These guys are the best in Louisville! I’ve taken my truck here a few times and they do amazing work, quality folks to deal with too. They call you and discuss the details, go over your options and they don’t nickel and dime you either. Fair prices for quality work with great customer service and communication. Last year we had a transmission that needed to be rebuilt in a 2009 Subaru Forester and brought it to Cottman based on their reviews. Greg and his team were sympathetic to the huge repair bill I was going to have, and looked for any way to safely save money. We also went ahead and replaced the timing belt and water pump based on the mileage. Having never been there before I called a few places to check that their estimate for that wasnt too much. The price was right in line with other reputable shops. 1 year later the transmission is still shifting as it should. Recently the same car had several other issues come up and I decided to try a shop down the street for diagnostics. Some of the numbers seemed a bit steep, so I took the car to Cottman for a second opinion. Greg, John and crew confirmed the issues, but the cost of the repairs seemed on par with my Google searches and I really felt comfortable having the work done there. I told them I need the car to be able to take a trip to Chicago and back, and they listed everything out in order of importance/ safety. To some it up, when we drop our cars off at Cottman, I dont feel like Im being up sold a bunch services the vehicle doesnt need. And they stand by their work!

Terrific Service Experience at Cottman Transmission today!Came in for a routine 42K PM Transmission Service (filter & fluid change) on my Dodge Grand Caravan. Fortunately, before I found myself stranded somewhere or in an accident, Tech found clear evidence of pending catastrophic failure with Transmission grinding itself away.Greg had Chrysler Warranty on the phone immediately for a covered transmission swap replacement. Wish I had run across the Cottman Team a couple of decades ago.

I had my car at another mechanic to have the clutch replaced. After 3 weeks they decided that it was to much for them to do. So they finally called me 4 weeks after dropping it off. A friend told me about Cottmans. Called them Greg assured me he could do it. After it only being there 2 days he called with a price I agreed to it. And not long after that he called saying it was done. But he did find an issue with one of my wheels. Greg said he did not feel comfortable with me driving it. So I agreed to have him fix that as well. He was very apologetic because just like the rest of the world they are short staffed and he thought it took longer than it should. I would recommend Cottmans to anyone needing work done. Very friendly and professional. Thank you Greg for all youve done to help me get back on the road.

Cottman handled my manual clutch replacement with exceptional service. After replacement, the truck drove like new again with the exception of a newly leaking axle seal. Cottman continued to take the truck in to resolve at no additional charge. Exceptional service and communication throughout the entire process. I highly recommend.

Transmission is great but my exhaust manifold or something is very loud now and seems to be getting worse the more I drive it which was so quiet before the new transmission was installed. I believe this is a good company I just wish they would have looked at the exhaust when I mentioned there was noise after new trans was installed. But other then that I do recommend this company because they do stand behind there work.

I met these guys when my transmission went out, and since they had the best reviews in town, I had them rebuild mine. And Ive been using them since for other repairs too! They are more than just a transmission shop. They have done suspension, steering, brakes and other repairs, and they always go out of their way to find problems before they get too big. I brought my 2015 Nissan Sentra, with almost 25,300 miles, in on Tuesday to get diagnosed. Unfortunately, my computer needed to be reset and they recommended a place for me to take it. (They werent nearly as satisfactory as Cottman.) Don was very honest with me by telling me that this small problem could be a cover up for something bigger. I appreciate him recommending to fix the smaller issue before a drastic repair. 24 hours after getting my computer reset, my check engine light came back on. My car stalled..again. It started back up but started jerking as it shifted. With no family in the city, I called and Greg answered, who is a pleasure to talk to as well. The people that work here are so understanding, communicative, and have really AMAZING customer service. Its almost like they treated me as if I were a friend of the family. Ill be taking my car back Monday to be re-diagnosed with Cottman. Even if they cant fix it (due to an outstanding warranty) I will be taking my car here for anything else. Theyre amazing people, theyre detailed, informative, and overall a stress reliever in a stressful time. Thank you Cottman for being there for our community and working as hard as you do! My Honda CR-V was shuddering between 20 and 35 mph so I took it to Cottman. They did some preliminary testing and the tests came back with probable transmission damage. I decided to have them rebuild my transmission. They called the next day and told me they researched my make and model and there was a known issue and a possible solution from Honda so we tried that first and it worked saving me a couple thousand dollars. They could have very easily just went with the first plan but they did what I feel a lot of places wouldnt have done and saved me money.

I was in Louisville on personal business and my car had transmission trouble. Don and Greg turned my panic into calm by taking care of my car immediately. I was very impressed. It was First Class Service and Quality Work at a Very Fair Price. I highly recommend them!Rich from Cincinnati

My 2010 Impala seamed to be slipping in gear. Looking for a transmmision shop I decided to call Cottman. Don took my call and understood the problem i described. He scheduled me in first thing in the morning. Arriving on time, Greg was at the counter and asked me what was going on with my car and we took it for a test drive. The test drive lasted about 25 feet when Greg said he thinks it not the transmission but would confirm it once he had it up no the lift. Not long after Greg and the mechanic confirmed it was not a transmission problem. He was concerned for my safety and suggested sever options and shops for repairs. When we went to settle up for the services they performed, Greg said no charge I almost fell over. They could have made some kind of temporary repair or whatever and I would never have known. Greg and Don are the most professional, honest people I have met in a long time. Integrity is what these people and Cottman are about. I highly recommend them.

