This was my ultimate store when I was a child. Reason being my father being a mechanic, workers here will always knew who we were. Loved the atmosphere, they made you feel like family! But the sad part is that Pep Boys doesnt sell parts anymore, just tires. I remember going through every aisle and being amazed by all the things it had, I also loved the dolls they had there. Which were the three main Pep Boys guys. I will always cherish the memories and times I had here!

Paid for tire balance, rotation, and alignment. They balanced the tires, but did not provide me with a before/after alignment spec sheet due to printer not working for some time now. I figured a shop as big as Pep Boys wouldnt be in the scamming business, but after taking it to a different shop I could see that the alignment values were all over the place which indicates that these guys did not do their job which they were paid for.Id ask for a spec sheet, if not refuse to pay for alignment. Would not recommend this PepBoys in particular, drive the extra mile elsewhere.

Simply put, this is one of the worst places Ive ever done business with. I read some of the horror story reviews prior to taking my car there and, unfortunately, I didnt listen. Lesson learned.I took my car in for new tires. Everything was going fine until it was time to pay and pick up my vehicle. I explained to the cashier that Id be splitting the payment on two cards ($200 and $350) because, quite frankly, it was an unexpected expense and couldnt afford to put it all on one card. A simple transaction method that 99.9% of businesses do. I swipe my first card and nothing. The computer freezes. After waiting about 5 minutes he tells me to swipe again. Nothing. So we wait, again. Finally he decides to restart the computer. After waiting another 10 minutes for this process to complete it finally reboots (mind you, there are 2 other unused registers behind the counter he could have used). So I swipe again and it goes through. I sign and touch agree. Then the computer freezes. Again. I INSTANTLY knew this was bad news because my receipt never printed. I immediately log onto my banks app while he was busy pulling it up on a different register (finally) and there it was: a $200 charge from Pep Boys. At this point about 30 minutes have elapsed and now Im cutting it close to making it to work on time.The 2nd register finally pulls up my work order and the guy tells me to try again. I asked him why the remaining balance did not reflect the $200 I just paid. He said it never went through. I was FUMING on the inside. I showed him and the manager that I have a $200 charge from Pep Boys that went through. They insisted it was a failed payment. So now Im forced to use a THIRD credit card to pay them an extra $200. After ONE FULL HOUR of dealing with their nonsense, and making me late to work in the process, the transaction was complete and the damage was done: a $200 charge that failed, a $200 charge on a 2nd card, and a $350 charge on my debit card. The manager, Juan, tells me to come back if the payment posts and to provide proof.Monday morning rolls around and there it is: a posted transaction for $200. I print out all the documentation and head over to the store to get my money back. I asked to see the manager, Juan, and he seems annoyed at the whole situation. Him? Annoyed?! IM the one wasting time on my off day trying to get back $200 that YOU GUYS overcharged me for. Of course, he was no help. Instead of just taking my credit card and refunding my $200 he sends an email to someone. Now I have to sit around and wait for this person to reach out to me. On top of that NOT ONCE did he apologize to me. Thats great management right there.Pep Boys, save your generic cut and paste apology I see you give everyone else that rightfully gives you a terrible review. No, I will not be reaching out to you to explain the situation. No, I dont want to hear from any of you either. Just give me back the $200 you stole from me. First and final time doing business with Pep Boys.

Dont bring ur car here if your having problems with ur car at high speeds like shaking or alignment problems, missed out on a warranty because they missed it the first time( very inconvenient) they told me they dont take cars on test drives only in there parking lot! So they missed the problem and now i have to come out of pocket 450 on a newly purchased car! Im pist

