Unverified, but I heard these guys buy stolen catalytic converters. I just had my second cat stolen last night, after paying $1000 to replace the first one that was stolen 3 weeks ago. Do society a favor and dont do business with these crooks.

I bought a car from Casey a few months ago. The only reason I bought this car was because Casey and Corey told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with this car except for the tire sensor.. Corey said the engine was completely rebuilt.. everything looked good new tires etc.The next day after purchasing the vehicle I started to hear a clicking noise. Brought it in. They said it was the control arm and took care of it ... Couple days later the engine light came on.. the O2 sensor needed to be changed so I had it taken care of. About two weeks after that the car started over heating omw home from work . Called American auto as soon as I got home because there was alot of oil in tje resvoir tank. The head gasket was blown. George said to bring it in and they would take care of it. The next day I went in to pick up a loaner car as George told me to. Casey didnt seemed to please. Gave me a car and I was omw. Couple weeks later they gave us a call told us our car was ready. My husband asked for some kind of receipt or something saying the work was done, for our records...Casey raised his voice at my husband Scott and they started to have words. Scott kept asking to speak with George the owner and Casey kept telling him no.. Scott. Just wanted to speak with George and Casey wasnt having it. They both walked outside and continued to scare at each other, a police officer down the road heard them yelling and had to pull in to the shop to calm things down.. Scott was so upset that he ended up walking home. I stayed to speak with Casey about the car. He told me to bring it in for a flush at the end of the week. When I came back Friday Casey looked at the car said he thinks the engine is cracked and that they are going to replace it. I was very happy to hear that they were going to fixed the vehicle. Casey gave me a loaner and that was that.About a month later they called us to pick up the Cobalt ... The engine was replaced and everything seemed to be good. I have not spoken with them since they replaced the engine.. but about a week later after picking up our car the engine light came on. Two weeks later we notice the tires were bald one having no tread at all!! That same day the tire blew out. I put on the spare. The very next day I had another blow out had to call a close friend named paul who was there with me when I bought the car.. two days later the third tire blew out I have pictures of all three tires and will try to post them after the im finished writing the review. These tires were shredded. And it wasnt just a coincidence, because the tires lookes brand new when I purchased the vehicle. I took it in to Firestone to get an alignment and to check on a noise the car was making they gavee me a list of things wrong with the vehicle.. the back springs are broken, the tire bearing was bad, the shocks, and the second control arm. They said if I hadnt brought the car in that one of the tires was about to fall off!!!! I thought I had found a new mechanic when I first bought this Cobalt from AA...Casey and Corey both seed liked really nice, honest guys but after everything Ive been thru with this car I feel like I got ripped off and will never go back to this place.I will be adding more pics of the tires after the blow out... as they are on Scotts phone.

I called them up to see if they had used tires for my 94 Camry on 3-2-20. They said yes, and to come in before they closed at 6pm. I got there at 5pm and they looked to be very busy at the time. An employee directed me where to park and proceeded to remove my tires. I received 2 very good tires mounted/balanced for a reasonable price and was on my way before 5:30 pm. The best place in Madison for used tires. I stopped in on a Sat. morning looking for 2 used tires for my van. Man working quickly checked, found two, showed me their condition and installed them in no time at a terrific price. Quick, friendly efficient! He let me wait in the office. This place is my kind of place. Real mom and pop atmosphere. Nothing fancy. I am sick of big box tire stores closing down places like this. Ill be spreading the good word. Scheduled appointment for ten and no one showed. Called to reschedule for 11:30 and still no one showed. Tried to call back with no answer. Woman answered calls but then hung up immediately. Highly unprofessional.

