This place has been around since the 1920s, They know what they are doing. The business is still family owned. What more could you ask for good food? Well look no further. This place has the best Maid-Rites around and the best malts and shakes. Oh and dont forget the pie. Awesome staff!
Service was friendly and fast. And this is one of the last original maid rites in Iowa.
This is a diner classic, one of the original Maid-rites (third, dating back to 1928). It’s good food for a good price, and the service is on par with that as well. Absolutely worth the stop if for nothing more than the small town diner feel and a REAL milkshake!
This place never disappoints. Food is always good at a fair price. Nice place to sit and eat, or take it with you. Staff is always friendly and pleasant. Without a doubt will return many times more. Thank you!
Taylors maid-rite is amazing! Friendly staff, amazing and fresh food, and so cozy inside! The U shaped eat-in counter is the classic maid-rite experience that you cant miss!
The original maid rite, still has the same service and the sandwich is as always very good. Great family stop. Was mentioned in Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives. The diner fed all first responders when a tornado blew thru the town a few years back.
First time experience the midwives were delicious. I would go back. The staff are polite easy to visit with. Just a very friendly atmosphere.
Still the same fresh good hamburgers over 20 years was the last time I was there very clean and very good excellent shakes they will send you food anywhere
Sooooo good... Im from California and when we visit my wifes family in Iowa I have to get a couple of these things... they are so dam good and fairly inexpensive
OMG...I know a used up acronym, but it really applies here. This is the grand daddy of all Maid Rites and an Iowa institution. Outstanding loose meat sandwich (get a spoon - youll figure out why)with the works and a strawberry shake. Is this heaven - well it tastes like it.
Cant beat a REAL maid-rite. 5 stars for that. Malts could be tastier though.
My visit was purely for nostalgia . My mother in law grew up going to Taylors . Thus we returned for a visit. I had never experienced a regular loose meat sandwich before. It was interestingly so so. Not fatty though thus a plus. The chili was darn perfect on the spicy and flavor scale. The pie looked good.
Their Maid-Rites are SO good. Well worth your stop !
Flavorful sandwiches Friendly help Lots of local customers Will definitely return
Food is great!! Service is outstanding!! Highly recommend making it a necessary stop.
Great sandwiches and malts!! Great service!
Great food. Best Maid-Rite around.
😋 Yummy. Tasted Delicious, always does!!!
We love Maid-rite, every time we visit marshalltown we have to stop in.
Stopped by the Maid Rite and was treated to prompt service, as usual, then two wonderful Maid Rites prepared perfectly. Dine in us now allowed.
Best loose meat sandwich, fun atmosphere & wonderful employees!!
One of the best places to eat in Marshalltown. Old school diner with countertop seating. Servers are always friendly and food gets to you quick. Couple cheeserites and a shake is my goto.
We stop every time we return to Iowa. Theres nothing better than a fresh homemade Maid-Rite
Grew up in Iowa and Marshalltown Maid-Rite is always one of my go tos when visiting. Somethings changed. Its not crumbly hamburger anymore. Its a mush of hamburger. Kinda the same taste but not really weird texture.
An American classic. Delicious and friendly service!
Awesome food! Great service!
Always a great time. Staff is friendly. Food is wonderful.
I went here because Im new to Iowa and wanted to try a local favorite in marshalltown.First off I wasnt even greeted second they took one persons order and then walked away I didnt like the fact that they all werent wearing masks and theyre talking over the food if anybody knows anything about science talking causes you to spit and when that happens youre spitting all over the food. not only that but I watched one of the employees pick up something off the floor and didnt even go and wash their hands, so I will not be back there and I never tried it .customer service was the worst and this is coming from somebody with 25 years experience in customer service and food hospitality.I was very disappointed and I think they all need to go back and take a health card class.Last thing I want is to eat a loose meat sandwich and end up having a loose meat diarrhea.
I really enjoy the food there
These burgers are the best I’ve ever had! There’s nothing like it. I stopped in Marshaltown Many years ago quite frequently. Taylor’s Maid-Rite was always my first stop and Marshaltown was the perfect place to have them.
U can never go wrong with sandwich and malt from there
Not impressed with this place at all. Very limited menu. Staff just kinda goes through the motions.Located in a fairly run down neighborhood.
Absolutely love the food.
Love miaid rites
The Best Maid-Rites in the state of Iowa.
Good maid-rites, poor, unfriendly service. Waiter was more interested in eating himself than waiting on us. After he was done eating, he sat around talking to other employees. Had to flag done another waitress to pay, since it was clear our waiter wasnt interested in refilling our drinks or getting us another maid-rite (which we wanted).
I drove 50 miles for a Marshalltown maidrite. Waterloo has a maidrite but its not the same.
Amazing as I always remember
Walk up window was open for business. Maid Rites were great with plenty of meat and the milkshakes are really big. Mine was Raspberry and very good.
Very good maidrites. Nice nostalgic restaurant.
Five stars...not because it’s amazing food...but just because it is so unique and so Marshalltown; quirky and maybe just a bit deranged? Came through on a work trip and literally everyone in and around town asked “have you been to Taylor’s Maid-Rite yet?” So we went, cute place great throw-back time-machine feel/vibe. The famous “loose meat sandwich” was about the most underwhelming thing I’ve ever experienced, I am still perplexed why everyone in town raves about it and I thought for a second that maybe it was a prank the locals play on outsiders. But the place was full of regulars talking with the staff...it wasn’t bad, it was fine and completely adequate as food. Sort of a sloppy joe without any sauce. It was fine, and I’ve never seen or heard of or seen since elsewhere such a thing as a loose meat sandwich. So for pure uniqueness and something that embodies Marshalltown Iowa I highly recommend the Taylor’s Maid-Rite experience.
