Everyone at Heid is terrific, but serious respect to Nathaniel the Ukulele Sommelier in particular. Hes knowledgeable, friendly, boundlessly patient (no, seriously), and is committeed to making sure you find the right instrument and then adjusting it to make sure it plays the way you want it to play. The store has a wide selection of makes and sizes and if they dont have what youre looking for, hell order it either from one of the other stores or from the maker. If youre in the market for instruments with frets (or their accessories), definitely go consult with Nathaniel at Heid!
Excellent store. Everything music. A happy place for sure
Driven by many a-times, but I have zero musical talent. One of my daughters plays viola at school but she found a ukulele at a thrift shop and liked it too. So for Christmas I went to Heid on the advice of a friend that has a very high musical IQ. First thing is the store was much bigger than I would have thought. Very nicely laid out, clean and well organized. Staff was very inviting, friendly and knowledgeable. Nathaniel took the time to show me several options, explained pros and cons and gave very honest opinions. I didnt know what to expect and was apprehensive but he put me at ease and made me feel welcome. I have found my music store and music man. Thanks guys!
We were shopping for a step-up drum set for our son. We called and spoke with Nathaniel, who sent me an email with a few used possibilities. He also informed us of a used Gretsch Catalina set at Heid in Appleton, which he had sent down the very next day for us to try. It ended up being exactly what we had in mind, and weve already surprised our son with early Xmas. He loves it!Nathaniel was friendly, articulate, knowledgeable, listened to our needs, and delivered the goods! He updated us promptly on the status of delivery, hooked us up with all the peripherals (kick drum, high hat, snare stand, stool) then tuned the drums for us very next day take home. We cant say enough about Heids service, and particularly Nathaniels detailed care.
Heid Music, specifically Dan Cross, did a wonderful job facilitating my needs and wants in a digital piano—answering my questions, anticipating my concerns and overcoming them, and thoroughly reviewing all available payment options. Not once did I feel pressured. The transaction process was seamless. The piano movers were absolutely wonderful and cordial. The whole experience was top-notch. Dan is a true professional.
The employees are always nice, super chill atmosphere, fun to check out the guitars. Plus the design of the place is coolThey often have strings on clearance which is awesomeBought a classical guitar music book a while back, been loving it!
Great place !! Nathaniel, sales / guitar tech is highly professional, knowledgeable and has a great work ethic. Great selection and service. Run, dont walk there!
Couldnt service my autoharp, but they guided me to another music store. Their rental policies deem fantastic, according to my friend
They have the best guitars!
I called Heidi music to ask for some information regarding a Ross kit. The gentleman who answered the phone was very helpful and spent a good amount of time trying to answer my questions. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.
Bought a tenor uke here and had a bass guitar restrung. Had a pleasant experience with both interactions. The staff seemed pretty knowledgeable, at least in comparison to a near by larger chain store. Prices seemed competitive and selection was decent.Update: The Kala ukulele I bought ended up having some issues. Heid Music was amazing in the way they handled the situation.
I walked into my cables and strings and walked out with a nice new Ibanez. Wonderful store and great staff
Very friendly and helpful!
Very knowledgeable and willing to help you fill your musical needs.
Great staff; very knowledgeable. Didnt pressure me into a sale. Made me feel comfortable and in control of the process. Gave me ample time to play through many instruments at my own pace. Very supportive; would recommend to others. Worked with Craig and Mike.
This place is huge but also warm and inviting. I have been on the hunt for a new keyboard and I went to another local music store in town that was recommended to me by a colleague but had a terrible experience. I did a google search for music stores in Madison and I am so happy I found Heid Music! I was greeted when I walked in and the beautiful grand pianos caught my eye immediately (I cannot wait until I have the space/money for one of my own). A friendly guy with a dark beard saw me looking at the pianos and helped me pick out a great, inexpensive, Yamaha keyboard. I have been loving my piano!
Great music shop! Great selection and quality. I brought in my violin to be restrung. Its difficult to find a shop that does repairs on delicate string instruments but this place does it all. They also have tons of print music and accessories that are sometimes difficult to find.
I come to this store very often and love it every time I come in. I have bought a great and trumpet and a great acoustic guitar from this store along with a lot of smaller items. The employees are always willing to help. You can play a lot of their items in store as well. Overall, it is one of the best music stores in Madison/Middleton and my personal favorite
I stopped in this store for the first time today to see about a repair for my sons acoustic guitar. I was amazed at the outstanding level of customer service I received--clearly the best service experience Ive had anywhere this year.I am unfamiliar with string instruments, and I shared that fact when asking about what repair was needed to fix the guitars problem. The staff person, Michael, took the time to not just repair the guitar, but to teach me how it is done and educate me about what to look for to make sure the guitar sounds its best. That he did this with genuine Wisconsin niceness without any condescension or rushing made my day. I am a hard sell and not easy to impress, but I really wish I could rate this store six stars for my experience today.
