I eat here almost every time I come to Madison. Love it. Opened when I lived here. Still here 3 decades later.
I’m lost as to why this place reviews were so high. Food is super bland, flavorless… we ordered pad Thai which was so so sweet and had a hint of sour but that’s it!! And we asked it to be spicy. We ordered a dish with beef and lady brought us chicken. We ordered two Thai teas and never got it either. The fried rice, the rice was hard as heck! None to little flavor, can’t even remember what it tasted like. The best thing we got was the spring rolls. I definitely would not recommend this place.
Amazing food which is all made by hand (even stuff that doesn’t need to be they continue to make my hand). Me and my boyfriend order here at least once a week. Evwryrhing’a always delicious!
Never fails me. Best pad Thai in town.
Allways good thai food
Got takeout and ate outside at their tables on the patio. I had the tofu spring rolls. They were delicious and the staff was incredibly kind.
Great food! Clean and inviting atmosphere. The people were genuinely nice. One of the best Thai food Ive had.
I got it through DoorDash so that may have something to do with the problems I had, but the restaurant certainly had a lot to do with it as well. I ordered Tom Yum with chicken, and received tofu instead. The soup itself tasted very off from other places I have went. The pad Thai was dry & lacking in flavor. This wouldnt be cause for even two starts for me, but immediately after eating it I felt awful for a day straight. If youre looking for fantastic Thai cuisine, check out Halong Bay on Willy Street - way better prices, bigger portions, and youll actually enjoy your meal and not end up tossing it in the garbage.
Friendly service and delicious food. Ill definitely recommend the shredded papaya salad and the custard based dessert. Loved the ambience and the soothing music. Tried the Pad Ma-Keur speciality, loved the sauce seasoning but not a fan of sweet flavor. Overall would definitely recommend a visit for Thai cuisine.
Again great food! Grey day and needing fresh crunch of veggies. My love of this place and care they put into meals. Summer rolls always a start. No matter what I have ordered in past never had that one odd piece of meat like you sometimes get. Flavors are unique to each dish. Not just a slurry of soy and sesame oil. Thanks for being here with quality and extra thanks for being here NOW with same quality!Best of Madison again in my book!
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Madison. I have eaten here more times than I could count, and every time it’s delicious. Also, the wait staff is so accommodating and nice!
I am not sure what others see in this place.I ordered Pad Thai with chicken. What I got was the following. Barely any chicken. It came with shrimp, which I did not select...The noodles were over cooked. Vegetables were minimal. Very disappointed.
Duck curry is my treat every time I go there. Absolutely wonderful!
Wonderful staff, very good food, tons of options.
This place slaps! I got the regular Pad Thai and it was so good 😋 I had heard from some friends that this was the best place for Thai food in Madison, and they were right. I’ll be back fosho 😏
This place is consistently amazing. I’ve been going here almost 10 years now and I’ve never had a single complaint. The spring rolls are extremely delicious. The only complaint I have is I always ask for 4 star spicy and it’s very mild spice. I’m not sure if it’s my tolerance or they think I made a mistake ordering that much spice, but don’t expect it to be very spicy. Other than that you cannot go wrong ordering food from here, it is exceptional quality.
This place is definitely not 4 star vegetarian food was below average.
Food is too sweet, I was expecting nativity actual tahi food flavors and there is non. Chick is fry and I am sure it is not fresh.. nothing authentic
If you are feeling like Pho its a great place to go, enjoyed the meal and will be going back.
This is one of our favorite places in madison! The food is amazing and the staff is really friendly. My favorite dish is the Ka Ree curry :)
Three Stars. The food is nothing to write home about but it is not bad. They never provide silverware even if you ask, so not a good delivery option if you arent home. Multiple times they forget parts of your meal. If you want this type of cuisine I would recommend looking elsewhere first. But good last resort.Update: changed to 1 star. Got silverware from restuarant near by. Pad thai tasted like ketchup. Horrible americanized food. Go elsewhere.Anyone that says the pad thai is good do not have tastebuds or any knowledge on good food.
