Roloseems to be the official canine greeter at Idyology, an awesome dog friendly restuarant in Idyllwild. The food is fresh, each order is individually made, very very tasty and presented beautifully. The split pea basil soup is unique and beyond comparison, it is an original dish created by the owner Carmella. The brussel sprouts were seasoned most excellently, and had crispy leaves to die for. The dish of the gods lives up to the name, and the desserts are excellent, especially the lemon marange oven kissed pie. Outdoor seating under the trees, by the stream. The outside area is very socially accommodating, dog friendly, and romantic. Easy parking, excellent food, great music, reasonable prices, and the friendly atmosphere makes this place one that you wont be sorry to have experienced. Friendly and welcoming owners, loved their resident dog greeter. Tasty food too! For being just the two handling all areas, the service and speed was faster than places staffed by many. They helped accommodate my needs and gave dessert to celebrate with us
My wife and I were celebrating our 3 year anniversary, and had got into town late. We look and looked for anything that was open and we decided to go here because mostly everything else was closed. We are so glad we came here, our waiter David was very friendly and attentive to our needs. My wife had ordered the greek burger, and I got the cheeseburger. Both of our burgers were very delicious especially the greek burger with the tzatziki sauce. Everything was fresh and the fries we were told are cut fresh from the potato and straight to the fryer, which were amazing! We had the pleasure of meeting the owner/ chef Carmel, as we talked to her more and more you could tell she was a genuine and caring person that loved to cook for her customers. She is such an amazing person with an awesome spirit about her. When she heard we were celebrating our anniversary, she had brought us champagne and even a slice of toasted lemon meringue pie with a lit candle and sang a happy anniversary song to us. We were totally blown away that she had went the extra mile to make our evening very special and memorable. we will definitely be coming back everytime we come to idyllwild, and look forward to seeing Carmel and we wish her the best of luck with her restaurant.
Great food and service! We came in and sat on the patio since the temp was perfect out. The interior needs an update but it feels rustic and mountainy. During wetter season the stream runs through which. We ordered the pasts of the gods and the duck breast.. both were not over seasoned and perfectly cooked.. our server was knowledgeable and friendly.. o yea and the malbec from Argentina was epic too. Dont mind the older building and decor.. do mind how great the grub is!

The food was absolutely amazing the service was a bit slow but its obviously home made so it was worth the wait they had this adorable little dog named Rolo and Im definitely going back just to see him again. All and all a great place.

Their fried brussel sprouts appetizer and duck breast main course were a fantastic way to spend my birthday dinner with my wife. The toasted lemon meringue pie was the perfect finish. The owners dog Rolo is absolutely adorable, too!
The experience was absolutely amazing! They have a new chef that wowed us with his octopus dish. It was fun and delicious. The champagne custard for dessert was fantastic. Our waiter, David, was so nice and attentive. He even got a blanket for my wife since we were dining outside at night. Will definitely come again!
What a wonderful place, the atmosphere superb- great music, beautiful art, a giant fireplace and big windows for a view of the gorgeous scenery. Also the waiter David was great and we met the owner Carmel who was very nice and accommodating.To top it all off the food was delicious, we had Hummus and Naan bread with a delicious cucumber salad and Greek olives wow so good. Recently visited, Idyology Restaurant.I hadnt been since new ownership changeover.It was a wonderful surprise from the old owners.I actually had a very nice conversation with the new owner found out all new updates to the menu and the restaurant, all were good!!The food was made from fresh ingredients, not frozen out of a box.Our meals were DELICIOUS and our beverages were so big I didnt have to keep looking for our waitress for a refill.Prices arent cheap but for Idyllwild they were reasonable and especially for the quality of the food.We will definitely be back!!If you are also into live music they have that covered too, I check who and when on the music.I highly recommend, Idyology Restaurant!!!
Carmel is an amazing chef and the food was simply exquisite 👌 The scenic view I would come for every time and the outdoor seating area is spacious and a little creek in the back of it to see the beautiful landscape.
I love the homey vibe here. The staff is so friendly. Really made me feel at home as if I was a regular customer. We are visiting from out of town, but were thinking of coming back tomorrow before we leave. Loved the atmosphere of this place.
Were kinda disappointed, my husband and I went on a dinner date yesterday (5/2/21) first time in 3yrs. It was highly recommended by friends, owner was nice, very eccentric. Knew right off it was a special day for us. The gentleman serving us was rushing to do things and the owner just kept yelling at him to hurry. We ordered the cheesy herb fries as a starter-- definitely needed to be cooked longer. My husband ordered the fish and chips, it was nice being salmon instead of tilapia or catfish but for $23 I expected a bigger portion. I, myself ordered the Greek burger, it wasnt bad but there was no seasoning in the meat. We learned towards the end of our meal we should have sat outside, because the owner started getting upset that the servers were still there. She came out of the kitchen telling them she is going to deduct an hour pay from them for taking too long to leave. He was just trying to show the other server how to close out a register. It was very unprofessional to act like that in front of customers. She seemed overwhelmed with running everything. She needs to train out so she has less stress on her plate. Not sure if we will go back.

