I love ReThreads!!! Please disregard the negative reviews on here, these reviewers probably came in expecting a thrifting experience similar to Goodwill or Platos Closet. This is a *vintage/designer-brand store*, which means they have a smaller selection that caters to customers that are looking for brand named, vintage, one-of-a-kind pieces that would otherwise be very difficult to find. Price reflects the quality and aesthetic of the clothing, as well as the service being provided for carefully handpicking each piece. The owner is absolutely wonderful. She is welcoming, kind to everyone, and a pleasure to talk to. She does hold a high standard for the store and it’s merchandise, which means you will leave happy with your purchases. But if you’re upset that she didn’t want to buy the clothes you brought in, please don’t write a poor review on here. She doesn’t deserve it, and it’s not fair to take it personally and see it as her being rude. Your clothes just weren’t of the quality and/or style of the store. Try selling at platos instead.
More of a second hand boutique than a thrift shop. If you’re familiar with second hand shopping and understand the value of vintage items, it’s easy to tell the owner is very thoughtful about how she curates and price the items. The items there are of high quality and condition. She is so sweet and welcoming. I definitely recommend making a stop in.
Went here to sell a bag I was gifted. The store clerk/owner used google to determine whether or not the bag I brought in was real. I was told since my bag did not have “MADE in France” and a date code, that my bag was fake. Meanwhile, bags made after 3/2021 for this particular designer do not have a date code as it was replaced with a microchip. Also, if a bag from this designer says “ made in France”, that means it was manufactured in France. If it just says “Paris” that means it was manufactured in the US. They were unaware of the microchip placed in these bags and I watched them searching for a date code that didn’t exist. All of this can be confirmed via YouTube, google etc. It was clear at that point that the employees/ owner are not well versed in luxury items- Particularly new ones. This was after I bought in the original receipt, and box. I am 1000% sure this all was based off my skin color. I also had my client advisor for this designer contact the store to relay the information about the microchip & changes to bags made after 3/2021, and was advised that the store did not answer. Horrible experience and was absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated.
Im always finding cool new items here! The owner is really nice. Would definitely check this place out if youre visiting Madison
Absolutely love this store! The merchandise is high quality and the store has a wide selection of items. The merchandise is very unique, not what you typically see at other second-hand stores. The store has high quality brands. I got a pair of jeans and a shirt, and it was worth every penny spent. Absolutely loved how kind and friendly the staff were. Highly recommend checking out this store!
I love this store! Great fashion finds! Owner answers my emails very promptly to set up buy-times. Best designer clothes in Madison!
Really impressive selection of vintage and designer items! Everything in the store is in great condition and the management is really kind.
Rethreads is by far one of my favorite locally-owned businesses in Madison. The items they sell are exceptional quality and are very reasonably priced. It is the only place I know that I can find designer bags in such good condition with an unbeatable price tag. The buying process is smooth and takes place on Saturdays or by appointment. The staff is very friendly and helpful and only take clothes that are in great condition and are better brands. This is what differentiates Rethreads from other thrift stores: their knowledge of fashion and desire to offer only the most quality clothing to their customers.
Some really good finds! Also bought coolest set of earrings.
This store does not take any clothing that is flawed in any way. Great selection of fifth avenue clothing that is much more reasonable than New York City. Take your time when shopping as there is a huge selection.
Best place to find top fashion in Madison! The buyers have a keen sense of quality in art and construction so everything in the store is a great find. If I need something stylish, I know Rethreads will have the most stylish thing! Rethreads teaches me what great fashion is. The brands it carries are all high end. Rethreads is also great for the earth because its recycled fashion, but the items are mostly like new so I go there instead of new stores for awesome dresses, super cute skirts, and unique blouses, jackets, shoes, pants, and jewelry.
If you want to take a trip down memory lane in a fashionable style this is the place. The associates are friendly and VERY patient.
The pieces are definitely hand picked and I saw some beautiful Reformation dresses around $50. They choose very high quality brands so expect the prices to match.
Overpriced with an underwhelming selection. They carry nice brands but most look like they are from 2010 and are priced at $50+. Would much rather shop at Goodwill or StyleEncore at that point
The first thing I bought from Rethreads is a green Alfred Shaheen dress for about $16. I was absolutely thrilled when I got it because I’d been staring at it from the street for an entire week and thinking it’s gotta be so expensive.Ever since then I’ve bought a variety of accessories and clothing for very different occasions. I can always find what I need that fits my specific taste for a fair price. And every-time I go in, something surprises me. May it be a set of earring with eyes that move, or a “crossbody wallet” of the perfect size.I just love the fact that Rethreads has a lot of love and care for interesting fashion items. It might take some patience to look through the inventory but it’s been well worth the time and effort for me. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I have been shopping at the downtown and west side locations for many years. I have also shopped at the Milwaukee locations and am sad that they closed :( The staff in Madison is very friendly and helpful and the merchandise is affordable and high-quality. I have been to many consignment stores around the country and always enjoy coming back to ReThreads in Madison. Please support this wonderful local store or stop by if you are visiting from out of town!
Ridiculous and obscene prices for mediocre selections.