I like the duck curry here: tasty, authentic and not as expensive as some other high-end restaurants. And its easy to park outside it.
One of the best menus of any restaurant Ive tried
The wait staff was patient, answered all our questions, and were attentive to our table. The food was varied and it was all good.
Great food. Excellent service.
Too long waiting period. Delayed my plans
Some of the better Pad Thai in Madison (and Im on a mission to try them all). The sauce isnt overpowering and drippy, often a major problem with American pad thai. The spice is quite weak though; I got the 4/5 rating and it wasnt spicy at all.The sauce is still too red, too much emphasis on sugars, salts, and seasonings instead of fresh vegetables and peanuts like a Thai place in Thailand would provide. But it was still very good.My partner had the udon noodle pad see ew and she pronounced it delicious. She accidentally had a miscommunication with the elderly server and wanted 50% spice level, but the server must have heard that as little spicy and therefore to be safe, must have put no more than a sprinkle in there.
Great food, decent service and pretty interior
Wonderful service - flavorful food.
Weve generally had great experiences here but today the food was disappointing. The sauce for the sweet & sour chicken was watery and tasted like it was diluted with chicken broth. On our other dish, the noodles were big, fat, and mushy as opposed to the thinner noodles received in the past. Bummer☹️
I have been a happy customer here since 2003. Every time no matter what I order the food is made to perfection. I moved an hour away for work, but I still find the time to drive back at least once a month if not more because the food is that good.
The best Thai restaurant in Madison.
42B Pa Nang with Tofu has been my staple here. Been going to Sa-Bai for over 20 years, some of the best Thai food I have ever had and Ive been to Thailand 🇹🇭
Ordered the summer spring rolls which were fine but the Pad Thai was awful. It was very dry, bites were in clumps as if the noodles were over cooked. We were quoted 25 min and we got there in that time. The food was still very hot but it seemed as if it was left there for a very long time. Not pleased. Went someplace else to eat after since the food wasnt very good.
We were parking and planning on going into a restaurant nearby when we walked by SBT and smelled the great Thai food from outside. We decided to go in here instead. Food was good and affordable. I always struggle to make a decision on Thai food. I got the Pad Thai and my wife got a rice/mung noodle and veggie dish. We would definitely go back again.
The takeout I received was so freshly prepared and delicious! Amazing flavor and quality of food.
Order placed 2 hours ago and no word. Called there to be told the driver left quite a while ago with many orders at a time so it should eventually be here...cold by then I assume. No apologies. Turned off completely. Not again.Update- management responded to my concerns immediately. I am pleased to report my initial experience seemed to be an isolated incident related to weather and the the additional time needed to make everything from scratch. We gave it another go and the taste of everything ordered was amazing! Will definitely be a long term customer. Thanks!
We ordered chicken pad thai and shrimp pad thai. The shrimp pad thai had a BUG in it! We were horrified. This was the first time eating there and we will NOT be going back.
I have always liked to dine here but this time, I ordered pa-nang curry for pick up by phone. Ordered a COMBINATION of beef and chicken and had no one told me that actually means I ordered a beef (+$0.5) and EXTRA chicken (+$3). So I ended up paying $18 for one dish quick dinner and was too big to fit my stomach.I would naturally think COMBINATION means HALF& HALF especially when other restaurants always have such an option of “combination” with only a little surcharges like $1 in total. When I brought this up to the server, she simply explained that they don’t do half& half without solving anything for me. I don’t wanna argue there but should definitely post this so people can know.