Our party of 7 had a wonderful meal at Idyology! We loved the brussel sprouts, duck, salmon fish and chips, grilled salmon, chicken tikka masala and gyros! Our service was very good. The staff and owner were friendly and attentive. We would definitely go back when visiting Idyllwild!
This is an overpriced mess. We waited for over an hour for our food. The waiter was friendly and generous but the food was overpriced, burned and not good. The menu for the pasta clearly states angel hair but came out as penne noodles. The gyro meat was burnt. None of us could finish our meal. Its an odd atmosphere and you can sense tension with staff. I would not recommend this place, take your money elsewhere. There is another low review on here with a low rating, its real and dont let the owner comments fool you lol. You have been warned. The owner is a bit obnoxious and we first though she was a customer.

This place is beautiful, the food is wonderful and we love the owner, Carmel! We feel like we are having a gourmet meal in the forest. So amazing. I cannot wait until COVID restrictions are lifted so we can go here again. When you are in Idyllwild, be sure to treat yourself and visit Idyology!
New owner, Carmel, was friendly and engaging. Our server Win (Winston?) was top notch! Fantastic experience! My sweetie and I went to Idyllwild for the weekend. We were excited to eat after our 3 hour hike. The pan seared steak sandwich was DELICIOUS! He hasn’t had a steak sandwich that good since a visit to NYC 13 years ago. Major compliments to the chef! It’s rare to be made to feel so special when visiting a restaurant these days. We ate here twice in 2 days while staying in Idyllwild and will be back the next time we up in the mountains.

Place was trash. Owner is disrespectful towards employees. My food was raw and unseasoned. She seems to be running everything but clearly cant. Dont go here. Save your money 💰

The food here was absolutely incredible, we ordered creamy parsnip soup, lamb skewers with tzatziki, and the New York steak with lobster. The creamy soup was delicious, I wish I could eat it every day, its a beautiful flavor. Lamb skewers were perfectly cooked and tender, with amazing flavor, the flatbread that came with it is probably the best Ive ever had. Then the steak, I ordered it medium rare and came out perfectly. It has a wonderful char and flavors, and the lobster was just delicously buttery and tender. Definitley would reccomend checking this place out!

