what I wanted to do when they found problems rather than just fixing it. The price was extremely reasonable and the customer service was amazing. They definetly make you feel like a life long customer regardless of who you are.

2005 6.0 powerstroke. 250k miles. Dave and his team took terrific care of me. They were able to troubleshoot a surging at idle problem. Replaced the faulty part an even rewired pigtails. 2 days and done. I would have waited a week or more for an appointment anywhere else and would have cost 30 to 50 percent more. Thanks guys.

Had turbo replaced 6 months ago and was asked that I bring it back for oil change so they could inspect everything. Gem State has been wonderful to work with and will always be my diesel shop.

I contacted Gem State Diesel after my 1996 F350 7.3 was hard to start. Dave got me in quickly and Steve (Master Ford Tech) diagnosed the problem. Faulty transmission range sensor. Steve took time out of his day to talk about the issue and other things I could do to keep the truck in great shape, nice guy. Very please with the work and staff and the pricing is fair. Would recommend this shop to others.

This is the second time I have had my F250 7.3 diesel worked on by Gem State. They did a good job of diagnosing all the issues with the steering problems. The results are great, and the truck tracks much better now. I am very appreciative of the shop manager Bryan calling during the process with updates and explaining the issues and the necessary work to correct the problems. Had a great experience with this company. First time here and was treated as a long time customer. Great work with a quick turn around. Almost a 5 star. It has “ok” pricing. Hourly is fair for the area but parts marked up 100% from what you spend online is a little ridiculous.

They did a great job and did what I asked for and then some. I have taken my sons 1996 F250 Power Stroke to another diesel shop in town 3 times to have the same issue fixed. Each time I also asked for a bumper to bumper evaluation. All three times we took it, it came back with all good, but leaks and other issues kept coming back. I finally had it and took it to Gem State Diesel. They not only diagnosed the issues I was aware of, but did a full bumper to bumper and found other issues.......they even made sense. They fixed everything in a timely manner and kept me informed of the progress. They even fixed a few things that I was not aware of until I picked it up, but did not charge me.I would highly recommend taking your diesel to these guys. Great customer service and honest. Gets the work done correctly.

Bryan was very helpful. We drove by - told him of the check engine light on our beloved Big Read F350 dually that just came on from our trip to California for Thanksgiving. He got us in for an appointment the very next day. They were on time. They even helped drive me home and pick me up for the appointment. As an amputee I couldnt go out and rent just any car for the day. They did great work timely and within budget. We made arrangements for some additional work I will be needing and scheduled it for December. If I was not impressed I would not be planning to go back. Very impressed - keep up the good work!

I have a 2007 6.6 chevy duramax .I broke down. Called up Dave and his crew explained my situation. They sent a tow truck over for a fair price . And had my truck fired up in less then 2 hours . You might be a fool if you aren’t letting Gem State Diesel service your vehicle. We’ve been bringing our truck to these guys since we 2015 and have been continually impressed with the impeccable customer service and level of commitment here. These guys get to the bottom of anything and with honesty, communication and transparency. We have recently moved and yet I still go out of my way to bring our truck here because there is no one else I would trust. Each and every employee here is approachable, knowledgeable and friendly and Bryan up front, the face of the shop, is the icing on the cake. They do a ‘thourough’ inspection, don’t oversell and always stand by their work. I wouldn’t know where to start here. I cannot say enough good things about Gem State Diesel. Update 8/2021 - Recently bought a 7.3L Excursion and brought it in to install an EGT probe and track down an oil leak. Well, it had a few oil leaks and some other items that needed fixing. They werent kidding when they said diesels were expensive to repair. Despite a hefty repair bill they actually finished it early and for a lot less than quoted.These guys are awesome. I brought in a 7.3 excursion for pre-sales inspection that was rusted out. They gave me great advice on diesels in general and recommended gas to save money on maintenance based on my use. Makes me want to buy a diesel just to bring it there. Cannot recommend these guys enough. Very down to earth, dont talk down, thorough explanations. Bring your diesels here.

I was looking for a clean, knowledgeable, diesel mechanic and have been very pleased with the service offered by Gem State Diesel. Bryan took the time to listen to the issues my truck was having, offered solid advice, and even followed up to check up on the repairs that were made to my truck. I was impressed on how clean their shop is and am happy to have found them.

Great Service, no hard upsell! I usually do all the maintenance on my vehicles, but could not this time, so I took it into Gem State Diesel. In addition to doing what was asked, they did a complete inspection, and let me know their findings. There were only a couple of recommendations, but nothing serious, and no hard upsell to get them done right away. I have had other places make it sound as if the truck would not make it out of the driveway if I didnt get the work done. Dave took the time to explain what was needed, how they come to the decision, then explained on a 1 - 10 scale where I was at. Nothing serious, but things to keep an eye on. Thanks for taking care of me. I will be back when I need further service, and would recommend you to friends who ask.

These guys are great! I have an older diesel van and have taken it to various places around town to have things done to it (batteries, electrical issues, and glow plug issues). I wish I would have come here first. A friend recommended them and I am glad I took his advice. The work they performed has worked great on my old van, and they took the time to check into a few other things while they had it in their shop. Fair pricing, and great service. I finally feel like I found a go to shop in the area for diesel issues.

