Parking: There is a parking lot right across the street. I, however, parked in the parking deck for Safe & Final around the block. Be prepared to pay for parking.Wait Times: During my visit there was a line outside the door and down the block. Be prepared to wait. With that being said I dont think I waited more than 30 min to be seated.Service: Was quick, courteous, and efficient.Food: DELICIOUS! My friends and I had a variety of plates (pictured).I love the history, and feel of the cafe. I will definitely be back on my next trip to LA.

While there is a line out the door, it moves quite fast. What keeps this restaurant running is its amazing ability to get people in and out the door as fast as possible. The time between getting seated to ordering to getting your food is all very fast. Even the speed at which the waiter takes your order is fast. Regardless, for breakfast, expect all your staple items with a no frill’s menu. It appears that the restaurant shifts to a lunch menu at 11am.I got a classic biscuits and gravy, served with sausage, hash brown and eggs. Supposedly their pancakes were supped to be great, but all in all, I thought the entire meal was as to be expected. Breakfast food with no frills.

Not for me. Ive been here twice and both times it seemed like everyone who worked here was mad at something. They work hard cause they are busy but it seemed like they were all operating with a headache they couldnt shake. Its also a pet peeve of mine when I ask if they have diet coke, they say yes, and serve me diet Pepsi without telling me. Seems antithetical to a service mindset. Especially telling was two servers did it. Also the food was blah in presentation and taste.Positives: the serving size is enormous. It comes to you in record time. This place also has history. Its fun to look around the restaurant and be a part of that. I also liked that they had strategically placed their menu on the wall so every seat can see it. When there is a line it should move fast cause this place seems designed to turn tables efficiently. Not many old school diners for breakfast in DTLA. Even if this wasnt my thing others seem to enjoy their experience.

This place was good, I waited in line for 45 minutes or so. Food comes fast and pretty good. I just noticed all servers were wearing gloves cleaning dirty tables and setting clean forks, refilling drinks and bringing clean food with same gloves never changing them. That is Cross contamination especially with covid protocol. It was hard for me to see that and enjoy my food fully. The cold slaw was amazing also!!! I am a germ fobe so if you dont mind the gloves not being changed, great place to eat and well worth the wait. BTW the menu is on the wall so you dont sit and wait on a menu get up and look so that you can tell your server what you want;)

This evening I was hankering for nostalgia, back before the pandemic, back before my stage 2, back before all of the bad stuff hit the fan... I would run around L.A. meeting with clients and popping into my favorite retail shops I would drop in for my favorite brand of takeout for my grandmother and myself. Then after, during my mothers rehabilitation from her massive stroke Id pop in for my mothers favorite dinner. Pot roast with all the fixings! This evening I was craving a taste of the Pantry and I found myself GRUBHUBing my pot roast with gravy and mashed potatoes and my veggies... corn! Plus their infamous warm sourdough bread accompanied by deliciously spreadable creamy butter.Excellent superbly crafted and definitely a pleasant reminder to days gone by...Hey, best of all... my new stomach was able to enjoy everything... well ...moderately speaking. I was concerned about indulging in their creamy coleslaw as per my dietitian... but hey! I was able to enjoy it without negative effects. I did it!Im definitely excited about this! This is the best thing I have had since the pandemic outbreak and my stage 2 diagnosis. Thanks mayor Riordan for your impressive historic Diner!

Location:GREAT, Parking:Okay (Pay park across the street), Service: Fast and Very Good, Food for Price : Good, Overall: Since the early 70s I was introduced to a line outside. When we were inside, I remember the Community Table. The waiters were fast and flying as the food and orders came and went open 24 hours (until recently). Even at 3 a.m. the food was well worth the drive. Now after covid things have changed, a lock on the door for one. Hours of operation to include closing Monday and Tuesday for another. The pantry is a historical landmark and has been in business since the 20s! The coleslaw is bomb! Today I shared a philly cheese steak with my husband, it was delicious! I definitely recommend dipping it in said coleslaw (trust me, its delicious) and the side order fries are crispy perfection. As for drinks we had water and cold brew! Really good! Is there going to be a wait? Yes. But is it worth it? Yes and then some. This is the grandaddy of greasy spoon diner foods, the absolute peak level that can be reached. The home style potatoes come out with a crisp but also soft and fluffy on the inside, and that omelette -- my stomach is growling right now just thinking about it. The omelette is inexplicably delicous. How can something so basic as cheese and egg be SO GOOD?Its also amazing just seeing the wheels turn here; its incredibly efficient. The servers are wildly fast and capable, darting from one place to the next and taking orders and requests and bringing out plates at a lightning speed and not missing a single beat. And our tables food came out in minutes (but dont let the speed of the food being prepared let you think its anything other than phenomenal). Even the coffee is fantastic, smooth, rich and velvety - not the bitter burnt stuff you encounter in so many breakfast diners.A classic for a reason, its definitely worth a visit.

The Pantry looks like a colorized version of a 1950’s film noir set. I half expected the guy at the counter next to me to light up a luckily after he slid his plate away. I can imagine back in the ’30s a doe eye starlet fresh off the bus from Davenport. She sits in the corner and counts out her change to pay the tab. As she leaves she turns an places a nickel on the table. Straightening her hat she walks towards the door and into the buzz saw that is LA. Sure the pantry serves great food, but you can get great food at home. The Pantry is about more than food. The pantry is a door with no lock. Where that door leads depend on your mood of the day.

Make sure you bring CASH.Now, I should preface this review by saying that we were quite inebriated when we visited the Original Pantry Cafe. We ordered the cheeseburger and the Philly cheesesteak. The cheeseburger was pretty much a patty melt, gooey cheese, thick patty, with the veggie toppings on the side. Fries were also pretty good. The Philly cheese steak, unfortunately, was a bit bland. However, the coleslaw definitely made up for it.If you sit right by the counter, you pretty much can see them make the food right in front of you.