Walked in for an oil change and they chose to schedule one later in the day in order to make sure they had the time. Took care of the oil change, topped off my fluids and told me what I needed to get my car ready for an out of state trip Im planning. Also took care of a couple quick nips and tucks while the car was in the air. Very friendly, and would rather help the customer than make a quick buck. Definitely my go to mechanic from now on. From tires & rims to hard to find used parts as well as new repairs this shop has the capability to take care of all your auto needs. People dont generally schedule their break downs, if it is a time consuming job they will drop you off @ wk *within a reasonable distance* or hook you up with a loaner if there is one available @ the time. This is a smaller shop so the prices are reasonable, and the employees are friendly. If you are looking for a good used vehicle @ a decent price. Their website usually has several available. They also have towing available although I have not had to use that service, just saying.

Wow, what else can I say about these guys? After allowing me to have the car I wanted to buy be inspected by a third party, they agreed to fix the few issues that needed attending to at no cost to me. In addition to that, they also towed my old vehicle away at no extra charge, and gave me a ride to the lot! They went out of their way to ensure that I left their lot with a solid, dependable vehicle. I would recommend these guys to anyone who needs a solid, used car at a fair price.

Poor customer service. Bait n switch pricing. Promised me double the money the day before I actually took my car in. Got the feeling this is what they do all the time. Couldn’t get a hold of the guy that quoted the price and then gave a token call to the boss. Companies like this give salvage yards a bad name. Very disappointed and Would not recommend.

They advertise that they sell cars. We went to look at a car during normally advertised business hours. No one was there, no one answered the phone. I had been emailing them to let them know we were coming, and someone even responded. We waited 20 minutes before leaving, no one showed up. Very disappointing for car sales! Stay away!

Went here in October to check out a tire that kept losing air. They were very professional about it and got me a FANTASTIC deal on two tires, and didnt even charge me for the initial diagnostic/fixing of my old tire. They have a great tire connection guy (I forget his name), are professional and very affordable. Highly recommended!

Ok for oil changes but go somewhere else for major repairs. Do not risk them ruining your car! Its not worth the cheaper labor rate!Went there for brakes for my friends car. She lives paycheck to paycheck and was looking for somewhere cheap. The repair ended up being over $800, way over their estimate. Instead they said she could trade it in as is on a car in their lot they were trying to sell. After the trade in, the new one was $3,000. I helped her buy it because it looked good and seemed to run well for an older car. A couple of days later she noticed a strange noise and wobble in the car whenever she used the brakes. We took it back for them to look at and it turned out that one of their techs didnt replace the control arms as they had thought. They started working on it and it reminded me of me trying to fix a car after watching a youtube video. Ive never seen such craziness.After waiting almost two hours they told us they needed to keep it overnight. Once she got it back it seemed better, but then the head gasket blew a couple weeks later. At first they said we bought the car as-is from a private party because they arent a car dealer and that it wasnt their responsibility. My friend told them that wasnt acceptable and that they sold her a lemon and that they mustve known about the condition of the engine. They grudgingly agreed to flush it and try a quick fix. Somehow in the process of them trying the quick fix, the engine block ended up cracking and the engine was ruined. After some arguing, they agreed to swap the engine with a used one in good shape from a totaled car.They took it and kept it for over a month trying to replace the engine. In the meantime they gave my friend a series of loaners each with their own problems sometimes breaking down on her. Stressful doesnt even begin to explain..... She eventually got her car back but the air conditioning doesnt work since the engine swap and just yesterday one of the front tires blew out.We took a closer look at the tires, and the front two were completely bald and the rear tires had almost no tread left. These were not the tires on the car when we bought it. One of the selling points was that they said they had just put new tires on it. We cant prove anything but the only possibility I can think of is that someone at the shop swapped the new tires it had when we bought it from them with the oldest most dangerous tires Ive seen while it was there getting the engine replaced. Maybe they were mad about the engine they had to swap so they took the tires in exchange. Who knows. Shes only had the car 4 months and it literally had new tires when we bought it. Now the front two have the metal mesh starting to come out on the edges where the tread was.Throughout this process my friend found out that they have a side business buying junk cars at auction and fixing them with used parts from junkyards, then they sell them from their lot. They do the least possible to clean them up so they seem in good shape. I assume they just clear the service engine codes too, because the service engine light came on less than a week after it came back from them both times. I feel like we got scammed and are left with a piece of junk but there really dont seem to be many options besides trying to take them to court and who can afford that? Stay far far away!They might seem nice and cheap and I think they do actually try to do their best, but they just arent that good. I feel like they get themselves into trouble because they just arent experienced enough to do major repairs and they have too much drama going on behind the scenes.

