Food and service was fast. Patty melt and yanks (potatoes) tasted great, but the chocolate chip pancakes were only okay according to the rest of the table. One of the orders of pancakes maybe had batter that wasnt mixed well, but the taste and texture were really off. We didnt eat any of it, so the staff replaced it with an omelette for us super quick at no charge. Staff and speed were very impressive for how busy the place was. I would definitely come back to try some other food in the future.

Visited from out of state before the Penn State vs. University of Wisconsin football game on 9/2/21.Must stop for anyone visiting Madison for the first time. Exactly the type of place you would see on ESPN’s college football “Campus Eats” tour hosted by Todd Blackledge. You get a massive amount of food for such a cheap price! Definitely want to go here on an empty stomach - a true throwback!Only complaint is the place is cash only/no credit cards

Great experience. Was just riding by on my bike and saw it. Its an old school diner so no Beermosas or mimosas. Very busy on a Friday morning. We sat at the bar to save time on waiting for a table. Its also fun to watch the staff bustle about and make the shakes! We ordered the coffee cake to start and it was delicious. Then we ordered breakfast plates with eggs, and the works. Good portions, actually huge portions, and very tasty. The service was slow, but thats because the place was so busy. We werent in a rush and enjoyed the scene.

Perfect spot, right around the corner from camp Randall. Go for the scrambler, it’s big enough to share and I usually get the gravy on the side. Super cool interior, very old time diner with the original menu still up on the walls from back when a meal was $0.50. A must in Madison, but super busy at some times during the week and doesn’t take reservations so be prepared to wait in a line that wraps around the corner!

Such a cool local spot. The line went out the door and down the street, so if youre hungry, I would arrive before you are. But even so, its well worth the wait. The menu is huge, so I dont really think you can go wrong. They care about their customers too. While you are waiting in line, they walk around asking if anyone would like coffee while you await your turn to go in. The food was good and they service was very friendly. Its right off of campus and you can see the stadium from line. I would highly recommend checking it out. You wont be disappointed.

We went for breakfast and it was a great place to go for good food and really good value. It is very small and I wouldnt advise really large groups go unless you have time to kill. Also they will not sit anyone until everyone in the party is there. They are a cash only establishment but they have an ATM on site to use of needed. We had the scrambler and it was great! It is a ton of food, but the cheese and gravy is fantastic. For next time I would get extra gravy on the side because the potatoes are lightly seasoned and can lack flavor if you dont eat all of the ingredients together.

I had been hearing all about Mickies so I finally caved and went for breakfast on a Saturday morning.I ordered the pancakes, but they were so big and dry. My boyfriend ordered the chili omelet which was outstanding, so I definitely would suggest that. They only accept cash too, which conveniently they have an ATM there if it catches you by surprise like us.The decor was cute, straight out of the 1950s ish era. The biggest downfall for me was how small and crowded this place is. For being so popular, you would think they would invest in a larger space. People were on top one another and it was very uncomfortable to eat there. You felt rushed to eat, especially as the line of people outside waiting to get in stared at you.I dont think I will go back due to that. The food didnt impress me too much to make the trip either.

Mickies is a Madison classic. Its probably got the most value-for-money food in the city, with huge portion sizes of delicious food for very low prices. You get two dinner plate sized fluffy pancakes, about 3/4 an inch thick, for $6. I tried the chocolate chip one and buttermilk. The chocolate chip was still a little raw in the middle when I got it, and the server was happy to replace it. They were really nice and had the perfect quantity of chocolate in them so you dont feel like youre just consuming sugar. My favorite is the buttermilk pancakes though, with tons of butter on top! They make really amazing large omelettes too, that come with toast and potatoes as well if I remember right. You can even build your own with whatever fillings you like! You can ask for gravy too if you like.Their scramblers here are to die for. SO MUCH of the potatoes, eggs and cheese, along with a side of toast and gravy! This is definitely two meals worth, unless youve got a large enough appetite!Their shakes are decent, but not much variety here. The only flavor I can have is a chocolate peanut butter, and unfortunately it isnt on their menu. I did manage to get the server to make me one once, but they refused every other time saying a staff member had a peanut allergy. Its probably for the better though, coz I find it impossible to finish a shake and a full menu item in one go at this place!

I was super excited to visit Mickies Dairy Bar for the first time yesterday. It was like taking a step back in time. Such an iconic 1940s diner! We visited on a slow day so did not have to wait in line to get a coveted table but I almost think that would have added to the experience. The fact people stand outside in line waiting for a seat pretty much says it all. The food is simply prepared, the portions are hearty and exactly what you want from your favorite breakfast joint. Our server was super pleasant and we wanted for nothing. I cant say enough about the pancakes. Theyre the size of dinner plate, dense, moist and incredibly flavorful. What a great experience. I didnt get the guys name who greeted me at the front door he was wearing a Green Bay t-shirt and a Green Bay beanie. As soon as I walked in he greeted me immediately I told him I was interested in the corned beef hash and he told me all about the hash it was house made with several different spices that gave it a slight spicy kick but nothing overwhelming. I ordered the hash at the bar and a cup of coffee. Im used to corned beef hash in Santa Cruz California Santa Clara California and San Diego California. Im traveling United States in my RV and Jeep and seeking out great corned beef hash. This was a four out of five stars or a 7 out of 10. Just the right amount of spicy kick to make it a little different. I wish I had time to try the rest of the menu.