So pep boys change from auto parts and service to just service and basically all their Auto parts customers warranties are being completely mismanaged. Instead of them being able to access their own information to find out what customers bought what seeing how we dont all keep receipts for as many as five years nor does the ink on those receipts last much more than 6 months, they delicate the responsibility to the customer to call corporate and get the receipt number for the part that theyre trying to warranty and then give that to the store in order to have the product verified that it was actually purchased through them. Why wouldnt you just keep that same system up and allow access to the store?! Why would we have to go through all this extra trouble to verify we from pep boys corporate that we purchased a product from pep boys, especially when that purchase was made at that store? To make it worse, Ive called four times and been transferred around different places spending as much as an hour and 28 minutes on one call and probably a total of four hours combined trying to find the stupid receipt number that they need because they dont know how to keep records or at least give their service locations access to the same records that corporate has? Waste of time and it proves that pep boys 1,000% does not stand behind their products because if they did, they would not create this long drawn out process to try and enforce customers to just give up and purchase a new part instead of holding pep boys to their promise to us the customer that they are selling us a quality part and that they are a business worth doing business with and stand both with their customers and behind their products. Such a shame because Ive done so much business with them, now a mistake I will never make again as I was about to buy 2 sets of Michelin premier tires and getting an alignment on both vehicles but these tires carry 60,000 mi warranties and I know pep boys wont be there should I need to hold them to that warranty nor will they be there for you because they only care about getting the money out of your pocket right now and you can figure out the rest later regardless of the promises that they made to you

I had my breaks done. It was done in a timely manner. Ive had another car I used to drive serviced here. Ive been bringing all of my cars here to get serviced. The guys are professional and nice. No tricks by the service staff to get you to get something you dont need.

I made a 4pm appointment for a wheel alignment ONLY and was told they would call when my car was finished. I called at 6:40pm to see when my car would be ready and no one ever answered the phone. Drove there to find the shop closed and my car sitting in the lot probably untouched. They NEVER called or told me they would need to keep my car overnight. I picked my vehicle up with my spare key because I CAN’T leave it overnight. Absolutely ridiculous that no one would bother to call me or let me know ahead of time that it would not be ready on the same day. I doubt they even touched my car and there is no one to speak to today even though I called them before closing. Why they would need to keep a car OVERNIGHT for a WHEEL ALIGNMENT with an appointment scheduled 3 hours before closing and never bother to ASK ME if that’s okay is beyond me!

Horrible place to get an oil change. Made an appointment at 3pm. Literally left at 430. For an oil change! AND THEN not only did they not close the hood of my car after the finished, they left oil stains with there dirty hands on my car. Smh. Horrible

Went yesterday for an oil change. First time getting service. Made an appointment online. Was easy! Arrived early. Took my car right away. - Mike at the desk was so nice!! Please give a shout out to him! - In and out fast!! Best place!!! Will definitely be going back. - Only constructive criticism is needs a few more chairs for waiting. I know space is limited but would be great to add some chairs as I saw a lot of people standing and floating around the store.

Please save your time and money and stay away from Melrose Park pep boys. Saw some good deals online so thought I’d go in and get more information. At the check out desk two employees were chatting while finishing up with a customer, one goes to the back and the other goes with the customer. No one said I’ll be right with you, out from the office comes another employee and clearly sees me waiting doesn’t even ask if I’ve been helped yet. Decided to give them another chance but left when I didn’t see another employee for a full 20 minutes

This pep boys is worth visiting. Customer service is amazing. The mechanics know what they are talking about and try to explain to you whats going on. I work for lyft, i take my car for the oil also inspection and the mechanics are always on point. Super fast service. Other ones not so much. (Ie Lombard location. So mad with them.)

If you value customer service and your car, don’t bring your vehicle here for service. I scheduled an appointment for new tires and 3 days later I had to come back. I realized that they hadn’t put back 2 of my lug nuts; instead they left one empty and placed an old rusted one on the other. I called to see what had happened and they told me they had stripped two, but must’ve forgot to mention it to me during pickup. I asked them for a solution to the problem and they kept giving me the run around and told me they would call back. No surprise, they never called back. I honestly wouldn’t have minded the whole thing if they were honest from the beginning. Accidents happen; there wasn’t a problem until they created one. They were so quick to give me a $600 estimate for another “problem”, but didn’t have the decency to tell me about the lug nuts. I ended up having to go in person to speak about a solution, and though in the end they fixed it (ordered new ones and replaced them) they’re not a trustworthy facility. To the Pep Boys Melrose Park team, learn how to be honest with your customers and treat them with decent respect.