One of my favorite spots near campus. Ive brought in some dresses and jeans, and Ive never had a problem selling my things here. Better pay out than going to platos closet or something. There are some awesome finds here too- the designer section is full of good designer brand names and everything in the store is in good condition. Ive gotten both of my favorite pairs of jeans here (Guess and Levi). I recommend this cute shop to anyone looking for one of a kind pieces.
I went to ReThreads for the first time today and was very impressed. I sold some clothes and used the money given to buy new ones. They are very open-book in how they operate the transaction. They tell you what they will sell it for and offer you 40% if you take in-store credit and 25% if you want cash. The prices they offered for everything was also very fair (you can see the item by item break down before completing the transaction). There were two items they rejected; one was a pair of shorts and the other a jacket that was notably dirty and I should have washed before hand. They made it very clear why the items were rejected and let me know theyd be buying shorts in a few months come spring.Overall, the customer service I received was top notch, and this coming from someone who works in the industry. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and direct. The items I bought were both in good condition and fair priced.I recommend this place for buying and selling. Im sorry that other people had negative experiences but none of what they mentioned was part of mine. In fact, I read those reviews before hesitantly going for a first time and was pleased in their absence.
I love shopping at Rethreads because all the clothes are always stain free and in GREAT condition!! I gave up shopping at other resale stores because the buyers clearly dont have as high of standards before they put things out. Also, they have the most unique selection of clothing and Id recommend stopping in if youre in the Madison area!
Great selection of clothing - they even have gorgeous high end pieces at amazing price points. The owner clearly cares about quality and that is why they dont just take any pieces. This store is a State Street gem!
The staff there is are super cheap and arguable. I showed them brand new shoes in the box made in Italy. The original value $190 after taxes. They offer me $15 to buy from me. Ripoff artists. Never come back again.
Occasionally youll come across a great vintage find, but typically the clothes there are a bit meh and a bit overpriced. Its definitely been a decline since they first opened. Its also a toss up on the service side of things - sometimes you get someone friendly, but theres an equal chance that youll get someone who can barely give you time of day. Selling clothes there is also a long, drawn-out process and typically doesnt yield much.
Interesting store but when i came in with clothing, it took the employees awhile to acknowledge me. they barely looked at the clothes i brought in before saying no thanks.... rejecting the clothes is fine; being rude about it is not.
Just imagine that someone went to all of the thrift stores in the area and picked out the best clothes and then marked them up considerably. Its generally nicer stuff in better condition, but also a bit pricey for used clothes. If you enjoy digging through the racks at Goodwill, do that first. Otherwise, come straight here and youll surely find something you like.Staff has been friendly and laid-back every time Ive shopped here, so no complaints there. I havent tried trading anything in, so I cant speak on behalf of that. I think the only qualm I have is that the mens section is relatively small. If youre planning on blowing $60 dollars at Urban Outfitters on a shirt that looks vintage, just come here instead. You wont be disappointed.
Great staff! The fact that you can never sell your clothes or that you dont accept brands like Express, Gap or Banana Republic along with other makes for the low score.
The clothes and selection are amazing but its very overpriced. I was the only person in the shop and the employee didnt even acknowledge me. Id be more likely to purchase something had they at least said hi.
This ReThreads is TERRIBLE. Theyre always at capacity for the day when I go... at noon, when they open at 10am. Hmm and they only allow you to come pick up your stuff from 5-7pm, again, when I have gone at noon. That is ridiculous. I have lugged huge bags to this store three times now and have been turned away. I will never again go to this ReThreads. Terrible Management. Go to Platos Closet, they always accept clothes and give you more money for your clothes as well.
With its very well curated stock and very agreeable prices I would highly recommend this shop! It has many many cute piecesand even some designer pieces (at a higher price) but none of the outright duds you sometimes see at second-hand stores.
We dropped off a coat there so they could assess the value of it and look into whether they wanted to buy it from us. We came back the next day to either pick up the coat or cash and they wouldnt give us our coat back! They said that because we didnt pick it up on the same day, they were keeping it and they gave us a ridiculously small amount of store credit (worthless) in exchange. What a joke. Of course the sales clerk didnt bother to tell us about this same-day pickup policy.
Maybe youll find something cute, but trade in somewhere else
A buyer is not present during all their hours of operation. After arriving, apparently just short of the buyers shift, the saleswoman gave a plethora of useless options for my large bag of clothing: such as take your clothes down the street to our location on the other side of town. They refused to take it as a donation because they dont have space.
Small good prices interesting clothes exactly what a second hand page should be
I’ve gone to both locations and each time the same woman was very rude to me. She insulted my clothes, calling them “nothing special.” I also work in retail and understand how stressful it can be, but I would never talk to anyone (let alone a customer) the way she talked to me.
A fun store to walk around and friendly staff
Pretty much dont waste your time trying to sell anything there unless its brand new with tags and very specific brands. Very inconsistent with what they will and wont take and not very friendly.
Interesting selection, but too pricey.
Waaaaaay overpriced for someones used stuff?? $110 for a Michael Kors purse??? I guess
Always find something for cheap
In my experience, most clothes wont get accepted for sales there.
They take very little
