Super good coffee shop with sandwiches. Ordered for 8 people and they got it all correct!!! That almost never happens anywhere else
The windy ci-tea is my go to. Perfectly sweet and balanced. Get it hot in the winter and iced in the summer. this location is perfect for people watching on farmers market days
I liked this place. But the union busting efforts of the company made it a no-go to me. Look out for places that take the rights and the well-being of their employees seriously.
Great chai and very prompt with service even if crowded.
Inadequately staffed. Ordered a plain iced coffee and 15 minutes later I had to leave without my coffee so that I wouldn’t be late to a commitment. Unfortunate
Avoid at all costs. This location decided to shut down to try and stop a unionization attempt from their workers and are still complaining about it. There are other good coffee places on the square now.
Just had the worst experience Ive ever had here now that theyve reopened. They must have gotten a new system, because I ordered an iced coffee, and instead of just giving it to me right away, they had me sit and wait for the rest of my order to be done (a burrito). All while I saw my drink sitting there for 5-10 minutes, and it was _not_ busy. Also they got my order wrong, gave me the fancy cold brew instead of the iced coffee. If this is the new normal for Colectivo Ill pass. I go here deliberatley because its _not_ starbucks.
The Cold brew smoothie is not worth $8.50. 1) they forgot about it and made it 15 minutes later 2) it was super watery and they didn’t blend the peanut butter. It was all stuck to the side of the cup. 3) didn’t even taste like it had much cold brew and it was super grainy.Definitely not impressed with this place - wouldn’t recommend.
Great vegetarian options! Best coffeeshop in town.
Some damn good coffee!
I didnt like the coffee. Very sour. They dont have bold/dark coffee and pancakes. I was a little disappointed about that. Very kind staff, barista makes a show of his coffee serving which is funny. Fair prices. A lot of merchandise in the store, its definitely hip and they play electronic music what I like.
Really nice spot. They take good care of the social distancing and efficiency. Has outdoor seating too which was nice. Products were really good too.
I have been to Colectivo Coffee on the square several times over the past few years and have enjoyed the food, coffee, and ambiance; so I am very disappointed to say that my experience today was dreadful. I understand that we are all experiencing different practices in restaurants and eating/drinking establishments due to Covid - most of which are logical. First of all today, when paying for an item, I attempted paying with cash which was not even accepted. I understand REQUESTING that people utilize card instead of cash, but to flat out not accept cash seems to be both ridiculous and poor business sense. Following my purchase (via credit card, because luckily, I did have plastic available) and being pregnant, I needed to use the facilities, only to find the bathrooms blocked from use. I asked if I could use the restroom and was told they were not available. Not out of order, but just not available to use. I clarified that even as a paying customer, I was not allowed to use the restroom and was appalled. It is completely outrageous that at a food and dining establishment, there are no restrooms available for paying customers. Covid or not....people still need to be able to rely on facilities being available at restaurants or places selling consumables. I assume this is not a city mandate, as other businesses do have restrooms available, so I implore Colectivo to please....OPEN YOUR RESTROOMS TO CUSTOMERS.
I go here almost every morning. The baristas are super nice, drinks always turn out great, and their espresso is one of my faves in the Madison area.Support your local baristas!!!
My only visits to Colectivo-On The Square come on Saturday mornings during the Dane County Outdoor Farmers Market. My Farmers Market experience is tightly controlled by tradition and long experience. Its where I get my breakfast on Saturday mornings and coffee has always been a central part of that experience. As all of the options for coffee vendors at the Market have disappeared (inexplicable!), the brick and mortar coffee places are now the only choices. Thankfully there are several good ones, but for my purposes, Colectivo fits the bill perfectly. Their fresh brew options are delicious, always served piping hot and freshly brewed, and at a very fair price. Their staff is pleasant and friendly and their service is fast and efficient. Thanks, Colectivo Coffee, for keeping the coffee in the Farmers Market!
Covid has made it outdoor seating only but its shady and i prefer outdoor seating. The old brew coffee was yummy and the 🥑 BLT was awesome; fresh tomatoes, thick cruncy bacon 🥓, NOT iceberg lettuce, and sourdough bread.. soo good. Definitely a great lunch spot!!
