I ordered the corned beef hash with poached medium eggs & hubby ordered the duck & cluck. Duck/bacon sausage over polenta (grits). Very filling dishes. The biscuits here are to die for with their homemade jam 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 Im still giving 5 stars however it would be nice if they had more space between customers. I felt trapped in the corner & still dealing with the pandemic truths, I didnt feel comfy stacked near others. This place rocks tho 💯👌🏼
In my top 3 favorite breakfast spots in all of Los Angeles. They are closed Monday through Friday to assist the homeless community. Not only is the service incredible and everyone is very nice but the food is delicious. Probably the best maple donut I’ve had in LA and the Chicharrón Chilaquiles did not disappoint! I would recommend to anyone it’s delicious.
With a pleasant ambience, this is a best environment for both meetings and socializing. Their food is fantastic! Many of the dishes and sweets on the list were all faves of mine. I did not make a mistake by touring this location. I was quite pleased with their support. This restaurant receives five out of five stars for customer satisfaction.
This is place is a national TREASURE!!!! I always recommend this place to anyone visiting La. So worth finding parking
This Japanese restaurant served me a delicious dinner! This location has a very nice ambiance. It was really relaxing and calming. Its just as if youre in Japan. Their staves were also very friendly and welcoming. I love returning here time and time again! A highly recommended restaurant! Thank you incredibly much, gentlemen!
This was our third visit to this restaurant, and each time we had a wonderful time. Despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy, the service was outstanding, and our food was delivered to our table easily. There are a variety of solutions available, and the cost is reasonable. One of our former tour guides proposed it. We will, without a doubt, return!
This was a Triple D place. I have to say my family loved it! When we travel we like to get to at least 1 Triple D place. As I always mention in my restraunt posts we are a foodie family and enjoy good food. We had an excellent breakfast everything was perfect. The pancakes so light and fluffy. My daughter said the French toast with cinnamon bread was great.
Despite the modest neighborhood, this place is a gem. Homemade poptarts, cinnamon bun french toast, and fresh berry compote are just a few unique items to the menu. All set in a well maintained but casual and not hipster 1930s art deco style family diner. Wonderful staff, well executed food, served with love and without pretention.
Had a family brunch with the best orange juice ever!! Made from freshly squeezed oranges. Service is awesome 👏🏽. Vanessa and staff keep up the superb customer service up!! Along with the love you give and the love you put into the food. 💜
I love this place. The food was stupendous and very filling. The donuts look incredible and the chocolate coffee donut one is delicious, I love the crunchy topping on top. It was fluffy and almost cake like. They pancakes, were good and they texture was light and airy. The French was aswell perfect. An amazing breakfast just incredible. The only things that werent there best was that they dont have the red velvet donut or Nutella one. And the tables were so close that I could barely slide between them. Besides the small imperfections it was wonderful. I would come here again so many times
Amazing food. Awesome LA noir decor. Best people you could hope to meet. Can not recommend anymore highly.*Tip* Get a Pop Tart, enjoy with their homemade jam 🤯🙏🥳
We ate lunch at this well-known restaurant in town! We had thoroughly eaten all of the meals, both local and overseas. We really enjoy the ambiance of this establishment. Often ideal for dates!
First time coming here celebrating my birthday, met the owner & had her delicious jam (homemade).
Get. The. Coffee. No seriously the coffee is a slow drip from a local roaster, and is a serious treat and amazing find. Im particular about my coffee. It has to have full form and flavor and this is it. Besides the glowing coffee, the Nickel Diner has an old timey vibe with some great food and service. The doughnuts go fast (so get them while you can - all of them are as tasty as the next) as do most of the pastries but the food here is also a special something. Always flavorful and the selection will keep you coming back to try the next item. A must if your in the neighborhood.
I went in with high expectations. For some reason I assumed the grilled chicken sandwich was the type you get in NYC diners. Sadly I was disappointed. I found everything... the grilled chicken sandwich, the onion rings and shoestring fries very uninspiring. The one things that was on point was the coleslaw... it’s a genuine diner coleslaw. The price came out to... $24 USD + $4 USD tip I left got the service. The service was very good. The price is outrages. Specially for a diner in downtown LA. I can get the best grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings, fries and coleslaw to die for... in the most expensive diner in NYC for $12 USD.Bottom line. I wouldn’t come back here. This neighborhood as way too many amazing food places... to try that will blow you away.
