Reuben did a top-notch setup and pickup swap for a fair price. He was friendly, accommodating and timely, all while being safe during the pandemic. I definitely recommend Old Style Guitar Shop, call them up instead of a big chain store!

Reuben did a great setup on a used Telecaster I bought. He was attentive to what my issues were with it and even saved me money by suggesting simpler fixes than what I had in mind. He doesn’t work on amps, so he recommended me a place (Revamp on Melrose) that turned out to also be great. Reuben quoted me a week and a half for my Telecaster and got it done in just a few days. The attention to detail is clear in Reuben’s work, and it plays fantastic now! Wish I could’ve actually perused Reuben’s very cool little shop and eclectic selection of guitars, but such are the limits of COVID times. Was also grateful that he is a serious observer of COVID precautions, wearing a mask at all times I was in the shop and only seeing clients on an appointment basis. Thanks for everything Reuben! Will be back for any guitar needs.

The shop did a full setup on a partscaster Jazzmaster I brought in that sounded beautiful but had a few wicked little fret buzzing areas and insanely high action. When I brought it back into the shop a week or so later because of some intermittent soft clicking in the signal that appeared post-setup, the shop tech took an entire half day narrowing it down and silencing the damn click. :) I really appreciated that quick turnaround, because I had a little tiny show to play coming up, and they reassured me that all would be well (I was troubleshooting my cable, pedals, etc for days before bringing it back in). Now the guitar sounds just as beautiful as always, but I can play all the notes without buzzing and the intermittent clicking is gone and folks, i recommend bringing in your guitar :)

Old Style Guitar Shop has an entirely different energy, vibe and atmosphere like no other vintage guitar shops in LA. Soon as you walk in, it will hit you like a time machine. Love the inventory with the most unusual guitars everywhere and they all speak for themselves. Owner Reuben is not only a gifted individual, but he possesses an amazing level of passion and craft - a true artist. Timeless guitar shop at its BEST.

I entrusted these guys with the first acoustic I ever bought 15+ years ago, which was in rough shape (cracks, action out of whack, etc). Got it back today and it plays like f***ing butter! Its singing like it hasnt in quite some time, and is infinitely more playable. Really pleased with their work. Also, their selection of guitars and amps is incredible & very unique. A fantastic establishment!

Called inquiring about what Electric 6 string fenders they have in stock, and all he said was its best you just come into the shop. Seemed real snobby. Im a very impulsive buyer and a serious player. I said Im likely chasing s strat. I really want an aged white with a 70s headstock and a rosewood fretboard. And Ive got 2k burning in my pocket. Im also interested in a thinline tele. But he didnt seem to really care what I was after or to give me any friendly encouragement to check out what he has, just wanted me off the phone and presumed I didnt know what I was talking about.

Did a bad job twice on set ups. open string buzzing both times, why i went back the second time i have no idea. the intonation lasted about a month. these were both on american made gibsons.the last one i got they stuffed card stock under the bridge saddles and left it hanging out. they did not ask me before charging me if it was ok to this hack DIY style repair yet charged me full price.they also sold me what they said were flat wound strings but when i got them out of the package they were regular round wound.AND on top of being amateurs, they are argumentative and arrogant. perhaps to cover up that they only sort of know what they doing?