We really appreciate the vegan and organic options on the menu and the very nice staff that works here. We’ve been to this location many times, and every time has been a terrific experience. Nice view too :)
Coffee, Yes, Bakery, Of course! I love this place. I wish my boss paid me in Colectivo gift cards. They sell beer so bring your growlers. Ive never gotten it since i ride my bike down. I have yet to figure that out. Their bathrooms are comfortable and their employees are pleasant.
You honestly can’t beat the ambience of this location. The cafe tables and windows afford spectacular views of the state capitol, and since the shop serves the full variety of Colectivo’s pastries and hand-crafted coffee drinks, you’re guaranteed to find something delicious. If you’re trying to beat the heat of a summer day, indulge in one of the coffee milkshakes, which are some of the most delicious caffeinated concoctions I’ve ever tasted. It gets understandably crowded during Farmer’s Market weekends, but the staff is efficient and knowledgeable. I think of this place fondly, often.
I stop for a breakfast burrito once every two weeks (or so) as a treat. Occasionally stop for lunch to get a BLT on multi-grain. Very good food. Definitely recommend. Im not as much of a fan of the baked goods. The muffins look really good in the case but often taste drier that desired.Lines to order can be long but move quickly. Can take awhile to receive food once ordered (made to order) but there are plenty of chairs and nice views to whittle away the time.
The sunrise sandwich was a little spicy for me and I couldnt eat it. I told them and asked that they let people know that it was spicy. I had hoped they would offer me some compensation but they did not. I also find their coffee expensive but good for a small portion.
Staff is so friendly, and food is great. I recommend the Avocado Toast. The egg was cooked to absolute perfection.
This collective cafe has a great location. We actually headed there after a visit to the capital building and was within walking distance.I had the cranberry pumpkin muffin and hot chocolate and both taste great! It is a cozy place to read and hang out
Perfect location and friendly staff. Stopped by for a coffee in the morning and went back again in the afternoon for some refreshments. If the weather is good bring a book and relax in the sun on the patio. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Madison.
Had a great experience everytime Ive been here. Coffee and tea is so good. My fave food is the veggie melt. Good service too. Nice meeting place.
Decent prices on sandwiches, good coffee, plus a couple beers to choose from. Colectivo is typically not my first choice for coffee, but what I really enjoy about this place is the location - ample seating both inside & out. I mostly come here for a few hours at a time to do work and I never end up feeling guilty for table-hogging. Much of the indoor seating is bar-style and faces out of large windows that look out onto the busy capital area. During the summer, the windows are rolled opened so you can get a good breeze inside as well as fantastic people-watching during work breaks.
Great service and delicious coffee! One of my favorite coffee spots in Madison. They also have wonderful pastries. Atmosphere is excellent as well. Love the ethically sourced, environmentally friendly products, too 👍🏼
Great coffee. Great small bite menu. Great atmosphere. Outdoor seating to watch the farmers market crowd.
Hard-to-beat coffee. Adequate if not-cheap baked goods. Kind of fun for people-watching. Brisk business every time Ive been. Terrific views of the Capitol and of cosmopolitan passers-by. Large outdoor area - if the weathers good.
Walked in on a cold evening and was warmed by the friendly service, homey atmosphere, and a hot matcha latte. Certainly makes for a good go-to study spot or place to meet up.
Great coffee, great coffee cake, and I had an excellent breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, and a sausage patty
Every Colectivo is warm and welcoming, but not every location has a view of the State Capitol. This one does. Long public tables to share with strangers who can become new friends. The Coffee is delicious and there are lots of food options. Highly recommended
I went here twice during my business trip to Madison. I had a wonderful experience both times. Great, cozy spot with tasty coffee and friendly personnel.
The coffee here is consistent and above standard. Its not the best cup of coffee Ive had but by far it is not the worst. However, this is my go to place! The atmosphere here is fantastic for meeting up with people, for working, or for just chilling. I also really enjoy their food items.
Love the location, a great view, great open air seating when the weather is nice and perfect for mornings at the farmers market.Their wide selection of pastries should appeal to everyone, including gluten free options. If not then they have a kitchen that can prepare even more delicious food options.Lots of coffee options from the regular drip, latte, and mocha to the more trendy such as cold brew or nitro coffee. Rotating specials and seasonal options keep things fresh. The only drawback is price. They are comparable to the other shops on the square but youre still paying a premium for the location on the square.Either way, check this place out for a relaxing day of people watching and conversation.