Called to place an order that came to almost $100. I was told that the food would arrive within the hour. To my surprise the food arrived in about 45mins. Score! Well at least we thought so. My husband went downstairs to get the food to discover nothing. I double checked to make sure they knew which hotel we were in and it was still screwed up. An hour and 20 minutes later my food arrives. Mind you, they are 10 minutes from our hotel. I called to ask that my ice cream be removed and they take 5%- 10% percent off the price. Oh, I forgot to mention I added a 15% gratuity. Well I was told they would remove the charge for the ice cream and that was it. Shocked, I told them that was not enough for melted ice and cold food. I was told, sorry but that is all the restaurant was willing to offer. That is HORRIBLE customer service. They were willing to risk tons of potential customers over $5 bucks! I told them to remove the tip and would be posting my poor customer service online. I suggest the owners read, The million dollar egg. Really silly move. Oh did I also mention they screwed up my youngest daughters food. So she had nothing to eat. Thanks for nothing Sa-Bai!! Never again!!!
This is one of my favorite places to eat!!!! You wont be disappointed with anything you choose, great quality food. The staff is friendly and polite and the atmosphere is very pleasant. I only wish I lived closer so I could go more often. Seriously check it out!
I wish I could give negative star. The worst food I have ever tested. My husband and I both hated the food. If you are making food please maintain at least eatable standard. It doesnt have to be delicious.
Food was so tasty and perfect for delivery. The Pa-Naeng, Pad Thai and Pad-Z-You were great, especially the Pad-Z-You. The Pork Fried Rice was a bit dry but still nice when mixed with the Pa-Naeng.
A great place! Delicious food, attentive server. My only hope was that there would have been more veggies. Both meals we had contained a LOT of chicken. It was so yummy, though.
We have been coming here for quite a while now whenever we go to the VA Hospital for appointments. We love this place, the ambiance and their food! I love their pad thai and Dean loves the pineapple curry, and the Thai iced tea. We definitely talked about this place to our friends, and highly recommend it. The prices are fair enough. Thank you so much!
Surprisingly good. Tried a few appetizers and they were very good. I had the Pad Thai with shrimp and it was amazing. Servers were very attentive and fast. Definitely recommend.
This is a great place, that features highly authentic Thai food. The food is excellent, and prices are very fair. The decor is very tasteful, and everything is spotless. There is even outdoor seating available when the weather is good. The wait staff is friendly and quick. You should try it.
Five stars IF you have Fong or Toy as servers. They ensure that you receive enough vegetables. For the last year, prices went up and the amount of vegetables went down. Great taste! Recommend #54.
Incredible!!! Ill always go here.
Ive been here a handful of times and have always had a great experience. Good service, delicious food. Im still relatively new to the world of Thai food but I dont think you can go wrong with anything on their extensive menu! My recent favorite is their chicken satay appetizer - highly recommend!
The Pad-Z-You was absolutely spectacular! The Volcano Chicken was also very good. Personally, I think it could have used a little more spice, but that is something I could have easily asked for. The Thai Iced Tea and Coffee were both delicious as well!
Ive been to this place 5 times over the last couple years. Each time, the food quality has gotten worse. Our last visit, was the last time we will ever eat here. We only went here out of convenience, since the better restaurants on Willy & Atwood didnt open until 5 and we were having an early dinner. The portions vs price and quality were so bad, I cant believe there arent more bad reviews on here to be honest. Bai Bai
Love this place for a quick pad Thai or pad phe kring or other Thai dishes that I cant remember. The level of spiciness can be adjusted as per your taste buds. I like the adventurous spice level as you can enjoy the heat and the food at the same time. I have in the past tried their max heat level, which is way too much red peppers. I could go for more quantity for the price paid, so giving 4 stars. They have two locations and both of them have the same menu. The one on University has less parking space. The service is friendly and quick. I will certainly come back to savor other dishes on the menu.
Surprisingly understated flavors for a Thai restaurant. The twenty year old venue is generally well maintained, though the dirty air vents and ceiling tiles are a turn off. Meal pace is excellent, making it a solid option if you are looking for a quick lunch. My Pad Thai omelet with shrimp lacked the bolder flavors that I am accustomed to with this style of cooking.
