I actually went here to see if they had a particular screw for a pair of glasses. No where else had the size I needed but the guys at Madison Hobby Store helped me out! They let me try out a screw to make sure it worked before buying. Very helpful! Plus the store had some cool stuff to look at and shop around.
Madison Hobby Stop packs a lot in for a relatively small space. They do a good job of ordering the latest and greatest, as well as maintaining a nice selection of hard-to-find items that are no longer in production. Prices are competitive with online shopping and, in some cases, are cheaper when factoring in the cost of shipping. They can also order almost anything that they dont have in stock.
Awesome store. Great service and good value.
Good shop with a good selection of railroad, models, and other hobby products. I enjoy the mix of new and second hand items. Good fair prices as well.
Great place. Good service The only thing I would change is the price could be a little lower on engines and rolling stock
Great shop to buy from!
Best little hoby shop on this area. Been going here for years.Chris will order just about anything I need for my model rr. I like the ability to just go in and chat with fellow modelers as well as all the insite you can pick up from them. Great shop.....thanks Chris.
Chris is great person to work and deal with,Chris, his customers are interesting to visit with. All ways like going there. He will order things you need or want. One of last good hobby shops left.
Always a nice store to visit with a good selection of model trains and plastic kits.
Ive found what I need here, and gotten the help I needed. Really appreciate someone caring about the hobby enough to stock the small parts. Really enjoy chatting with the train repair man there on Fridays. While some of the staff may not be extroverts, theyre very friendly if you take interest in the hobby. Its very clear to me from hanging around the store that they have customer relationships lasting decades. Its refreshing to find a place like this in todays world of algorithm directed commercialization. Subject matter expertise in retail is hip again.By the way, theyll order anything for you if you have an ounce of patience and the prices are comparable to the online hobby places once you factor in shipping.
Good selection
Chris runs a very good hobbyshop, something that is getting rare to find. He has something for everyone whether it be model cars, planes, ships to my favorite... model trains. Good supply of those essentials every model railroader needs especially when that modeler needs something now, not days later via the web.
I’ve enjoyed Chris’s help & friendship for a long time. He runs a great hobby shop with stuff for train guys (like me!), but also model rockets, ship, plane, car, &!military models, plus much more!!
Great little hobby shop. A fair amount of inventory considering its size. More train and model-centric than other hobbies. Support this local business!
Great customer service. Good selection for a small store. Just a good old hobby shop that still focuses on model railroading. My only complaint is the size- its small. I would love to see them grow into something larger.
I agree with what others have said about the non-friendly atmosphere. A simple acknowledgment of existence upon entering the store and a how may we help you today would go a long way in making someone feel welcomed.... especially if you are a new customer. Aside from that, they do have a great selection. Everything from plastic model kits and supplies to magazines.
I agree with the previous and other reviews. They have a very limited stock of anything that would get you started in the model train hobby. My son loves HO and now N scale, we have yet to purchase anything useful from this shop. Ive been there a couple times now and the staff is as friendly as a wet sock. The prices are out of control and half the trains you arent sure are for sale or for show. We found some cheap used track so that was nice, but other than that Ill drive anywhere else for these items.
Ive had good luck finding things here. I will admit, they are set back from the street, and one would have to actively search them out. Selection is good, by todays standards, but the ambiance can be improved on (i.e. working layout featuring some new releases, for instance) .
I cant say much for the products, but the staff was pretty cold and unwelcoming. My recently turned 4 year old had gotten a total of $40 for his birthday, & has been a train enthusiast since he was 1 1/2 (nearly his entire life!). He has been into thomas, and other kiddie track sets, but we had recently been to a model train show and was very intrigued. So when I found the hobby shop, I told him about it, and with his $40 burning a hole in his pocket, he was very eager to check it out.Upon entering, not one of the several grown men standing around discussing trains greeted us. I had pictured this idealistic vision of someone (anyone) perhaps showing him around the store and telling him about model trains (which would have also been good business to get us back into the store to make more purchases in the future, but what do I know). So we meandered around with him wanting to buy literally everything ($40 would NOT go very far there, woof) though there were a couple used model trains he could have been able to afford & he was interested in.But not only did the group of men continue to ignore us, nor help us find something for my son, but one of the men literally followed us around the store suspiciously like we were going to break or steal something at any moment (we didnt, though I was tempted out of spite). I understand the caution around a young kid & expensive merchandise, but he could have at least masked his paranoia as feigned interest by showing him items in the shop. After several minutes of feeling like a leper in a nudist colony, I offered to my son that we should instead go to the toy store & he can find something there, so at least we didnt go home empty handed. And guess what? We didnt get a goodbye either. Thanks for nothing, guys :/
Nice hobby shop.. Im a train guy and its a very good place to pick up a few needed items and ideas when Im in town
Nice selection, good prices, friendly service.
I have known the owner Chris for many years. Great selection of trains as well as plastic model cars, trucks, armour, and planes.
Really good selection of model railroading supplies in most scales. And very helpful with special orders from Walthers too.
Very nice little hobby shop. Good selection of models and trains as well as paints and other modeling supplies. Very friendly owner.
I needed to track down some paint that would work on a plastic boat model and the Hobby Stop delivered. I had no issues getting my questions answered and was able to pick up my paints and brushes for much cheaper than I expected.
I liked the place. Good selection and good service. Ill return.
One of the best hobby shops Ive been too! A must stop if youre in Madison!
Good place to get hobby material.
Hard to find, but worth the trip. Enter building underneath the clock tower. There is a small indoor mall between the strip mall storefronts.
Great place for model trains and ideas
They always have what I’m looking for.
Great experience a lot of stuff to choose from
Great little hobby shop.

Great place to get Models! Reminds me of England, where they jam the shelves with models, and dont lack any products!