Took my ‘17 diesel to Gem State for a brake issue. They were honest and great to work with and priced right. I will definitely take my truck back to them.

I contacted your establishment to replace a starter you replaced just over 2 years ago. I had my truck towed to your location and was informed, less than an hour after the truck was picked up that the starter was ordered. Less than an hour later I was informed that it was finished. The cost was over $200.00. I picked it up and was informer that the battery cables needed replacing. Less than a week before I had replaced both batteries and all the battery connectors with heavier duty cables and connectors. ALL the connections were VERY tight, verified by no less than three people. Your diagnostics were faulty and not necessary. I felt that screwing the customer and getting more money to cover your overhead that day was more necessary than honesty. While your agent did finally adjust the bill, honorable representation would have been better for all concerned. Also, refusing to tell a customer where a part was supplied from does not bolster confidence in your organization.

Best decision I made was to use these guys. I wanted a second opinion after Ford dealer quote. They saved me a lot of money and the repair was quick and reasonable. Ditch the dealers!

Bryan, and the guys over at Gem State Diesel are great to work with. Very reliable and fast turn around on repairs. I had a starter they placed go bad and it was under warranty, No questions asked, just replaced it and my truck is running great again. I would highly recommend.

Engine light on my Chevy Duramax came on on Thursday. I called the dealership and they never bothered to call me back. So I called Bryan at Gem State, and he got me in on Friday diagnosed the problem, and had me fixed by noon. I took my 2004 silverado duramax in that was losing power and blowing black smoke. People, including a diesel mechanic my brother knows were telling me bad injectors. The first thing Dave at GSD did was check updates for my truck. They replaced a wiring harness and found a part missing on the air filter housing that was letting dirt into the turbo. They saved me four thousand dollars. Called me every step of the way,and even had me stop by the shop to show me what they found. My truck wont go anywhere else. Thank you Gem State Diesel.

Visiting Boise for the weekend. Midafternoon on a Friday. Needed alternator replaced on F250 7.3 diesel pickup. Ford dealer in Meridian more interested in company policy than helping a customer.Called Gem State Diesel. Bryan: I can get the part and replace it today if you get here in the next 15 minutes.I got it there. Bryan ordered the part from Boise (Friday afternoon rush hour traffic slowed delivery till about 4 pm). Steven replaces it; checks voltages; defective alternator. Bryan ordered a second one; worse traffic. Arrived about 4:45 pm. Steven replaced it again; checked voltages and got me out the door at closing time (5 pm).Bryan and Steven, a hearty thank you. You understand what customer service means and you delivered!!

These guys have even helped me trouble shoot problems I was having over the phone for quick n’ easy home fixes which has helped me in saving money while rebuilding this truck slowly. Bryan and crew at Gem State Diesel have been great to work with since I moved to Boise. When my 04 F250 broke down with a failed FICM they had replaced almost a year ago, they towed the truck, and immediately fixed the issue with a new FICM under their warranty and got me back on the road. Great service, know what they are doing and just as importantly, they back their work to make things right.

After taking my Ford f350 6.0 to another shop and being told they couldnt figure it out I was referred to Gem State Disel. From the first call to make an appointment I could tell they knew diesel trucks. They diagnosed the problem emailed me a quote and had it fixed in time to make my weekend camping trip!!!

I took my truck in to get the radiator leak fixed. He told me that I had two blown head gaskets, metal in the fuel filter and I need to get rid of the truck or replace the engine. Less than two weeks earlier I took it to a reputable diesel mechanic to check it out before purchasing the truck and the head gaskets were good. After gem state told me it had bad head gaskets I took it to another diesel mechanic and the head gaskets were good and no metal on the fuel filter. Gem state charged me to tell me that I had bad head gaskets and I dont. They need a new mechanic also the secratary Bryan is the most negative person I have ever talked to. Please go somewhere else!

Great shop Thanks so much to the Techs at Gem State Diesel. Was in town visiting family before new years and a fluid leak developed. Was concerned about driving back home 600 miles, called them late thurs afternoon, they had me bring it in fri at 8am. They diagnosed it right away, found a cold water leak and would be good to go keeping a eye on the coolant. Made it home no issues. They had great reviews thats why I called them. Definitely would call them 1st if needed thanks again so much

I cant say enough good things about Gem State! I had a 6.0L Powerstroke that was a royal P.O.S. As I was trying to polish that turd, Gem State did what they could to help. On one of the repairs we all thought it was the alternator based on the symptoms, but after they ran the diagnostics, they determined it was the batteries. They could have easily pulled the wool over my eyes and said it was the alternator (which I would have believed), but they were honest and because of that, they have forever gained my trust. After I gave up on the 6.0, they helped me find my 5.9L Cummins that I am OBSESSED with.Being a 20-something female I get concerned about men seeing me as an easy target, especially in the realm of vehicle repairs, but that is not the case with Gem State. I have sent several friends to them... I love Gem State!

Horrible business. 3 separate times they tried to sell me repairs that were not needed. The last time they told me that I had blown head gaskets on my 2005 f350 6.0. They swore up and down that the gaskets were bad. The local ford dealership determined that the actual problem was just a stuck thermostat. They absolutely lied to me, repeatedly. They then charged me for the diagnostic fee. So I had to pay them to lie to me.