Went for jazz sheet music. Admittedly disappointed limited selection of piano sheet and book music. However staff set me up with earphones to plug in and Sample the music which was wonderful. Great service.Drawback? If looking for sheet music, limited.
In short: Dont go here for guitars.Ive had an issue with them almost every time Ive gone into the store looking to buy something.I found a used Epiphone Casino there that played really nicely (probably setup before it entered the store, as many of their guitars are setup like ass), but the sound was cutting out when plugged in and it was making a strange buzzing noise inside the guitar when played acoustically. Not to mention, two of the amps I played through which were brand new sounded like they were falling apart. Anyway, the guitar was overpriced as it was, and talking them down was like pulling teeth. The clerk said it was more expensive because it was vintage (it was a 2007.) Alright, guy.I finally settled at a price I was OK with (and they still charged me tax after they said theyd let me walk away at the price before tax, but whatever), and tell them Id like to have it gone over before I take it home. The guy says hell have their guitar tech take a look at it. Cool. Little did I know the guitar tech in question is in Green Bay, and, get this, when I call to pick up my guitar, they tell me theres a three-week turnaround. Wouldve been nice to know that before. Absurd.I was frustrated so I asked for a refund. The lady on the phone cant process it and has to call her manager who is not at work to get permission. She tells me the manager will get a hold of me before they close and of course I hear nothing. So, Im still working through this nonsense.A couple other examples: A while back, I brought a used Telecaster to the counter that was listed for a good price, not an insane bargain but a good price, so I was going to buy it. The manager comes over and tells me thats not the right price and its actually supposed to be $100 more. I walked. I also took a guitar there to have pickups changed. When I got the guitar back, it was poorly soldered and cutting out. They might be fine for band instruments or classical lessons, but they are completely incompetent when it comes to guitars. Ive given them a couple of tries because theyre not far from my work and in an attempt to give a local company some business over a big box store, but Im officially done with Heid Music. Go to the Guitar Shop of WI on the east side if you want a real guitar store in Madison.
We received individualized attention and fabulous customer service at the Tree Lane location. You can tell the people that work there are musicians themselves and they didnt try to sell us anything that we didnt want or need. I am so glad we stopped in!Note: We were in the drums, alto sax and viola sections.
Bought a guitar here for my son. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Took their time to answer all of our question and made sure we had everything we needed. I also asked if they have any used Yamaha Baritones for my other son. They did not but put is on the waoting list. Excited that they called us back when they got it in. Even held it for a week until we could get there because we live out of town. On our way to pick it up today.
Have bought a few guitars from here as well as other equipment. The staff and the Heid family are very down to earth and its always a great experience!
Great helpful advice help from the nice lady on the phone. Thanks!
I couldnt believe it when I heard Madison was getting another local music store, after the closure of Good & Loud and the downsizing of Ward Brodt. And yet we did (and Ginters expanded and Daves Guitar Shop is coming, but I digress).Heid Music originated in Appleton, WI. My mom, who grew up in Appleton and has taught piano lessons since she was a teenager (she now has a teenage granddaughter and is still teaching) had her first recitals at their flagship Appleton store. Their focus is on piano, band, orchestra, and sheet music, but they also have a decent selection of guitars. Not much by way of basses, keyboards, or drums, but they do have SOMETHING.Its a little more mellow than Guitar Center, Ginters, or Good & Loud. You wont hear 20 different versions of Smoke On The Water at the same time. You may hear several piano pieces, all at varying skill levels. The staff has always been helpful to me. Ive bought smaller things there (straps, strings, etc) but havent made a big purchase yet. I do check there consistently.Worth the stop on your way to Guitar Center. Definitely better than Guitar Center in a lot of ways.
Atmosphere is nice and the employees seem pretty down to earth and friendly.
Helpful staff, and nice store. Fairly good selection of electric/acoustic pianos.
We have been taking our daughter here for private lessons for the past year. When we buy things there the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable.
Closed at 6:58 on a Fri? Nice move!
Large selection of music. Staff is friendly and very helpful.
Its great and has a huge selection!
Sent two trumpets in to get cleaned not long ago. Gold one came back just fine, but my silver trumpet came back with scratches and was tarnished.
I got a trumpet mute, valve oil, and a pTrumpet here. They have some sheet music, not a whole lot but some.
Excellent staff, very helpful and knowledgeable
Come here if you want to be treated like dirt and wont even be acknowledged at the checkout when youre ready to make a purchase.
Great store!