Dont junk your cars here. They said they pay cash and received a check. Lady on the phone was rude as hell. Was offered $150 for my car. Called specialized auto and they offered $200 off the bat. Told American auto their offer and about the $25 beat the competitor price they offer on the ad. They didnt want to give it to me because theyd be losing money which is bullshit. Said then Ill let the other guys have it and will be leaving a bad review. After those words were said their mind was changed immediately and they came and picked it up for $225. Im satisfied but the customer service and how they go about their business is terrible. I wouldve contacted BBB if they didnt give me what they promised and GUARANTEE. But Im still leaving a bad review because I am unsatisfied with their customer service and well just about everything. BEWARE OF AMERICAN AUTO LLC they will rip you off if they have the chance.

Ive had nothing but trouble with them today. I was told between 1 and 2 and Im still waiting around for someone. I completely understand lots of cars need to be picked up but a call would have been nice. And they lost my paperwork after I called to check up on the arrival of a tow truck. Yet another good experience here. Got a muffler done, my hood latch fixed, power steering pump done, and some squeaky belts tightened up. Was ready to fork out some serious cha-chang but was shocked with how low my bill was. I take my cars no where else for years now

This location is under new management now. They really cleaned this building and grounds up, it looks 100% better then the old business. I walked in and was greeted by the owner who had a big smile and was ready to answer any questions that I had about the issues I had with my car. When i came back later that day to pick the car up the mechanic had informed me of some other issues that may become a problem down the road. He did this because they went the extra mile to enhance my wonderful experience. I have recommended this shop to everyone I know that needs repairs done or good quality used tires.

Who ever answered the phone was very rude. He has no sense of customer service. They put a bad tire on my truck called to find out if there was a warranty. I explained the situation. No warranty but wouldnt give me the price of repair. Dude need learn how to treat customers!!

Bought new tires at a great price instead of used tires about 2 years ago, and then great price for swapping out different tires on spare rims and talking with employees about cars and motorcycles and then dealing with office lady (sorry forgot her name) really enjoyed working with them.

The owner is rude and unprofessional . He told me bring ur car 12:30p for diagnosis we will charged u $50.when I came to the shop he changed his mind said $90 I told him you guys told me$ 50 after that he said I don’t have time to fix ur car. if want to waste ur time go over there to those rude people.

No real mechanic works here they try to charge professional rates. This place rips people off. They dont know what they are doing and charge you for finding the problem and extra hours worth of work because the guy fixing cars doesnt know what he is doing. Didnt even fix my car and still expected to get paid. Total scam and stealing money from people.

The owner is very unprofessional, dishonest and rude. The workers were pretty pleasant. George, the owner is not approachable. He had a problem with my husband questioning a job they did on my vehicle and when he didnt want to deal with my husband, I decided to deal with it. He then was extremely short, while raising his voice at me while his child and other people were sitting in the waiting room. And said he didnt want to deal with me. I told him not to bad mouth my husband to me and to take it up with him and he stated he had my husbands number blocked. Which is fine, but either way to not allow me to speak and to treat me as though we didnt pay for a job that wasnt done correctly is not right.

The guy owner is very unprofessional and horribly mannered in person and over the phone! I dont know if the work is good because I didnt want this place working on my car because of being spoken to so rudely and unprofessional, I just didnt even trust my car being worked on by this place.