This review is for a complete and utter flouting of COVID-19 restrictions and the unbelievable unprofessionalism of the host/owner. Its important to note that, as of this review date, Riverside County prohibits indoor dining and permits only outdoor dining. My partner and I attempted to go to Idyology for a drink and an appetizer on Saturday night. I called ahead to ask if there was outdoor dining available and whether I needed a reservation. The answer was Yes, there is outdoor dining but it is wet and cold. (It had been snowing for the better part of the last 24 hours.) I asked if there were heaters and a covered patio, and the person on the phone assured me that there were heaters and umbrellas for the patio. I was satisfied with that answer, so my partner and I walked the 1/2 mile to the restaurant. When we arrived we were greeted by a hostess, who appears to be the owner/manager of Idyology as her picture is posted all over the restaurants website, who was visibly intoxicated. We were unsettled to see that there were about 5 to 6 parties of 2-4 people each eating INSIDE the restaurant, despite Riverside County restrictions. We requested to be seated outside. Once outside we were seated at a wet table with minimal effort spared to dry it off. We were not offered a heat lamp and we were placed under an umbrella that was dripping cold water on us. The intoxicated woman asked why we wanted to sit outside (as if there is not a pandemic happening). Eventually a plate of bread and two waters were placed in front of us. After witnessing the intoxicated staff member take her mask off multiple times inside the restaurant, I peeked into the kitchen and saw the chef wearing his mask below his nose and one staff member in the kitchen without a mask at all. At this point, I felt that the restaurant was being very unsafe, so we politely left a tip for the really nice and hard-working busser (Chance) and got the heck out of there. This kind of behavior is unprofessional, unacceptable, and unsafe.
I wish I could give TEN stars!!! Kelli and the whole team at IDYology are a huge part in what made my wedding weekend better than perfect!!! Not only did they let us have a ROCKIN after party there, with my brothers-in-law DJ-ing and a dance party and everything, but what they did for us the next day, Sunday morning, was just incredible...:We booked IDYology from 11 AM - 1 PM for a post-wedding Sunday brunch. Kelli and her team cooked up a storm of delicious quiches (I especially loved the sausage one, was there biscuit gravy in there?!), had a whole spread of pastries and bagels and cakes, coffee, juice, water, tea. They had the bar open so people could order mimosas (which were delicious) etc.The enormous and absolutely stunning two-level back patio were perfect for our over 100 guests (probably closer to 140 that day) and everyone had a wonderful time.Kelli was so sweet, accommodating and easy to work with from the get-go.If you ever have a large event in town, look no further. Truly perfect!!!!

Just love the vibe of this place! Super Western and unique. Great chill music! And fantastic food! You can sit inside by the bar and this awesome fireplace or outside on the deck overlooking the lower deck and strawberry Creek and woods. Its beautiful and incredible fresh good for you food with many vegetarian and vegan options
It was pretty good food and atmosphere. I am not really into country music, but it wasnt too country western for me at least. The atmosphere was nice. We ordered the cheese flat bread pizza and my wife had a Ginger beer to drink. The ginger beer was stronger than she expected. It was pretty strong. I had am orange wheat ale. Overall it was pretty good and I would return again. My wife and I like the restaurants that have some character and good food and this place had both.

Atmosphere was great and it was a fun place to hang out. Live music and outdoor balcony were awesome. Unfortunately, the food was a bit lacking and many of our orders werent correct. Might be better when less busy.

Under new ownership, this is the place where both locals and visitors meet to enjoy an adult beverage while enjoying the great daily entertainment. With both inside or outdoor seating next to Strawberry Creek, relax and enjoy one of their house specialties from a quick appetizer to a full meal. With a pool table in the back and cozy sofas in the bar area, there is something for everyone.
The place is cozy with a really nice fire place in the middle of the restaurant. We got the BBQ burger and the trail Blazer burger and they were okay. The Italian armadillo eggs are pretty legit though 👌🏻

We were in town for the weekend & needed a place that opened by 8:00am on a Sunday, served breakfast (and adult beverages), and would be showing the 2018 World Cup Final. Idyology did all of that & more. They allowed our group of six to come in a little early to watch the pre-game, served up drinks & a very yummy breakfast. The service & atmosphere was top notch! Unfortunately my team did not win but that was the only negative of the morning. Thank you so much to the staff who took care of us & made our experience one to remember!

Food was okay and ambiance was great but they needed more staff. Multiple orders were messed up because they were so busy and many items did not come exactly as described on the menu. I really wanted to love this place but it didnt quite meet my expectations.
I’ve been here many times because I live here and friends occasionally want to go there. But I have to say that as cool as the place is in terms of atmosphere, etc., the food has always been mediocre and overpriced. I had chips, guacamole and salsa last night and it was $10! With a sandwich and one non-premium beer my bill was $30.I will not return. It’s not BAD, it’s just not very good and is always disappointing.
Bartenders seem 2 Cater to the locals only and the tourist women get kicked to the curb side. Never go there again. very unprofessional. The wine & beer place was the same but The Idyllwild brewpub was very Beautiful & extremely professional. The shopping was great. Sorry, they get a zero star & would not recd. I met a couple other tourists who were experiencing the same. 🤔
Anyone who doesnt enjoy this amazing restaurant is an uptight, glass half full kind of person. So if thats you, stay away! If however you dig a rootsy, unique, incredible service and atmosphere kind of place. Then this is the perfect place for you! Stop in for a drink, great food and live music 👍👍👍👍👍