Nice people, Great food, quick service
Taylors Maid-rite is the best in the world! It is a ten plus in stars! Just so good, you have to experience it to truly appreciate it! And their chocolate milkshakes, so delicious! If you ever get to Marshalltown, you must stop by!
Best maid-rites ever!! Luv them!!!
Still the best maidrites Ever!! This will forever be our family favorite!
The food was really good. Nice staff
Best maid rite in the country
+Always Delish!!!🍔🎶
Best sandwiches in Iowa!
Best ever. Anywhere!
Super fast simple food. It was good but thing I couldnt do at home. But its the atmosphere of being in a classic diner that makes it worth it. Its worth going for the feeling. The food is good but its a loose meat sandwich. Try it out.
Just the same as 50 years or so ago
I love this place! Ive been coming here since before I can remember. This is a must have everytime I come home to Iowa.
The best food and people. We eat here once a week
Was hoping they had fries.
Excellent maidrite
Nice day for a drive so we drove 50+miles to Marshalltown in our 1937 Ford for a Maid-Rite. Everyone practicing safe social distancing. Great food and wonderful day!
Best sandwich in town
Best diner on Earth!!
Great as always
Fast, friendly service.
Old school loose meat sandwichs, milkshakes and Really fast service
Mustard was soarBut I loved meat
Great sandwiches and malts
Will always be the best
Since Ive lived in the Central Coast this Place has the Bestest Burgers Ever
You think loose ground beef, what’s the big deal. Big deal is the taste and the fact that all the fat is not cooked away. Great sandwich and shakes/malts. Let your waitress “ pour” the shake into the small glass; you will have it all over the counter. Friendly, fun staff, enjoy. Taylors you NEED a store in Cleveland,,, wish you could serve a beer with the sandwich. A year later, wish I were there to enjoy the Samich
Great staff! Love 😍 this blast from the past (1928 to be exact-thats how long its been there)! It is delicious and just what I hoped for! 😋 If you want Maid-Rites, shakes, malts or pie 🥧 this is a great stop!
Been going here all my life .. has been around for yrs... Excellent loose meat sandwich... Killer malts
Great food and service! But even better is what they are doing to help their community!! Thank you so very much!
Love the maid-rite!
Great food, Maid-Rites usually are. A little bit pricey though in my opinion.
I visited about a year or so before posting this. The meat is pretty good quality. Up to personal opinion if you like it all crumbled instead of in a patty. This location is pretty short on options though. Only burgers and milkshakes.
If your not from Iowa, you need to check this out! Simple, fast, and good food. The atmosphere is charming and the maid-rite sandwiches were great.
I have loved Maid rites since my Uncle Freddie Bissell worked at Taylor’s Maid Rite in Marshalltown after WWII. Over my whole life we have gone there for their great sandwiches. Originally, they did not provide catsup and certainly not mayo. The sandwich was served with raw onion, dill pickle slices, and mustard, or whichever of those you chose. We ordered the sandwich with a milk shake and potato chips. One of my favorite Iowa memories! I still go to a Maid Rite every chance I get.
Ate here as a kid 60 years ago the place hasnt changed much since then. The maid rites are great and the shakes are fabulous. The staff are very friendly and fast looking forward to my next trip back to Iowa
Its always good. Been going since I was a little kid. Still enjoy it. Quick and easy, in and out.
I was introduced to Maid-Rite when I got engaged to my then-boyfriend, and we made a trip to Marshalltown to visit family. 40+ years later, and every time we go back, we have to have 1 or 2 meals here. Others are okay, but the original is where it really shines. Loose meat sandwich, perfectly made. A real chocolate MALT. Top it all off with some home made pie. Yum!
Wish there were more options for sides.
Great place, best maid-rite ever!
Just good food and good people. They know what theyre good at and stick to it. Simple menu, delicious and fast.
Used to be the best sandwiches in town. However I went there this evening and they have changed something. The flavor is different, buns are different. All in all a pretty substantial downgrade. Bring back the original sandwich and Ill re-rate this 5 star. After tonight Id rather eat at a major fast food chain (and I dislike fast food)
Food was good, customer service was great, wished they had French fries and cheddar cheese though. Still a great lunch! Would stop in again if I happen to be in Marshalltown again.
The one and only place to have steamed healthy beef!! Delicious, simple, eclectic dining. I wish this was a good chain!
Cute little diner. I wish they offered other options except a loose hamburger though, which is the only thing on their menu... their milkshakes were great. the staff were very hard workers.
Great for a Delicious Maid Rite and malt!Staff is great. I am always impressed and how the young people working here work so professionally! Would highly recommend
Taylors has been around since 1928. It is a really nice, quaint, sandwich bar that serves only maid-rights. Also well-known or their large malts which are fairly stupendous. Good place to eat.
I give 5 stars because you get exactly what the menu says. It’s not fancy by no means but it is good, I tried the maid rite with cheese and a chocolate malt. Seems a little overpriced for what it is but it’s old fashioned and the place had constant customers in and out the duration I was there so I guess the price is justified by the locals. The staff is friendly and the place is clean, if your looking for something other than the big chains then check it out, it’s worth a stop, family owned and operated. I live in Florida and they offer a two day delivery anywhere in the U.S. so I thought I might get some sent to the fam, after almost falling off the seat from the astronomical price for a dozen at over $120.00 it was quickly decided a no way in .....Definitely not worth that much money. The only way I could even understand that crazy price is if someone grew up in that town and wanted a taste of childhood (place has been open since 1928), other than that it’s laughable. All in all it’s a good little old fashioned place to check out.