Paid to have a cooling fans fixes and was never fixed properly. They basically discriminated me and assumed that I didnt have the money to afford repairs so they fixed my car the cheapest way possible. Sad because I really though that they had my best interest at heart.

Was just there for quick thing that we couldnt manage on our own at home. Chris got us taken care of pronto and was super friendly and accommodating. Also hooked us up with a recommendation on a replacement part and called ahead to let shop know to expect us.

Was told my car would be done by the end of the day 2 days in a row. When I arrived at the time I was told to be there they said they got the wrong part. There seems to be no sense of urgency at all within this company. I called the other location and was told my quote would be done in a few minutes l over the 3 times I called in a 2 hour time span.Will definitely not be retuning.

Called a day ahead of needing a tire change, buying a full set installation, was told to come in anytime 9am-6pm. Stopped in at 10am next day with no techician available until noon. Receptionist initially wouldn’t schedule a time beyond oral. Came back at noon to learn the full set was sold, then they tried to sell me a set larger than was recommended for my vehicle. After this I still opted for two in stock. My tires where put on outside which is fine but feels like the balance job was poorly executed. (Might be because the technician was also busy talking to a girl smoking a cigarette while changing and balancing the tires.) Pretty bad experience. If you need quality auto service, this isn’t the place. I would recommend to go somewhere else.

Two separate occasions I called and spoke with Sarah who was nice enough on the phone at the first call one occasion was to have them pick up a minivan that I no longer wanted and she set up a date and time to pick up my van. They did not show up for that appointment which my wife waited around for and I went through the hassle of rescheduling the pick up two separate times and neither time was there any follow-through they did not show up. I ended up calling a different company which came on time for a same-day appointment. Fast forward to a week ago I called them to inquire about a set of rims with tires on them for my car and I was told that they would be picking up a car that had exactly what I needed that same day and to call back around noon the following day. I called back and they had not picked up the car which is fine and I was told that they would take my number down and give me a call back because they were still scheduled to go pick up that car I waited another day and call them again when another person took down my phone number and I never got a call back it has now been a week and a half and nobody has responded I even emailed them because I seen a post on Craigslist with them selling tires and rims so I emailed them inquiring about the same exact products and again never got a response. So for short I would only call this place again if I was in extreme need of a run around and lack of follow-through which in today's society means they will never get my business.

I had not gone to this place before but recently a friend did and recommended it. I went there to see if they could help with my car stereo that I tried and failed to do myself. The owner took a look, fixed my incorrect wiring harness setup, and had it installed and working in about 10 minutes. And then refused to accept payment for the fast service. I definitely will return here for any auto work I need done. And my friend is also very happy with the service they performed on his car.Update: Brought my Jeep in for broken ignition - they had it done fast and fairly priced. Definitely coming back here in the future.

I called to ask for a quote to have American tow and junk my car. Two different people at American told me $350-$375. I made an appointment for 9:30 a.m. the next day. At 9:40, no one had arrived. I called and was told that they were on the way. They finally arrived at 10:45. They agreed that the car was exactly as I described but offered $100 less than the quote on the phone after calling the boss to check on the price. Prepare for missed appointments and bait & switch on a price.

I came in today and horn doesnt work and car remote. All the fix and repair is free, since I bought the car about a week ago. Person I talked to his name is Al.

They wont receive our dime of my hard earned money ever again.They basically had a guy workinghere named Chris who was messing up people vehicles. They was supposed to fix my wifes cooling fans but somehow by passed the cooling fan relay and it caused her car to over heat. They then put in a toggle switch and the whole switch burned off in a little over a week. They basically admitted to fixing her car the cheapest way possible because they assumed that she didnt have the proper money to fix the car. Then wanted her to put money into the car. They wont be recieving any penny from us again.

