Fren took in my guitar and immediately began to diagnose and repair the short. Took maybe twenty minutes and I was out the door good as new. Really appreciate the quick response, capable fix snd reasonable price!

Fren Asken is in love with guitars. His shop is a small shack behind his house, dusty and crowded with instruments and equipment. Friendly and down to earth, he’s an old world craftsman born in the wrong century, and a welcome asset for guitar lovers in Los Angeles.

Dont expect your guitar back in a timely manner. I brought a guitar there for some work and i was X in line. When someone more famous brings their guitars in, they jump ahead of you. My guitar should have been finished within 2-3 weeks, after 2+ months I went and retrieve it. It was no closer to being worked than when I dropped it off. If you read his yelp reviews. youll see a few unhappy customers. He makes excuses of being swamped and needs to be more realistic about lead times. But the truth is he only cares about famous players and has no qualms about disregarding customer needs when it comes to more famous clientele. If thats the business he wants to go after, maybe he should deal with them exclusively

I needed some minor repair done on my Moonstone custom acoustic guitar and didnt want to take it just anyone. I poked around the internet to find the best acoustic luthier in the LA area. Liked Frens website and took my baby to him. Of course he had a ton of work and when he called, I drove to pick it up. Not only was the work impeccable, but we got to play and sing a bit before I had to go.I highly recommend Fren if you need it done right and with love.