Pad Thai order took an hour, then it was wrong. Then they refused to fix it. Never going back.
Hands down my favorite Thai food place in madison. I’ve tried most things in the menu and have never had something I didn’t like. The meal portions are pretty large so if you order appetizers and an entree you get left overs for lunch! Winning all around! Also, if you live the gluten free life they’re pretty knowledgeable about what is and is not gluten free. Most of their rice noodle dishes as well as their curries are gluten free already, so no need to modify things!
0 stars for food. Me and two my friends ordered 3 different meals and app - didn’t enjoy it at all. I tried much better Thai food before! But our waitress was really great. Place has nice atmosphere and it’s very clean. But the food is just not tasty...
Its a nice restaurant! Nice food and warm welcome servers! Just next to the main road. Very convenient to parking! Suitable for group meeting and lovers.
Food here is always delicious! One of my go-to restaurants for Thai food in Madison. A great variety of food dishes available. Service is great, waiters always checking in periodically to make sure everything is going smoothly. Highly recommend this place for a nice casual dinner with friends and family.
It is definitely worth coming even in such a cold weather. Service was really good, they were willing to make specials for us. Environment is good, and I liked the salad a lot! Definitely would come back!
We usually like this place, but this was the second time I was disappointed in my experience and will not be going back. My dinner was ordered extra spicy, and it was bland (I was asked if I wanted to add chili sauce... if I wanted to cook food, I would have done that at home). It was also loaded with tofu, and not a lot of eggplant, as was advertised on the menu, and lastly, it tasted like it was a rush-job. When I bit into a green pepper that was cold in the center, I knew I had had enough. The tofu was sliced halfway through so that it was impossible to separate the pieces with chopsticks. Our waiter was unfriendly and didnt seem to particularly care that I didnt enjoy the food.Edit: To the owner- thank you for responding.I declined the hot sauce because my meal was supposed to include it. I didnt want to have to make it myself. That was also the only time we were asked how our food was and I didnt have a chance to let our waiter know about the tofu until our checks were brought... and her response was totally nonchalant. About half of my food was left on the plate, and I usually do not leave any food. Honestly, your response to a valid complaint was more disappointing than the food that was served.
Excellent food, fast and nice service, tons of dining area, and good prices. Be conservative on your spiciness, itll be hotter than you think 😋
I love this place! The food tasted great and the service is awesome! Everyone that works here is really nice and cares about their customers. They have a lot on their menu and everything I’ve gotten so far has been amazing!
Always a good experience. An excellent go to restaurant when you don’t want to cook or for a date. Some of the staff seem to real veterans at their jobs that truly deserve to be appreciated. Our family’s go to for good nearby food
By far the best Thai I have eaten. Thai is my favorite and I have tried several places both in Madison and Chicago. This place is by far the best. Also, the most delicious crab rangoons. I also love the spicy scale. I have never physically eaten at the restaurant, we always order out, but the staff is always friendly when we pick up.
Have never had a bad meal there. Live 3 hrs away, but try to get there at least every other month. Prices good for amount of food you get. And lovely atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff.
Extensive Asian menu. Established, well run restaurant. Pad Thai and Pa Naeng are #1 and #2 most popular. Two ate for 25.40 plus 1.40 tax = 26.80 + 5 tip = 31.80. Clean restaurant and attentive service.
Quick and fast service. Food is delicious. It had been awhile since I last visited. Will have to come back sooner next time. Crying Tiger was yummy. I should have kicked it up a few notches on the heat meter.
Never had bad food here. Everything my friends and I have tried is amazing. Reasonably priced. Waitstaff always super friendly and quick. Delivery can be hit or miss, but getting take out is as good as ordering in. Favorite restaurant in Madison.
This restaurant is pretty good. They have a very polite staff and seated is quickly. Their food options are plenty and their food is very good as well.