I went in there just to have my front right headlight bulbs replaced.These gentleman were not bothered by this small task at all! Even though it was a pain in the butt to even get to the headlights to take out the old bulbs.There was that black covering.over the radiator that was screwed into the car,also in the way of getting to the headlights.My car is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE,with only 53 thousand plus miles on it! So I guess back then,there was no easy access to the headlights.When the man came in,I apologized to HIM,for having to go through all that,just to replace bulbs! And when he got done,I had 40.00 dollars in my hand.Then he says That will be $14.35.Huh? And on top of all this great news,he says my car was done!! I was in and out of there at the latest,20 minutes! Had no appointment set up either.Just drove in and asked if someone can do this for me.NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!!! THANK YOU,PEP BOYS MANAGERS AND STAFF! THIS ONE IS IN MELROSE PARK ON NORTH AVE,PEOPLE!! Check it out! You wont be disappointed! And my being a woman,they did not take that as I was stupid about cars!!! Took it in for check engine light. They said they fixed it and charged me $135 for a sensor and $100s more for the labor. Didnt turn off the check engine light. Took it back and they tried charging $780 for another sensor supposedly. They even agreed it wasnt worth it. Would of had a better experience taking it to a community college. Would of fixed it the first time at least.

Went in for an Oil Change.They advertised free Tire Rotation, which they did not do! Lied initially but then they said they did not do it (I used a Sharpie and numbered my rims).Also made general comments of the tire being unevenly worn out were as just below you can see the Technician comments (All of the tire tread depth is 7/32)Bunch of liars !!

Needed an oil change and was told service hours begin at 8 am so I made an appointment for 8 am. Got there at 7:55 and it still took 1 hour for an oil change. They also advertise included tire rotation with this service, which they did not do. Did not even add air in the tires. They did take the time to find things wrong with the car they would happily fix and quoted a price. Really? You cant do an oil change as advertised but I should let you do more complicated work? There are many places to go for an oil change, next time Ill try one of them.

Bought tires from them, constantly low of air pressure. No one mentioned defect in tire until long after warranty was up. They would kindly air my tires for free. 😮 Also bought top of line battery, dead first winter. Replaced with lesser battery due to not having same one in stock. Would have to wait day or two for same replacement. Freezing temps and need of car.

I purchased 2 tires here for my work vehicle (ford e350 van) while I was in Chicago on business over 500 miles from home.They refused to install the new tires on the front saying there was a law against it. I got 100 miles down the road and noticed the vehicle handling badly. Check pressure and noticed the front was over inflated by 25lbs of pressure!!!! This is a heavy duty van loaded with equipment mind you and 4 passengers.Turns out they installed the new tires in the rear, against my request siting a law, and only inflated them to the pressure that is required by the front. Then they moved the rear tires to the front and obviously never checked the pressure as they were inflated for the rear pressure of 75lbs.At this point I tried to fill the rear tires and noticed the valve stem that they installed was leaking. When I asked the service tech who fixed this problem at a truck stop they said that pep boys did not even need to do this procedure and just did it to charge me more.Basically this place installed my new tires in a way that would ruin my older ones and also endanger the passengers of the vehicle.I cant describe how upset I am for being both overcharges for unnecessary services as well as the mechanics endangering my business and the lives of my coworkersDo not go here.

Terrible experience multiple times. Recently took my car for an oil change and couple tires. Oil was spilled around cover and they didnt bother even cleaning it up. Tires were WAY overinflated! 60psi on a mid size sedan (its not even safe to inflate tires over 40psi, so they either did it on purpose or their techs have no clue on what they do). For the price I recomend any other shop near by. They even lost my little tire air valve caps (yeah, just some plastic caps but my car was relatively new amd no one has ever worked on them).Some relatives had same problems like the over pressurized tires, and my sister in law is taking her car for alignment for the 3rd time because they still wont get it right.