I tried the Daddy breakfast burrito and the Hangover helper. Both meals were so delicious and portion sizes where big! If you want to have a good breakfast in LA this a great place to experience. They also sell pastries so I took a strawberry poptart and bacon maple donut to go. The pastries are not overly sweet and are very satisfying for sugar cravings.
I had an amazing in this spot. We loved the awesome atmosphere and the food. The waiters were very amiable. I am content we ultimately decided to visit this spot.
The traditional American cuisine. A treat. The dinner had a real American look and feeling to it. The food was exactly as it was supposed to be :sweet and greasy. A really nice guilty pleasure. Pleasant staff. Not very cheap, but normally priced. Our check was 23 dollars for pancakes, a grilled cheese and some coffee.
Kristen and Monica are the REAL DEAL of Gods idea of humanity, Love, Compassion, Authentic warmth and Grace. The food, amazing. Customer service, outstanding! Blessings
The food is pretty great here and the service is one of the best. I do recommend you try this place out when you have a chance.
This place is great and spacious, the food was delicious and the prices were very inexpensive. quickly, efficient service and very personal staff. Highly recommended.
This place Have really good food here
ONE WORD: 💥BRUNCH!💥Although the Nickel Diner serves a great deal more than brunch, it’s one of my favorite diners in DTLA.A VERY relaxed (albeit a bit noisy, but that’s why it’s called a ‘Diner’) with the friendliest owners and staff a Bruncher could hope for in the area.Any eatery that calls their Mac and Cheese plate “Smac and Cheese” must be GREAT... I must admit that a sense of humor, delicious food and clever-witted staff members goes a long, long way! ✔️
#iFlockent As seen on @foodnetwork an also a major showcase in @guyfieri triple D; Rheo Taylor is here to drop a @nickeldiner or 2 on you for the best food out of the west an I do mean that from the Main st. Staple; From its unique USC campus juke joint decor;down to its diner whopping serving sizes your gonna enjoy every nickel dime an penny on that rust bucket of a couch when its all said an threw.
Ive had many a patty melt in my days and this is by far textbook. Meat is juicy and perfectly cooked with just the right smothering of carmelized onions and cheese. The rye bread is too often soggy or poorly toasted - Not this one! Medium toasted supporting the masterpiece within. Side of coleslaw was crunchy and fresh and more about the slaw than the mayo, which I appreciate.
Old school breakfast and good eating
Love this little joint, the owner is so sweet and also she is very professional and always chat and interact with clients.Love that they still on business in this hard time of pandemia and they have my all support. The food is delicious, you really have to go and try for yourself.
My first time there and it was great 👍
Best maple donuts.
Delicious Food!!! Hangover Breakfast and home made pop-tarts scrumptious! Highly recommended. So happy to see this place open!
Very good place in the store open during these crazy time.PS... Dont forget to try their homemade Pop-Tarts🤤
This is a gem. The owner is very involved and also converses with the patrons. The onion rings are incredible and I know why they rank as the best onion rings in the USA!!! The maple bacon donuts are 😍&😋! The lemonade has a mint twist that is absolutely delicious & refreshing. I go every week as a lunch date with hubby and I recommend you to go there as well you will enjoy your food the atmosphere as well as the professionalism of staff. If I could rate it more than 5 stars I would since it overall is that exceptional.
Ive loved the Nickel Diner since it opened in, I think, 2008...the food is always delicious and well-prepared, the service is excellent, and the comfort-diner ambiance is unpretentious and relaxed.
Good comfort food. Good prices, too.
Nice little place to go and have some delicious breakfast and lunch, everything there is really good, the staff is reallly nice and friendly, the owner she is a sweet heart, she is very friendly and also she is making sure that you leave satisfying.I totally recommend, just go and give it a try and ask for their famous bacon donut and the peanut butter chocolate and potato chip cake.
I rarely leave reviews but I must tip my hat. Amazing service! I work in the industry and I rarely see exceptional service when dining out. Maybe I have high expectations...the staff at nickel diner is amazing, above and beyond and seems like a place I would wanna work...weird, I know...We were in town last week for a quick LA get away and will for sure be back next time we are in town. And the food! Normally my lover and I have to choose between fresh and healthy or classic diner food. This place has both and super tasty. Love the old traditional decor but so happy the menu has kept up with the times. Plenty of vegan options too! This must be the place...
Good people, good food. And mimosa, what else can I ask for . Highly recommend very berry French toast.
Delicious. only open weekends though
It was so savory. Definitely worth a return visit. The bill was reasonable.
Im GH driver, they dont have even trays for the drinks !
Foods not too expensive.
Just a good old fashioned diner experience. Good coffee!