We love this place. My partner and I have eaten here many times in the years we have been together. We come here for date night and just good lunch. It is my partner’s favorite Thai restaurant in Madison.
Hands down the best Thai food in Madison! The service and quality of the food are both outstanding. They also have genuinely celiac safe food, which is hard to find. Try any of the curries and Thai iced tea!
Excellent Thai cuisine. Easily visible on north side of University Avenue, set in a strip mall. Ample parking. Food is good, choices are plenty. Servings are generous. Order takers are polite. Food comes in a timely manner. Recommend the Tom Kha soup.If you deem this review helpful, please give it a like. Thank you.
We were happily greeted by friendly staff and immediately seated. Clean, Pleasant environment and clean restrooms. Restaurant has a lot of natural light and soothing colors and decor appropriate for a Thai restaurant. Our server greeted us within a minute of being seated for our drink orders and answered all our questions. Staff very knowledgeable on the menu and offered wonderful suggestions.Tuesday is $2.00 beer which made my husband very happy. Drinks and food arrived promptly after ordering. Our entree came with choice of salad or soup, we had one of each. Soup came out piping hot, salad cold and crisp with delicious dressing. Our shrimp purse appetizer followed within a few minutes which we had never tried before. Nice presentation and nice change from egg rolls, they’re like shrimp dumpling in a fried phyllo...delicious. We would definitely order this again.Husband ordered Red Curry with Crispy Duck and I ordered Pad Thai...had to try the Pad Thai. Both presentations beautiful. Red Curry with Crispy Duck flavors were complex, rich and creamy, Duck nicely crisped. Husband said the best red Curry he’s ever eaten and he’s traveled the world. Second best Pad Thai I’ve ever eaten (I had the pleasure of eating Pad Thai at the restaurant owned by the woman who Beat Bobby Flay on Pad Thai throwdown). We will definitely return whenever we’re in Madison WI.
Sabai Thong univ ave has always been my fa vorite Asian restaurant - I was worried that the covid-19 pandemic would shut it down, but, theyre still open for takeaway and delivery. This makes being shutin less painful because our family can still enjoy their great food, especially their crispy duck and tom ka soup.
Food was fantastic but we waited for 45 minutes after being seated before seeing any food including appetizers. I wish the waiter wouldve given us some expectations on the wait times. It became a guessing game of when our food would arrive after 30 minutes.
It’s a great place to eat. Food was delicious and it was delivered fast. I would recommend you to eat here :)
Very nice restaurant with plenty of space on Sun lunch. We have 8 people and got seated really quick. Food is pretty good for me (#42), and it has monthly special. Price can be a bit expensive for me (~$14) for my curry.
The volcano chicken was excellent. The pad z-you with noodles and beef was good, but lacked any heat. Overall the food was delicious, but not as hot as I would of expected for Thai food.
Consistently good food. One of my favorite dishes is green curry and I also like the green papaya salad.
Came here with a large group and they were very accommodating. Food was good and staff were very friendly. Would go again
Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Thai food. Their Crab Rangoon is too good to be true. Some of my other favourites include their Jungle curry, Pad Thai and Thai Iced tea. Definitely drop in for a taste of authentic Thai food!
Beautiful interior - nice and quiet, beautifully clean restrooms. But the food (the main reason we came) was actually fairly bland - especially the entrees. Both of us were pretty unimpressed. Egg rolls (and Thai sauce) were actually quite good, but pricey, accordingly. Spring rolls, we were told, were pre-made, in advance, so no alterations were possible at all.Glad I tried it, but probably wont return.
This was my second visit. The first time it was a stop and grab for dinner. This time was a holiday lunch. The service was great and the Sabai Noodles were amazing. Will definitely be one of my go to restaurants in Madison.
Always the best Thai food place, hands down. I have never been disappointed here. Everything they serve is amazing! Our favorite place for takeout. Get the duck.
Always a great time! Come here with my coworkers every semester. Nice people and good service.