Absolutely wonderful group of people. Wonderful service.I purchased a minivan last week that started having some transmission problems. Took it to Jeffersontown Transmission. They scanned the transmission and test drove it. Said it probably needed a rebuild, but would be best to have a rebuilt or new transmission installed, but wouldnt be worth it considering the age and mileage on the car. They did say that the positive battery cable was probably giving a speed sensor code on the transmission and it needed to be replaced, so I had them replace it. Cost $205! Took the van to Cottman Transmission and Total Auto Care. They scanned it, test drove it, and found out that the engine and transmission were about to fall out of the vehicle. Was going to cost $1500 in frame work to get it fixed, and that didnt include any transmission work. So, I got taken twice. Once by the guy who sold me the van. The second time by Jeffersontown Transmission.Cottman didnt charge me a dime for their diagnostic. I paid Jeffersontown Transmission over $200 for a battery cable and a scan. What a waste.Cottman did me a solid. They were very professional, and very helpful. They may have saved my life, as the van is actually not safe to drive, and I was fixing on driving it to Texas. They may have saved my life. I would go to them for ANYTHING! Great people!

My car sat on the lot for two days without any work being done. The first day I had to call at 330pm only to be told that they had a mechanic out sick. I authorized 2 hours to diagnose the problem and was told (by Greg) that I would be called by the end of the following day. The call never came. I called at 455pm the next day only to discover that Greg had already left for the day and, again nothing had been done to my car. I told Heather that I will take my car somewhere else. She apologized. But Greg did not have the professional courtesy to do the same. I will find a shop that values my busy more than this one. It aint personal. Its business.

EXCELLENT in every way! From my first call to them, to the actual replacement of my sensor, I cannot say enough great things about them! Before calling Cottmans, I was quoted *$625* from American Transmission on Preston hwy to replace this sensor that Cottmans replaced for about $150!! Its been about a year now, & Ive had absolutely no issues since! Ill never go anywhere else. Fast, friendly, professional, & HONEST service without charging a ridiculous amount! 💜

I took my vehicle in to find out what issues it was having. The staff from the front office all the way to the garage were pleasant and informative. I was not pressured to have any work done; and was taken directly to my car while it was on the lift, and was shown what needed to be done and why. I will definitely be returning to this company because of the professionalism they all showed to me.

Greg went out of his way to contact me when my vehicle was towed to them after hours on a holiday weekend. My van lost all its transmission fluid on the side of the road in the morning. I thought that I had lost my transmission and was thoroughly dreading what the mechanic was going to tell me. They had a truck come pick up the van and we received a message later that it was just a clip on the house that broke off. I was very relieved. They are honest, friendly happy people. This garage is very honest and nice. My 2002 Honda Accord could not start this Monday morning and then tolled to cottman Transmission which is recommended by my friends. After professionaldiagnose，they found every parts work well. They recommended to stay in hospital for observation one more day. A+ service and repair. I recently took my car here to get a new motor for my window. I agreed on the repair cost/labor and they went ahead and replaced the motor. However, the window would not roll up or down even with the new motor. Come to find out I also had a bad power window master switch. They bought a new one for me and the charge was going to be an extra $140 dollars. I told them that Ill pass on the master switch and Ill take care of it later. When I picked up my car they said they were going to leave in the new master switch and not charge me for it. His words were We rather you leave a happy customer than spend more time taking out the new switch. I highly recommend Cottmans and will be back in the future.

I was driving my boyfriends car when it suddenly started lurching and the check engine light started flashing. I became very worried and realized I needed it checked immediately. Luckily I live in St. Matthews and was able to drive only a few blocks when I saw Cottman Transmission was open. They were extremely friendly, polite and professional. They ran a full diagnostic on the car free of charge, told me that they would need to look into the problem further and therefore had to keep the car on the lot, and then gave me a ride home. They called me with an answer the next morning, and by 3 pm that day I had the car back, with new spark wires, all for a reasonable price.

Greg & the whole Cottman team are always very honest and prompt. Its not always pleasant to have car issues, but its less stressful when you know that you have a team of awesome people ready to help you out! I have and will continue to recommend Cottman all the time!

While on the road during vacation we had trouble with our recently rebuilt transmission. The guys at Cottman worked with the shop that did the recent work to figure out the new issue. They gave us a ride to a nearby car rental place and got us back in the road in about 24 hours.

After reading the reviews, I decided to give Cottmans a try. I dropped my van off New years day (wed). Using key drop service. Greg called mid afternoon thursday with estimate. Very reasonable. I had a broken flywheel. They had my van repaired very fast, called friday midmorning to let me know it was finished!It runs like a new van! VERY HAPPY with their work and service. Greg and Heather are very nice and easy to work with. They kept me updated thru out the whole process. Also the work came with a 1 year warranty.I will go back for any future services.

I have a 2013 Dodge charger rt my transmission was going out so I Google transmission shops and found out about cottmans I never heard of this place but i thought Id give them a call spoke with Greg he told me that he would get my car done as soon as my transmission got there a day later he had my car fixed and the service was great the entire staff was very nice and respectful Greg is a great guy he treated my car as if it was his. Took my GMC K2500 crew cab to have the trans completed clean, changed fluids, reviewed and new filter. i bought this care package at a charity auction that Cottman donates the service.Great experience.they noticed the trans cooler fluid leak and told me theyd fix on the next trip. They need to order the trans lines.
