Called ahead to ask if they carried Black Soap and a kind woman answered and said that they do. Walked in the beautiful store and was greeted by a man and also a woman at the register. She checked us out and was very kind and gave a motherly vibe to us. I wish I could buy everything in the store to support her local shop. Would definitely come in again!

My wife took a picture of some tea to send to a friend and the owner screamed at her. I guess without much competition, she can be as crazy as she wants to be.

Too RUDE! You have to be patient with customers. The owner is very rude. When you ask her a question, she answers like you are forcing her. She’s so pricey and she doesn’t even offer good customer service. There are better African stores with better prices and great customer service.

I reside in Lake Geneva and have driven over a half-dozen times to Madison alone...well because I love this shop! The owner is a beautiful African Lady, whos super welcoming and helpful, as she always has wonderful and insightful suggestions to offer. Now, the store has a plethora of cultural goodies from hair care products, clothing, body oils, incenses, foods and much more; so you cant go wrong. Most importantly, my family and I have always felt welcomed and appreciated from the very moment that weve entered until our exiting. This is our go-to place away from home. ❤

I absolutely LOVE this store. I buy ALL my body oils, hair oils, and incense oils here (all top quality, and a skin shea butter cream unmatchable anywhere handmade by the owners family). Also the BEST PRAYER RUGS straight from Turkey and beautiful cloths from across Ghana. Books from Egypt and abroad. A WONDERFUL place to shop for your personal self care needs! And the people there are beautiful. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The visit to the African and American store was delightful. Although the place smelled good, it was just a bunch of different types of smell that hit me. Secondly, the store was well organized. Through the entrance straight ahead there are hair and skin products to the left there are consumables. In addition, in the back of the store lies different clothing like dashiki’s and kente kufi hats. The owner was pretty nice but we couldnt converse much at the time. Finally, I learned that her and her husband make all the clothing there.

They are a good backup resource for African food items.

A customer I will be!!!!....I have an event that I needed to shop for and wanted a beautiful African outfit. I google searched places in Madison to find this gem of a store!!! Went in on a Saturday afternoon and it was an awesome experience...I swear I almost felt like we all were family the way we kicked it and enjoyed each other. I was guided by Momma (Im assuming the owner or one of them anyway, I didnt ask) to the clothing. She looked at my body type and showed me a few gorgeous ideas of pieces that would look nice on me. She was very nice and helpful as I was so undecided between 2 different pieces. I loved both but eventually made my mind up. I did not feel rushed to do so and she was really patient with me. The store also has some absolutely beautiful jewelry that I was eyeing up! :) I read a few of the other reviews and I dont understand why there are some that say this woman was rude and so on....I found the exact opposite yesterday!!! I will continue to support this business and stop in and say hello to the ladies Momma and her beautiful Daughter when Im in that area. So sweet and VERY VERY excited to wear my outfit to my event. I will feel like Royalty no doubt!!!Thank you ladies, I will take pics and send some your way and stop in sometime to say hello. :)

Very nice and clean store. Great selection of Nigerian food. This store has goat me with skin on or skin off. A little pricey but hey theres nothing like the taste of home

Im not quite sure where these positive reviews are coming from, as I had a terrible experience here. I was initially very excited to shop at this place based on the reviews, however the woman who owns this shop was very rude. When I asked her if she had ankara style tops she said No we dont have anything like that here. She kept trying to direct me to the made in China fake dashikis, which I told her I had no interest in. I then asked her if she had skirts, she pointed them out to me in a very lackluster uninterested maner. As a last effort to support an African business, I asked her Where is your jewelry? She replied Didnt you see them already on your way in? Theyre on the wall. I promptly decided that she was definitely not getting a single coin from me. I dont know where she learned salesmanship and customer service, but I have never had that type of experience in a store before. Its sad, as I stated, because I was excited to have stumbled upon the place. But I wouldnt go there if it was the last store on earth.

This place will rip you off. Dont bother going here. Ive had a bad experience shopping this place. The way the owners treated me was downright humiliating. I hope this establishment tanks. They will no longer get their business from me. I beg of you who are reading this review to NOT shop here.