This place is horrible. I was being helped by one of the workers and Vincente just pulls out his phone and starts talking on it while helping customers. On top of all that he wants to get an attitude with me while I’m on the phone trying to figure out the situation with my car’s tires and is trying to over talk me on the phone. Joe was actually helpful with figuring out of the problem but I won’t be back again.

Terrible service! Worker gave me the wrong part then insisted that I had told her the wrong car. Then it took her 20 minutes to try and do my return. When she called the manager over he decided to make it a learning experience for her and spent the next 10 minutes walking her through the return. Definitely going to advanced auto parts across the street next time!!

While traveling 8 hours from home I had some minor brake issues and brought my car into this location.I spoke with Lee who has more patience than anyone I know...Although he is a manipulator. With time and money. Everything is a major issue and will tell you what ever you need to hear to get you there.When I first talked to him he said it would be a while and I said thanks I will go another place because I knew I was short on time and then he put me on hold and told me that he could get me in right away... that turned into about a 4 hour wait and also forced me to have to stay another night in the city to have another auto repair shop look at my car and fix the things they had done.They brought the car to me as if it was finished and fixed. I drove it to the next light from there parking lot and had to stop because when compressing the brake pedal it made an air sound and then went straight to the floor. Like there was air in the lines. Needless to say I turned right around and brought the car back to them.They attempted to bleed the lines again and came to me and said that my master cylinder was going out. They told me that It was unsafe to drive and that I needed to keep the car with them. I was terrified because they let me leave with the car in the first place. They were also quoting me 500 to get it fixed and the soonest they could do it was Monday and this was Saturday.I had no choice but to leave and hope I would make it to the next place safe. I then found a fantastic place called Tuffys and would recommend them to anyone. Very honest people. They had me in and out in about 1.5 hr and ended up flushing the brake fluid and bleeding the lines for half the price and the pedal was back to normal. The master cylinder had no issues.I 100% would not recommend this place. Pick any where other than this place or you will regret it.I also found out today that due to rotating the tires improperly I will need an alignment also. This was supposed to be a courtesy to me from Pep Boys. I am just so glad I am no longer trapped with these people and that they are no longer taking advantage of my car. End. Do not go here.

This location gave me the runaround for 3 days on a part I ordered on a Thursday for overnight delivery Friday. They were also supposed to deliver the part to the Oak Park location and never did. I called Friday all day and finally Sal tells me at almost 5pm the part didnt come and to call back on Monday morning and he would personally deliver it to the Oak Park location. Monday afternoon I call and was told Sal would be in a meeting until 3pm. They also said the part would not be there until after 1. I call back at 1:45 and I am put on hold for over 15 minutes. I use another phone and call the store while still on hold on the other phone and John says Sal isnt going to be available until now 5pm. I ask about the part and was put on hold again for about 10 mins until I decided to hang up and personally go to the store myself. Amazingly they found the part no one could find all day and the shipping sticker says Priority Saturday by noon! Amazing and terrible customer service! I added the photo of the shipping sticker to this review because I really dont want the robotic response they seem to give everyone were sorry and can we have your info so that our team can reach out and investigate? Just check the pic and that should help the investigation

They carelessly put my break caliber back together and it came unloose as I was driving. It could have potentially totaled my vehicle or even worse. You only get one chance to make a mistake like that, they will no longer receive my business. I encourage others to think twice before going here for any serious vehicle services.

You do NOT want to go here! They will overcharge you and take advantage of you. Car needed brake work and they quoted me an ABSURD amount. Take a look at the attached picture just to see how ridiculous they are.- Complimentary vehicle inspection, but charging for brake system inspection? That does not even make sense.- Brake hose is $12, they are charging $56/eaWhat is worse is that this was done by the service manager Jose. Very disappointing.Look elsewhere, just trying to save someone from being screwed over.

Terrible service. Placed an online order, received an email that it was ready. Went there and it was not ready, nor could they even find the items. Plus it took 15 minutes for them to tell me. Never going back.
