DO NOT TRUST YOUR EQUIPMENT HERE. This is by far the worst experience I’ve had with any repair shop. It’s unfortunate because the people who work there are very nice, but the customer service could not be worse.I brought my keyboard in to Advanced to diagnose an issue I had with a single key, and they returned it to me with four broken keys and an estimate for what it would cost to fix all four. I pointed out that they are clearly responsible for the additional damage and asked what we could do to help the situation. I was happy to pay for my part but it just didn’t seem right to have to pay for the damage THEY caused. They became very nasty with me telling me it’s my responsibility and that I’d have to pay or take the keyboard somewhere else. There was no option for a discount, no willingness to admit to fault, nothing. Just a tab of a few hundred bucks and another unsatisfied customer.Do yourself a favor, save yourself the time and the headache. There are plenty of quality shops in LA with excellent customer service and a great reputation. This isn’t one of them, and now I know why.Edit: The reason that I know it’s possible to open the board and inspect without causing further damage is because I diagnosed the issue first and there was still only one key broken after my inspection. But obviously the AME technician was not as careful as I was and figured the customer will pay for any damage anyway. It’s simply bad business on the part of AME. This is the part where they should own up to that and promise future customers better service. I however will never return there, and I will advise the same to others.

One day out of nowhere my audio interface, an apollo twin mkii, stopped working. Wouldn’t turn on. I reached out to UA (the manufacturer) to see about a repair. They straight up said send it to this random shop in NYC. I called up and got a quote, seemed reasonable. But I kept looking anyway to see what options I had. Found advanced musical electronics and called them up. Gave me a better quote, reviews checked out, so I mailed the beating heart of my studio to them from all the way across the country hoping it would all work out. They said it would take a while because they were quite busy. Fair enough. I’ll wait for quality work. Not only did they beat their own price estimate by a few bucks, they got it back to me much faster than their original time estimate. Highly recommend. Thanks Ruth, you saved me hundreds ($1300 to be exact) and my studio.

Excellent experience at this place. Brought my Apollo Twin MKII for repair, and since I drove 5 hours total there/back I paid an extra $50 for the rush fee to get this whole thing done quickly. They weren’t kidding with the rush because I got a call before I even made it back home with a full detailed description of what was going on with my apollo, the course of action, and the price, all very professionally. Highly recommend this place for anyone who needs repairs on their hardware for all things music related.

Read the reviews and had to share my experience. Ive worked with Advanced many times over the last 8 years and was always satisfied with their reasonable approaches to my problems. I think they can improve on organization, but aside from that I am very thankful that I can take my equipment to them for honest, practical, and intelligent repairs. The hostile reviews are unnecessary and unwarranted.

I also I paid 50 extra to make it a rush are you kidding me 1 and a half weeks later mu unit is still not working and they claim it does this place is garbage!Update: I sent the mixer to a new place they found what was wrong with my filters so i was right and the ignorant rude bastards that run this place where wrong what a real waste of time this place is!

Shop charges $50 fee just to check something out and give you an estimate, then I doubt they even fully checked out my gear after they say they had a miscommunication error with a new technician and so they actually didnt disassemble it after I left it there for 3 days bc they specifically said they will open it up and check it out and get back to me.... Wouldnt go here

Always had good experiences with them, usually having parts for Alesis etc. and its always worked. Im looking at the review above mine asking WHY would someone send a perfectly good synth. You sent it for repair Im assuming? Therefore it wasnt perfectly good? (liar). Did the delivery people mess it up? That happens a lot. Why would you leave a derogatory review based on that? Something isnt right.

If I remember correctly these guys are about as bad as it gets ! I dropped off an old vintage mxr distortion + and they sat on it for 6 months. They finally got around to fixing after I called them 4 times to get a status. Then the pedal crapped out again. Back then, there was no way to review companies online but its a different story now ! Brought in my juno-60 for repair. called back and told me it was contaminated. it was in this shop 3 years and every time they would say two more weeks! then they said it had hairline fractures. ive pretty much taken this as a loss. they charged me 700 dollars before the repairs were even done, so pretty much i could have gotten half way to a new one before they charged me. they took advantage of me and its really messed up. i still dont have my synth :( its been like 5 years. you guys are terrible actors you know exactly who i am. every time i come in and ask about the synth you get the guiltiest look on your faces and start lying and pretending. you charge people ridiculous repair prices and then after years of work you just throw in the towel never call them back and never even give them their synth back.

I just opened up a keyboard I had repaired there around 10 years ago and found that instead of doing a simple hammer replacement with the proper $10 part they just epoxied a screw and couple of nuts to the end of the broken hammer. For this I waited a month and was charged $150.

Not the best experience. I used their services twice last year, once on my Roland Fantom X7 which had a defunct output and a few buttons that would not engage. They fixed the outputs well enough, but the buttons gave out shortly after the 90-day warranty window. Whats more, since I got it back the filter has started misbehaving, but when I took it back they said they couldnt replicate the problem. They charged me $264.50Six weeks later, I took my NordPiano there because one key stopped working. The Nord US distributor told me AME was one of the best in the business. Turns out there was nothing wrong with it, just a dirty contact they cleaned it out, at $280.90I cant understand in what reality cleaning out a dirty contact can command such a premium. Both prices included $50 rush fees, but still...I reckon they are more geared towards fixing amps and that kind of thing, but I will not be coming back there for my keyboards.[edit:]this to reply to the owners response below:I remember the details just fine. Regarding the Fantom: I declined to have ALL the buttons fixed, and asked your tech to just repair the ones that were malfunctioning. Those started exhibiting the same errant behavior again after you fixed them. Im NOT talking about the other buttons. I have stated this in our emails as well. Its fine, though. No hard feelings, but I do not think I have misrepresented my case.

If it were possible to give less than one star, I would, and I say this to help anyone who is considering having something repaired by this shop. I brought in my Korg Polysix for a simple repair and Kiwisix installation, then I had to wait nearly a week to get a quote, which is the best part. These guys had the audacity to tell me that my synth basically needed to be completely cleaned and overhauled before the installation, and to add insult to injury, they quoted me at nearly 3000 DOLLARS. I literally could have bought another Polysix for the price they were quoting for my repairs. In short, these guys suck and should not receive your business because they will overcharge you with countless needless repairs. BE WARNED!

Not sure about some of these reviews. I have been using Ruth and AME for over 25 years. THey have fixed everything from my DX7 to my Pro Tools Cards. I have NEVER had a single problem with this shop. THeir tech, Terry, is one of the top technicials in town. Between his ADAT mods and all the other magical things he has done for my equipment, I cant think of a smarter, better tech ANYWHERE in this city. There has never been a problem with their repairs and they have never lost a piece of equipment that I know of. Every top artist goes there for a reason. I would not trust my equipment with anyone else. Haters gotta hate. But you can trust AME to get your gear fixed right, and at a very reasonable price.

Worst shop, They gave my vintage synth to the wrong customer. Had to wait 6 months to get it back and the problem was not even fixed. Found out from a tech that used to work there that the pro audio / vintage synth tech is a 20 year old guy that never even been to tech school. He watches you tube videos on how to fix gear. The owner ruth charges thousands of dollars to fix the vintage gear and has a guy looking at you tube to fix it. Not good.