Great coffee. Pleasant ambience, good for chatting or working. Extra pleasant during the summer. Courteous staff. I recommend the baked goods. Otherwise food is competent, if a little expensive.Only downside is Id describe it as less indie than other Madison coffee shops, if thats your thing.
Very busy. Pour over coffee was slow, but very tasty. Good baked treats.
Best coffee around. Hands down. Skip the big chains...this coffee is the best whether you order it there or grab a bag for home.
A coffee staple on the south corner of the square. Colectivo on the square is great little cafe to pick up a coffee on the go, or stay for a cozy chat or study session. They have great coffee and espresso choices, and sandwiches for a bite to eat. Very accessible when youre out downtown, so stop here if youre looking for a pick-me-up.
Their coffee is good, the shop is great for studying and chatting, and the location is prime. The roast options are diverse, with a variety of specialty drinks they can make. In the summer, there is a cool open-air portion of the shop that gets closed up and heated in the winter. And of course, being on the square brings in a lot of business: customers here are usually businessfolks.
Unique coffee flavors and finally a decaf that is full body and tastes like regular. No more brown water pretending to be coffee.
Holy freekin moly was I pleasantly surprised. Its huge! Its totally progressive Madison, whole food type, deliciousness. 😁
Nice place with decent and affordable coffee. It is right on the Capitol square, that makes it very convenient. Service is fast, but struggles during peak office hours... Food is average and is usually takes a lot time to get it... Overall I would suggest going only for coffee and to hang out
Collectivo has such a wonderful variety of items other than just coffee, and play into the Holiday. I was down there for Fathers Day, and got a Papa Bear cookie! Very Cool!Pastries galore, if you want, and just about any type of coffee you are interested in.Always a great stop while walking around the Square for Farmers Market!
I work nearby and so I frequently visit Colectivo on the square. They get 4 stars for great coffee and quick, yummy lunch. Id give it a 5 but its too loud/messy for the kind of cafe ambiance I was hoping for. Many people come here for interviews/meetings so it can get a bit loud. Overall, still a great place for coffee!
My favorite place to study and hang out in the square. Incredibly friendly staff and great veiws of the capitol building.
Colectivo is awesome. Stop there after every Friday workout. It is a warm friendly spot.
Instantly LOVED this place when I walked it. Not your traditional hipster coffee place. Lively music and a fun South American feel. They brew their own coffee (which a HUGE improvement from the first coffee shop I visited in Madison). Great food menu and lots of delish beers-def recommending this place to friends.
This is my favorite coffee shop in all of Madison! Located right on the square with a great view of the Capitol, you will love this coffee shop. The coffee is delicious and is locally roasted. There are many places to sit and a cozy fire place to enjoy too!
I love this place. Its got a fun and funky atmosphere with lots of character. The service is friendly, and the food and drinks are good.
Loved the choices of breakfast sandwiches, pastries etc. I had a Black and Tan coffee which had the perfect balance of roastiness, acidity, and flavor. The atmosphere is very relaxed and perfect for catching up on reading or just people watching. Friendly staff. I also appreciate the options of coffee and beers...I could see starting and ending the work day there if I lived in the area.
Coffee was hot and good. Didnt have food but the kid at the counter was friendly and quick. Better than starbucks by 10 fold.
The coffee here is legit. I had their Brazil pour over special that was down right fine. Really the only problem here is turn down the music a little. Good coffee, great seating, and an awesome location. Colectivo Coffee is a consistent good cup.
Noticed that Ill order an extra large coffee to go and I am able to get a refill most days found that they change consistancy based on mood, dont know why, but ok.
Coffee was very good, very cool place. Seems like staff was a bit irritated with the rush of customers though.
Latte was like drinking a caffeine cloud. Exceptional. Not scalding either. Tasty sandwiches, delicious pastry. Amazing coffee. And in Wisconsin. What else could one ask for?