The Nutella donut is amazing
Quality spot. They dont skimp on the eggs. Servers are pretty cool people and they have this homemade jam that is BANGIN. While there are cheaper options, this is a really really good place to sit and chill and eat.Visually this place looks pretty cool from the inside, not so cool from the outside but its LA so hush. Definitely a good place for a meeting but more than perfect for proper dining
Great concept - wait staff sing while they serve. At first the singing was a little loud, but after a few minutes you are used to it and can appreciate the talent led voices of the staff there. We went yesterday at lunch and had a great experience. The brisket sandwich was good and the hot dogs were great (cheese and onions additional) but the dogs were a little on the small side - especially when you compare to the standard LA serving sizes). We were told the 20 staff in 2015 were part of Broadway musicals to give you an idea of the singing quality. The staff mixed it up and we especially enjoyed the rap that came sporadically throughout our 1.5 hour visit.Definitely worth the visit, it is a little more expensive than you would pay for the same food elsewhere, but you are paying a premium for the entertainment. There is also a donations bucket - they call it Phillip (or something like that) where any amount you add to this goes to the staff singing/dancing/acting lessons only. This is on top of any tip you decide to give.Great environment, and absolutely a must in LA. We really enjoyed our visit, probably the most memorable dining experience we have had.
Smores cake is the best😋!
Great amount of food and friendly staff.
Service was great and the Blueberry Pancakes were AMAZING!
I love snacking here. Ill return with my relatives.
Such a great place. Have been multiple times for breakfast and once for lunch now. I had the fried chicken sandwich and was so great! The flavors were on point and the chicken was nice and crisp. Also had the fried Mac and cheese balls. This obviously isnt a place to try if eating healthy. The breakfast is also great but the breakfast burrito has always been so extra greasy I wouldnt recommend that. Will definitely be back sometime tho!
Normally I would have posted a pic but food looked so good I couldnt stop. Quick, helpful, and friendly service. It has a nice interior.
Corned beef and eggs. No need to look anywhere else on the menu! THE best Ive ever, and I cant bring myself to order anything else. Unless you count a mimosa, which adds the perfect compliment to a spectacular brunch. Compared to typical downtown LA, pricing is decent, about what you would expect for a small breakfast spot. Have yet to be disappointed.
This was the last place I ate with my dad before he passed away suddenly. We had a great conversation with the owner and I even snapped this picture of him and his new girlfriend. The food, atmosphere and company were all better than I could have expected. This place is a true LA gem. Thanks for the beautiful memory.
Beutifully designed restaurant reminiscent of Taos. Well prepared Southeast Asian Fusion Cuisine meant to be shared served by a very friendly staff.Every dish we tried was very good and reasonably priced.
I love this place and I often goes there for lunch. This is traditional American food but the reason I go there is the deserts. They have delicious home made donuts and cakes, the guy doing them is a genius. Service is friendly, the location is great in the middle of the Fashion District, and it wont cost you much, after all this is the nickel diner.
The food is so good, gourmet diner food.
Not the greatest breakfast place Ive ever been to but it was just barely adequate plus the waitress didnt bother to bring my change after paying assuming that that money was automatically hers for the tip never seen a restaurant do that before overall not great wouldnt go back
Super-friendly owner and wait staff; classic 1910s diner decor; hand-made food (Yes, they have vegan!) very tasty and fresh. Overall, a great experience. We had their homemade answer to Ding Dongs for dessert, and that just pushed lunch over the top! Portions nice - we each took half of our sandwiches home for later. Will be back! With friends.
Always delicious and great service
Small menu with a ton of fun options. Tried the spicy BBQ hash and it was amazing!Server brought over some homemade jam to spoil me and it was amazing!Definitely will be back to try their pancakes.
For being a semi picky food person, I enjoy trying new foods. Its a historical place which I support. The waiter we had was superb. The food was great. You absolutely must try the freshly baked biscuit. A small wait of 20 minutes but totally worth the wait. Theyre right. This is the place.
Nickel diner? I had to stop here for breakfast on Sunday morning coming from the LAX Airport . Do not be lured bu its name! This restaurant charged just like and other decent restaurant however breakfast was terrible.
The Service: Very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Give good recommendation. The Food:DELICIOUS!! The maple bacon donuts... to die for!!The Parking: Only street parking (metered)
A cute, delicious, vintage eatery. Although off the beaten path, this place is worth the trek. The menu is basic but not boring with tasty twists on old standards and unique new flavors. Friendly fast service and great coffee. The owner recommended the French toast and now so do I. Bring an appetite, the portions are generous.