Note: If you are considering selling a scrap car to them, try Schmidts Auto. They gave me a better quote and were friendlier.Tried to sell scrap car - website states 300 Dollar Minimum! in bold letters.Unfortunately their offer came back for $100. When I mentioned their promise to beat ANY competitors Quote by AT LEAST $25, the gentleman on the line agreed to add $25 to my previous best offer. If I brought him the car.I pointed to the website says American Auto ALWAYS tows away your clunker FREE OF CHARGE!, at which point I realized this conversation was not productive.I did not purchase any service or product from them. This entire experience took place via phone call, resulting from me finding their webpage on Google.

American Auto has always been great too deal with!! Anytime I need some work done they always beat the competition on price and quality of work. The staff is also curtious and friendly.

I’m very disappointed in my experience here. I’d been emailing back and forth about a transmission for my car. I was told that this transmission was available and set up a time to come one week beforehand. When I showed up today, the staff that was working (Matt, I think) wasnt expecting us and they had the owner come. She claimed she never heard of anyone coming and said the transmission was on the top shelf and I was asked to come back an hour later. When I showed up for the second time, Matt had to apologize because the transmission was not there and had probably been sold, and he was left to tell us the news.

Ive been going there for a few years now. Dont be shined off by other bad reviews, people are junking JUNK cars and getting paid just that and dont seem to like it. I dont have any experience with American auto when it comes to scrapping cars though, just service needs. But, the people there are usually pretty friendly, and always work with me to get what I need. Prices cant be beat on service or used tires. And they usually have what I need in stock. I will continue service with them and recommend to friends and family who need used tires and cheap service done.

Went for an oil change and a tire leak fix. cost me 36$, which is pretty cheap. The mechanics look kind of rough and the place is run down but it was fast, cheap and easy which is all I wanted.

Dont do it. Please, just dont. I waited a week to write this post. I dont like cutting people down. In the end, it was a moral decision. People deserve a fair warning. This place is terrible.

Got some nice tires but i ended up with a broken cataylac converter and now ive got to spend more money than what i wanted to. Service was friendly but really poor job at handeling your car.

Like others here, the minimum on the website is definitely not true. I was quoted $150 for a 2000 Taurus that was non-running. Whatever, needed it out of my parking lot.Tow truck shows up the next day at the scheduled time and the driver offers me $100. When I pushed back, he just sort of shrugged at me and didnt budge on the $100 price. Ultimately, I was on a tight timeframe so I took the $100.The staff are easy to work with and they are quick but between the low initial quote and then the subsequent lowball, I will never do business with them again.There are MUCH better options in Madison. It must be true because there couldnt be a worse one.

They always tell you they can give you more for your car then when they get there they always offer less

If you want to be majorly ripped off, definitely go here. They will not give you anywhere near what your car is worth, and once youve had it towed there, it is too late to do anything else.

Friendly fast and not scammers

Purchased a part over the phone. Was told they would be open Saturday till 4pm. Drove an hour and fifteen minutes to there shop/ store, arrived at 1:38 pm. They were CLOSED! . While standing in drivway I spoke to another customer that drove there, they were told they would be open till 2pm on Saturday. I called Tuesday ( holiday monday ) and was told they would ship it to me. I recieved a call on Wednesday and was told they it was going to cost to much to ship !!! Strongly suggest you find a business that stands behind their word .

American Automotive has always been a pleasure to work with, and the owners are knowledgeable people. They are constantly aware of the market for used cars, scrap, and local competitors rates. I have gone to them for some time now to get work done to my vehicles, and I will continue to go to them every year for a used winter vehicle as they work with me on pricing and try to get me the best deal in the area.I dont quite understand others accusations regarding not being payed enough for their scrap or used vehicles. To each their own, however; Its unfortunate some of their customers are not as aware of scrap or used vehicle prices as others, as well as the labor and time spent on the process of hauling, storing, and/or fixing these vehicles. They may be purchasing a car from you, but they still need to run a business and end up with some sort of profit.I have, and would reccomend American Automotive to friends and family members. Thank you guys for your excellent services you provide!