I went with a few friends on a Friday evening. We ordered our drinks and waited at a table near the front door. After half an hour, we inquired about our drinks. The woman behind the counter gesticulated towards a counter further in the cafe, where our drinks had been placed but no one had bothered to tell us. At this point, our drinks were lukewarm. At the time we went, there were only a few other customers and it was relatively quiet. I have a hard time believing they called our names.
Like the bakery. Outrageous that 1 12oz can of lacroix sparkling soda is $2.35!!!!! I dont mind that the 2 bathrooms are both accessible and for men /women. What I find repulsive is that each bathroom doesnt have its own sink. The the sink is outside of and inbetween the bathrooms. A person has a howl movement in the bathroom. Wipes their bottom clean, then has to use their filthy hand to open the door, go out into the restaurant, to wash their hands.
Food is good. Staff is excellent. Sometimes extremely busy and hard to order.
The cafe was very cool with tons of plants and open windows everywhere. They have an extensive menu with something everyone would like. I got the veggie melt sandwich and it was very good. Coffee was served in a mug which I appreciated.
Unique coffee selections but they maintain a pretty high standard. The view and atmosphere are really nice.
Cute coffee shop and a nice place to study, but packed on Saturdays and only two bathrooms that theres always a huge line for.
Had a great breakfast burrito and a tasty latte. Service was quick and friendly. Not too noisy in there which is really nice!
Breakfast sandwich and coffee outside on the Capitol Square in Madison. Sandwich and coffee were good. The ambience was great.
Great, casual coffee shop on the Capital Square. Folks are all friendly and do a good job servicing a steady stream of business. The breakfast chorizo burrito is excellent and they have a host of baked goods if that is your thing.
The coffee is excellent, but the counter service feels very corporate. There is a good variety of seating available, including exquisite indoor and outdoor patio areas. If youre looking for a good cup of coffee, youll find it here.
The coffee here is extremely bitter and sour tasting. I think they need to go back to the drawing board on how they roast their coffee. The atmosphere and food was quite good. The service was very nice. If I could I would rate them as a 2+, coffee should come first of all things.
Its the classic standby, but its getting kind of big for me and doesnt feel as local as it used to. The outdoor seating on the square is great. Not bad coffee, but there are definitely better places for pure espresso or pour overs.
Great patio, great drinks as always, though I dont know why you wouldnt have someone else helping at the registers when theres a line of 8+ people out the door.
Very trendy place if your into that kind of thing. Food and coffee were mediocre. More of a hipster place. Service wasnt that great. Made my wifes and Sons sandwiches but forgot about mine.
Great place. Good food. Good coffee. Wonderful people!
Honestly, you cant ask for much more out of a coffee shop (except perhaps a bit more seating, but thats not really their fault!). The staff is awesome and their coffee is always top notch. Tea is good, baked goods are okay (some are a little crunchier or harder than I would prefer) and their made-to-eat meals are solid. Drop in sometime!
Loooove this shop so much. First of all, beautiful view of the capital, and secondly theyre coffee is impeccable. Service is very accommodating and helpful. And theyre Sante Fe Quiche is out of this world. A Madison must-go for sure!
Excellent espresso drinks, good sandwiches. Their espresso counter can sometimes take slightly longer than some of the other shops nearby, but its totally worth the wait. Their steamed milk is always perfect, for one.Lunch service is consistently on point.
I love the atmosphere, service, and quality products. The staff are always upbeat and there to please. The back room is filled with comfy arm chairs and couches so its a great end to a date night or to just chill out.
I wish they had these in my city. Fantastic coffee and great food. Love seeing a taste of Mexico in the midwest.
Convenient location on the square, though not my favorite of Colectivos. That would be the Monroe St location. This one has a variety of seating options, from the big-windowed open-aired front, to the busier maybe dining focused middle, to the darker quiet back. I only ever get coffee here, but it looks like there may be a couple vegan options on the food menu.
Good coffee and nice outside seating area.
Gobbelin up these wheat cakes and and slurpin the bean water. 100% chill
Great service and prices, plus to me the coffee tastes better than Starbucks
Always nice people, courteous service, and good drinks. I have some disability issues and they have always been extremely understanding of me, my issues, my service animal and very helpful. I wouldnt get coffee anywhere else if I didnt have to..