Come for the vegetable dishes. All the Vegetables were amazing. The portobello atop crisped and well seasoned Kale, yam mash, and grilled veggies! I would not get the moderately priced steak again, it was a rare occasion and enjoyed, but would not be repeated. Great service and cool ambiance.
The deck is beautiful and mostly shady. The found is good family fare. I had the gazpacho last Sunday and it was excellent. The onion rings and fried pickles are yummy.
Interesting little mountain establishment. The background music was nice, as was the big fireplace, dark wood paneling, worn leather couches by the fireplace, and big outdoor deck in the shade of the pines. I hoped the food would be as comforting as the “homey” interior, but although I think they try, it wasn’t really very good. We each had a Bloody Mary (half price on Sunday), and while it was served in mason jar stemware (funky and somewhat cool), and heavily garnished (asparagus, olive, pearl onion, jalepeno, and bacon), it was heavily laden with Liquid Smoke, and not at all to my liking. (Even in recipes, Liquid Smoke should only ever be used VERY lightly, in my opinion.) Our food order included Armadillo Eggs, which were described as having all sorts of ingredients, but they were basically fried cheese balls. The Sweet Corn Cake dish topped with tomatillo sauce and eggs was good, but not great. (The corn cakes resembled mushy pancakes, but did have a nice flavor.) We plan to return, but will definitely try different menu items. The place has a chill vibe that we loved, so we would give it four stars if the food quality was better. Maybe next time.

I wish I could get a burger like this in northern Illinois! The food has very original flavors and is perfectly prepared. What sets Idyology apart is the log cabin, homey feel. You could sit on the deck overlooking a beautiful creek or even on a bed of fur in front of a fireplace. The owner shows exactly how to run a restaurant. She is constantly checking to make sure orders are right and that her guests are having the best time possible. My 7 year old was right at home with lots of table games to pick from and a giant Jenga game to keep him entertained.From a night with the family, to a place to grab lunch or a drink while listening to live local music, Idyology has it all. You will not be disappointed!

Idyology celebrates the original spirit of their custom Cafe, built in the early 1960s by their 7 jolly Chef in the Forest thats situated overlooking Strawberry Creek. Their menu ranges from natural Buffalo burgers and meat to the best Vegetable burger I have ever experienced and their wonderful salads.
We stepped in the door on Saturday afternoon. Waited and waited at the front door to be seated. Nobody even said hello. So we left.
Idyology is the best pub in town, hands down. My wife and I celebrated our wedding in idyllwild and used idyology as the setting for the post wedding party as well as brunch the next morning. Kelli was outrageously accommodating and awesome and we had the most incredible time with great food and drinks. The bar itself is so much fun and the whole decor of the place is fantastic.
Slow service, beer barely cold at 5$ per domestic. Way more talking to other employees rather than attention to customers. Skip it.
Seemed like a cool bar. Went for lunch and the food was just ok. I had the fried chicken, which was ok, but the biscuit was so hard as to be inedible.

They have really good barbecue sauce at this place I ask the chef what it was and he told me that they blend up blackberries and then cook it and then thats it. I said okay Im going to try that at home. Since then I havent gone back. the bison burger burger felt like a rip-off because I swear it was frozen. The rest of the food is very mediocre. The best thing they have there is Moscow mules. And Cake. Who doesnt like cake?
We love going to Idyllwild and IDYology is just a great place for us. Love sitting out on the deck listening to the creek running in the spring and enjoying being around the trees. Great food, drinks and nice people. A must try
Had the tenderloin special tonight and definitely met my expectations. I should say that after dining here regularly my expectations are pretty high. This place continues to amaze me. Yes there is other great food in Idyllwild, but nowhere will you feel more comfortable. The food, the people, the atmosphere, the staff all define this idyology

We were here a few months ago and loved this place but tonight the service was incredibly slow, my food was cold, and arrived again luke warm after pointing out to our waitress it was cold. Happy hour prices were not honored even though we ordered drinks during HH it just took so long to get them they arrived after Happy hour was over. Not sure well be back. Cute place though.

I expected it to be much better than this. The interiors were cool but the food was very disapointing, served pretty late and sided with some really old fruits. I wish the ratings were more realistic so I wouldnt have gone there.
